Sending the best agent to the most fitting mission is fundamental for any company. To guarantee that this is done efficiently, Fasbros IT have created the ARUBA service that ranks a group of agents based on their respective traveltimes to a mission. This was done by the means of existing Google Maps and GraphHopper API:s. ARUBA operates as a back-end service that communicates with a separate interface that sends and receives information from it in form of JSON-objects. A mission and a list of agents are received and a ranked list of the agents based on their traveltimes to the mission is the output of ARUBA. The service is able to handle thousands of agents and is robust in the sense that it is able to switch between API:s in order to keep running in case one of the them isn’t responding. The code is thoroughly documented and stands on a solid base that is easily developable by the stakeholder. It is easy to increase the amount of API:s that are used and still maintain the robust ability of the system. ARUBA was created in order to prove to the stakeholder that their current system could be improved in its functionality, efficiency and precision.

Perceptions On The Social Status Of Papiamentu In Contrast To Its Offical Significance In Aruba And CuracaoWiel, Keisha 01 January 2010 (has links)
Many creole languages have been studied by linguists and anthropologists alike in order to gain a better understanding as to their formations and social status within their respective cultures. Theories such as the Language Bioprogram hypothesis created by Derek Bickerton researched explicitly the genesis of creoles, primarily the creoles in Guyana and Hawaii. Although many creole languages are the main vernaculars of many cultures, they are often seen as having a lower status than the official language, usually a European language. Papiamentu, a language spoken in Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, has carried a prestige that many other creoles do not possess; it is spoken by everyone on the islands. There are no class divides that determine what, when, and where the language can be used. It is accepted by the majority on the islands and has gained the status as an official language in March 2003 in Aruba and in March 2007 in Curacao and Bonaire. Although it encompasses this status, Papiamentu is still not accepted in every faction on the islands. It is not the language of instruction in the educational system and official government documentation is still written in Dutch. This research explored the issues of Papiamentu's social status on the islands and has correlated it to its use in several sectors in Aruba and Curacao. Primary research was carried in Aruba and Curacao for six weeks. Interviews along with participant-observation tackled issues such as Papiamentu's presence in education, how Papiamentu was used during childhood, Papiamentu in relation to other languages on the islands, and the use of Papiamentu within the media. This research was executed to acquire a better insight into the perceptions of Papiamentuss social status and whether these perspectives have a profound effect on its usage.

Although it is not traditionally considered part of the “Spanish-speaking world,” Aruba has a significant population of Spanish-speakers due to both tourism and immigration from Latin America. Recognizing the significant presence of Spanish in Aruba, this investigation will focus on contact between Spanish and Papiamento, an Iberian-lexified Creole language that is both one of the two official languages of the country—the other one is Dutch—and the primary language of the local Aruban population. This dissertation has two main goals: (1) to identify the contact features of Aruban Spanish transferred from Papiamento along with the linguistic and non-linguistic factors (tourism, education) that condition their appearance and, (2) to contextualize Aruban Spanish in the broader Caribbean context issues of identity in Aruba. Several methodological strategies were utilized to carry out this research. Six linguistic features were studied and analyzed in the Spanish spoken by Arubans: two phonological features (/r/ and word-final -/s/) and four morphosyntactic features (the pluralization in the noun phrase and past tense, subjunctive mood and aspect in the verb phrase). Through sociolinguistic-style interviews and additional elicitation tools such as the reading of a short text and a word list, a translation activity, a grammatical judgement test and a sentence completion activity, data from 14 participants were collected, transcribed and analyzed. Although the research uses techniques and strategies employed in variationist sociolinguistics, the research questions that guide this project deviate from the statistical analysis that structure Labovian sociolinguistic research. The frequency-based analysis used in this dissertation determined that the realization of the studied features, except for the past tense, exhibit patterns that diverge from those of other Caribbean Spanish varieties. Social factors such as the frequency of Spanish use, occupation in or outside of tourism, context of language acquisition, level of education and gender presented varying effects in the favoring of Papiamento transfer in the Spanish spoken Aruba. Overall, a reduced frequency of Spanish use, occupations in fields with little to no contact with Spanish-speakers, limited exposure to authentic Spanish during acquisition, an increased exposure to the norms of standard Spanish through education and female gender favored increased realizations of Papiamento transfer in the Spanish of the Aruban participants. This dissertation concludes that linguistic transfer from Papiamento contributes to differentiating Aruban Spanish from other varieties spoken in the Caribbean. In Aruba, Spanish is not an official language, and the country’s social history is distinct from the colonial legacy of other Spanish-speaking Caribbean countries. Thus, Spanish becomes a tool of constructing a divergent identity, unique from that of individuals from other Spanish-speaking Caribbean nations. / Spanish

Chefers hantering av fenomenet job hopping : En kvalitativ studie om hur chefer hanterar job hopping samt säkerställandet av organisationens kompetens / Managers’ handling of the phenomenon of job hopping : A qualitative study on how managers handle job hopping and ensuring the organization’s competenceBlom, Edvin, Hansemark, Louise January 2023 (has links)
Background: The labor market has changed and the majority of personnel turnover that occurs today is so-called voluntary turnover. These frequent and voluntary job changes have become known as the concept of job hopping, resulting in managers having to deal with the consequences of high staff turnover. A high staff turnover leads further to the subject of competence supply, which becomes a decisive part for the continued functioning of the organization. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate how managers handle the phenomenon of job hopping. The study will focus on the organization being able to ensure that the right competence exists and is competitive. Method: The study has been applied with a qualitative method where semi-structured interviews were conducted to answer the question. The essay is based on a thematic analysis method where quotes from the respondents were chosen as codes to identify themes. The empirical evidence has then been compiled through the interviews. Empirics: In the empirics, the respondents' answers are presented based on the interviews conducted, where they are compiled by the authors in the form of quotes and shorter summaries. In the concluding part of the empirical work, a shorter summary of the empirical section is compiled. Analysis discussion and Conclusion: The empirical evidence has then been processed in the essay's analysis discussion, where it is set against the theoretical frame of reference. The conclusion highlights how managers handle job hopping and how they are affected or not, and then leads to answering the question. Furthermore, suggestions are given for further research to further study the subject.

A study of the occupational self-image of service employees employed in restaurants in ArubaDania, Ellis Emilio 01 January 1979 (has links)
One reason for the restaurant industry's myriad personnel problems is implicit in the paucity of research dealing with food service personnel# A number of studies suggest that the physical and psychological needs of the food service worker are grossly neglected.
This is a study to provide current data descriptive of the occupational self-image of service personnel employed in restaurants in Aruba, and provide a beginning exploration of selected components of their occupational self-images.
The design was formulated to answer three broad questions: (l) What are the characteristics of self-image of service personnel employed in restaurants in Aruba? (2) Is the occupational self-image of these employees positive or negative?, and (3) What are the possible implications of the characteristics of these restaurant service personnel?
One hundred and sixty-five employees were interviewed covering the two restaurant categories: the free standing and the restaurants that are part of hotel operations. The questionnaire utized contained six instruments designed to describe or measure selected aspects of the occupational self-image of these restaurant employees. A Likert-type scale was constructed to measure the restaurant service personnel over-all occupational self-image. This scale was then utilized to explore the relationship between each of the components of the occupational self-image and its association with more positive and more negative occupational self-images.
The over-all occupational self-images of the restaurant service personnel were found to be quite positive. This finding is supported by previous empirical investigations. The findings contradict the impression gained from simplistic and often erroneous "hear-say ". The occupational self-image appears to be a complex concept which summarizes a variety of attitudes and cannot be inferred or measured on the basis of one aspect of an occupation.

The anonymous company is an IT company that performs IT services according to customer needs. They got an internet provider as a customer about a couple of months ago. They manage the configuration of the ISP's routers and switches, which are then sent to the ISP's corporate customers. The work involves upgrading operating systems on routers and switches as well as adding files and then sending the product to the ISP’s end customer. Files and operating systems differ depending on the type of router and switch to be upgraded. The working method today is inefficient and there can be some errors when working with USB memory sticks today. The goal of this work is to improve and make their operation more effective by storing all files on a TFTP server instead of on USB storage. A script will be created with the language VB script that automates the configuration of routers and switches. The terminal for communicating with the router/switch is SecureCrt. Staff at the company have said that it takes on average about 15 minutes to manually configure a router. You only configure one at a time due to quality assurance and you have to sit in front of the screen throughout the process when configuring manually. The result of my work led to an efficiency improvement. The time it takes to configure a router ends at the same time, about 15 minutes, however, you can run several units simultaneously but because of lack of space, they can run a maximum of two at a time, while not having to sit in front of the screen as the script handles all configuration. It also led to lesser errors as you do not have to look for the correct USB memory for the corresponding device.

Aruba and Natalee Holloway: A Content Analysis of Four Years of Newspaper Coverage Surrounding the Incident.Parks, Brittany 09 May 2009 (has links)
Negative media coverage can have a significant impact on the image of a country and can be detrimental to tourism-dependent areas. This study examined the newspaper coverage of Aruba 2 years before and after American tourist Natalee Holloway disappeared while vacationing with fellow classmates on a class trip. A content analysis of 400 major world newspapers was conducted. The study's purpose was to uncover the amount of publicity (both good and bad) from the incident as well as to unearth the overall tone towards Aruba.
The study revealed the Holloway incident did have a visible effect on the world news coverage of Aruba, although the scope of the effect seems relatively small. Overall, mentions of Aruba in major world newspapers became more prominent, more negative, and more frequent after the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
