[en] The growing global competitiveness has led many organizations to restructure their processes, making them more lean and dynamic, requiring greater flexibility, better quality and lower cost. With that, the sustainability themes and purchases have shown increasing academic interest in recent years. With regard to sustainability, its importance is mainly due to attention aroused face climate change caused by predation of Man on the environment. Because of this, companies are worrying not only with gains, but also with the environmental, economic and social factors. In respect of Purchases, this activity has assumed important strategic position within companies in recent years, especially when the companies noted how much that is spending with purchases and what is the percentage that represents this value in the final product. Allied to these issues, there are very few studies in the literature related to the concept of sustainability within the purchasing process. This concept is important, since the more sustainable the company is in its processes, the greater your competitive advantage. This dissertation presents the identification of sustainability factors which are tangible and required for the purchasing process for it to be considered sustainable. The main contribution of this study is the implementation and evaluation of a model portfolio of purchases aimed at sustainability. The central question that aims to answer is How do the sustainability factors must be applied to obtaining a sustainable Purchase ? and is supplemented using a case study for diagnosis of a shopping category of a company in the mining sector, allocated on the Kraljic matrix leverage quadrant. The starting point is the identification of the factors that characterize a contracting process as sustainable. For this, an extensive literature review was conducted. After applying the template, it appears that the category analyzed is classified as a Strategic Commodity in Pagell model et al. and as main feature can cite the delivery risk the buyer takes from low to high due to the need to invest in the relationship with suppliers to mitigate risks to the Triple Bottom Line.

BEATRIZ FINKIELSZTEJN 01 March 2007 (has links)
[en] The natural fibers sustainable use in architectonic structural membranes construction is the main question of this dissertation. The association between the Textile Modular Systems and the inter-actions studies between natural fibers, technologies, and environment, aloud to incorporate into conception and manufacturing strategies of Architecture & Design objects , textile craftsmanship technologies and sustainable environment parameters. Social and environment footprints perceived, industrial and craftsmanship technologies of natural fibers uses, their relations to the social and material environment, and the strategies learned from Nature and reproduced through experiences in Architecture & Design, are investigated here. The consumation of the Experimental Methodology through prototypes aloud to elaborates the principles that conceived the basis of the Textile Modular Systems. The investigations accomplished contribute to improve and adequate the textile craftsmanship technologies and the available non-patterned natural fibers, adapting them to several contexts through the Textile Modular Systems.

[en] MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES IN AMAZONAS STATE: THE CASE OF TARUMÃ-AÇU / [pt] GESTÃO DE RECURSOS HÍDRICOS NO ESTADO DO AMAZONAS: O CASO DA BACIA DO TARUMÃ-AÇU

SIRLEY DE FATIMA DOS SANTOS DE MELO 19 February 2019 (has links)
[en] The management of water resources is a way to solve problems in quantity and quality, uses and conflicts, to meet the demands of a society. The Amazonas State, despite having the largest reserves of fresh water in the world, presents significant problems due to irrational use and environmental impacts. The Tarumã-Açu Basin is located 20 km from the urban center of Manaus City, is a subbasin of the Amazon Basin and has as its main water body the Tarumã-Açu River, a tributary of the Rio Negro that flows into the Amazon River. Characterized by its natural scenic beauty, it is strongly impacted by oil spills from vessels, improper dumping of waste, percolation of slurry, among others, facts that motivated users to seek solutions, which resulted in the creation of the first Basin Committee in the Region Amazon Basin. This research analyzes the management practices of this Committee and investigates the effectiveness of its actions. We used the method of Bibliographic Research and Descriptive Research, with parts of the Applied Research, plus photographic records and questionnaire application, which was based on a Case Study. The results indicate that the management has not reached the necessary maturity to mitigate the impacts, to recover the degraded areas and to assure the sustainability of the Basin. It is concluded that the lack of resources has led to the paralysis of the Committee, but with the intensification of the magnitude of the impacts and the resilience of the ecosystem tending to criticality, the reactivation of the Tarumã-Açu CBH is necessary and needs to be structured to fulfill its purpose.

BIANCA MARINHO QUINTELLA 18 May 2018 (has links)
[en] The terms Sustainable Neighborhoods or Green Neighborhoods have been increasingly used by society as a positive way to occupy new areas. This concern for the sustainable development of cities has meant that developers across the country to adhere to this thought, seeking certification as a way to classify their projects at different levels of sustainability and add value to their works (FARR, 2013). Currently there are numerous enterprises certified and in process of certification in the country. However, environmental certification for neighborhoods has not been much discussed and used in Brazil. While the use of sustainability increases in urban projects, it grows the need to develop sustainability indicators that serve as a reference for assessing urban policies implemented in the city. What can be seen nowadays is an urban legislation where the indices for construction differ from the indices required by environmental certifications, and therefore require a compatibility of urban laws with environmental certifications, enabling thus a sustainable urban growth of neighborhoods (FARR, 2013). The main problem of this research is: what would be the best way to measure sustainability in urban settlements. The indicators are fully applicable to the Brazilian urban environment? The construction is major cause of degradation in the environment. Thus it justifies the choice of this subject, as an attempt to gather information and data to encourage the construction of neighborhoods that cause less environmental impacts. The overall objective of this research consist of listing sustainability indicators for urban neighborhoods and housing developments, which are in accordance with the law of Rio de Janeiro and the local reality. The methodology adopted for this study consist of the following stages of research: conceptualize the term urban sustainability; describe indicators with essential importance to enable sustainable urban development; list the most used and recognized environmental certifications for neighborhoods; analyze the LEED ND certification; analyze and apply the concepts of LEED ND in the study subdivision.

[en] The current context of the business world demands continuous changes in business and leads to the need for administrators whose profile extends beyond the traditional academic training, requiring additional behavioral qualities, and comprehensive view of the world. The formation and knowledge of processes, methods and techniques of management are necessary but not sufficient to face the current challenges: it is necessary an approach that identifies opportunities and promotes changes. In this light, and from the observation of a gap in the literature of the Brazilian administration, the ultimate purpose of this dissertation was to discuss how entrepreneurial behavior, developed by entrepreneurial education, is associated with innovative behavior and to clarify the relationship between entrepreneurial behavior and business sustainable behavior. The possible connection between the three main behavior due to the fact it is possible to identify common characteristics of entrepreneurial behavior, innovative behavior and business sustainable behavior. To this end, it was adopted for this study an allegation of constructive knowledge with the intention to develop a pattern of meaning and understand, interpret and understand its meaning. The type of research adopted was descriptive and explanatory by means of literature and internet sources. As a result of the study, it was proposed a layout and an association, more than just show a simple approach between the subjects, it suggests an interrelationship between entrepreneurial education, entrepreneurial behavior, innovative behavior, business sustainable behavior and business sustainability.

[en] SETTLEMENT PRICE OF DIFFERENCES SWAP: THE CASE OF WIND-PARKS / [pt] SWAP DE PREÇOS DE LIQUIDAÇÃO DA DIFERENÇA: O CASO DE PARQUES EÓLICOS

ESLEY RODRIGUES DE JESUS 07 July 2016 (has links)
[en] The panorama of the energy market in Brazil allows energy producers to make swap operations with prices, decreasing the intrinsic risks of operation, besides ensuring, occasionally, better profits. Due to the difference between the demands of the various energy submarkets, they may arbitrage the prices to minimize their losses. With the objective to find better ways to make this swap, and working on two thousand series of the settlement price of differences, from the years of 2016, 2017 and 2018, it was possible to analyze the magnitude of the risks, considering the hedge. Despite the results, the Brazilian energy infrastructure is highly dependent on rainfall patterns, showing clear weakness in drought periods. A higher investment in the sustainable energy sector, is necessary in or-der to ensure a more continuous supply, taking into account the experience of other countries.

[en] MOTIVATIONS AND FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY IN HOSPITALITY: TWO CASE STUDIES IN BRAZIL / [pt] MOTIVAÇÕES E FATORES QUE INFLUENCIAM A ESTRATÉGIA DE SUSTENTABILIDADE EM HOTELARIA: DOIS ESTUDOS DE CASO NO BRASIL

ANANIAS AUGUSTO DE ANDRADE 15 June 2018 (has links)
[en] The hospitality industry, like any other business segment, is directly related to the environmental, social and economic development aspects. This segment has a high potential to contribute positively with the local community in which it is inserted when the different stakeholders are considered in the sustainability companies policy. Therefore, the performance of a hotel in a conscious and sustainable way, based on social concerns and the correct use of the available natural resources, will contribute to the well-being of the next generations. Thus, this study discusses the sustainability concept, its respective insertion in the companies strategy and the adoption of practices related to the concept of the Triple Bottom Line. The present study is based on two case studies of Brazilian hotels with sustainability certifications and aims to understand the motivating factors for the adoption of sustainable practices by hotels and the respective facilitating factors and barriers for the adoption of such practices. We used as theoretical reference studies of hotels, both in Brazil and abroad. When compared to other published studies, the results of the research carried out with the two hotels present different narratives that justify the company s adoption of sustainability practices. The motivations range from alignment to hotel values and vocation to financial aspects to increase earnings. The adopted environmental practices presented similarity between the analyzed cases and published studies, considering the character of standardization existing in certification processes.

[en] SOCIAL METABOLISM IN A DAIRY INDUSTRY IN THE RURAL AREA OF VISCONDE DE MAUÁ (RJ) / [pt] METABOLISMO SOCIAL EM UMA INDÚSTRIA DE LATICÍNIOS NA ZONA RURAL DE VISCONDE DE MAUÁ (RJ)

LUIZA MOURA FARIA 07 February 2018 (has links)
[en] The research on the waste management of a small dairy factory, located in Visconde de Mauá (RJ), started from the concern with the environmental effects observed in the stream close to the small industry. According to a water quality study in 2012, the stream had a great anthropic impact caused by the industrial occupation of dairy products (Carreño, 2012). The Rio Preto is the largest water body whose main villages are on the banks of the streams. In addition, it is currently the main tourist attraction of Visconde de Mauá. The river has several waterfalls, wells, fishing areas, areas for extreme sports, among other characteristics unique to the place. Thus, the conservation and maintenance of water quality are fundamental to sustain society in Visconde de Mauá. The region underwent several changes in terms of economic activity and landscape transformation. Today, the main activities are tourism and the industrial production of a small dairy factory. Saw cheese is still highly valued by both tourists and locals alike, who many consider it a substitute for meat, as it is easy to conserve in rainy seasons. Such practices provide the economic development and employability of local residents, however, failures in socio-environmental management are observed. The performance of public agencies is deficient in terms of planning, infrastructure and water management, sewage, garbage, real estate speculation, health posts and mobility. This work proposes a qualitative analysis of the waste management of a small dairy factory, under the perspective of the concept Social Metabolism.

[en] POLICIES FOR SUSTAINABLE HOUSING IN RIO DE JANEIRO: UNCONVENTIONAL MATERIALS IN INTERACTIVITY WITH THE PARTICULAR ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING IN RIO / [pt] POR POLÍTICAS HABITACIONAIS SUSTENTÁVEIS NO RIO DE JANEIRO: MATERIAIS NÃO-CONVENCIONAIS EM INTERATIVIDADE COM AS PARTICULARIDADES SOCIOAMBIENTAIS DO TERRITÓRIO CARIOCA

LUCAS ALVES RIPPER 02 June 2010 (has links)
[en] This study aims to revive and reframe the study of regional architecture oriented housing policies of local sustainability, from the use of unconventional materials associated with low economic costs and reduced environmental impact. This redefinition is to give people access to low-income homes to own, taking into account the use, morphology, material resources and other characteristics of natural places where such architectures can be developed. Given the lack of sustainable housing policies in major metropolitan areas of Brazil, this study is presented as a way to go for science today, which may promote the perception that nature will do, primarily, for the enjoyment of those who live in spaces. The City of Rio de Janeiro, because of its uniqueness as the City of Nature will be the cut worked, since joining the urbanity with its immense natural potential discarded by various public policies. Nature carioca can generate, through public managers, the democratization of housing in the city with clean use of sustainable materials in the production of residential units affordable. Currently are used almost exclusively, construction materials bound in the modern period of the twentieth century that degrade the environment. We can say that the use of these materials in the twentieth century has become a tradition of modernity associated with the ideas of progress and development. Among the potential materials offered by nature carioca should emphasize raw land and bamboo, materials which have for centuries supported the survival of man in Brazil and the world. In this context, we conclude that the solutions for the generation of sustainable housing adapted to the specificities of Rio (and Brazil), should emerge from this space through their labor, materials and techniques peculiar, reflecting a major reinterpretation the interaction between man, technology and nature.

[pt] ESTUDO DO SISTEMA CONSTRUTIVO EM ALVENARIA ESTRUTURAL NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRO FACE AOS CONCEITOS E CONSTRUÇÃO SUSTENTÁVEL / [en] STUDY OF THE CONSTRUCTIVE SYSTEM IN STRUCTURAL MASONRY IN THE CITY OF RIO DE JANEIRO FACE TO THE CONCEPTS OF SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

29 October 2021 (has links)
[en] In this thesis the use of structural masonry constructive system is investigated in light of the concepts of sustainable construction in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This study is based on the evolution and growing importance of the construction sector within Brazilian economy, and the current trend in the construction market in the search for processes that minimize impacts on the environment with rational use of natural resources. The earliest records of civil construction activity in the city of Rio de Janeiro date from the colonial period, at a time which those activities were unregulated. In 1810 King João VI established the engineering school. The period between the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century was a time of intense economic transformation with the decay of the coffee plantations and the beginning of the industrial development. In 1940 there was a breakthrough in civil construction in Brazil, when the sector was considered one of the most advanced of its time. In 1971 there was great progress in the sector of construction in Rio de Janeiro with the creation of BNH, Banco Nacional da Habitação, and the Law of the Real Estate Development (Lei das Incorporações). The 90s were marked by the improvement of the qualification of the workforce, resulting in better products. The 2000s were distinguished by the boom in housing construction in the west zone and the expansion of large construction companies landbanks. In 2008 the growth was toward the north zone, however, by the end of that year, with the peak of the global crisis known as Subprime, the sector started suffering from a poor performance cycle until in the first half of 2009. The government program called Minha Casa Minha Vida was launched providing a better environment, with the incentive to produce one million new housing units. By the second half of 2009 the construction market was fully recovered. Many companies created new brands or subsidiaries to focus their business in this new market niche, and the use of large-scale structural masonry was considered the most suitable technology to be used in this type of construction. In 2011, the sector continued to grow driven by the demand fostered by the Olympic Games and the approval of new urban zoning laws. In this study the major projects launched in the city of Rio de Janeiro between 2005 and 2012 were mapped as well as the number of constructions that adopted structural masonry during this period. Impacts of civil construction on the environment range from the generation of raw material to the end of the useful life of products built. As a consequence of the growth experienced by the civil construction sector and its great economic impact, principles of sustainability standards and certifications arouse aiming the achievement of sustainable development in the entire production chain. Over the years, several international events debated on sustainability. In 1713 Carl Von Carlowitz published the first treaty on sustainable use of forest resources. In 1976 the first world conference on housing and environment was held in Canada. The system in structural masonry is ancient and its use dates back to early human activity process. Around 4000 years before Christ structures were employed for varied purposes and materials were usually blocks of clay and stone. In the seventeenth century the system becomes a construction technology based on principles of static. Element resistance tests begun to be performed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The projects were based on limited empirical calculation methods, resulting in very thick walls and slow production speed. In the 50 s there was a revival of interest in structural masonry driven by the shortage of building materials in Europe, such as steel. The use of structural masonry in Brazil began in the sixteenth century, during the colonial period; yet, the process was not rationalized. By the 70s, the structural masonry was considered engineering technology in Brazil and projects started to be based on scientifically validated principles. With this evolution, it became more efficient and an economical alternative, although still somewhat precarious. Structural masonry achieved its consolidation with official norms in the 80s. Ancient definitions considered that the buildings should be formed of natural or artificial stones linked together in a stable manner by the combination of joints and mortar (or only by one of the two), capable of resisting only to compressive stresses. Currently, buildings in structural masonry are formed by industrial blocks (ceramic or concrete) designed and sized by calculation procedures to support loads beyond their own weight and resist compression. They are linked together by the interposition of mortar and can contain rebar in concrete or mortar in horizontal and / or vertical plane. They are classified as armed, unarmed, partially armed or pre-stressed. The structural masonry consists of four main components. The units are the basic components that define the resistance characteristics. Units can be concrete, ceramic or sand-lime blocks, solid or hollow. The mortar is a mixture of sand, cement, lime and water responsible for laying and unifying the units. It transmits and uniforms the stresses throughout the blocks, seal out water and wind and even out small deformations. Rebars are steel bars surrounded by grout that make all components of the masonry work together. The grout is a very fluid micro concrete with aggregates and it is responsible for the union of blocks with rebars within its hollows. The rationalization of structural masonry brings results by improving productivity and quality, with consequent increased value added. It also incentives increase in productivity and cost reduction in the supply chain, while meeting construction standards. As a result, the final consumer can buy at a lower price. Modulation was already used by the Greeks, Romans and Japanese. It represented to them, respectively, aesthetic, functional and aesthetic and functional character. At present time, for the modulation process to be harmonized, it is needed to update the standard as to the sizing of the blocks. The incompatibility between the dimensions of the components of the building often results in large thicknesses dimensional settings and designs solutions that do not properly address these adjustments, which end up being performed impromptu in the work site. The advantages of modulation are: simplification in project design, standardization of building components, optimization of the dimensions with reduction of different shapes, less interface problems between components and subsystems, standardization of detail and dimensional accuracy, rationalization and simplification in the execution of the work due to ease of assembly, reduction of material breaks, thus avoiding losses in construction. The disadvantages are: the need to have standardized components without dimensional and qualitative variation in the market, and need for investment in preparation and training of manpower. The definition of the system to be used by the constructor occurs in the study phase. It is usually observed: the type and purpose of the project, the maximum number of floors, the ceiling heights between slabs, the size of compartments and wall allocation, the eventual need for sheltered parking and its mixed solution analysis, the size of balconies, the need for flexibility of plans, if penthouses should have swimming pool, the dimensioning of the common areas. In the cases where the product can fit in structural masonry guidelines, this has been the preferred construction system. The project in structural masonry should consider the coordination between the various project disciplines with the integration between the design teams. Schedule of the project design should be prepared with the correct interaction of reconciliations. The design should be standardized and simplify the solutions and should provide full details of projects to avoid doubts and execution errors during construction. Wall rebar can be done directly with interlocking blocks, requiring interposition between blocks of 50 per cent in intercepted wall. It also can be done by placing the rebar in mortar joints with 90 angle, as well as through folded steel bars, industrialized trusses or staples, steel decks or similar materials of proven resistance. Electrical installation must be standardized in the predefined rows heights. The hydraulic and gas installations must be apparent and not embedded in order not to interfere in modulations. The project modulated masonry must have solutions that minimize the need for adjustments or additional elements while helping reconcile the different project disciplines. This constructive method is examined regarding its execution details, increase in production and other benefits to the construction itself. Furthermore, qualitative impacts on the product and the social and cultural aspects due to the system s technical limitations and the applicable laws and regulations are analyzed. The main certifications like AQUA, LEED, PROCEL EDIFICA, CASA AZUL, SANTANDER OBRA SUSTENTÁVEL and QUALIVERDE were analyzed in view of the current necessity of the real estate market to seek for more sustainable construction processes. It was analyzed the positive and negative aspects, as well as possible limitations of structural masonry for obtaining the building approvals. Two recently launched projects in structural masonry were analyzed. Through case studies one can compare them to competing projects built in conventional reinforced concrete structure and it is possible to understand the main differences between the products. The projects were also evaluated for the possibility of obtaining green building certification. AQUA was chosen as the reference certification. It provided the features used in the comparative between the different systems. To meet all categories of the certification, some aspects of the project might need to be adjusted, such as layout, wall thickness and span dimension. The main conclusion is that structural masonry will not always completely fulfill the needs of various projects because of certain technical limitations. Taking sustainability into account, structural masonry has a number of benefits beginning with the modulation of the process which generates less waste. However, it can limit the design of more comfortable and sophisticated products, for example with differentiated solutions for layout and façades. Even considering that some companies have used structural masonry in the construction of buildings for the middle class, with selling prices around BRL 7,000 to BRL 8,000 per square meter, this solution was not well accepted either by the contractors or those clients, whereas it is largely used in lower class constructions.
