Tose, Marilia de Gonzaga Lima e Silva 28 April 2005 (has links)

Telework is a new form of working, performed from home and using information technology and telecommunications. A qualitative, exploratory and empirical research was done, interviewing twenty-one teleworkers from two enterprises, chosen according to the criterion of accessibility. We started analyzing the changing process from the traditional workplace in an organization s office to the new remote form, focussing mainly on the feelings of the people. We also emphasized the life of the workers at home and the intersubjectivities with their families. The problems resulting from a new space-time dimension, the issue of new roles assumed and the identifications that led to new identities, those aspects were all studied in depth. We still approached the social relationship between the interviewees and their colleagues and managers of the enterprises they work for. The resulting data showed that working at home can lead to improvement in the quality of life (well-being). The worker is freer and has more autonomy to organize him/herself, applying his/her own rhythm to professional tasks. The use of a domestic workplace, however, requires an adaptation of the intersubjectivities. It is necessary to find a balance between the different scenes the working and the family one- coexisting in the same space. In this study, it can be observed that teleworkers achieve the above demands. There seem to be gains in the family relationships, due to the fact that workers are more available for domestic routines without neglecting either professional commitment or involvement. It was still noticed and analyzed some rather uneasy feeling caused by the (physical) distance to the entrepreneurial environment. There are losses in the relationship with colleagues and the employing organization, which can jeopardize the career development and become a suffering. According to the way the teleworkers adapt themselves to the new working relationships, the suffering can grow into a pathology or otherwise, become creative / O presente estudo teve por objetivo pesquisar uma nova forma de trabalho, denominada teletrabalho.

'Catch-22'?: The Assessment of Credibility in UK Asylum Applications

Kendall, Frances January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to contribute to an understanding of how the credibility of asylum-seekers is being assessed in the UK; how narratives are valued by decision-makers and tribunal judges, how applicants’ credibility is determined, and what issues may be found with this process. I conducted interviews with seven lawyers who represent asylum-seekers, one decision-maker and one retired tribunal judge to establish their perspectives on the assessment of credibility in the UK. I then analysed these results through the theoretical framework of the sociology of law, focusing on the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Michel Foucault. I firstly examined specific problematic areas in the practice of credibility assessment, before going on to explore broader contextual factors which may help to explain such issues. This study found that the greatest problems with credibility assessment in practice were demanding expectations of asylum-seekers and misapplication of the government guidelines on credibility, miscommunications and mistranslations, and a lack of considered reasoning in decision-making. These issues were shown to be driven by five main factors: a culture of disbelief, a lack of resources, information and communication issues, ineffective guidelines and the inherently subjective nature of credibility. The results of this study bring into question the neutrality and efficacy of the current system of credibility assessment in practice and its capacity to protect those fleeing persecution under the 1951 Refugee Convention.

Příčiny a důsledky workoholismu u žen v době koronavirové krize / Workoholism among working women duin the COVID19 crisis: causes and consequences

Pleskačová, Valérie January 2022 (has links)
This work aims to determine the causes and consequences of workaholism in women working in corporate who had to move from offices to home offices during the coronavirus crisis. The research is conducted on a sample of fourteen women respondents and one male respondent. The selection was made using the snowball method based on age, education, marital status and employment in Alza.cz or Mall.cz e-shops. All participants answered open questions in essays focused on their home office work habits, daily routine and family relationship. Data were analyzed using grounded theory, based on which I developed eight categories - interest in work, stress/fear, workspace, work schedule, setting boundaries between work and personal life, leisure activities, social interactions and roles in the household. These I subsequently organized and discussed in connection with previous research focused on workaholism, work from home and work-family conflict, such as Samantha Ammons, Cecilia Andreassen or Bryan Robinson. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes the results, the limits of the study and recommendations for future research.

Coupled with technological progress, a large degree of connectivity and a new profile of workers opened up many opportunities and relevant aspects that have changed the way of working and their relations in several countries, including Brazil. This technological progress has provided contemporary workers to pursue alternative working outside of the workplace, the office and outside your residence without physical boundaries. Also provided the change in culture of both organizations, as employees, without compromising the Brazilian formal contractual character played by CLT or the Unified Contracting Regime. The emergence of this new type of worker needs to be inserted in the labor market respecting their peculiarities, either by private or public companies. Through a historical review of labor relations and their transformations over time, this research makes a brief reflection and analysis about telework in the Brazilian public administration, implementation, acceptance, advantages, disadvantages, difficulties, external and internal reflections, cultural impact, among others, that this 'new' way of working brings to Brazilian society and the various levels of government.

This research aims at fostering understanding of telework, especially its dynamic when working is carried out at home domains, through the practice of the home-based telework. It explores how teleworkers make sense out of the dilemmas, opportunities and demands of teleworking from home, through the analysis of their discursive practices. Therefore, semistructured interviews were conducted with a sample of 25 teleworkers and their respective coresidents and analyzed using the method of content analysis. The study reveals that when the home gives place to the professional activities of an individual, the relationship among the personal, family and professional demands become closer, blurred and interlaced. The merging of the working and non-working spheres conducts to a rupture of the spatial, temporal and psychological contours of these domains, bringing the individuals selfdevelopment opportunities. However, the transformations that these individuals will have to face represent contradictory potentialities. Whilst telework brings an opportunity of family integration and flexibility for the better use of working and non-working time, the difficulty of balancing two cultural systems constructed over distinct discourses, the private sphere and the public sphere, may lead to a crisis, depending on the preparation of each family to receive this mode of working from home. In order to contribute to the interpretation of the results, the most expressive topics, which illustrate the above exposed, were presented in four themes related to telehomework: space, time flexibility, gender and work-life balance.

Alvarado Ojeda, Antoni Nick, Ancachi Quispe, Ruth Griselda, Arias Saucedo, Erick, López Quispe, Miguel Ángel, Montes Paredes, Karen Pilar 06 December 2020 (has links)
The objective of this research work is to validate the business project for the installation and sell of windows that reduce noise, Easy Windows, aimed at homes in Metropolitan Lima belonging to segments A and B that present the problem of external noise in their homes. For this, different qualitative and quantitative methodologies were carried out, such as in-depth interviews, surveys, and the creation of a minimum viable product to confirm the existence of the problem and confirm the hypothesis. Thus, some specific objectives were also verified, such as the willingness of the target market to invest in a solution to external noise. In addition to verifying which are the main factors in which homes are affected because of this problem. The noise pollution problem has existed for several decades but has worsened as a result of the confinement caused by the Covid 19 pandemic since new habits and therefore new needs have been generated. Thus, there is a great business opportunity to solve this problem through the commercialization of aluminum and glass windows that reduce noise. Finally, our business plan produces optimal financial results with an IRR of 141.54% and an NPV of $ 598,609. Therefore, we can conclude that, according to the analysis carried out in this project, the development of the Easy Windows company is economically viable. / Trabajo de investigación

You Are on Mute : A study on the impact of the digitalisation of communication on experienced interactions in organisations

Knorr, Endimione, Schreml, Christina January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to interpret the changed interactions and communication in the workplace due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the massive changes in society and the workplace, it is important to look into this aspect of the pandemic’s consequences. The research question “What impact does the expedited digitalisation of communication, caused by the global pandemic of 2020, have on the experienced interactions in organisational contexts?” allows for easy access into different aspects of the topic by conducting the study relatively broadly. In order to answer the research question, semi-structured interviews with employees, who were working during the pandemic, were held and all necessary data was extracted from these interviews. This data was then interpreted in light of the four principal theoretical topics: Communication, Social Interaction, Work Life and Leadership Relations. Certain similarities, but also paradoxes were discovered in the findings, and therefore discussed through paradoxical lenses. The basic findings concerning the research question are that many changes happened in opposing directions, for example having at the same time more, but also less communication. This double shift applies to almost all findings. To put these findings into practical use, organisations and companies should consider their team’s needs and optimise the working structures between hybrid and on-site in order to get the best possible working results.

The Home-Office Lighting Kit

Mordeglia, Cristina January 2021 (has links)
This Master Thesis, inspired by the relevance that home-offices have assumed as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, originated from the architectural, quantitative, and qualitative analysis of lighting within the author’s student accommodation on KTH Main Campus, in Stockholm (Sweden). As a matter of fact, this background study proved that recommended lighting levels (Illuminance, Contrast Ratio, CCT, CRI, M-EDI, and DER values) were not met, making the space unsuitable and unhealthy to both live and work in. Moreover, evaluating individual lighting preferences, it was demonstrated that flexibility, customizability, and adaptability to daylighting and tasks are fundamental requirements for working from home.Considering the temporary nature of students’ leases, the idea of developing an inexpensive and easily assemblable kit of smart products, aimed at improving lighting in dormitories, came quite naturally. To study the implementation of visual comfort and focus on tasks, literature review, market analysis, quantitative measurements, and hands-on experiments were carried on.Thus, with the gained knowledge and experience, the Home-Office Lighting Kit, an array of commercially available sockets, shades, and smart sources, supporting circadian rhythm and individual preferences, was proposed. Along with it, instructions on set-up and scenarios were provided.Although the overall conclusion was that the market needs products with a better balance between price, sturdiness, and reliability, the lighting conditions within the case study space were substantially improved, making other students interested in doing the same.Eventually, interesting cues for the sector’s development were proposed.

How Brazilians Used Media to Cope with the Issues Brought by the COVID-19 Pandemic

Campos, Vivian de Melo 21 April 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world faced lockdown and quarantine restrictions that encouraged or forced people to stay home. Along with the rest of the world, Brazil faced many difficulties during this period and it became one of the countries that lost more lives due to the Coronavirus infection worldwide. This study focuses on showing how people in Brazil coped with the challenges brought by the pandemic. It also focuses on showing if and how participants used media as a coping mechanism. The research was done through qualitative methods with semi-structured interviews with 25 adults who were living in Brazil during the pandemic and the lockdown restrictions. This study shows that participants did use media as a coping mechanism and even though they have encountered negative consequences, they have also faced and mentioned several positive effects during this period. Participants mentioned other coping mechanisms that made a difference for them during the darkest moments in the pandemic like, having interpersonal communication with family and friends, religion, gaming, and others.
