Vieillir : le point de vue du cinéma américain contemporain (2000-2010) / Representations of aging in popular American films (2000-2010)

Kautzmann, Maryline 05 June 2018 (has links)
The first decade of the 21st century marks a transition in the history of the representations ofaging and old age. In the 2000s, Hollywood started offering new images of aging : less alarmist, less stereotypical, they are, all in all, more positive. As he is no longer pushed in the background, the aging character finds his way amid Hollywood heroes. In those films, which are carried by an old hero, aging is no longer concealed, but it is put in the spotlight. By their mere presence and visibility in such commercial cinema, these new aging characters signal a major shift : in the2000s, aging has become bankable, especially since its new portrayals speak to a generation which stands out on many different levels, the baby boomers. Besides, a wider social transformation shows through these innovative representations of aging, that of a new relationship to aging. “New aging” thus discards ageist clichés and the idea that aging isdeclining, and supplants these conceptions with a positive discourse on aging. This study revolves around popular Hollywood movies released between 2000 and 2010. It offers to shed a light on these new Hollywood representations of aging and on the way cinema has thus echoed innovative discourses on the matter, while attempting to offer its own version of a new outlook on aging.

Parenting interventions on a Mother and Baby Unit : an investigation

Butler, Hannah Lisa January 2013 (has links)
In this thesis the intricacies of service user and staff perceptions of psychological interventions for mental health difficulties were explored. Expanding upon this theme, mothers and staff on a Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) were asked about their views regarding the acceptability and feasibility of the implementation of a parenting intervention, Baby Triple P Positive Parenting Programme (Baby TP). This investigation is presented as four papers: a literature review, two empirical papers (a & b) and, a critical review and personal reflection of the research process. The literature review, a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies, explores service user and staff perceptions of psychological interventions for mental health difficulties. Twenty-eight studies were synthesised to develop comprehensive understanding of subtle, specific and overlapping elements involved in the implementation of psychological intervention. Guided by Noblit and Hare’s (1988) approach, 11 over-arching themes and 25 sub-ordinate themes emerged from the synthesis. Findings provide a detailed description of the concepts pertinent to both service users and staff. Implications are identified for service managers and clinicians in obtaining optimum efficiency and outcomes of psychological intervention. The empirical study is a Q-methodological investigation into service user and staff perceptions of the acceptability and feasibility of a parenting intervention, Baby TP, on a MBU. This study is split into two population-specific papers. Overall five main factors were identified (service users: three; staff: two), which provides new insights into the acceptable and feasible elements of a parenting intervention within this specialist setting. The findings highlight a positive consensus as to the acceptability and feasibility of Baby TP in a MBU setting alongside a number of identified needs pertinent to service users, staff and the setting. Clinical implications and recommendations are provided to address identified areas of need for both populations within this setting. The third paper is a critical review of the thesis illustrated through personal reflections of the research process.

Bebeteca : engatinhando entre livros /

Motoyama, Juliane Francischeti Martins January 2020 (has links)
The baby’s first library is a reading environment in which houses infants and toddlers, from age zero up to three years, in the sole function of bringing them closer to the reading practices, and the social function of a library, considering the dimensions of the reading practice embryonic gestures: Time-space; Modal; Object and Relational (GIROTTO; SOUZA, 2015). From a previous study, we noticed that in the year of 2018, in Brazil, there were slightly more than seventy public and private schools that had the aforementioned room of a baby’s first library, and in our study place, there were only two. Facing this reality, we considered the necessity of studying and knowing better the singularities of a baby’s first library related to the building tof baby readers, in order to contribute to the expansion of these rooms. The main objective of this research is to describe the setting of a baby’s first library, the reading mediation stemming from the early childhood development stages and its needs, and to verify how the school library assistants in the local teaching system and participant schools ... [en] INTERPRETATIONS OF DISNEY PRINCESSES BY WOMEN OF TWO GENERATIONS: BELIEFS, VALUES AND BEHAVIORS / [pt] INTERPRETAÇÕES DAS PRINCESAS DISNEY POR MULHERES DE DUAS GERAÇÕES: CRENÇAS, VALORES E COMPORTAMENTOS

FERNANDA IMPERIAL DA SILVA PEREIRA 28 February 2020 (has links)
[en] This study aimed to identify how low-income women, representatives of the Baby Boomers and Millennials generations interpret and react to the changing role of women in Disney tales and their influence on brand perception. Sixteen in-depth interviews were conducted with women from Rio de Janeiro State. From the memories and lived experiences of the interviewees regarding the brand and the films, and also employing two previously selected films that marked the two generations, Cinderela (1950) and Frozen (2014), results were obtained that showed evidence of different reactions and identifications provoked by the princesses in the movies, denoting female social roles within society. The generation to which they belong and the socioeconomic level of the interviewees seem to influence their reactions.

Early Abusive Relationships–Influence of Different Maltreatment Types on Postpartum Psychopathology and Mother-Infant Bonding in a Clinical Sample

Frohberg, Julia, Bittner, Antje, Steudte-Schmiedgen, Susann, Junge-Hoffmeister, Juliane, Garthus-Niegel, Susan, Weidner, Kerstin 04 April 2024 (has links)
Postpartum psychopathology is a well-documented risk factor for impaired mother-infant bonding and thus child development. Increasingly, the focus of research in this area lies on maternal adverse childhood experiences that mothers bring into the relationship with their own baby, especially regarding the possible intergenerational transmission of traumatic experiences. Several studies showed that there is no direct link between child maltreatment and mother-infant bonding as one part of mother-child relationship, but that this link is mediated by postpartum psychopathology. To date, few studies examined differential effects between sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, and physical and emotional neglect, especially in a clinical sample. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the relationship between child maltreatment, psychopathology, and mother-infant bonding can be found for different forms of child maltreatment in patients of a mother-baby unit. Our sample consisted of 330 mothers of a mother-baby-unit in a psychosomatic clinic, who filled out self-report measures at time of admission. Mothers reported on maternal child maltreatment history with the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, on current psychopathology with the Brief Symptom Inventory, and on mother-infant bonding with the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire. Mediation analyses were performed with psychopathology as mediator, child maltreatment history as independent, and mother-infant bonding as dependent variable. There was no total effect of child maltreatment on mother-infant bonding. However, there were significant indirect effects of child maltreatment in general (ab = 0.09) and of the various forms of child maltreatment on mother-infant bonding via psychopathology (0.16 ≤ ab ≤ 0.34). The strongest effect was found for emotional abuse. After controlling for psychopathology, the direct effect of physical abuse on mother-infant bonding presented as a negative significant effect. This indicates that the more severe the physical abuse experienced, the better the self-reported bonding. A similar, but non-significant trend was found for sexual abuse. Our findings highlight the importance of assessing neglect forms of child maltreatment as well as abuse in women during the perinatal period. It further supports initial findings that different forms of child maltreatment can have differential effects on mother-infant bonding as one aspect of the mother-child relationship. Further research should include observational data to compare with self-report measures.

The impact of the antenatal class "Baby World" on the caregiver-infant relationship : a pilot study

Casale, Laura Elizabeth January 2012 (has links)
Research suggests that the relationship between caregivers and their infants has a significant effect on development and well-being across the lifespan. There is a significant body of research into psychological interventions which focus on this relationship. However, there is only limited research into the impact of antenatal interventions which aim to promote the caregiver-foetus relationship, thus preventing later difficulties in the caregiver-infant relationship. Findings so far suggest that such interventions could be effective, and recommendations have been made for further studies exploring the effect antenatal interventions on the caregiver-foetus relationship. This pilot study explored the impact of a newly developed psychoeducational intervention entitled “Baby World” on the caregiver-foetal relationship. Seventy-nine females and 26 males who were expecting their first child were recruited from an NHS midwife service in London. They were randomly allocated to experimental or control groups. All participants completed questionnaires measuring antenatal attachment, mental health and childhood experiences of caregiving at baseline. Those in the experimental group then attended the Baby World class. All participants then completed the questionnaires for a second time, and then attended the standard antenatal classes. Following attendance at these classes, participants completed the questionnaires for a third time and gave anonymous responses to qualitative questions. Statistical analyses of the quantitative data indicated that the intervention did not have an impact on antenatal attachment. Results did show that antenatal attachment increased over time, whilst anxiety decreased. A significant correlation was found between recollections of maternal caring and antenatal attachment. Qualitative analysis suggested that the intervention did have an impact on aspects of the relationship. In the qualitative responses, the majority of participants wrote that the class had been a positive experience for them, and that it had increased their confidence about being a caregiver. Many of the responses indicated that the class had positively affected their skills in reflective functioning, caregiver sensitivity and attunement, and changed their perspective on how to interact with their infant. The results add to the literature regarding the impact of antenatal interventions on the caregiver-foetus relationship. Further research is needed to explore the impact of the intervention on the relationship more closely, in particular to understand which aspects of the relationship may be affected. There are several limitations of the study, in particular the small sample size and the limited number of expectant fathers who participated. Reasons for these limitations are discussed.
