Cultural Route As An Approach To Foster Regional Cultural Sustainability : A Study of Swedish Explorer Sven Hedin’s Expedition Heritage along the Silk Road in Northwest ChinaZhang, Wei January 2021 (has links)
This dissertation strives to analyze the role of the cultural route as an approach and evaluates its validity to foster regional cultural sustainability. The author has investigated the relationship between cultural route, cultural sustainability, and regional development through studying Swedish explorer Sven Hedin’s expedition heritage along the Silk Road. A qualitative approach was taken to study how practitioners in particular tourism subdivisions attempt to implanting Sven Hedin’s legacy into different practices in Northwest China. With the help of the Actor-Network Theory as a material-semiotic method, a significant finding is that evolutionary networks centered on Sven Hedin, as an internal drive to promote the development of cultural routes, are taking shape. Cultural route as an approach to foster regional development cannot be achieved independently by individuals and SMEs; an institutional dimension needs to be considered for integrated management. This approach offers a new participation model in regional construction to their recipients and provides a sustainable strength for inhabitants to understand their cultural identity and embrace their future.

Československé expediční horolezkyně v běhu každodennosti od počátků tzv. normalizace do roku 1989 / Ordinary life of Czechoslovakian female mountain climbers during the period of so-called normalization till 1989Kramářová, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
The thesis is devoted to the topic of ordinary life of women mountain climbers in the period of Czechoslovakian socialism (specifically between the years 1969 -1989). Through analysis and interpretationof oral historical interviews with women climbers who had participated in the national expeditions to foreign mountains, the author will reflect the following topics: how it could be possible to become a member of selective expedition team; how this "job" women climbers combined with a daily life, working duty, and its obligations in the family. The study will also focus on the issues of travelling, climbing topic as a prestigious international competition and presentation of this prestige by executive body; it will not stay aloof from the reflection of social or physical differences between Czechoslovakian climbers and other international teams and the intervention of the Communist Party in the composition of the expeditions. The work draw ordinariness of extraordinary fates of Czechoslovak women athletes - climbers nearer, and offers one of the possible approach to the relatively unexplored sector of Czechoslovakian sport.

[pt] LEMBRANÇAS DE SOL, SUL E ROSA: UMA EXPEDIÇÃO AO PANTANAL E SEUS ARQUIVOS / [en] REMEMBRANCES OF SOL, SUL AND ROSA: AN EXPEDITION TO THE PANTANAL AND ITS ARCHIVES09 November 2022 (has links)
[en] The thesis developed within the scope of the Culture and Contemporaneity
Literature Program results from the research, gathering and presentation of
documents and memories about a scientific expedition to the Pantanal region that
took place in 1947. The investigation focuses on the artistic and scientific dimensions
of the expedition, by presenting general contexts of the voyage and of its
participants; it also raises questions about methods for narrating and envisioning
landscapes and takes the form of a verbal-visual miscellany. The work unfolds within
two moments: firstly, focuses on the presentation of the expedition that left the
former Brazilian Federal District, Rio de Janeiro, composed of a group of students
from the University of Brazil, led by the geographer Hilgard Sternberg, and another
group of students from the Rio Branco Institute led by the diplomat and writer João
Guimarães Rosa. The second moment turns to the research methodology used in the
thesis and reflects on the transit from technical-scientific to speculative and artistic
scopes, reflecting on different spheres of knowledge and experimenting with verbalvisual
languages, working with fragments of the expedition and conceptual
speculations. This effort constitutes the invention of an archive of its own,
transforming traces, memories and useless papers into documents. The core of the
research is the material generated by the expedition s participants, kept in public and
domestic archives, such as: publications, narrated memories, photographs,
correspondence and notebooks, among which we find unpublished manuscripts by Rosa.

Object itineraries of metal artifacts from the Stark Farm Site Complex (22OK778)Hale, Madeleine Marie 08 August 2023 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis focuses on creating a deeper understanding of European-made metal objects uncovered at a Late Mississippian period site by using an object itinerary theoretical framework. This theory allows for objects to be understood and analyzed without bias as it acknowledges Indigenous and archaeological perspectives by considering the many different contexts an object moves through. I apply this theory to these European-made metal objects that were transformed and used by the Chicasa as a way to introduce a more collaborative and holistic approach to the other analytical methods being used at Stark Farm (22OK778). This process was completed by using a variety of methods, from statistical analysis to thorough literature review, to investigate the different interactions and stoppage points that the objects have traveled along and through.

An application for registration of ownership that is dormant declared when buying a part of a property can be used to secure ownership. An expedition fee of SEK 825 must be paid by the buyer when the dormant registration of ownership is taken. An expedition fee of SEK 825 is to be paid by the buyer when the dormant registration of ownership becomes a registration of ownership or becomes rejected. In the case of a respite decision no expedition fee is paid for the respite decision. An expedition fee of SEK 825 shall be paid by the buyer when the respite decision becomes a registration of ownership or becomes rejected. This study is requested by Lantmäteriet and is based on the question of whether an abolition of the expedition fee should take place. The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge of dormant registration of ownership during the process of buying a part of a property. The study also examines whether the expedition fee affects the buyer's approach when buying a part of a property. The aim of this study is to clarify how the real estate market looks at the expedition fee for the application for registration of ownership that receives a dormant decision. To find out the answer to study's research questions, two methods have been applied. A qualitative study in which interviews with three different target groups have been selected and a quantitative study in which statistics from the Real Property Register have examined. The results of the study show a lack of knowledge of dormant registration of ownership among the study's target groups. The result also shows that realtor and bank clerk rarely recommend sale of a part of a property. It is also a lacking information to customers and interested parties about the stage at which an application for registration of ownership can be made when buying part of a property. Registration clerks at Registration of real property are looking for reasons why the application for registration of ownership should receive a respite decision instead of a dormant decision for the customer to avoid the double expedition fee, which indicates an unsustainable system. The study's discussion covers the opinions that emerged from the study's results. In addition, it is discussed how the abolition of the expedition fee for dormant registration of ownership enforcement would affect the purchase buying a part of a property. The conclusion for the study is that that real estate market generally looks at dormant registration of ownership during the process of buying a part of a property as a mistake or as something missing instead of a security. And that the use of dormant registration of ownership when buying a part of a property should not be changed.

This work intends to investigate the trajectory of the report written by Alejandro Malaspina after he concludes his expedition, which took course during 1789-1794. Despite having been written since 1789 until 1796, the report would remain unpublished until 1885 due to political plots in which Malaspina took part after his triumphal return to Spain. We propose to study the different contexts that integrate the report, such as the tensions and relationships between science, politics and colonial speech during the 18th and 19th centuries. This study has been split into three sections: first we present the context previous to the expedition, in which Malaspina created the foundations of his political and scientific thought as well as the terms in which he would formulate his own speech. The second period corresponds to the years in which the expedition took place, that is, between 1789 and 1794 - here we shall study the context in which the report was written, as well as the evaluation of the Spanish colonies and politics made by the Italian captain. Last but not least, we will analyze the context of publication in the late 19th century, trying to comprehend the different readings made by different reader communities and the tensions and coercions they suffered due to the publication of the report in 1885.

Previous issue date: 2017-06-21 / I decided to divide the thesis into 3 main chapters that covers, each one the 3 Expeditions; another one chapter describes their Creation
Process and the last one I conclude with my Final Considerations.
Chapter One is about the « Journey to the Center of the Earth » and it starts with the story of how we found the Tunnel and its state
was when we first saw it. Then, I present a small part of the conversation Karman and I had in 2015, concerning the origins of the show’s
creation process, illustrated with photos and sketches that I produced at that time.
Next I start an approach (that I called Arraiolo) in which I explain my current ideas regarding documents produced by R. Karman as:
"Assembly Schedule" where he describes the production phases and their dates, "Texts from the Expeditionary Manual "taken from the
leaflet distributed to the participating public (named "expeditionary") where we placed a lot of information about the "trip” and "Texts
of the Expedition", including the actors and scenic lines, as well as his comments.
This material is complemented by initial sketches I drew from each idea generated in my creative process, photos and media material.
This kind of continuous approach is also used in the other two subsequent chapters.
"The Great Journey of Merlin" is Chapter Two’s central theme, beginning with the creation of the visual identity by me; then another
piece of conversation I had with Karman where we covered the process of procedural research for the spaces and how it defined the
scenes.
Then the "Texts’ Creation Process" where Karman reports their genealogy: books, invited writers and texts by various authors; "History
and General Data on the Expedition", "Mechanics of the Show: the Transportation", and "The Cost of the Show" where production
processes, logistics, administration and factual information are analysed.
From there I develop the script’s analysis, divided in four parts based on the locations:
- "Travel Agency" showing descriptions, texts and comments of the seven initial scenes, which all happened in São Paulo, around
Sumaré district, illustrated with sketches and photos.
- "Landfill" with scenes 8 and 9 that happened at the Sanitary landfill in Perus (SP), (texts, sketches and photos).
- "Polytheama" with scenes 10 and 11, (with 23 sub-scenes) that took place in Jundiai (SP) at the Polytheama Theater,
- "Niniane Lagoon" analyses scenes 12 to the final 13, which happened in a lagoon around the now extinct Nivoloni Pottery.
At the end of the chapter, there is a reproduction of articles commenting on the show, within the national and international media.
by narrating the years of research and laboratories in areas equivalent to the original São Paulo Expedition, with the respective
processes until the final stage of the Inflatable Installation at the Citizenship Hangar. Architectural plans, sketches, promotion materials,
and in the end, articles published within the media illustrate Karman's explanatory narrative based on my comments in 23 scenes. I
highlighted a special chapter at the end of this Expedition to analyse the Inflatable Installation and its difference from a simple theatrical
scenario. This chapter also shows its "making of". (I also included a video as an appendix).
Chapter Four deals with the "Expedition’s Creation Process Map" where the trajectory of processes is displayed on a graphic. The
intention is to trace the process development from its formative origins to the final show in its variations through the seasons. In the
same chapter, the item "Deepening the Process Topics", I explain in more detail specific aspects of the Creation Process. I've also inserted
some "Testimonials from the Cast" only as a sample, since they are also displayed on video, in full at the Attachment.
In the Final Considerations I approach the "Thesis Creation Process" where I describe what it meant to me to perform "An Academic
Thesis made by an Artist". I explain the "Arraiolo" method of the Expeditions that I invented and I also added the "Theoretical Reflections
on the Thesis’ Creation Process", in which I comment in topics, theoretical aspects of the conduction of the thesis researched by other
authors.
Finally, in the Attachments, essential parts are added to the corpus of the Thesis for documentary importance, offered in "digital media"
(pen-drive). I gathered video documentaries of the Expeditions; Conversations between Karman and me in 2015; and other
