Development Of Specimen Geometries For Mode I Fracture Toughness Testing With Disc Type Rock Specimens

Alkilicgil, Cigdem 01 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Flattened Brazilian disc and modified ring test methods are attractive methods being simpler compared to the other mode I fracture toughness testing methods on rock cores. The aim of this study is to improve these simple methods to yield fracture toughness values that are close to the ones determined by the suggested methods. ABAQUS finite element program was used to determine stress intensity factors of models with various dimensions. Comparing fracture toughness to the results obtained by semicircular bending method tests (0.94 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for andesite and 0.56 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for marble) and the cracked chevron notched Brazilian disc method tests (1.45 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for andesite and 1.08 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for marble), proper geometrical parameters were investigated by changing diameter, central-hole diameter, and loading angle of Ankara andesite and Afyon marble specimens. Semicircular bending method results were lower than the cracked chevron notched Brazilian disc method results. With flattened Brazilian disc method, the closest results (1.45 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for andesite and 1.12 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for marble) to the suggested method was obtained by 54 mm diameter discs with loading angles between 32.5&deg / and 38.0&deg / and with thicknesses between 19 mm and 34 mm. With modified ring test on andesite, the closest results to the suggested method was obtained by 75 mm diameter discs with 8 mm central-hole diameter and 25&deg / loading angle (1.47 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for andesite and 1.07 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for marble), and with 14 mm central-hole diameter and 16&deg / loading angle (1.50 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for andesite and 1.05 MPa&amp / #8730 / m for marble).

Outonomie in gevangeskap : 'n ekosistemiese perspektief

Van Lill, Jacob Johannes 06 1900 (has links)
The traditional Newtonian approach to science is based on three fundamental assumtions, namely linear causality, reductionism and objectivity. Serious criticism is increasingly being brought against these fundamental assumptions of the Newtonian approach. Specifically the systemic and ecosystemic approaches have presented alternative ways of thought (epistemology). The mos t contemporary epistemology, namely the ecosystemic approach, is based on autonomy, structure-determinism, attribution of meaning and constructivism. These ecosystemic principles were used in this study to reconceptualize problems associated with prisoners, problems previously approached in a Newtonian way. This new conceptualization was practically illustrated in the psychotherapeutic process with prisoners. In this process autonomy of the prisoner, therapist and the prison system was promoted. This conceptualization present a scientifically justified basis for thinking about correctional systems. / Psychology / M.A. (Sielkunde)

A Case Study of a Business Process Modeling in Mobile ERP System

Broomé Clason, Agnes, Holmberg, Maria January 2019 (has links)
The development in information systems has led to an increasing number ofbusinesses wishing to digitize their work processes. The growing mobile use ofEnterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on devices such as smartphones andtablets has led businesses to place greater demands on their information systems andsuppliers of these. ERP system in the future must be able to function mobile andfacilitate the work for the employees instead of being another IT system that will solvethe organisation's all challenges. This case study was made at a wholesale company in Skåne, which was in the midstof an ERP implementation with Microsoft Dynamics. This study has investigated howthe work with business processes looked before and during the implementation of thenew system. The background to the case study was to investigate whether there wereany correlation between how well the business processes were evaluated, adapted andhow successful the business's ERP implementation was. The case study aims toinvestigate how process modeling and Business Process Management (BPM) cansupport this kind of implementation of mobile ERP systems. The activity in the study is a mediumsizedsales and distribution company withoffices in 4 Swedish locations. In 2015, the business began digitizing the entireorganization. The IT system consisted of several different systems that had beenadapted over time to fit the needs of the organisation. As part of the implementation, they chose to use a Business Process Modeling tool to introduce the system and trainthe users of the processes in the new system. The implementation phase of the projectbegan in February 2017 and in February 2019 the business still has not set a Golivedate. The average time for an ERP implementation is 17.4 months [5]. Since theGolivedate business has been moved, it is now considered that the operation'simplementation is delayed and over the average time. The work on the processes before the actual start of the project is perceived asinadequate from BPM, the conclusion is drawn that the delay of the "Go live date" ispartly due to the fact that the company and the organization have not analyzed theirown processes and have relied too much on the consulting company and RapidValueBPM to handle learning and implementation.

Quishing i Sikte:Försvarsstrategier och Verktyg : -En Studie om medarbetares Medvetenhet om QR-kod Phishing och En Undersökning av Anti-Phishing-Verktyg

Ivarsson, Anton, Stefanescu, Adrian January 2024 (has links)
This study explores the rising trend of quishing (QR code phishing) in the context of the increased use of QR codes during the COVID-19 pandemic. QR codes, which facilitate contactless interactions, have become more prevalent and are increasingly exploited in malicious phishing attacks targeting companies and their employees. In 2023, a significant surge of over 2,400 percent was observed in a major quishing campaign. The research reviews previous studies on quishing and underscores the necessity of raising employee awareness and implementing effective protective measures. A key component of the study involves a survey and an Attack Simulation Training (AST) conducted in partnership with a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). The objective is to assess employees' awareness of quishing, their responses, and the factors influencing their behavior. Additionally, the study includes an experiment to evaluate how effectively Microsoft Defender for Office (MDO) and other security solutions detect embedded QR codes in various image formats and animations in emails. The findings from the survey and AST provide valuable insights into how companies and employees respond to different types of phishing attacks. Based on these insights, recommendations for improvements, tools, and policies can be developed and tailored to the current threat landscape. The study aims to enhance the overall understanding of quishing and promote a stronger security culture within corporate environments.

Amaya Echeverría, Bruno Andrés January 2016 (has links)

L'utilisation européenne des prisons ouvertes : l'exemple de la France / The use of open insitutions in Europe : the exemple of France

Gontard, Paul-Roger 13 December 2013 (has links)
Their characteristics and strengths were identified in 1955 by the young United-nations, when was also encouraged their use. Despite this support, open prisons are not found everywhere the same penological space, as the French low rate of utilization illustrated well. In addition, the ultra-minority of French open prisons and their criteria of employment figure as an exception, in comparison with the other European countries witch use this model. However, the reform of the enforcement sentences system recently intervened in the hexagon could lead to a reconsideration of their use. So this research proposes to locate these facilities in new inflections that affect the European and French penology, while considering the role that could be led to find different versions of the open institution model
