Kvinnors våld mot män i nära relationer, könsnormer och maskulinitet : En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares erfarenheter av möten med utsatta män / Women's domestic violence against men, gender norms and masculinity : A qualitative study about social workers' experiences of meetings with male victims

Meakin, Matthias, Poturak, Dzenana January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate social workers' experience in meeting men who are victims of domestic violence by women. Through this study we want to acquire an in-depth understanding of how social norms of gender and masculinity have an impact on domestic violence by women as well as its impact on social workers in their treatment of the abused men. The methodological starting point of this study is based on a hermeneutic qualitative approach where empirical data have been obtained through semi-structured interviews. The interviews were conducted with six social workers who all come in contact with domestic violence through their work. Results from this study show that the norms of gender and masculinity which exist in our society do affect the view of men and manhood and it affects the view on women’s violence and violence in general. It also affects how the social workers treat men who are victims of domestic abuse by women. The result of this is that men feel a lot of shame about being victims of domestic abuse hence making it hard to reach them in efforts to help. Our conclusion is that social workers need to learn more about how norms of gender and masculinity affect what the men are feeling and hence find ways to treat these men without shame interfering in that treatment.

Many are bad at involving children and young people” : A qualitative study of how social workers enable children and young people's participation

Kaur, Sukhjeet, Virtanen Janbakhsh, Laura January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how social workers work in order to enable children and young people's participation during a child protection investigation and how they experience the Convention on the Rights of the Child have changed the conditions of their work. To address the aim of the study, we have interviewed five social workers who work with children and young people at the social services office in four different municipalities in Stockholm county. To analyze the empirical data, we have used two theoretical frameworks; Shier’s Pathways to Participation and New Institutional Theory of Organizations. The results of this study indicate that social workers find it hard to define children and young people's participation, which leads to different ways of working. There are obstacles such as a parental focus and organizational conditions, such as time constraints, workload and budget cuts, which complicate social workers' work with children and young people's participation. Furthermore, we find that the Convention on the Right of the Child as a law has not had a major impact on social workers' practical work with children and young people's participation in child protection investigations.

Lagstiftningen, riktlinjerna och värderingarna : En kvalitativ studie om socialarbetares upplevelser i arbetet med missbruksärenden / Legislation, guidelines and values : A qualitative study of social workers' experiences in working with substance abuse cases

Mattsson, Martina, Ottosson, Erica January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to examine the position of social workers through their experiences of how legislation, municipal guidelines and their own values harmonize in the work with substance abuse cases. The study answers questions not only regarding how social workers feel about their values and skills harmonizing with legislation and municipal guidelines, but also how social workers handle any tensions between legislation, municipal guidelines, their own values and clients' expectations. The essay is based on six semi-structured interviews with social workers who in their daily work handle substance abuse cases and the collected material was analyzed with the help of a qualitative content analysis. The results of the study do not give us a negative picture of the social workers' experiences as previous research points out. The study shows that social workers experience different situations where their values do not comply with municipal guidelines or legislation. Examples of situations where social workers experience conflicts are a high workload, limited room for maneuver and the current coercive legislation regarding abuse. Depending on the contradiction experienced, the handling of this varies. The management of the contradictions in this study is about how the social worker in the situation chooses to act by, for example, being loyal and adapting, protesting in some form or the last alternative, making a sortie, which means leaving the organization.

: En kvalitativ studie om socialarbetarens erfarenheter av stöd vid hot och våldssituationer på arbetsplatsen / What does the support look like for social workers in situations of threats and violence? : A qualitative study on social workers experiences of support in situations of threat and violence in the workplace

Ranégie, Julia, Karhula, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the support that social workers in the social services receive in situations involving threats and violence at the workplace in relation to the support that social workers feel they need. It is important to investigate this topic as the knowledge gained can contribute to discussions about whether social workers receive adequate support in work environments where threats and violence are present. The study is based on seven qualitative, semistructured interviews with social workers in Sweden's social services. A thematic analysis has been conducted to process the collected empirical data. The data has also been analyzed based on previous research and two different theories, coping and human relations. The study shows that social workers have been exposed to threats and violence at some point in their careers, where subtle threats occur more frequently than other forms of violence and threats. All participants describe that they currently have good support when incidents of threats and violence occur in the workplace, but that there is room for improvement in some areas of support. The support that they want to see more of in situations involving threats and violence includes: preventive routines, standing items on threats and violence at workplace meetings, guidance, managers having insight into cases and giving feedback, better onboardings to the work regarding threats and violence in the workplace, and more dialogues on the subject since threats and violence are often normalized in social work. Social workers share the desire for politicians to take responsibility for the issue of threats and violence against social workers.

… alltså det blöder” : En kvalitativ intervjustudie som undersöker socialsekreterares möjligheter och hinder för att arbeta för barnets bästa / “Unfortunately, it is one of the things that are the social services' major challenges. ... I mean, it's bleeding”

Ekström, Amanda, Karlsson, Alexandra January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis has been to investigate the factors that are influencing govern social workers' work with children's rights and participation and the importance of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the work of social workers and whether any changes has occurred since the Convention on the Rights of the Child was incorporated into law. The study was based on five qualitative semi-structured interviews, three of which were conducted with social workers and two with current assistant unit managers in a family unit. The empirical data was analysed using thematic analysis, and the analysis was guided by the theoretical perspectives of systems theory and street level bureaucracy, as well as the theoretical concepts of child perspective and children's perspective. The study has shown that the Convention on the Rights of the Child has always played a natural part in the social workers' working methods, both practically and theoretically. However, the study also reveals that the major changes that have occurred since the Convention on the Rights of the Child became law are more related to the work of other actors rather than the social workers encountered in this study.  The overall conclusions of the study can be summarized in the following points; Social systems determine the social worker's ability to perform their work, Political priorities affect the social worker's conditions to a great extent, The Convention on the Rights of the Child has provided tools for other actors to adopt a child rights perspective, The organizational conditions in each unit play a major role. In conclusion, the results of our study show that there are many factors other than just laws that affect the conditions for the social worker to be able to perform their work adequately, therefore there are currently more obstacles than opportunities for a social worker to work for the rights and best interests of the child.

Social workers' work with risk and protectivefactors : A study on how the work is carried out, perceivedand experienced by social workers at the youth unitin Malmö.

Krasniqi, Blerina, Spagnoli Adenhav, Maximilian January 2023 (has links)
This essay examines the social worker's perception of their own work with risk and protective factors around youths in risk zones of using narcotics. Furthermore, this essay investigates the social worker's perceptions regarding how both they themself and other coworkes carry out the work with protective and risk factors among youths in risk zones of using narcotics. It is common for a young person to have several risk factors at the same time, which increases the risk of norm-breaking behaviour. Social services work to provide support and meet the needs of adolescents in order to promote positive development and reduce the risks that the risk factors entail. Using semi-structured interviews, we have interviewed six social workers at the youth unit in Malmö to answer the following questions (1) How do social workers describe their work with identifying and managing risk and protective factors in investigations with youths?(2) What perceptions and opinions emerge from social workers when they reflect on the work with risk and protective factors in investigations of youths? (3) What perceptions and opinions emerge from social workers when they reflect on the work with risk and protective factors in investigations of youths in risk zones of using narcotics? When examining the first question, there were recurring statements that described the experience of a common understanding and consensus regarding everything related to risk and protective factors. Despite this common understanding, the results showed that the experience of whether the work with assessment and/or analysis is done collectively or individually seems to depend on the circumstances of the case. In the next question, there were varying perceptions about the work, but many tended to believe that there is a common consensus of the perceptions. The last question showed that the perceptions and opinions were affected depending on the circumstances of the case, the young person’s overall situation and factors such as the type if substance, the time frame if the narcotic use and what other prominent risk factors exist.
