Elevråd : Elevrådsarbete i två skolor

Bergström, Malin January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of this thesis is to determine whether the student councils at two schools really have the power to influence, or if it is a matter of mock democracy. I wanted to determine how the student councils work in reality. I conducted my investigation through personal and qualitative interviews with the board of the student council, a social studies teacher and the principle/school management at both schools. After the interviews I compared an analysed my findings. The results show that the two schools work very differently when it comes to studentdemocracy, and even have very different levels of ambition when it comes to the degree of influence that the student council should have at their respective schools. Still, in reality the council at both schools function much the same. They are not fully functional and don’t manage to accomplish much, other than basic things like what the school should look like or which shirts the council should have. My opinion is that there seems be some extent of mock democracy at one of the schools, but that at the same timed there is the need to further examine and determine what studentdemocracy really means today, and should mean in the future, in the context of student councils. Otherwise the schools will never have a fully functional student council.

Elevers känslor och tankar om betyg i år 9

Gallegos Jr, Bruno, Nord, Linda January 2006 (has links)

Marks do not only work as an acknowledge of the effort that has been made under a long period of time, but also as a receipt for eligibility to further studies. Within the political debate, marks have often caused a big discussion among the political parties. That is due to the obvious difference between the political parties on the left, and their counterparts on the right. However, there is one thing that they all have in common. Everyone of them have plans of measure within their political agenda, regarding the use of marks.

The aim of this study has been to try to understand the way pupils think about marks. We have conducted a survey and several interviews with pupils from the final classes in the 9-year compulsory school to find out their experiences of the marks and how it affects them.

According to our study, marks affects pupils in several different ways, both in a positive and a negative way. Some pupils feel stress or pressure, others gets motivated, and some might feel happy or depressed when they receive their marks. Regardless of what feeling the pupils have, one thing is for sure, marks do affect them in one way or another.

This master thesis aim – to analyze the dynamics of oil prices and oil price changes effects on the economy. The first part deals with oil price changes in the historical aspects of the change, the authors’ opininion on oil price changes are revealed, most important oil supply and demand factors are revealed, as evidenced by oil price developments and the importance of forecasting models are analyzed in detail. The second part consists of rigorous impact of oil price movements of global market analysis, to calculate oil price changes impact on the economic grwth, regression analysis is used. The third part presents the changes in oil prices in the future prospects of using future trends forecasting agencies, created three scenarios of oil price changes in the model. An investigation showed that the price of oil varies from a very range of variables, changes have significant variation in the macroeconomic process, including economc growth. So it is important to investigate the reasons for variation in oil prices. It has been reviewed and evaluated a wide variation in oil prices and anticipation of their impact on literary analysis. Regression analysis was the change in oil prices and economic growth interface. It was the future of oil prices changes features to create three future scenarios of oil price movements.

Progress towards the synthesis of Indolizidine alkaloid 223AB

January 2008 (has links)
It has been shown that alkaloids from various sources are vital as lead compounds in medicinal research and thus also the efficient synthesis of these. With the goal of developing a general synthetic route that can potentially access pyrrolizidine, indolizidine, quinolizidine and possibly lehmizidine alkaloid skeletons, a modified route that has been shown to produce pyrrolizidines was employed towards the synthesis of indolizidine alkaloid 223AB. Within this synthesis, a 6-endo-dig hydroamination-cyclization step was attempted for construction of the bicyclic system. For this purpose, a selection of titanium-based catalysts were synthesized in order to determine their regiochemical outcome. For the purpose of investigating ab initio the mechanism of regioselective hydroamination, the skills and methods involved in computational chemistry were acquired through a study into amide rotational barriers: A range of novel 2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl dimethylcarbamates were synthesised containing either an oxygen or sulphur in the α-position to the carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group of the amide moiety. Microwave synthesis was essential for the successful synthesis of some of the sulphur containing carbamates. The barriers to internal rotation of each of these compounds were investigated as follows. Variable Temperature and Exchange Spectroscopy NMR was performed on these compounds and the barrier to free amide rotation was calculated. Each of these compounds were also modeled ab initio and the gas phase barrier to rotation calculated. These three sets of data were compared and the influence of the α-heteroatom on rotation for amides and thioamides evaluated. / Thesis (M.Sc.) - University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2008.

THE LIMITS TO INFLUENCE: THE CLUB OF ROME AND CANADA, 1968 TO 1988

Churchill, Jason L January 2006 (has links)
This dissertation is about influence which is defined as the ability to move ideas forward within, and in some cases across, organizations. More specifically it is about an extraordinary organization called the Club of Rome (COR), who became advocates of the idea of greater use of systems analysis in the development of policy. The systems approach to policy required rational, holistic and long-range thinking. It was an approach that attracted the attention of Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Commonality of interests and concerns united the disparate members of the COR and allowed that organization to develop an influential presence within Canada during Trudeau's time in office from 1968 to 1984.

The story of the COR in Canada is extended beyond the end of the Trudeau era to explain how the key elements that had allowed the organization and its Canadian Association (CACOR) to develop an influential presence quickly dissipated in the post-1984 era. The key reasons for decline were time and circumstance as the COR/CACOR membership aged, contacts were lost, and there was a political paradigm shift that was antithetical to COR/CACOR ideas. The broader circumstances that led to the rise and fall of the COR/CACOR's influential presence in Canada from 1968 to circa 1988 also provides a fascinating opportunity to assess political and intellectual tumult and change.

Specific organizations where the COR/CACOR's influential presence was felt included: the Ministry of State for Science and Technology, the International Development Research Centre, the Institute for Research on Public Policy, the Foundation for International Training, and the University of Guelph

Troilus : in the Boethian tradition

Ross, Margaret K. January 1977 (has links)
In Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde, the main character Troilus depicts the overt and covert ideology of Boethius's The Consolation of Philosophy. Clearly, Troilus meets with the Boethian question of free will, views it from the perspective of a Boethian universe, and closes with Boethius's suggestion to serve God. Less apparently, Troilus shows that in order to discern the ultimate Boethian position on free will, the conflict between reason and passion must also be resolved. Because he succumbs to passion and loses his ability to reason, Troilus appears illogical and negative when he discusses free will. In heaven, though, Troilus experiences the ultimate Boethian state and acclaims the final Boethian pronouncement that results from the resolution of not only the free will-necessity question but also the reason passion issue. Perceiving his situation intuitively and thus circumventing the deductive process, Troilus rejects a life given to following "blynde lust" and commends one dedicated to God. In doing so, he illustrates both the apparent and the obscure of Boethian philosophy.

The influence of administrative duties on effective classroom management in the Further Education and Training (FET) phase / Gideon Petrus van Tonder

Van Tonder, Gideon Petrus January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of administrative duties on effective classroom management in the Further Education and Training phase in the Sedibeng West District (08) of the Gauteng Province by focusing on classroom management; management skills of professional teachers; the relationship between teaching and management; guidelines for effective classroom management; juridical aspects regarding classroom management; workload of school-based teachers; duties and responsibilities of teachers; impact of workload of school-based teachers; educational policies; other policies and factors impacting on teachers' workload; and factors that drive teachers away from teaching. The literature study reveals that administrative duties take up a great deal of teachers' time. This is due to a number of factors, namely: shortages of teachers and high learner numbers; departmental accountability measures such as the Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS); curriculum and assessment requirements; and the lack of basic resources. Stress regarding classroom administration exacerbates because teachers have to perform a variety of tasks, from secretarial and administrative to curricular, extracurricular and pastoral work. A major finding emanating from the research is that teachers should be released from excessive amounts of administrative duties and other activities that increase their workload and distract their focus from teaching. In order to eliminate these excessive amounts of administrative duties, the Department of Education should, through proper planning and cooperation with the School Management Team (SMT) provide extra posts in schools for administrators who can assist teachers. The empirical study consists of a structured questionnaire distributed to a sample of principals, deputy principals, heads of departments and teachers in schools in the Sedibeng West District (08) of the Gauteng Province. It aims to develop guidelines to assist teachers to cope better with the increased administrative demands. The main findings of the study reveal that most teachers have difficulties in coping with the pace at which the Whole School Evaluation Policy, IQMS, Continuous Assessment Policy and the new curriculum are being implemented. Together with the increased amount of administrative duties, an urgent need exists for support from the Department of Education and the District Office regarding the implementation and the alleviation of administrative demands. This study recommends, on the basis of both the literature review and the empirical research, guidelines to assist all teachers in coping with these increased administrative demands effectively. / Thesis (M.Ed.
