: En analys av CSS ramverk / Why is there a hamburger in the right hand corner?

Carlsson, Emil, Andersson Waara, Daniela January 2017 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this report is to find out which frameworks and methods are most popular and most widely used, as well as web developers' views on the hamburgermenu. Method – In order to answer the questions in our report we used the methods quantitative statistical processing, quantitative analysis of data collected via survey and qualitative interviews with web developers. The study was conducted to find out which frameworks and methods are most popular and used most, as well as how web developers look at the hamburgermenu. This was done by analyzing the popularity and usage of different frameworks as well as interviewing web developers who work with it daily. Findings – The results of the report are based on the data collected through the processing of the statistics, the analysis of the survey, and the interviews performed. The result shows which frameworks are most popular and those that are most used. The following list shows the ranking: Most popular: Bootstrap Semantic UI Materialize Material Design Lite Foundation Most used: Bootstrap Foundation Materialize Material Design Lite Semantic UI The results of the interviews showed that most of the web developers interviewed used a framework when they created a website, either an existing or one of their own. It was also a practice to use the same framework in the company, although the way it was used was different from developer to developer. All developers had a mobile-first thought in mind, although it was not always a priority. It was also found in the study that everyone had a basic idea behind the choice of framework, but only one who had performed a study on which one would suit them best. All web developers interviewed thought that the hamburger menu was boring and bad from a user experience perspective. But everyone also agreed that because it is so widely used and has been for a couple of years, users have learned what it means and therefore fulfills its purpose. Implications – The use of the results is primarily linked to individuals or companies that work with web development, but can also be used by private individuals. For the report's primary target group, the results will give an increased understanding of the most used framework and an increased understanding of why these are used. Private individuals can use the result in the same way. Limitations – The limitations we receive in this study are that we cannot make any conclusions about companies and web developers in other parts of the country using the same framework or methods as the local ones we interviewed. Nor can we make any conclusions about why Bootstrap is the most popular and most widely used framework. We can only speculate why with the empirical we gathered through the interviews. A major limitation is also the lack of interviews when we only got answers from 6 of the 10 companies we contacted, of whom 4 would like to participate in the interview. More general conclusions could have been drawn if more companies had been interviewed. Nyckelord – Ramverk, Webbutveckling, Responsiv webbdesign, Interaktionsdesign, Användarupplevelse, Bootstrap, Foundation, Materialize, Material Design Lite, Semantic UI

Metodika pro lokalizaci webových stránek z pohledu webdesignu / Methodology for website localization from the perspective of webdesign

Čermák, Radim January 2017 (has links)
Internet and websites are today one of the most important communication channels of almost all companies. They offer a simple, fast and effective way of communication, which is also available worldwide in a few seconds. With the globalization of market, more and more companies try to expand their business beyond the territory of the home state. In the current time of start-ups is the Internet also often a medium that allows formation of new spheres of business for which the website is absolutely essential channel. This type of business is internet based and has very often international ambitions from the very beginning. Given that each country (or region) can be seen as distinctive culture, it is advisable to locate websites for the needs of the foreign country. This is exactly the theme of this thesis. The concrete objective of this thesis is to offer a methodology for website localization in terms of webdesign. The basic building block is the delimitation of a multidisciplinary theoretical framework that examines the concept of culture and extensive literature review allowing current insight into the linking of website and culture, i.e. cultural website localization. Suitable method for gripping such a complex concept as a culture emerge from a theoretical framework as well. As the most appropriate method were determined Hofstedes cultural dimensions, which are then used for the analysis of cultural determination of web elements. Data collection for the purpose of analysis of web elements cultural determination is performed using a content analysis of websites from nine different countries. The results of the analysis are compared and synthesized with the findings stemming from a literature review. The final artifact of this thesis, a methodology for website localization from the perspective of web design, is based on this ground. Validation of the proposed methodology is done on the basis of assessment of the methodology for a domain of web design. This assessment is based on interviews with experts from different countries as well as presentation of concrete example of methodology use within a midsize website.

Responsive design in Windows 8 applications

Klockare, Sofi January 2013 (has links)
Responsive design is a common expression at the web today. This thesis was about learning about responsive web design in order to apply it to Windows 8 applications created in C# and XAML. The purpose of this thesis was to learn if responsive design can be used in such applications. This was done by first learning about responsive design through a literature study about responsive web design and then specifying responsive application design. How responsive design can be used in applications was found through research and creation of an example application. No literature was found about responsive design for Windows 8 applications in C# and XAML and therefore most of the results came from own ideas and partly solutions found on different forums. The thesis was performed at Infor in Kista. The example application was a social application which was connected to a social web service developed by Infor. Responsive web design is a technique used for making webpages adapt to the size and resolution of the viewport. This is done by creating a structured, fluid layout by using a flexible grid and flexible images. Media queries are used to set up different states for presenting the page in different ways for different sizes and resolutions of the viewport. In the different states parts of the content can for example be hidden or styled. The number of columns of information can also be set to adapt to make the page easier to view. Responsive design for applications should make the layout of the application adapt to fit the application window of the device used depending on its resolution. One way to specify a responsive design for Windows 8 applications could be to create only one application which could be used on all different Windows 8 platforms, such as phones, tablets and computers. It is probably not possible today to create this one application for different Windows 8 platforms. Another way of specifying responsive design for application is to create a responsive user interface which could be shared and used in the different Windows 8 applications. The latter was the chosen definition for this thesis. The scope of this thesis was limited to only research for responsive design in Windows Store apps and Windows Phone 8 applications. Windows Phone 8 applications are applications used on smartphones with Windows Phone 8 as operating system while Windows Store applications are used on computers with Windows 8 as operating system. Other Windows 8 devices were not included in this thesis. The final conclusion of this thesis was that although it is complicated to use responsive application design it can be used for most of the user interface. A responsive user interface for the applications can be created separately, but some parts of the application pages cannot be shared between the different platforms. This results in a mostly responsive sharable user interface.

A study of how a web application for advertising consulting jobs to students can be implemented to be perceived as useful

Åström, Adam, Öberg, Albin, Elkjaer, Alice, Olsson, Fredrik, Bengtsson Malmborg, Hannes, Jacobson, Madeleine, Schwartz-Blicke, Oscar, Storsved, Viktor January 2021 (has links)
Studentconsulting makes it possible for students to use their knowledge in business cases. In addition to this it also reduces the cost for enterprises when hiring consultants. As job hunting via the internet becomes more common there is a need for a web application that connects company projects with students who are interested in consulting. One of the most prominent aspects for a web application to be competitive is usability. The intention with this study is to examine How can a webapplication for consulting jobs between enterprises and students be implemented to be perceived as useful by students? To answer this question a web application for intermediation of consulting jobs between enterprises and students has been developed. The web application is developed on a theoretical basis where the different dimensions of the term usability has been analysed. These dimensions are efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction. In addition to this the importance of specifying users and the aesthetic aspects effects on usability has been discussed. To evaluate if the web aplication is perceived as useful it is tested on three groups of people on three different occasions to examine their perception of the web application. The tests are based on the thinking aloud method together with the questionnaires System Usability Scale (SUS) and Visual Aesthetics of Websites Inventory Short (VisAWI-S). The SUS and VisAWI-S questionnaires indicated that the web application had a high level of usability throughout the development process. This was achieved through implementing a design based on simplicity and colorfulness as well as the principles Visibility of system status, Recognition rather than recall, Flexibility and efficiency of use and Aesthetic and minimalist design. By analysing the results from the thinking aloud tests a reduction in negative comments between test 1 and 3 could be identified. From the test results, the conclusion is that through responses related to completed actions, implementation of markers, and contrasting colors a web application for consulting jobs between enterprises and students can be implemented to be perceived as useful by students.
