Between Mobile Clients and Datacenters

Sidenvall, Adrian, Truong, Andy, Boman, Erik, Szreder, Mikael, Lind, Oskar, Eriksson, Simon, Petersson, Simon January 2015 (has links)

Approches intelligentes pour le pilotage adaptatif des systèmes en flux tirés dans le contexte de l'industrie 4.0 / Intelligent approaches for handling adaptive pull control systems in the context of industry 4.0

Azouz, Nesrine 28 June 2019 (has links)
Today, many production systems are managed in "pull" control system and used "card-based" methods such as: Kanban, ConWIP, COBACABANA, etc. Despite their simplicity and efficiency, these methods are not suitable when production is not stable and customer demand varies. In such cases, the production systems must therefore adapt the “tightness” of their production flow throughout the manufacturing process. To do this, we must determine how to dynamically adjust the number of cards (or e-card) depending on the context. Unfortunately, these decisions are complex and difficult to make in real time. In addition, in some cases, changing too often the number of kanban cards can disrupt production and cause a nervousness problem. The opportunities offered by Industry 4.0 can be exploited to define smart flow control strategies to dynamically adapt this number of kanban cards. In this thesis, we propose, firstly, an adaptive approach based on simulation and multi-objective optimization technique, able to take into account the problem of nervousness and to decide autonomously (or to help managers) when and where adding or removing Kanban cards. Then, we propose a new adaptive and intelligent approach based on a neural network whose learning is first realized offline using a twin digital model (simulation) and exploited by a multi-objective optimization method. Then, the neural network could be able to decide in real time, when and at which manufacturing stage it is relevant to change the number of kanban cards. Comparisons made with the best methods published in the literature show better results with less frequent changes.

Fertigungssteuerung in der Musterfertigung von Systemlieferanten

Kienzle, Florian 09 January 2012 (has links)
Sample production of tier 1 automotive suppliers demands producing simultaneously different product samples in many customised versions and within various maturity levels. The associated variability of the time-phased work content leads to a high degree of complexity and turbulence in the manufacturing process of such a production type. Therefore, sample production control becomes significantly more complicated and most existing control approaches fail in the real world. For this reason the present thesis examines this subject matter by means of a comparative case study. Based on the findings a customized production control concept will be introduced that fully adapts the specific needs of sample production of tier 1 automotive suppliers.

Applying lean principles to transform conventional oil and gas production operations in a Gulf State into cleaner energy

Alsayigh, Ali January 2015 (has links)
There is much interest in the protection of the ecosystem within the oil and gas industry. This is particularly significant in the countries of the Middle East where the oil and gas sectors contribute a large part, in some cases all of the country economies. A case study research analysis into the Lean and Green principles of one of the State of Kuwait organisations could offer the country huge potential and could benefit other Arabian Gulf countries. In the chosen country (Kuwait), Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has no other outlet for its business apart from oil and gas production. It also does not concern itself with other support business that could contribute to Kuwait's economy.

KANBAN Implementation from a Change Management Perspective : A Case Study of Volvo IT

Amin, Mahgol, Kubo, Tomomi January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and analyze the implementation process of KANBAN, a lean technique, into a section of Volvo IT (i.e. BEAT). The KANBAN implementation into BEAT when ‘resistance for change’ and ‘forces for change’ arise is also analyzed. This implementation of KANBAN is equivalent to change taking place in the Volvo IT’s operational process. The thesis follows theories and literature on change management and lean principles in order to support the research investigation. How has KANBAN, with respect to change management, been implemented into an IT organization for its service production? How has KANBAN changed the operational process of the organization?  The research conducted in the thesis is based on qualitative case study. Focused and in-depth interviews, combined with observations, are carried out to obtain the primary data for the case study. The collected primary and secondary data stems from the literature reviewed, which covers the lean principles, KANBAN, and change management. Moreover, the thesis adopts an abductive approach that goes back-and-forth between the theory and the empirical findings in order to develop a model. Due to various factors already existing in the BEAT, minimal resistance to change implementation was found to be present in Volvo IT. This finding indicates that change initiatives found a way to implementation because the predominance of the ‘forces for change’, as compared to, the ‘resistance to change’ is higher in BEAT. The KANBAN implementation into the IT service production is identified to be aligned with Volvo IT’s change implementation objectives. The visualization of the ‘intangible service’ workflow on the Kanban board contributes to identify the source of bottlenecks, which has been removed through effective communication in the BEAT team and better linkages between tasks. The KANBAN effectively deals with change implementation by modifying the way team members work.
