[en] THE USE OF CELEBRITIES AND MULTIPLO ENDORSEMENT IN THE PROPAGANDA / [pt] A UTILIZAÇÃO DE CELEBRIDADES E O MÚLTIPLO ENDOSSO NA PROPAGANDA

MARIANA ABREU CARNEIRO 05 February 2002 (has links)
[en] This work looks for to identify the attitude of the public front to the use of Celebrities in the propaganda and to the endorsement of multiple products for the same person. [en] ADVERTISING CONSUMPTION: YOUTH RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE CONTEMPORARY MEDIA WORLD / [pt] CONSUMO DE PROPAGANDA: A RELAÇÃO DOS JOVENS COM O UNIVERSO CONTEMPORÂNEO DAS MÍDIAS

JOAO RICARDO NOBRE MATTA 29 October 2013 (has links)
[en] This paper aims to explore the manner in which young Brazilians relate to and are impacted by advertising, taking into account the contemporary scenario of media abundance and interconnection and the proliferation of information. Its intention was to investigate this segment s perception regarding the different kinds of advertising and strategies, for example, merchandising actions, transmedia storytelling and multi-media advertising, among others. The approach used was an exploratory qualitative study, interviewing a group of 15 young college students on the proposed theme. The results indicated the need subjects in the study have to express an allegedly critical discourse, demonstrating a representative degree of discomfort with the fact of being able to be, in a way, manipulated by all kinds of advertising actions. In this sense, it was perceived that even in situations in which the youths agreed with the influence of the advertising, the power of TV or the strength of consumption influencing their lives, they prefer to express a certain level of distance from this reality, in some ways placing themselves as being immune to these processes. The results of this paper also encompass relevant aspects of themes like the stories inserted in advertising, media as an object of consumption, advertising in the digital world and the evolution and omnipresence of media.

[en] BACK IN THE PRESIDENCY: GETULIO VARGAS´S STRATEGY OF PROPAGANDA IN THE 1950 ELECTIONS / [pt] GETÚLIO VARGAS VOLTA AO CATETE: A ESTRATÉGIA DE PROPAGANDA VARGUISTA NAS ELEIÇÕES DE 1950

DEBORA KFURI REGAL 26 October 2007 (has links)
[en] This research is about Getulio Vargas´ presidential elections campaign, in 1950. Vargas, who had reached presidency twice through coups and once through indirect elections, became once again president in 1950, due to an intelligent and modern campaign. During a couple of months, his entourage visited more than 50 cities and the Federal District, establishing a channel for direct communication between the candidate and the electors. In a series of speeches, Vargas presented his national political project, merged with local affairs, detaching the participation of each unit in the growth of the whole federation. The success in the presidential elections of 1950 was a consequence of a careful work of image construction, since Vargas´ first mandate. Some authors argue that political marketing was not used in Brazil until 1954, but the claim of this work is that Vargas made use of systematic procedures of electoral propaganda and communication as early as his 1950´s campaign. Focusedtarget actions and intelligent use of midia were part of Vargas´ campaign and are also part of what we today know as political marketing.

[en] TWO ESSAYS IN POLITICAL ECONOMICS / [pt] DOIS ENSAIOS SOBRE ECONOMIA POLÍTICA

BERNARDO SANTOS DA SILVEIRA 21 September 2007 (has links)
[en] This thesis consists on two independent parts. The first one is an empirical evaluation of political budget cycles in Brazil. The research question is twofold. We ask the factual question of whether municipal level receipts and expenditures vary with the proximity of elections for mayor. Then, we investigate the effects of political competitiveness and govern transparency on the size of the budget cycles. Our results suggest the existence of strong budgetary cycles in the Brazilian municipalities, though it is difficult to identify a causal relationship between such cycles and the electoral calendar. Also, according to our findings, higher political competitiveness and lower govern transparency generate incentives for the incumbent mayors to invest more in the last year of their terms. In the second part of the thesis, we estimate the impact of political advertising on candidate performance in Brazilian mayoral and gubernatorial elections. Previous studies have established a minimal effects conventional wisdom that campaign spending and advertising have little impact on elections outcome. However, such studies suffer from omitted variable bias and reverse causality. We explore a quasi-natural experiment produced by Brazilian electoral legislation, and show that TV and radio advertising have a strong effect on candidates´ electoral performance.

[en] SEX IN ADVERTISING: SEXUAL STANDARDNULLS IMAGES OF BRAZILIAN CULTURE / [pt] SEXO NA PROPAGANDA DA TV : IMAGENS DOS PADRÕES SEXUAIS DA CULTURA BRASILEIRA

LIANY SILVA DOS SANTOS 23 September 2003 (has links)
[en] Despite the obvious goal of attracting consumers and stimulating the sale of products and services, the sexual appeal present in mass communication, through its repertoire of images and symbolic representations, also creates and/or reflects the collective imagery that circulates in contemporary society regarding sex and pleasure. In this dissertation we analyze sexuality aspects as they appear in television advertising, using as sample prime-time commercials broadcasted in Rede Globo, all of which were taped in video directly from the TV during twelve consecutive months - from July 2001 to June 2002. Firstly, we contextualized the attitudes regarding sexuality searching for evidence of the interdependence between its manifestations and the social, economical and cultural conditions present in Brazilian society. Next, taking recent theories in Social Psychology as a starting point, we related the role of the sexual appeal as a persuasion strategy with the media`s function in the socialization process. Among our conclusions, we observed that television advertising maintains itself in a traditional cultural model, with stereotypical patterns regarding physical appearance, age, race, sex and the relationship between genders, indicating - and also in a certain way imposing - the sexual standards and the ideology that envelop us all.

[pt] NOME DE PRODUTO, MARCA DE PESSOA: CONSUMO, PUBLICIDADE E CLASSIFICAÇÃO / [en] PRODUCT S NAME, PERSON S BRAND: CONSUMPTION, ADVERTISING AND CLASSIFICATION

JULIANA LOURENCO DA SILVA LOPES 01 February 2006 (has links)
[en] A survey based on the Social Security Administration data called the attention for a curious phenomenon: children whose names are product s brands well-known in the market. The result shows that, in the American society, it already has certain statistic relevance the fact that babies are being named after brands such as: Armani, Porsche, L Oreal or Pepsi. A similar research, conducted for this dissertation, was based on the yellow pages and civil register offices from all over the country, which allowed us to establish the occurrence of this phenomenon also in Brazil. The purpose of this work is to investigate the event, which can be considered a limit case of the insertion of consumption elements as a form of classification. Through interviews with people whose inspiration for nomination were products, it was possible to collect stories that allowed us to deepen determined aspects of this new social logic, in which brands can become names of human beings. It was sought to examine this radical form of identification between products and people, the classificatory system that derivates from it and the role that the advertising plays in this process.

[en] BREAK FOR THE COMMERCIALS: AN ANALYSIS OF ADVERTISEMENTS IN CHILDREN S TV CHANNELS / [pt] PAUSA PARA OS COMERCIAIS: UMA ANÁLISE DAS PROPAGANDAS VEICULADAS EM CANAIS INFANTIS

GABRIELLA BERMAN 15 June 2018 (has links)
[en] The consumer society turns the kids into consumers and customers more and more earlier, and integrate themselves to that new role is now part of their socialization process. Regarding that, brands understood the necessity to dialogue with this public that beyond a primary consumer is also a potential future market and a strong influencer on the family s purchase decisions. In the current media consumption scenario, despite the children s multiconectivity, the paid television constitutes a direct communication between brand and the consuming child, fact based on the increasing growth in publicity investment and hours dedicated to the medium by the infant televiewer. In this context, the present work proposal is to analyse the content of the advertisements directed to the infant public, vehiculated on the five infant channels with more subscribers in Brazil: Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, Gloob and Nickelodeon. The data collection was made in July 2017, during the school holidays, in the infant prime time, totalizing 835 hours of recording and aproximately 153 hours of commercials. The data was qualitatevely analysed through content analysis techniques. Looking for the comprehension of the representation of children on the consumption culture reflected on the advertisement, it was identified and discussed themes such as: collecting, children independency and autonomy, intergerational exchange and social roles related to gender.

[en] STATISTICAL MODELS IN ADVERTISING MARKET RESEARCH / [pt] MODELOS ESTATÍSTICOS NA PESQUISA DA PROPAGANDA

ANTONIO BERNARDO FERREIRA NEVES 25 September 2006 (has links)
[en] The advertising is no doubt one of the most important weapons of Marketing. However, to measure its short-term efficiency as the result of sales increase can be a difficult task, mainly when it is compared to promotion results. For that, statistical models are being developed using other measures rather than sales volumes. At the same time, the advertising turn up to be seen in a more scientific way. Moreover, it took a remarkable place within the Marketing Research, creating different tendencies about the best way of guarenteeing the investiment return. Here is showed an essay of linking the theory and the most important and confirmed results of Advertising Reserch, presenting one methodology that assures this return with some guarantee.

[en] HUMOR IN ADVERTISING: RECALL, ATTITUDE AND AFFECTION / [es] HUMOR EN LA PROPAGANDA: RECALL, ACTITUD Y AFECTO / [pt] HUMOR NA PROPAGANDA:RECALL, ATITUDE E AFEIÇÃO

DANIEL KAMLOT 23 October 2001 (has links)
[en] Presently, we can notice the sprouting of many products and brands, in many sectors of the market. This hard competition leads firms to develop new communication strategies to make the public remember the advertised products and brands. One of the most used tools in advertising is humor and, in this work, we will examine and analyze the characteristics of this option, aiming at retaining the attention of the people to whom the advertising is addressed. It is noticed that products and brands advertised using humor have higher recall in television, but this doesn`t occur in print media. The proportion of advertisements correctly remembered is also higher when humor is present. It is also noticed that the majority of people prefer advertisings with humor than the ones without it, but people don`t change their attitudes because of the presence of humor, i.e., humor is not responsible for increasing the interest of the public for the advertised product. [en] ONLINE ALGORITHMS ANALYSIS FOR SPONSORED LINKS SELECTION / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DE ALGORITMOS ONLINE PARA SELEÇÃO DE LINKS PATROCINADOS

LUIZ FERNANDO FERNANDES DE ALBUQUERQUE 04 August 2010 (has links)
[en] Sponsored links are those that appear highlighted at Internet search engine results. They are responsible for a large amount of their providers’ revenue. To advertisers, that place bids for keywords in large auctions at Internet, these links are the opportunity of brand exposing and achieving more clients. To search engine companies, one of the main challenges in this business model is selecting which advertisers should be allocated to each new query to maximize their total revenue in the end of the day. This is a typical online problem, where for each query is taken a decision without previous knowledge of future queries. Once the decision is taken, it can not be modified anymore. In this work, using synthetically generated data, we do experimental evaluation of three algorithms proposed in the literature for this problem and compare their results with the optimal offline solution. Considering that daily query set obeys some well known distribution, we propose two algorithms based on stochastic information, those are evaluated in the same scenarios of the others.
