[en] ARCHIVE, BODY AND READING: THE MOVEMENTS OF SAMUEL RAWET S WRITING / [pt] ARQUIVO, CORPO E LEITURA: MOVIMENTOS DA ESCRITA DE SAMUEL RAWET

BIANCA IUNG BRUEL 22 May 2020 (has links)
[en] This dissertation is based on the personal collection of Brazilian writer Samuel Rawet, which was donated in 2018 to the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation s Archive Museum of Brazilian Literature. As we turn to Rawet s writing procedures and creative paths, we wish to discuss how his collection can be viewed as an integral part of his literary work. The work is grounded on an understanding that investigating the documentary sources which compose Rawet s collection and considering the possible articulations between them and the author s published texts may open up new pathways into the writer s creative universe, especially by highlighting the movements and processes which characterize his writing — in particular, his production of stories and essays. Our research corpus is primarily based on Rawet s personal notebook and on a selection of the author s transcripts, notes, and typewritten texts. The study, which is informed by Michel Foucault s and Jacques Derrida s contributions, as well as by Reinaldo Marques insights into the scope of literary archives, intertwines thoughts on the formation of Samuel Rawet s collection in the contemporary world with broader reflections on the notion and operation of archives.

[en] THE MUSEUM THAT WAS NOT BORN: LYGIA FAGUNDES TELLES AND THE MUSEUM OF BRAZILIAN LITERATURA COLLECTION IN THE 1970 S / [pt] UM MUSEU QUE NÃO NASCEU: LYGIA FAGUNDES TELLES E A CRIAÇÃO DO MUSEU DA LITERATURA BRASILEIRA NA DÉCADA DE 1970

ELIZAMA ALMEIDA DE OLIVEIRA CARVALHO 18 June 2021 (has links)
[en] The Museum of Brazilian Literatura Collection (MLB), conceived by the writer Lygia Fagundes Telles, holds an appreciable number of literary documents from different authors, but it was never finalized as a real institution. Therefore, it constitutes a gap both for the historiography of literature, museology, and archivology – three areas articulated in this dissertation. The unknown manuscripts, photographs and letters, under the custody of the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB) since 1977, were organized in two categories: document and movement. The researchable items in the document category are in the Museum s collection; while there are those with news behind the scenes in the movement category, revealing a fine articulation between Olga Savary, José Geraldo Nogueira, Almeida Fischer, Plínio Doyle and Lygia Fagundes Telles. Telles will be the principal character whose profile as a writer will matter less than the public manager. To understand the complexity of the Museum s creation initiative, the time frame offers four approaches: hardening military dictatorship, consolidation of preservation policies, development of studies on genetic criticism, and review of museum studies. Primary sources from other institutions were used as bridges, which indicates the methodology adopted by this dissertation, which based on the MLB as the main object, seeks to rethink the notion of literary archive by the volition, community, and desire, as well as the relationship between memory and thought spaces. To materialize the museum that was not born, museudaliteratura.com.br was created, where one can find all the items that originally would have been part of the institution.

Maschinenphilologie

Hiller, Moritz 13 July 2021 (has links)
This dissertation is in pursuit of the elusive agent of philology. Be it literary archives which curate digital remains, textual criticism which processes computer software, or the Digital Humanities as an alleged new paradigm of humanities, digital media poses particular challenges for philology today—not only as an object of study, but also as a methodological tool. "Machine Philology" confronts these challenges, asking more generally how a particular type of machinery affects the premises, practices, and institutions of a scientific field informed by traditional humanism. Central to the project is an inquiry into the notion of subjectivity. For, where not only human beings, but also their machinic Other, reads, writes, archives, and edits, it is to be argued that philology has—following N. Katherine Hayles—become posthumanistic. The dissertation uses this as an opportunity for a fundamental reconsideration of the entangled network of human beings and media that philology can be described as, evacuated of any human-exceptionalism: Philology today is machine philology.
