Agile Development in a Lonely Environment : How to Develop Software Using Agile Techniques Within Small-Scale Projects / Agil utveckling i en ensam miljö

Lindblom, Mathias January 2015 (has links)
Most Agile Software Development methodologies are aimed towards large companies and large-scale projects. The purpose of this report was to identify, and potentially modify, Agile Development methodologies and strategies suitable for small-scale projects. Initially a comprehensive study was conducted on a few selected agile methodologies in order to find the most suitable one to be used for a loosely defined small-scale project. The result of the study led to the methodology Kanban being used experimentally on that project. The report goes through how Kanban was utilized and modified to better suit the project as well as bring forward interesting details regarding the outcome of the actual project. The produced methodology, with Kanban at its core, can especially be of use for small IT companies looking for an agile methodology fitting their project(s). It could also be used to further develop alternative variants of the agile methodology Kanban with focus on small-scale projects.

Behnam, Humam January 2022 (has links)
This thesis investigates the problem of detecting and tracking sticky notes on Kanban boards using classical computer vision techniques. Currently, there exists some alternatives for digitizing sticky notes, but none keep track of notes that have already been digitized, allowing for duplicate notes to be created when scanning multiple images of the same Kanban board. Kanban boards are widely used in various industries, and being able to recognize, and possibly in the future even digitize entire Kanban boards could provide users with extended functionality. The implementation presented in this thesis is able to, given two images, detect the Kanban boards in each image and rectify them. The rectified images are then sent to the Google Cloud Vision API for text detection. Then, the rectified images are used to detect all the sticky notes. The positional information of the notes and columns of the Kanban boards are then used to filter the text detection to find the text inside each note as well as the header text for each column. Between the two images, the columns are compared and matched, as well as notes of the same color. If columns or notes in one image do not have a match in the second image, it is concluded that the boards are different, and the user is informed of why. If all columns and notes in one image have matches in the second image but some notes have moved, the user is informed of which notes that have moved, and how they have moved as well. The different experiments conducted in this thesis on the implementation show that it works well, but it is very confined to strict requirements, making it unsuitable for commercial use. The biggest problem to solve is to make the implementation more general, i.e. the Kanban board layout, sticky note shapes and colors as well as their actual content.

Nisar, Asim January 2019 (has links)
This thesis is about product and process development. The thesis has been done at ABB Robotics AB in Västerås under 20 weeks with half study pace, which is equivalent to 15 higher education credits (15hp). Thesis purpose was to improve an assembly station for assembling of robot IRB 360. Problems at the assembly station are that there are some non-value-creating activities and assembling methods which correspond to low safety factor for workers. The focus of thesis was to investigate opportunities and to produce solid proposals for how to eliminate these problems. After a written contract with ABB AB, the work started with the planning with the company supervisor and Gantt Schema was created to schedule all steps for this project, to ensure during the process. The project has followed the methods described in the book "Produktutveckling konstruktion och design " by Karl T Ulrich & Steven D Eppinger. Product development tools like Quality function deployment (QFD), functional analysis, specification of requirement and Pugh's analysis matrix have been used in the development process. In the first phase of the project, observation and investigation has been performed to identify and analyse problems. In the later phases, ideas and concepts has created to solve the problems and achieve successful results. The result of the project is an improved material flow at assembling stations which eliminates nonvalue-creating activities and leads to better safety for workers. Another result of the project is an elimination of hand hammering at assembling station and for this purpose a new pressing tool has been developed for pressing down a seals around radial shaft in assembling process. The software Solidworks has been used to create a new 3D layout for the existing assembly station to understand and find the better solution for material flow. Solidworks is also used for doing Finite element method (FEM) analysis to validate the new developed pressing tool.

Fritz, Minanda January 2018 (has links)
Background: The Swedish Royal School of Technology (KTH) was hired to conduct a pilot study project on stress prevention, "Stress Prevention Project" in a Swedish high-tech global manufacturing company with headquarters in Sweden. The aim was to identify the root causes of stress among employees at the organizational level and to offer a way to prevent the root causes. The initiative to implement the project came from the HR department in the company. The occupational health department had not been able to lower the costs of sickness and rehabilitation. One of nine divisions was included in this evaluation study. The project was carried out during the years of 2012-2014, and three quantitative stress measurements were carried out using the modern working environment form “Modern Work Life” based of knowledge from KTH and designed by Metodicum. The present study has evaluated the root causes of the division's stress. In the division, it was stated that the risk areas that the division had to work with were: resources, demands, control, support but also leadership and reorganization with implementing the Agile methods (autonomous work) in the form of. The aim was to improve the psychosocial occupational health and to make the production work more efficient. Aim: The aim was to evaluate the effect of stress preventive measures in one of the nine divisions (that were included in the overall project) and the effect of implementing the Agile methods (autonomous work) in the organization. Limitations: The evaluation is restricted to one of the nine divisions. Method: The method is a quantitative and qualitative case study, with a narrative approach. The study includes a division with 200 employees of which data was collected from 18 of these employees in two focus groups interviews. Materials have also been collected from interviews with the division's HR director, section leader, head of unit and head of the organization's business health. The evaluation is based on qualitative data, which were obtained through 3 single interviews and 4 focus group interviews and participant observation. Quantitative data were obtained through three different measurements (between 2012-14). The quantitative data were compared and analyzed with the qualitative data in order to understand the results up to the final measurement 3 (2014). Results: The evaluation of the stress prevention – where the focus was to prevent risk areas including demands, develop resources, control, support and also leadership – showed that introducing and using the Agile working principles had had a significant positive effect on all the risk areas. Additionally, this change in the organization contributed to positive results regarding the efficiency of the production process; a reduction of working hours from 12 months to 2 weeks of action at the same result. The absence due to illness and rehabilitation has been decreasing from 4 % to 0,5-1% right after introducing the Agile methods in the division. However, the results also showed no improvement regarding some other working environment; as conflicts and bullying persisted. This may be due to how the reorganization of the groups was done. It should be clarified that the outcomes may be influenced by the extensive reorganization that took place in connection with the stress prevention project and the introduction of the agile approach. Conclusions - The stress prevention could not have been done efficiently due to other on-going reorganizations in the company and the staff has not been able to follow the recommendation for efficient stress-prevention due to lack of support from the headquarter. That created a crisis in the stress prevention-project group. The agile methods seem to have had a significant good result in all risk areas as resources, demands, control, support and also leadership and the absence has decreased from 4 to 0,5 %. Due to the agile methods have the productions process been shorter from 12 months to 2 weeks.
