Risk assessments are an important element in preventing recidivism for intimate partner violence. This study aimed to investigate the inter-rater reliability of social workers' risk assessments for partner violence regarding the identification of risk, vulnerability and protective factors as well as case prioritization. The study was conducted by giving six social workers, both individually and jointly, the opportunity to assess risk-, vulnerability- and protective factors as well as prioritization of safety measures for six fictitious cases. The results showed that inter-rater reliability varied when comparing individual assessors depending on the factor that was to be identified and the priority to be attributed to the case. The same was true of the joint assessments. Risk factors were shown to have the highest inter-rater reliability and vulnerability factors to have the lowest inter-rater reliability averaged across all cases. The same was true when comparing joint assessments. Case prioritization showed varying inter-rater reliability with moderate agreement between individual assessors and somewhat lower agreement compared to a joint assessment, averaged across all cases. Further research is recommended in order to assist in the development and use of manuals in assessments of partner violence and in order to understand the need for support to its users.

Chamoun, Maria, Janet, Diana January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of the current study is to examine the experiences of social workers who have worked with violence in close relationships during the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, the study aims to investigate how social workers felt that their approach and discretion were affected during the pandemic's restrictions. The previous research as well as the theoretical concepts Discrection and Coping Strategy have formed the study's theoretical basis which has been used to analyze the study's results through a thematic analysis. The study has a qualitative approach with five semi-structured interviews whose respondents work on various supportorganizations that work with violence in close relationships. The results of the study showed that the social worker's experiences clarified that the organizations have followed the restrictions and designed new approaches to be able to reach victims of violence who need support and help. The social workers' personal competence and discretion were decisive factors as to whether the social workers' approach was shaped during the pandemic. The results also showed that it varied in the experiences around the pandemic's impact. The organizations had to adapt to the digitalization of social work, which in turn resulted in varying challenges in social work.

How can we know if we cannot ask : A quantitative study about the use of FREDA- risk assessment and Augmentative Alternative Communication among Swedish LSS administrators.Martinez Valdes, Irelis, Röhr, Sofia January 2022 (has links)
Prior studies have shown that individuals with disabilities, especially those with communication disabilities, are at higher risk for being exposed to domestic violence. The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare recommend the municipal social services to use Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) as a means to facilitate communication with such individuals. Further, it is recommended that the social services use a standardized instrument called FREDA-risk assessment to ask clients about domestic violence. However, little is known about the use of those instruments among LSS administrators who handle service and support for individuals with disabilities, who may also have communication disabilities. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of FREDA- risk assessment and AAC among LSS administrators, and to explore whether the use of AAC affects the use of FREDA-risk assessment. In order to do so, a digital survey was conducted, in which 366 respondents spread over 144 municipalities participated. The results show that both instruments are not use at their full potential and that the use of AAC could facilitate the use of FREDA- risk assessment. Implications for social work practice and further research are discussed.

Maktkampen om den dominerande diskursen kring barn med sexuella beteendeproblem : En kvalitativ diskursanalys av en komplex företeelse / The power struggle for the dominant the discourse around children with sexual behavior problemsEkström, Julia, Larsdottir, Birka January 2021 (has links)
Children’s sexuality has historically been, and still is, a taboo subject. Children with sexual behavioral problems is a fenomen difficult to define because it varies depending on time, situation, and culture, which can make it difficult for social workers to assess. This essay has studied the construction of children with sexual behavior problems in interviews with social workers’ based on Bacchi's (2009) discourse analytical method and theory to achieve the purpose of the study. The essay has led to an understanding of how the construction of children with sexual behavior problems affect the social work and these children. The empirical material consisted of semi-structured interviews with ten social workers who work with children with sexual behavior problems. The interviews resulted in both equivalent and conflicting discourses in the field of social work. The equivalent discourses construct children with sexual behavior problems as a problem that needs to be remedied. The results showed that there is a battle of power between different discourses to achieve the dominant discourse that can win people's understanding of how children with sexual behavior problems should be understood and treated, above all between private actors.

Stressens olika sidor : en kvalitativ intervjustudie om arbetsrelaterad stress bland biståndshandläggare inom äldreomsorgen / Different sides of stress : a qualitative interview study on work-related stress among social service workers within elderly careRådlund, Emmy January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine and increase the knowledge about work related stress among social service workers within elderly care. Through qualitative interviewes with six employees, a number of questions have been answered. These are about the causes of stress, how the stress affects the employees health and quality of work, how stress is managed and which factors they believe can reduce stress. The material has been analyzed on the basis of earlier research linked to stress among social workers together with two theoretical tools: the demand-control model and the coping theory. Results show that causes of stress are factors such as lack of control in work cases and a lack of support from the management. The employees health is affected by stress in various ways, both mentally, physically and cognitively. Furthermore, the quality of work is affected by details being more easily missed. The respondents’ stress management is characterized by both positive and negative strategies. It can be about increasing the work structure, lowering personal demands, working overtime and not seeking support. The respondents’ own ideas about stress reducing factors turned out to be about support within the work place and to work in a resourceful organisation. Results also show that respondents may experience stress as something positive when it is combined with a high level of control.

To be both loved and exposed : A qualitative study of the tension between social workers' guidelines and practice with children and young people who are exposed to honour-related violence and oppressionJanbert Winbladh, Ebba, Ovesson, Jannike January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the guidelines, methods and strategies of social workers supporting children and young people who live with honour-related problems – in order to deepen the knowledge of tensions between the guidelines of social work and its practices. The result of the study has emerged from qualitative interviews with six social workers working with children and young people and three local authority documents containing guidelines and routines. The social workers were asked questions about their experiences of guidelines and routines and their current work situation. To analyse and understand the results a thematic method was used along with theories on discretion. The result shows that social workers use different assessment manuals in order to assess that a child/young person is exposed to honour-related problems, but their experience is that the manuals are not complete and adapted to children and young people who live with honour-related problems. Therefore, many social workers have a discretion, where they can take available methods and adapt them to the honour-related cases. The social workers have several different voluntary and family-oriented interventions to offer, but in honour-related cases the interventions are not optimal. The social workers experience difficulties with working with the families of children and young people with honour-related problems because they are not receptive to change, which was the first tension that could be identified. The overall experience of the interviewed social workers regarding honour-related cases shows that their work is complex in relation to laws, guidelines and methods. Thereby another tension was discovered in the result and analysis between forced interventions relating to the laws and guidelines and principles of the child's best interests. The social worker experiences are that it is difficult to motivate forced interventions as it does not always improve the situation of the child.
