The ecotype André da Rocha of Paspalum notatum is noteworthy for presenting a high yield potential compared to many ecotypes of the species, that is why, the aim of this study was to quantify the morphogenetic processes that result in greater accumulation of biomass, as well as to quantify the distribution of biomass in plants developed in isolation at different levels of nitrogen. The experiment wasas conducted in a greenhouse at the Faculty of Agronomy of UFRGS and used Leonard jars with complete nutrient solution, except for the N, which was added as NH4NO3 to reach the doses of 37.5, 75, 150 and 300 mg N/pot. We used seven repetitions of one plant per pot in completely randomized design. The leaf expansion rate, the number of green leaves per tiller, the tillering rate, rhizome extension rate and its final size was also positively affected by the addition of N, while the average final leaf length and leaf life span were not affected. After 110 days of plant growth, these were separate in the components roots, rhizomes and shoots. The compartments more responsive to N were the underground portions (roots + rhizomes), which increased 68% and the tillers production that increased tenfold. The biomass of fully expanded leaves on the main stem was greater only at the highest dose, while the mass of expanding leaves was not affected. This ecotype has a high capacity to nitrogen response, manifested through its main morphogenetic characteristics. In presence of limited nitrogen supply, there is a priority of allocation of assimilates to the root system, rather the aerial part, particularly for tillers formation.

The Rhizo-narrative : Ett nytt fält för narrativa nätverkGros, Niko, Hägg, Alexander January 2018 (has links)
The Rhizo-narrative is an investigation about what happens when you combine rhizomes with video game narrative structures that researches and documents the process. We want to know how rhizomes affects video game narratives when used as a tool for developing the narrative itself. We achieve this through creative experiments and concepts. Within this text we go through the purpose of our project, why we chose to work with the terms we worked with, what those terms mean, the results we achieved as well as a detailed discussion about said results, problems and challenges we faced during the projects lifetime. We end with our future thoughts about rhizome based narratives within video games.

A Tree with Roots: Public Administration Ethics from Case Studies to AssemblagesJanuary 2013 (has links)
abstract: This dissertation provides a critical analysis of public administration's understanding of the relationship between rational thought and action in its discourse on ethics. It argues that rationalist ethics assume a particular relationship between thought and action: that good knowledge leads to good, proper action. While there have been many critiques of rationalist administrative ethics, scholars have not examined the way in which rationalism persists in the way in which the teaching of ethics is conducted. The use of the case study figures prominently in this. Thus, the dissertation explores the historical and theoretical intersection of rationalism, ethics, and teaching through the lens of the case study. It begins with a history of the pedagogical use of the case study and the institutional transformations of the university. While conventional accounts of the field locate its founding in the United States in the municipal reform movement, here the founding of the field of public administration is recast through connections to reforms in the university including changes in epistemic assumptions, pedagogical methods, and curricular changes in ethics in which the case study is central and remains so as the field develops. The dissertation then considers scholarship in public administration that raises questions about rationalist ethics. Three critical approaches are explored: recognition of the uncertainty and complexity of administrative practice, critique as unmasking of power relationships, and the shift of ethics from an epistemological to an ontological inquiry. The dissertation builds on the work in this third approach and shows how it attempts to articulate a non-rationalist, or immanent, ethics. This ethics is concerned with exploring the conditions that make possible mutually beneficial relationships and meaningful lives from which categorical norms of the good life could emerge. Drawing on the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, it is argued that the distinction Deleuze and Guattari make between "arborescent" and "rhizomatic" knowledge gets to the root of the tension between thought and action and offers an innovative and useful way to advance an immanent, non-rational ethics. The challenge digital technologies and the information society present to the field is considered to illustrate the need to rethink administrative ethics and also the particular usefulness of Deleuze and Guattari in doing so. The dissertation concludes with a discussion of pedagogical practices and classroom examples that encourage a rhizomatic understanding of the theory and practice of public administration. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Public Administration 2013

This study is grounded in socio-environmental interventions which qualify the notion of human theatricality through an array of experimentations conducted in laboratory. Human theatricality is a device of development of the self moved by the collective assemblages produced in the different environments where the device intervenes. The question that drives the research wants to examine how human theatricality may contribute to the production of modes of existence which promote the intensification of the bodies and the care with the environment. To formulate it involved dealing with certain limitations usual in learning, once reflecting upon socio-environmental issues or growing awareness of them do not suffice: it is necessary to make decisions and to effectively produce changes. Fieldwork was conducted attempting to develop the emotional, instinctual, inventive, affective, imaginative and intuitive capacities of the human, aiming at the analysis of cognitive processes able to mobilize the body around reinventing the self and the world. The study has focused workshops carried at Templo das Águas – rural region of Pelotas/RS – and at the Hospital of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG). The activities developed had the objective of sharpening the senses, generating waves of instability and trying out other forms of dealing with rules, norms and social roles. The experimentations, particularly the ones involving the clown, point out the importance of building devices that transpass repetitive movements and expected behaviors, making the human able to produce other forms of coexistence. Human theatricality calls into question the environments that hinder human encounter, that limit tact, contact and interaction of bodies. The analysis priviledges the body and its capacity of adaptation and exchange, as well as the production of knowledge it originates. The work is a cartography of certain displacements that make the human able to transform transforming itself, while transiting in certain bordering environments. It is an intervention research that draws in Felix Guattari’s ecosophic conception, paying attention to the elaboration of life itself as a work of art. The socio-environmental interventions developed so far, grounded in the epistemological field of the Institutional Analysis, especially in Deleuze and Guattari’s studies about the rhizome, show the need of promoting initiatives that foster participation, conviviality, autonomy and autogestionary processes.

By taking the jewel as a theme and considering it within the realm of art, this thesis presents the field of art jewelry as a possibility of producing and contemplating an object in a poetic manner, devoid of its link to precious materials and to any decorative function. In this sense, the artistic jewelry production is approached from some assumptions selected from Deleuze and Guattari's theory of multiplicities and is developed accordingly. Conceptual frameworks and research procedures, borrowed from these philosophers, link theory and practical content through cartography, in order to build transverses. Through the art-jewelry perspective, the research addresses issues relating to desire, body and materiality, defined as intrinsic elements of the jewel. The research takes the Rhizome concept proposed by Deleuze and Guattari, and discusses these issues according to the apparent dimensions: think, do, perceive and propose, considering them in a constant state of flux. As a research procedure the study uses a cartography also anchored in these authors thinking, who consider the contemporary reality as a dynamic landscape in which individual and social contexts occur. The cartography procedure adopted here differs from that whose maps are records of a fixed landscape. Instead, this one is a "performance cartography", which requires following the transformations by empirical experience, assumed that one would accompany events, taking part in them. Therefore, workshops with artists and jewelry production within this environment are considered as fundamental resources for investigation, and were related to the information which was taken from interviews, lectures and library materials. From these experiences, connections were identified which enabled the construction and organization of presented contents. This content was a result of the connections between the art jewelry territory and concepts arising from the thought of Deleuze which exist in both practical and theoretical dimensions. Thus, the ideas presented are derived from a reading of experience as a chance to reflect concepts / Doutorado / Artes Visuais / Doutor em Artes

Handbook of Waste and Network of Re-useChavosh, Ardalan January 2012 (has links)
The intelligent handling of waste is a pressing issue today. Up until the 19th century it had been however an integral part of societies especially when it comes to the waste generated by construction and demolition (Bahamon and Sanjines, 2010). After industrial revolution (1750-1850) which opened the gates of mass production and mass consumption followed and supported by two major forces of capitalism and the dramatic increase in world population, the generation of waste accelerated correspondingly and in a global scale. The mass extraction of natural resources on one hand (limited amount of natural resources), and the problems caused by waste landfilling and incineration such as pollution and diseases on the other hand, made us stop this linear extraction-to-waste trend and recognize recycling as a solution. Recycling chiefly addresses a sustainable approach to reduce the negative effects of waste and at the same time involves processing used materials (waste) into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials (Eco Cloud), however through recycling not only some energy has to be consumed to make this process run but also some portion of pollution would be generated as a side effect. What is more is that up until today recycling has been neither in many cases economically profitable nor has it been possible to recycle all the amount of waste. For instance In US- as the most consuming society on the planet Earth- only 34% of the municipal solid waste can be recycled and the rest ends up in either landfills or incinerators (EPA,2010). This project is to mainly focus on the definition of a rather comprehensive network (Network of Reuse) which sits right before recycling through which as much as possible of the total amount of waste could be directly absorbed back into the society (with minor changes in some cases) in different scales, the resultants of which would be claimed not to be only less energy consumption and less pollution caused through processing waste (as in recycling) but also avoiding a considerable amount of unrecycled materials from ending up in landfills and incineration. In fact the assumed network-which is simulated by the smart grid model- could be said to be a complementary section added to the existing trend today and is on no account against recycling. Like any other network, the network of reuse is based upon strategies, tools, and policies. The rhizomic growing structure of this network-that is in contrast to the tree structure of recycling- suggests a bottom up movement in handling waste and empowering people while the proposed time-line strategy is assumed to be moving from entertainment towards a coherent business network. In fact the project itself suggests the necessity of more bottom up structures to happen in our future planning. The entire project is highly founded upon research and could be applied in a variety of actual designs and concrete cases. Therefore, in this project no specific site is being addressed directly but the actual need for adding the supposed network is explored.

Claude Simon. Úvod a interpretace / Claude Simon. Introduction and interpretationCharvát, Martin January 2013 (has links)
The present diploma thesis "Claude Simon. Introduction and interpretation" is philosophical interpretation of the novels of the French writer Claude Simon, the Nobel prize winner for literature in 1985, whose work has been in the Czech academic field neglected theme. My interpretation is based on the philosophy of G. Deleuze and according to him I understand Simon's work like a rhizome, that is like decentralized heterogenous links, multiplicities and lines which are not subjects to any structural model. In my interpretation I start with novel Le Vent (The Wind) from 1957, because it's a text in which are being manifest fundamental themes of Simon's poetic such as are event nature of the fiction world or the lost of transcendence and its transformation into immanence of life affairs. The analysis of the novel Le Vent makes possible to pass continuosly and frequently to Simon's other novels (Histoire, Les Gèorgiques, Le Palace, L'Herbe, La Route des Flandres). The aim of the diploma thesis is to reach coherent interpretation of the Simon's work.
