[en] ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC PROCESSING DEMANDS RELATED TO TEXTS AND QUESTIONS IN SAERJINHO S PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE TESTS / [pt] ANÁLISE DAS DEMANDAS DE PROCESSAMENTO ASSOCIADAS A TEXTOS E ENUNCIADOS DE PROVAS DE LÍNGUA PORTUGUESA DO SAERJINHO

PATRICIA CONCEICAO RIBEIRO ARTEIRO ANNECHINE MARCAL 15 January 2015 (has links)
[en] This thesis is aimed at investigating the processing demands related to taking the SAERJinho s Portuguese Language Tests (the Education Evaluation System of the State of Rio de Janeiro), by focusing, in particular, on textual-linguistic factors involved in reading the statements of the mentioned tests. In the literature review, we present the theoretical framework for reading processing, its cognitive and metacognitive aspects, as well as the concepts of readability and intelligibility. Due to the semiotic multiplicity that characterizes the texts of the tests analyzed, the concepts of multi-modality and multi-literacy are considered. Additionally, we present the literature regarding text genres, focusing on the identification of the most recurrent genres in the tests examined. A brief characterization of the types of multiple choice questions used in objective tests is also established, bearing in mind that metacognitive aspects associated with the resolution of these types of question may affect students performance on the tests. In order to understand the criteria involved in test preparation, we consider the Brazilian National Curriculum Parameters for the Secondary Education, which are the reference basis of the Reference Matrix used in the preparation of the SAERJinho. Before showing the analyses, the SAERJinho is introduced. In the methodology chapter, the research corpus is shown, as well as the tool used to verify the readability level of the texts (Coh-Metrix-Port) and the Flesch reading score associated with each text. Then, we analyze the text genres, the types of multiple choice questions and also the skills and the specific topics covered in the questions. Research results show that it is necessary to re-evaluate the criteria involved in the elaboration of the tests and they also point out that high school students should urgently develop their reading proficiency (such as, for example, inferring implicit information in a text, identifying the text s topic and the purpose of texts of different genres) and, consequently, achieve good results in the evaluations.

Larsson, Teodor, Stegå, Carin January 2019 (has links)
This essay is about how thinking skills are requested in examinations in the course religion 1 in Swedish upper secondary schools. To investigate this an analysis template has been created which is constructed from Göran Svanelids theory the big five, who explains which abilities the Swedish curriculum demands. The main question for this study is How clear and to what extent are the abilities who Göran Svanelids theory the big five points out in exams within the course religion 1? To answer this, three support questions has been made. The First is about how these abilities change between the program they are used. The second one is how the form of examination affects the possibilities to show the abilities and lastly how the kind of question affects the possibility to show the abilities. The analysis template and theory derive from the Swedish curriculum and the lecturer Göran Svaneldis analysis of the curriculum. He found five thinking skills or abilities which all subjects value and who the pupils are supposed to learn. These are; concept skills, the skill to analyse, communicative skills, the ability to perform a procedure and metacognition. These abilities have been operationalized to become a theory to inspect how well and to what extent they are asked for in an examination. Therefore, this study is based on text interpretation of the examinations, with an aim of being both qualitative and quantitative. Out of the total amount of 106 emails sent to principals, teachers and administrative personnel at upper secondary school’s total of 38 examinations were collected1. 14 out of these were written tests, 16 were written essays and eight were oral examinations. The result displays that all examinations ask for the abilities but not all types of questions in the examinations ask for all abilities. The closed type of question only gives the opportunity to show concept skills. The concept skill is the most visible ability in all exams, the secondly most visible skill is the communicative skill, thirdly the analysis skill, fourthly is the skill of procedure and fifth and lastly, the metacognitive skill. The conclusion is that programs who aim to ensue further studies ask for all abilities to a larger extent and with a higher level of clarity. While the vocational program who aim to ensure a working career after upper secondary school ask for the abilities with a lesser clarity. Written essays are the best form of examination to ask for the abilities to a larger extent and with a higher clarity than oral examinations or written tests.

Meningsfull kunskap : en intervjustudie med utgångspunkt i det individuella programmet på en gymnasiesärskola / Meaningful knowledge : an interview study based on the individual program of a special needs upper secondary school

Sundell, Martin January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to study and contribute with new insights about what is meaningful knowledge for the students who study the individual program on a special needs upper secondary school. The reason I want to investigate this is that I, in my work within this school form, almost daily meet a dilemma in the question about what´s the most important for the specific student to learn to get the best possibilities in their future adult life. The control documents regarding the special needs upper secondary school gives great opportunities to individual adjustments, concerning both support and learning and thereby the interpretation space is large. Therefore, I want to investigate the opinions of teachers and students, amongst others, about what is meaningful knowledge for the students to bring along into the adult life. To find answers to my questions I have used a phenomenologically inspired method including qualitative, semi-structured interviews. In the analysis of the results of the interviews I have applied theories about SOC together with duty ethics and impact ethics to help me illuminate and get perspectives on the empirical. The main results of the study indicate that meaningful knowledge for the students of the concerned special needs upper secondary school depend on the student’s future needs regarding adult life and future pursuits. Consequently, it is important to have an understanding on what the adult life and future pursuits of the specific student may consist of. Since the main part of the students, after leaving secondary school, continues in daily activities it also appears important to work with abilities linked to this kind of employment. Therefore, there is also a clear picture of the fact that the cooperation between school and daily activities would need to be strengthened, for instance to create consensus about what knowledges are relevant to the individual student regarding potential future pursuits.

Aquisição de perguntas-QU em português brasileiro em crianças com distúrbio específico de linguagem e em crianças com desenvolvimento típico / Acquisition of WH-questions in Brazilian Portuguese by children with specific language impairment and by typically developing children

Valezi, Maria de Lourdes Servilheira 11 May 2016 (has links)
The present study investigates the behavior of children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) when producing the complex syntactic structure of Long Distance WH- Question and compares it to the production of the same structure by Typically Developing children (TD) at the age of language acquisition in Brazilian Portuguese. Data was taken from 2 groups of children (TD and SLI) aged from 5 to 11 years old. The elicitation method, implemented by Thornton (1990), was used for the experiment. 16 WH-questions were elicited from each child, i.e., 8 with object extraction (4 WH-bare and 4 WHICH+N) and 8 with subject extraction (4 WH-bare and 4 WHICH+N). Data obtained from the 2 groups showed that TD children as well as the SLI group master the complex WH-questions at the age of 5, however, SLI children produced this syntactic structure less frequently (36,65%) than the TD group (89,70%). SLI children certainly faced difficulties in producing it. However, this group of children produced WH-questions with object extraction (55,55%) as frequently as the production of the WH-questions with subject extraction (44,44%). Data analysis suggests that SLI children are able to deal with both syntactic structures (subject and object WH-questions) the same way. SLI children did not produce WH- in situ (a syntactic structure licensed in Brazilian Portuguese).
