Abstract: This qualitative study aims to analyze the different types of Brazilian videos posted on the Youtubesite, referring to the elderly. The study was developed by exploratory research through documentary videographic analysis. The videos were selected by the terms "idoso" and "mídia" at the Youtubesite). As research inclusion criteria, only Brazilian videos were considered which contained images and speeches that were expressed in Portuguese language and posted during the period of 2011 to 2012. The 60 videos were selected according to five different categories: 1) Reports (30 videos), 2) Videos with images and movies (13 videos), 3) Advertisements (12 videos), 4) Interviews (3 videos) and 5) Others (2 videos). Subsequently, their contents were analyzed by three thematic axes as proposed by the Content Analysis Technique : Theme 1 - Speech, Theme 2 - Body language, Theme 3 - Videos participation and peripheral contexts. The Theme 1 results show that most of the issues involved in the videos included the thematic aggression and the practice of various activities. Strong and lively voice tones were observed, but also weak and trembling voices were noted and the meanings of participants' speech in the videos showed, both negative and positive trends. However, it is evident that the negative trends had a higher incidence when came from peripheral people than the elderly. To the Theme 2, it was found the prevalence of the reduced movements by the elderly, which in the most of the situations, were seated during interview. They had their facial expression marked by smiles and laughter predominantly and, they got an upright posture in the most of the situations. Also, it was observed physical characteristics that demonstrated the elderly predominantly with white or brown skin, white, gray or dyed hair and older people wearing simple clothes, with light or dark colors and smooth. There was a predominance of the use of decorative objects... / Mestre

Obesity Among First and Second Generation Hispanic Adolescents in the United States: Insights from 2011-2012 National Survey of Children's Health

Umwali, Hyacinthe, Elom, Hilary, Veeranki, Sreenivas P., Liu, Ying, Peng, Zhao, Zheng, Shimin 11 April 2017 (has links)
Introduction: More than one-third of adults and 17% of children/adolescents in the US are overweight or obese contributing to significant morbidity and mortality, and healthcare costs. Studies have reported the persistence of adolescent obesity to adulthood, resulting in increased risk of chronic diseases such as asthma, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular, and liver diseases. Little is known about obesity patterns in subethnic populations in the US with high prevalence of obesity or overweight reported in Hispanic youth (21.9%) compared to non-Hispanic blacks (19.5%) and non-Hispanic whites (14.7%). Several genetic, uterine, and nutritional factors, and unhealthy behaviors were identified as risk factors. Evidence is emerging about the possible role of generational status in influencing adolescent obesity. The purpose of this study is to assess the association of generation status with adolescent overweight or obesity in Hispanics in the US. Methods: Data from the 2011-2012 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH)were used to conduct this study. Only Hispanic adolescents aged 10 to 17 years were included as study population. Using the age-sex-race specific cut-off points, we defined adolescent as being overweight or obese if they were above 85th or 95th percentile cut off point values for BMI. Generation status of an adolescent was categorized into three groups: a) generation 1 for those who were not born in US or to US citizens abroad, and migrated to US as children, b) generation 2 are those born in US but have at least one parent who is foreign born, and c) generation 3 or higher adolescents are those born in US to native-born parents. Multivariable models were conducted to test the association of generation status with adolescent obesity in Hispanics, adjusting for potential confounders. Results: A total of 5,217 Hispanic adolescents were included in the study. Approximately 1,650 and 31.7% of adolescents reported being overweight or obese. Approximately 857, 2,216 and 2,144 of adolescents are 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Hispanic youth. Comparing to 3rd generation adolescents, those belonging to 1st and 2ndgenerations were associated with increased odds of adolescent obesity in Hispanics OR1.48, 95% CI 1.177 – 1.867 and OR 1.405, 95% CI 1.227-1.610 for 1st and 2nd generation, respectively. Conclusion: Generational status is associated with increased relative odds of overweight or obesity in Hispanic adolescents. Aggregated estimates not accounting for nativity or county of origin of an adolescent contribute to significant heterogeneity or disparities in obesity prevalence or patterns, with implications for generation-specific interventions.

Return-Entry Risk Communication Following 2012 Hurricane Sandy

Manandhar, Rejina 12 1900 (has links)
Within risk communication, much is understood about pre-event warning related to evacuation and sheltering; however risk communication during the return-entry phase when ending evacuations has been largely under-studied in the disaster literature. Understanding of the return-entry risk communication process is important because returning early or prior to issuance of the all-clear message can make returnees susceptible to post-disaster risks, and also hamper post-disaster activities such as debris removal, traffic management, utility restoration and damage assessments. Guided by the Warning Components Framework and the Theory of Motivated Information Management, this dissertation focuses on risk communication as it pertains to organizational behavior during the return-entry process by examining how local emergency management organizations develop, disseminate and monitor return-entry messages. The data is collected through semi-structured telephone interviews with local emergency management organizations that managed return-entry following Hurricane Sandy. The findings of the study indicate that local emergency management organizations required information on post-disaster threats, damages, and utility and infrastructure condition in order to develop return-entry strategy for their community. Organizations improvised to their existing risk communication measures by adopting creative ways for information dissemination to the evacuees. They also utilized active and passive approach to monitor public response to the return-entry messages.

Utvärdering av Leicas multistations och laserskanners mätosäkerheter

Abdi, Shorash, Stedt, Fredrik January 2014 (has links)
Signalerna skannades in fyra gånger från varje instrumentuppställning. I MS50:s fall påvisades ingen signifikant skillnad alls. / Presently there is no standard for the evaluation of measurement uncertainties for terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) despite the fact that the instrument has been on the market and used for a long time. Since the manufacturer's specifications do not always correspond with reality, it is important to have knowledge about how well the instrument performs. Numerous studies over the past decade have applied different approaches to estimate the measurement uncertainties on various TLS. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the measurement uncertainties of the TLS Leica ScanStation C10 with the multi station Leica Nova MS50 under two different weather conditions. The uncertainty was calculated using ISO 17123-5:2012, which is an international standard developed for acquiring measurement uncertainties of total stations, to investigate whether this standard could also be applicable for TLS. The survey, which took place outdoor at the University of Gävle, was carried out by scanning targets that were set up in a triangle formation from three stations. Both spheres and HDS-targets were scanned with the TLS while the MS50 only scanned spheres. The targets were scanned four times from each instrument setup. Cyclone was used to find the coordinates on the center of the targets which were used to calculate the uncertainties according to the ISO-standard. The results showed that the 3D-uncertainty of C10 with HDS-target and spheres were 2.9 mm and 3.5 mm during sunny conditions and 1.1 mm and 1.4 mm during cloudy conditions, respectively. In the case of the MS50, the uncertainty was 3.0 mm during sunny and 3.7 mm during cloudy conditions. MS50 demonstrated a higher 3D-uncertainty in both weather conditions due to high uncertainty in the vertical direction. In addition, a chi-two-test carried out on the TLS showed that the calculated uncertainty in plane and height did not significantly deviate from the manufacturer's specified uncertainty when using HDS-targets during cloudy conditions. Furthermore, it was found in the F-test that there was a significant difference in plane and height between two scans with the same instrument and target type in different weather conditions. MS50 did not show any significant difference at all. The results of this study showed that there will be a significantly lower uncertainty when scanning in cloudy conditions. Our conclusion is that it is possible to apply the standard to calculate the measurement uncertainties on TLS and ISO should consider using the same standard for TLS as the total station.

Engelmann, Uwe, Kuß, Hannelore, Enskat, Kerstin 20 November 2018 (has links)
2009/2010 fort.

Skoldisciplin, hjälp eller stjälp Den politiska debatten och forskning School discipline, help or hindrance Political debate and research

Nilsson, Christian January 2016 (has links)
The Swedish school system during the 2000s, performed worse in terms of students' performance. In response to these results, two camps emerged regarding school discipline, and how this can help to reverse the deteriorating results. One camp wants to increase discipline, give the school the right to punishments such as detention. The second camp are opposed to greater discipline and believes that there are better methods to focus on. Methods, theories and research like progressive discipline, postitive behavior support, teacher and student centered strategies are applied to Swedish politicians' arguments about school discipline. To investigate the credibility of the increase or decrease in school discipline as a good method to reverse the ever deteriorating pupil results in Swedish schools. Chronologically, the work is limited to the years 2009 and 2012 with the intention to keep the work as relevant as possible, and to compare PISA results from 2009 and 2012 to ensure a decline in student achievement in the 2000s. The work is finalized by the Swedish school systems’s problems is ensured and that the politicians' arguments about school discipline is in relation to research and empirical data.

ECLAT - Das Stuttgarter Festival für Neue Musik in Geschichte, Kontext und Dramaturgie / ECLAT - Stuttgart's New Music Festival in its history, context and dramaturgy

Standke, Sarah Laila January 2022 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation has taken the ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart as the subject of research and would like to look at it from different perspectives in an all-encompassing way. Founded in 1980 as Tage für Neue Musik Stuttgart and renamed ECLAT in 1998, it is now one of the most important festivals for contemporary music in Germany and enjoys an international reputation. However, the ECLAT Festival has not yet been taken up in scientific research. This thesis therefore aims to close a gap not only as a contribution to the history of musical institutions, but also in the application of the concept of dramaturgy analysis, with which the dramatic form and structure of a festival for contemporary music is explored. The dissertation deals in detail with the history of the festival from its foundation to the present as well as with the surrounding circumstances, persons and institutions in Stuttgart. Particular attention is paid to the former SDR and today's SWR as a long-standing cooperation partner of the festival. In addition to the methodological perspective and source analysis in the sense of historical musicology, the musicologically applied focus is on a dramaturgy and listening analysis in a larger, interdisciplinary context. This was carried out exemplarily with a working out of the respective focal points and topics as well as their contextualisation on the basis of the individual festival years between 1998 and 2013 – a period that extends from the renaming of the festival from Tage für Neue Musik Stuttgart to ECLAT, which was accompanied by a repositioning with regard to its contents, and to the end of Hans-Peter Jahn's sole artistic direction, which lasted for more than two decades.
