Det osynliga våldet : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys av nyhetsrapporteringen om våld i äldres parrelationer / The Invisible Violence : A qualitative content analysis of news reporting regarding intimate partner violence in elderly couples

Lindström, Emilia January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge about how the news media reports on intimate partner violence among elderly couples. The focus was on studying how the violence is portrayed and explained and how perpetrators, victims and their relationships are portrayed in news articles. The study is based on an understanding that the media's portrayal of the violence affects the public's perception of the violence. Based on this, the study aims to gain increased knowledge about the image of violence in the elderly’s couple relationships that is communicated to the public through news media.  This qualitative study is based on a total of 33 news articles published between January 2019 and March 2022 in the Swedish newspapers Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Expressen and Aftonbladet. The results show that the media’s reporting is mainly about lethal violence. The violence is portrayed as individual and isolated events, where an understanding of the violence as domestic violence is absent. The media's descriptions of perpetrators, victims and their relationships lead to that they are presented according to ageist and stereotypical images of the elderly.

Evaluating the use of Narrative Therapy and Art Therapy among Women Who Have Experienced the Trauma of Domestic Violence

Bryant, Cindy G. 01 April 2020 (has links) (PDF)
This research study is aimed at evaluating the artwork created by a woman who has experienced the trauma of domestic violence. A qualitative research approach was used to capture the phenomenological outcomes in the art created during art therapy sessions using the theoretical lens of narrative therapy to analyze the art. For this study the subject was a young woman from Central America who had come into therapy per court mandate to address the issues of domestic violence at a community-based mental health center where the researcher was conducting her second- year practicum. The data (art) was gathered after each art therapy session. Five sessions in total were conducted where the subject was given various art making directives. The subject created six total pieces of artwork during the five sessions. The researcher then analyzed the artwork created by the subject using a phenomenological approach while looking for common themes found in the artwork using a narrative therapy lens with which to view the artwork. Many themes uncovered in the artwork were parallel to narrative therapy theory such as resilience and empowerment and held the possibility of assisting the subject who experienced domestic violence in finding new outcomes.

Dating Violence Attitudes, Experiences and Perceptions of Women in College: An Indian Context

Som, Anurag 10 November 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to understand the attitudes, perceptions and experiences of college women in modern India with regard to intimate partner violence, specifically dating violence. Surveys were collected from 489 undergraduate female participants. Only 99 participants (20%) were or had been in a dating relationship. The participants in this study self reported both perpetrating and receiving violence in these relationships. A significant positive relationship was found between dating violence perpetration and victimization and four risk factors: witnessing and experiencing abuse in one's family of origin, attitudes justifying wife beating, and problem behaviors associated with alcohol use. A significant negative relationship was found between anger management skills and the perpetration and victimization of violence in dating relationships. Finally, even though the rate of dating and alcohol use is low in India, the problem behaviors associated with these phenomena are very similar to those identified in the United States. Although much is known about domestic violence and wife assault in the Indian context, there is almost no information or effort in the direction of prevention and education in the realm of dating violence. While India is advancing technologically, creating new opportunities for its youth, there is no simultaneous effort being made to protect its youth from risks of urbanization and cultural shifts. The young adults of India today are joining the global economy. However, there is no system put in place to educate and nurture their social and cultural evolution. Findings from this study suggest that as the youth open themselves up to the culture of dating and premarital courtship, there needs to be a parallel effort made to educate and train them about healthy relationships. / Master of Science

Föräldraskap - en falsk tro på jämställdhet? : En diskursanalys om det gemensamma föräldraansvaret / Parenthhood - a false belief in equality? : A discourse analysis about shared parental responsibility

Eliasson, Sonja, Kröjs, Madelaine January 2024 (has links)
The study examines a selection of guiding documents published by The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare and how they portray shared parental responsibilities when domestic violence take place. The aim is also to analyse the possible consequences of discourses about parenthood responsibilities when violence is involved. The thesis is based on discourse analysis, a feminist perspective and uses Bacchi’s “What’s the problem represented to be?” as a policy-analysis method. Two discourses were found. The discourse of gender-neutral parenthood tends to downplay violence by portraying it as a conflict between two parties. The discourse of shifting responsibility instead places the responsibility for the protection and welfare of children onto the abused parent only. In conclusion, the policy document under study frames shared parenting responsibilities in domestic violence situations within a social psychological understanding of violence, hence leaving a structural perspective out of the equation.
