Customer Involvement in the Product DevelopmentProcess at an SME Digital Business Platform / Kundinvolvering i produktutvecklingsprocessen på ettmedelstort digitalt plattformsföretag

INGELS, ASTRID, SANNERUD, YLVA January 2021 (has links)
Some of the world’s most valuable companies today are platform businesses. Both smaller and larger companies are turning their product and service development from a linear developmentapproach to a platform approach. Despite the emerging studies on platforms, and even though studies on customer involvement have been performed for decades, there is an acknowledged research gap on customer involvement in the development of platforms. This thesis contributes to research by studying Tradera, an online small to medium-sized (SME) marketplace platform facilitating and enabling sales of goods through matching of sellers and buyers on the site. The study is based on an extensive literature search within the fields of customer involvement anddigital platform businesses. The results were based on qualitative data received from exploratory studies in the form of 13 semi-structured interviews conducted at the company. The results from studying the company revealed the complexity in the product of being a platform as well as the complexity of the user base involved in the product development. The complex user base leads to heterogeneity in user needs and difficulty of knowing which users to involve and when to involve them in the product development in order to increase user satisfaction. There was also found to be difficulties in the allocation of resources for (SME)platforms regarding user involvement. Even though difficulties in user involvement were found, the research also showed the great resource of user data that is to be utilized. The purpose of the study was to map and refine the process of user involvement in the product development of an SME platform in order to increase user satisfaction. The study resulted in a framework and recommendation for how to find and involve users in the product development process. The recommendations are to be considered by SME platform businesses wanting to increase the user satisfaction of their product.

Rural Land Use and Value In Northern Victoria 1880 - 1960

Baxter, James Stanley, james.baxter@rmit.edu.au January 2001 (has links)
This thesis examines rural development processes, and in particular the impact over time of infrastructure investment on locational value in a farming community in northern Victoria, Australia. Correlation between infrastructure investment and land values was found to change over time, with the full cost of infrastructure provision not reflected in increased land values. Its impact depended on the type of infrastructure, and was linked to technological changes in agricultural production that led to different demands. The study also revealed the complexity of land ownership and use during the development of typical northern Victorian farmland, and the patterns of land value that emerged. As an historical study of land development it provides a deeper understanding of rural valuation methodology and sales analysis. It also contributes to the theory of land development, and in particular rural land-use and value.

Knowledge transfer to product development processes:a multiple case study in two small technology parks

Saari, S. (Seppo) 10 March 2009 (has links)
Abstract One of the roles of Technology Parks is to stimulate and manage knowledge transfer. Studies have been conducted on large Technology Parks, but studies on small ones are rare. However, small Technology Parks are of interest as innovation promoters, and thus regional developers. This study explores how knowledge is transferred to the product development processes of firms, and how the local innovation system influences the transfer. First the existing research is examined to understand what kind of factors affect knowledge transfer in the product development processes of firms from and through a local innovation system with incomplete services. The framework resulting from the study consists of innovation enabler analyses, and process analyses. The enablers are the Technology Park and local innovation systems, and social capital. The processes are the product development processes, and interorganisational networking. Furthermore, an empirical study was conducted on how knowledge is transferred in the product development processes of firms in two Technology Parks namely, Digipolis in Kemi in the North of Finland and Electropolis in Kalix in the North of Sweden. A qualitative embedded multiple case study was chosen as the research approach. The study consists of two levels: the product development processes of the firms, the Technology Parks as single cases and cross case analyses; and the. The latter were based on one single case, a cross case within each Technology Park, and a cross-Technology Park cross case levels. The results indicate that the characteristics of the firms have a higher influence on knowledge transfer processes than the local innovation systems, and higher education combined with an attraction strategy draws subsidiaries with minimal local links and knowledge transfer. Strong ties within local social networks favour knowledge transfer, but they have to be fostered.

Neutschel, Bernd, Raith, Matthias G., Vajna, Sándor 26 September 2017 (has links) (PDF)

Kombination av linjära och iterativa metoder i produktutvecklingsprocessen : En studie om hur processerna, och en kombination av processerna påverkar innovation hos företag inom tillverkningsindustrin / Combination of Linear and Iterative Methods in the Product Development Process : A study about how the processes, and a combination of the processes affect innovation in companies in the manufacturing industry

Arvidsson, Sara, Johansson, Lisa, Sjöstrand, Fanny January 2022 (has links)
Traditionally, a linear product development process has been the obvious choice. However, with the continuously rapid technological development in society, many companies are working towards a more agile approach of developing. The choice of the product development process has a direct impact on the company's ability to innovate within projects. And, if the aim of developing something new that meets the customer’s wishes, and in the meantime stay competitive on the market. The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to investigate how companies use different product development processes, and if a combination of linear or agile processes are favorable. The thesis investigates when and how agile and linear processes are used. When and how the two processes are combined, and the reason for a potential combination. To investigate when one or the other or the combination of the two processes are most favorable. As well as which pros and cons the processes have, in correlation to the promotion of the degree of innovation. The study began with a literature study in the different areas; innovation, linear processes, agile processes and a possible combination of agile and linear processes. Then, an empirical study of two companies took place, with three respondents from each company. This study was conducted via semi-structured interviews. The respondents had different roles at the company, but all were within the field of product development processes. The result from the interviews was analyzed and discussed and, finally, presented in a conclusion. From the completed study, the conclusion can be drawn that the surveyed companies for most projects use their own processes that are like the traditional Stage-Gate process, but with a more flexible process like agile at the start of projects. A combination of Stage-Gate and Design thinking is common but also indispensable to match the flexibility placed on companies in today's constant development of the market. To the greatest extent, however, these processes are implemented separately, and Design thinking is most often used as a complement to their already existing linear process.

Product Development Processes, Three Vectors Of Improvement

Holmes, Maurice, Ronald, Campbell January 2003 (has links)
Product Development Processes have achieved a state of some maturity in recent years, but have focused primarily on structuring technical activities from the initiation of development to launch. We advocate major advances on three fronts; first, implementing an end-to-end process from the front end through field operations, second, integrating business considerations much better into the end-to-end process, and third, incorporating a performance improvement closed loop into the process. We call the resulting process a Product Development Business Process. Three initial applications are summarized. / Improving product development processes along three key vectors leads to greatly improved business performance. / Center for Innovation in Product Development
