A reflective account : exploring the nature of web-based instructional design by a practicing teacherKletke, Raymond 11 1900 (has links)
Technology has become a fundamental yet dynamic component of modern society, affecting almost every structure within it. However, education has been slow to change relative to the acceptance and use of technology in teaching and learning contexts. This research seeks to begin to bridge this technological chasm by examining what considerations a teacher instructional designer needs to be mindful of when designing a substantial Web-based learning resource. The researcher employs a qualitative methodology through the compilation of field notes and narratives describing the experiences and observations of a classroom teacher employing the ADDIE instructional design model to develop a Web-based learning resource for two high-school level Marketing courses. The researcher has maintained a unique triad of professional roles throughout this project, including teacher, instructional designer, and researcher. The findings of this research emphasize the interrelationships between the three key conceptual areas: reflective practice, instructional design, and Web design.

Rätt information vid rätt tillfälle The right information at the right time : En studie av individanpassning av informationsåtkomst på webbplatser An essay on personalization of information access on websitesSjöström, Josefin, Moreira, Juliana January 2011 (has links)
The subject of this essay is active personalization of information access. Its main goals are to make it easier for developers to create new, customized solutions for the web. The essay tries to find an answer to the question if personalization of information-access makes it easier for the user to find the information they need. The researchers developed a personalized-access prototype of the Swedish Tax Agency’s website and, through observations compared it with the original. The researchers applied the think-aloud-method in five observations documented as video recordings and observation schedules. In addition, a follow-up with a questionnaire was made after each observation in order to collect additional qualitative data. The observations showed that although the respondents found the information quickly at the Swedish Tax Agency’s website, they experienced the prototype as easier to use. The conclusion is that active personalization can make it easier for the users to find the right information, and that a prerequisite for creating an active personalization is that it takes better into account the user's needs by means of contextualization, categorization and filtering.

Larmbolagets webbplats : En studie om skapandet av en tillgänglig och användbar webbplats / Larmbolaget’s Website : A Study on the Creation of an Accessible and Usable WebsiteLundberg, Niklas, Wigren, Marcus January 2012 (has links)
This paper accounts for the work with a website for a company whose real name will not be disclosed in the text of this paper. Instead, they have been assigned the fictitious name Larmbolaget, which can be translated as ‘The Alarm Company’. During our work with Larmbolaget’s website, we consulted a selection of accessibility guidelines from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, developed by a working group within the World Wide Web Consortium, as well as a number of design principles and heuristics outlined in this paper. We also conducted several usability tests on users from our intended target group. All the measures taken were an effort to ensure that Larmbolaget’s website be as accessible and usable as possible. Our conclusion is that the resulting website does comply with the accessibility guidelines and design principles described in this paper, and thus we consider it to be accessible and usable to a wide range of users, including those with disabilities.

Internet and social media have opened up new possibilities for companies and organisations tocommunicate their brand. It only takes a few seconds to communicate the message of a website to theuser. This indicates the importance of having the intended message of the website communicated clearlyin order to give the user a correct impression of the company or the organisation. When it comes to theconcept design of a website, it’s important that all different parts is presented uniformly. This reportdescribes the process and the end product of a concept design for a food event. The concept designincludes interaction design, a graphic identity and digital strategies in a website that all togheter creates astartingpoint for the branding of the event. In the creation of the logotyp which is as part of the graphicidentity it was important to anticipate the needs of the users and the other stakeholders. An interviewstudy was conducted with a focus group of the purpose to investigate users' feelings and reactions basedon the first impressions of three different logo proposals. The investigation was fruitful and increased ourunderstanding about what the participants thought about the different logotypes and colour combinations.Along with a few corrections we reach a brand identity that could be effective in communicating themessage of the event. During the design process, we had regular weekly meetings with the client who alsoapproved the final logo, graphic identity as well as the digital strategies and functions of the website. Theresult shows that a careful preparatory phase is a necessity to establish the client's goals and vision as wellas our own early in the process. This helped us to keep the design work on a steady path through thewhole process as well as creating a unified concept design for the event.

Mätverktyg och användartester inom webbdesign : Hur mätningar av ögonrörelser och webbaserade värmekartor kan användas i användartester / Measuring tools and usability testing in web design : How measurements of eye movements and user click heatmaps can be used in usability testingBusby, Freja, Rydberg, Alva January 2014 (has links)
This study has researched how user click heatmaps and eye tracking can be utilized in usability testing. We have used the tools SessionCam and Tobii. We designed a website for a small clothing store and conducted usability tests, in order to evaluate the users clicks and eye movements in relation to design choices on the website. The aim of this study was to research how these tools can be integrated in usability testing and how results from the tests can be used to improve usability. We were able to use the recordings of clicks and eye movements and make design changes based on the findings. Some of the findings were that the users look more at the top of the page than at the bottom. They also look more at icons and images rather than longer text blocks. From the tracking of user clicks we found that the users primarily clicked on links in order to navigate the page but also that they sometimes clicked on texts when they were reading.

Beyond Skin Deep: Exploring the contribution of communication design within interaction design projectsDunbar, Michael James, miek@collabo.net January 2009 (has links)
This research has explored potential ways for understanding the contribution communication design makes within the field of interaction design; specifically projects that have involved the design of web-based interactive systems. As a practice-based design investigation, this research has been conducted through a series of interaction design projects within the context of a Collaborative Research Centre, and have often included working with industry partners. I will refer to these as projects throughout this exegesis. In this exegesis, I will argue that communication design can make a valuable contribution to interaction design projects, and that this contribution can be facilitated by understanding interactive systems in terms of the role that they play in our everyday experience of the world. This exegesis presents the central argument of the research and how the research questions were investigated. It presents the projects through which the research has been conducted, and through discussion, presents the discoveries and knowledge gained through this research. The total submission for this research consists of the exegesis, exhibition, and oral presenation. Throughout each mode of delivery I will share how the research questions were investigated.

Prototyping Tools for the Early Stages of Web DesignAnggreeni, Irene January 2006 (has links)
There is a gap between low-fidelity prototyping using paper and high-fidelity prototyping using computers in web design. Both serve well in different stages of web design, but are not well integrated. Prior studies have examined the practice of web designers. The studies resulted in a number of alternative prototyping tools, which focus on informal representation and try to prolong sketching in the design process. The thesis proposes a design of a prototyping tool that makes use of existing paper sketches. In paper prototyping, a human who acts as the “computer” makes the sketches interactive. In the prototyping tool put forward in the thesis, the interactivity of the sketches is instead created on the computer. The novel prototyping tool needs to support the interactions and behaviours used in web design, and it must be easy to use so that the web designers do not have to invest too much time learning it. The prototype of the tool is a sketch-and-scan interface, thus allowing the use of paper the way it is. The functionality supports both documentation and computer interactivity. Usability tests and expert reviews were conducted, involving students, lecturers and researchers in human-computer interaction. The results elaborate previous research on prototyping practice, and a designers’ wish list was formulated. A prototyping tool is expected to support communication between users, designers and developers; as well as to reduce a designer’s need to change his work practice when using the tool.
