Understanding tourists in Uganda: exploring motivation and characteristics of non-resident visitors to Uganda

Halowaty, Meagan 01 April 2013 (has links)
Uganda’s tourism industry is a major source of foreign exchange income, creating much-needed employment and development opportunities. This study provided an overview of motivations and characteristics of non-resident visitors to Uganda. This exploratory research was conducted in Uganda during July and August 2011. Information obtained includes the popular activities and places visited, visitor expenditures, demographic information, motivation for visiting Uganda, and motivation for traveling and volunteering in general. This study concluded that the majority of non-resident visitors leaving Uganda were volunteers, with a majority being religious volunteers who did not represent a sustainable tourism market within Uganda. Data provided in this study can allow tourism stakeholders to draw conclusions on what is needed in Uganda to help the tourism sector to continue growing more sustainably and to remain competitive amongst other East African tourist destinations.

Living on Durban's fringe : a study of the leisure styles of shack and peri-urban youth.

Richards, Robin Francis. January 1994 (has links)
The study explored the leisure styles of peri-urban youth living on the fringe of the city of Durban. Little is known about the leisure patterns of this marginalised segment of the urban population and an aim of this study was to begin to develop a knowledge-base using a holistic or multi-theme approach. Data was collected on the leisure activities, attitudes and the leisure setting of shack youth. Such information would be helpful in understanding the role which leisure plays and could play in the social development of shack youth. The research methodology, comprising qualitative interviewing in phase one (to gather contextual data) and a survey in phase two (to explore leisure patterns quantitatively), complemented the holistic focus by examining actors' leisure experiences and the wider leisure context. To interpret the research findings, socio-psychological models of leisure explained respondents' styles of leisure at the interpersonal level whilst at the macro-spatial level, findings were contextualised in an apartheid city 'framework to show the way the historical context has shaped present leisure patterns. In the context of shack life, leisure was found to be a strategy for survival and an alternative route to the satisfaction of higher order needs. Despite environmental constraints, respondents identified socio-spatial opportunities for leisure activities which they perceived to be freely chosen and enjoyable. The study concluded that leisure is a valuable tool which social policy makers and planners could use to develop the latent potential of young shack dwellers. / Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Natal, Durban, 1994.

From the 18:th hole and home : Work-life balance for golf professionals in Sweden

Thunberg, Daniel, Reumert, Poul January 1900 (has links)

Business Plan of Leisure Coffee Shop

Lee, Anna Unknown Date (has links)
台灣休閒咖啡館商業計畫書 / In Taiwan, have a cup of coffee have become part of the life of people who lives in the city. We cannot only buy the coffee in coffee shop like Starbucks, Barista, or Mr. Brown but also in convenient stores like 7-11 and Family Mart. These places provide different kinds and levels of coffee. This causes a fierce competition in coffee shop market. But this also indicates that the needs of coffee keep growing. Although lots of places provide coffee, only few of them provide quality coffee in a special and tasteful space. Most coffee shops are for people to sit down and talk and consumers don’t care if the coffee is good or not as long as it’s cheap. Actually from a cup of coffee, there are lots of things to talk about. From the history of drinking coffee, places that coffee bean grows, and people who live in those places. It will be fantastic if people know this information when having coffee. Form a cup of coffee, we know how to care about the world, and we don’t have to learn these things in a classroom but in a warm, elegant coffee shop. Le Moulin de la Galette will be a shop that not only provides good coffee, but also knowledge of coffee and the way to develop the culture of coffee. It will also be a place that the customer will gain a series of delightful experiences instead of just some products that you can have anywhere.

Why did they do it? : A survey of voluntary workers who built Levene Arena?

Sälleberg, Johan January 2014 (has links)
De bakomliggande motivationsfaktorerna var hela tiden att göra något för en stark och levande bygd samt att göra något för barnen / Voluntary work was a contributing factor to how Levene society in Vara municipality could build a sport and event hall. This study aims to explain why residents of Levene lined up and spend a lot of their spare time with building the sport and event hall. The underlying motivational factors were the opportunity to do something for the children and to keep the community vibrant and attractive

Löfgren, Kent January 2002 (has links)
This study analyses differences between student groups at Umeå University, Sweden, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. It analyses student study situations, students’ experience of the university environment, students’ exercise and sports activities, and connections between study and leisure-time activities. The study owes much to Bourdieu’s Homo Academicus (English edition 1988), and his theories of cultural reproduction, social structures and habitus, and focuses on students from the subject areas teacher education, natural sciences, humanities and sports. Attention is also given to family backgrounds and female/male variance. The data were collected in 1994-1995, with the aid of 782 questionnaires and 64 interviews. The results show differences between students at the two universities in terms of study time, parents’ education and leisure activities and part-time jobs. Students in the studied groups, differ in many respects. The groups have distinct characteristics in terms of, for example, age and sex ratios. The students’ family backgrounds are also divergent, depending on which discipline the student belongs to. These variations between disciplines are found at both universities. Physical activities (action sports) are popular activities, at both universities. Women and men exercise in different ways, although they might have a similar social situation. The scientific methodology of Bourdieu is also discussed in the study. In sum, the results indicate that there are sub-fields within the university. Individuals with different conditions and habitus, to use Bourdieu’s terminology, inhabit these sub-fields.
