[en] BUYING IN ELECTRONIC SUPERMARKETS: ARE THERE BARRIERS? / [pt] COMPRAS EM SUPERMERCADOS ELETRÔNICOS: EXISTEM BARREIRAS?

CAROLINA VAN DER LINDEN DE SOUZA 08 July 2004 (has links)
[en] Retailing is an industrial segment which has changed much in the last few years because of the development of information and telecommunication technologies that brought up a revolution in the world. In the last 50 years, Brazilian supermarkets have evolved from the first brick- and-mortar store to ecommerce. On the one hand, electronic supermarkets seem like a cheap solution for the expansion of their companies. On the other, certain consumer segments have great resistance in doing their shopping on the Internet. Many people, regular computer and Internet-users, would rather go to the physical store than do their shopping in the website. The goal of this paper is to perform an exploratory research on the reasons why consumers do not use electronic media when they do their supermarket shopping. To achieve this goal we went through certain steps. First, the attributes of brick-and-mortar supermarkets were described by observatory research. The following step was a qualitative research with focus groups, with the objective of studying the interaction of consumers with supermarket websites done through discourse analysis. The last step was a quantitative research with a sample of consumers, to raise and test the barriers. The analysis of the data obtained showed the existence of barriers to online supermarket shopping for consumers with access to computers and the Internet. These barriers can be overcome by the retailer through a change in the marketing mix.

[pt] IMPACTO DAS ESTRATÉGIAS COMPETITIVAS NO DESEMPENHO DE EMPRESAS VAREJISTAS / [en] THE IMPACT OF COMPETITIVE STRATEGIES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF RETAILER COMPANIES

THAIS BRAZ PEREIRA 30 May 2022 (has links)
[en] The present study aims to analyze the competitive strategies adopted by Brazilian retail companies and the impact on their results, generating a taxonomy that allows a better understanding of this sector. The selected companies are the largest in the segment in Brazil, representing more than 60 percent of revenue, from 2017 to 2021. Secondary data from Economática and from the investor information of each company were used to select strategic and performance variables. Such data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) algorithms. After preparing the database, consisting of 37 companies, with treatment of outliers and missing values, the relevant factors for defining the clustering variables were extracted from the strategic space. The application, in sequence, of hierarchical cluster analysis and k-means made it possible to determine the optimal number of clusters and generate groups of companies with defined strategic profiles, so that those in the same group adopt similar strategies, although different from those employed by companies in other groups. MANOVA tests were performed to validate this conclusion. Finally, the performance vectors of each cluster were calculated and the appropriate statistical tests, MANOVA and ANOVA, including post hoc analysis, were performed to create a hierarchy that would lend practical meaning to the taxonomy. The conclusion is that the taxonomy with three clusters has better adherence to the reality of the sector and that companies that practice broad differentiation strategies perform better than those that practice cost or any type of approach.

[en] The retail sector in Brazil over the past few years, assumed major prominence in the business environment. Because of the accelerated consolidation featuring Brazilian retail activities, a lot of companies in this segment appear as the biggest in the country. From the expansion of these companies, the adoption of advanced information technology and management is necessary, contributing to the modernization and expansion of the Brazilian economy. Given this context, and seeking better alternatives in decision making process, many retailers are using geographical information. Among them, geomarketing, to assist in the expansion process and minimize the possibility of errors. Although many companies do not use the technology and their computational tools, those responsible for making decisions have a mental representation of the geographic distribution of its customers and markets. This information used in decision making process is directly linked to the geographical factor. This dissertation seeks, from a case study in a retailer of women s clothing; verify the application of Geomarketing and its use in expanding the business. By using qualitative research through case study, it was observed that this tool provides geographic information for analysis and decision making aimed at installing new outlets. The results show that the use of Geomarketing contributes and assists managers in decision making process for the location of new outlets process. The results also reveal difficulties in obtaining updated geographic data of the Brazilian territory. However, the introduction of analytical techniques using a combination of geography and marketing enables a gain for retailers to reduce the risk of error in choosing new points.

[pt] MARCAS PRÓPRIAS: UM ESTUDO DOS MERCADOS SUPERMERCADISTAS FRANCÊS E BRASILEIRO / [en] PRIVATE LABELS: A BRAZILIAN AND FRENCH GROCERY RETAIL MARKET STUDY

DANIEL SALDANHA ERTHAL 22 November 2007 (has links)
[en] Private Labels (PL s) products blunts as being one of the main tools for retailers to grow and to foment their profits. In developed countries such as France and the US, they already represent 36 percent and 20 percent of the total grocery retail sales respectively. In Brazil, this percentage still does not exceed 7 percent. The purpose of this study is to undertake a comparative analysis between the Brazilian and French PL markets verifying their similarities and differences to outline the possible future perspectives for this segment in Brazil. The French retail market has been selected because of the maturity of its market concerning PLs and due to the two main Brazilian grocery retailers being controlled directly or indirectly by French companies. The literature on this topic in Brazil is still limited and, in it s majority is focused on the industry-retail relationship, with a few references to international markets as it is proposed in this study (Brito et al., 2004). From data collected in personal interviews with top managers of the main Brazilian and French grocery retailers which represent 85 percent and 75 percent of PL s total sales in their markets, an overview of the Brazilian market and a comparison between the two markets has been built. Subsequently, based on the analised data, possible Brazilian PL market scenarios have been outlined. The results show that the Brazilian market is still underdeveloped when compared to the French one due to the Brazilian market History and to the high involvment with brands by Brazilian consumers. The perspective concerning the Brazilian market in the near future is to professionalize itself, with an increase in consumer acceptance and to develop new product categories in the medium and long term.

DENILSON RICARDO DE LUCENA NUNES 14 February 2017 (has links)
[en] The retail companies are constantly seeking to increase their competitiveness. Among the factors that influence this competitiveness, this thesis focuses on the cost of supplies and the level of customer service. The level of service depends on the planning of inventories, which aims to balance the supply of products to the demand. The starting point of this planning is the demand forecast. Thus, this thesis proposes a routine of monitoring forecasting errors using statistics called Tracking Signal. These statistics are used to detect when the forecasting error out shows the expected behavior, thus indicating a bias in the forecasts. For this purpose, an experiment was conducted which resulted: determination of detection limits for these statistics; identification those most effective in detecting bias in forecasts by simple exponential smoothing. Moreover, the reduction in costs of supplies and improving the level of service are also covered by this thesis proposed an inventory model. This model considers an item on a system with two echelons and periodic review, consisting of a Warehouse (W) and N retail stores. The retails revisions apply in equal and synchronized interval; it is possible the W partially deliver the orders to the stores in case of shortages. For this model, a search algorithm based on the golden section method, which minimizes the total cost in the system given the target level of service in retail was developed.

[en] GUARANTEEING THE STRATEGIC FIT OF TRADE MARKETING: FOCUSING FIRMS IN THE CONSUMER GOODS MARKET / [pt] ASSEGURANDO ADEQUAÇÃO ESTRATÉGICA DO TRADE MARKETING: FOCO EM EMPRESAS DE BENS DE CONSUMO

NIVALDO DE BARROS E SILVA NETO 24 July 2009 (has links)
[en] Competition in the non-durable consumer goods market has been growing apace in recent years, and companies that operate in this segment have been finding it increasingly difficult to differentiate their products from those of their competitors. The new competitive scenario has made industries realize the importance of customers who distribute their products to the final consumer, whether they be retailers (supermarkets, drugstores, convenience stores) or wholesalers and distributors. Having a good commercial relationship with these elements of the production chain now constitutes a major competitive differential for industries in the mass consumer goods market. Operational strategies at points of sale - where product purchases effectively occur - have become particularly important. In order to fulfill these new market needs, firms have also been obliged to modify their organizational structures. These changes have led to the appearance of a new area in organizations, known as TRADE MARKETING. Trade Marketing’s aim is to unify strategies developed by marketing areas and effectively implement them at points of sale. These strategies are implemented by sales areas and the latter do not always agree with strategies proposed by marketing areas, as they are not aligned with customer expectations. Trade Marketing’s function is to bring sales and marketing areas closer together. Despite this new area’s growing strategic importance, there are few scientific studies devoted to this theme. The present research sought to identify the factors that facilitate or hinder the Trade Marketing area’s strategic fit. Using Macedo Soares’ (2001) Generic Integrative model for strategic analysis, the author performed a survey of executives of the sector in order to discover a list of attributes that assure the strategic fit of their companies’ Trade Marketing areas.

[pt] COMPORTAMENTO MULTIGERACIONAL NO MULTIVERSO DE CANAIS SUPERMERCADISTAS / [en] MULTIGENERATIONAL BEHAVIOR IN THE MULTIVERSE OF SUPERMARKET CHANNELS

BRUNO LEITE DE CASTRO GRIMALDI 26 June 2023 (has links)
Os Xennials apresentaram comportamento similar à Geração X e Geração Y. / [en] Retail is in the age of big data and more and more information is being generated about the customer journey. It is critical to store this buyer journey data to better understand customers in order to maintain the relationship with them. However, capturing data is just the first step, and analyzing this information is essential to segment customers and offer what they want. Using a real customer base (around 600,000 customers) of a large supermarket chain, this study aimed to understand their behavior in terms of channels from cohorts of different generations to determine unique purchases, total purchase spend , total unique items purchased (destined products), and total items purchased. In addition, it also evaluates the purchase behavior for own brand items and items from the supermarket s exclusive supplier, with the aim of understanding these differences and enabling more assertive actions in terms of CRM and marketing for the company. In analyzing the data, it was found that WhatsApp was the most consistent channel. Baby Boomers were more likely to use this channel, while Millennials and Generation Z were less likely. The digital channel showed a difference only in terms of spending, and the physical channel was preferred by Generation X and Baby Boomers. Xennials showed behavior similar to Generation X and Generation Y.

[en] INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCES IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY: ANALYSES OF THE STRATEGIC FIT AND OF THE INTERNATIONALIZATION PROCESS OF OSKLEN / [pt] ALIANÇAS INTERNACIONAIS NA INDÚSTRIA DE MODA: ANÁLISES DA ADEQUAÇÃO ESTRATÉGICA (FIT) E DO PROCESSO DE INTERNACIONALIZAÇÃO DA OSKLEN

ANA CAROLINA DORNELES COTIA BRAGA 31 August 2010 (has links)
[en] In the competitive world of textile and clothing trade, there is a tendency to establish international strategic alliances between companies, seeking - among other benefits - additional resources, risk reduction, and production cost savings. For Brazilian fashion companies who want to internationalize their brands, the establishment of international partnerships can bring significant competitive advantages. The research at issue in this thesis aims to analyze the internationalization strategy of a Brazilian fashion retailer, and the implications of forming and maintaining its international alliances. Precisely, it seeks to analyze a Brazilian fashion retailer`s strategic fit (strategic choices and projections for the future) considering the international context in which the company operates. It is based on the assumption that it is important to consider the implications of alliances and networks, as well as that of the internationalization process for the company`s conduct and performance. The company focused upon is Osklen, a leader in the segment in which it operates. With a view to collecting the necessary data, in-depth interviews were conducted with executives of the company, who besides answering a questionnaire, provided information on the company`s international operations. In addition, public information available on websites specialized in the sector (also including the website of the company) was collected. The Strategic Network Analysis (SNA) tool, developed by Macedo- Soares (2002), was adopted for analyzing the data from a relational perspective. The SNA tool includes a methodology, a graphic model, in the sense of a map of the firm`s ego-net within its value net, and reference lists with relational constructs. The case study of this company added to these established reference lists new constructs that are particularly relevant to the fashion sector. Based on the results of relational analysis, the research strongly suggested that the establishment of strategic alliances has positive implications for the competitiveness of the company - providing enhancements of both company strengths and external opportunities, as well as minimization of company weaknesses and macroenvironmental threats. Finally, it was observed that Osklen’s strategic alliances have had-and continue to have-positive implications for the company’s internationalization process.
