No. of bitstreams: 1 Vania Grim Thies_Tese.pdf: 10034266 bytes, checksum: 6aaa1e8cf0ec564bbc50abdf4154d9f3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-03-04 / This study analyzes the diaries written by three farmer brothers and how their lives have been aesthetically engaged in the act of writing in a rural routine. Its main theoretical-methodological reference was the Bakhtin Circle, besides other authors studies which have been based on the Bakhtinian theory. This dissertation is supported by the presuppositions regarding the aesthetic and responsible act which may enable interaction between two worlds: the world of life and the world of theory. Therefore, the diaries were problematized as an aesthetic and responsible act with which the farmers developed interaction between both worlds in their daily routines. Twenty one diaries written by three Schmidt brothers in different moments of their lives, from 1972 to 2007, were analyzed. Aldo started his writings in 1972, got married in 1976 and has kept writing his diaries with his new family so far whereas Clemer was asked - by his father - to carry out the family s collective writings; thus, it was a family s diary, rather than a personal diary like Aldo s. Clemer only wrote while he was single and lived in his father s home. He got married in 1979, moved in with his new family and stopped writing but left the diaries in his father s home so that his brothers could go on writing. Unlike his brothers, Clenderci started writing his diary after getting married in 1983 and kept writing until 1992. This dissertation shows that there is interaction between the world of theory and the world of life through the unique and responsible act of diary writing. Each brother s ownership shows how similar the compositional forms of the diary organization are; however, they are different regarding their architectural aspects. Each author has his own architectural project, writes down everyday utterances in agreement with his axiological position, registers facts in his own way, organizes them aesthetically according to his authorcreator, and, consequently, produces different senses in his writing. Therefore, the aesthetics of life is existence itself: the existence of the authors-creators Aldo, Clemer and Clenderci in the act of writing their diaries which represent the succession of acts they go through in their rural lives.

Bakken, Arild Michel 02 October 2015 (has links)
In his doctoral thesis La présence de Mallarmé, Arild Michel Bakken investigates Mallarmé’s presence in his work. Against the common view of Mallarmé as the poet of absence, Bakken shows that the figure of the poet is very present in the text, and that this figure is in fact what gives the work its unity. Through a rhetorical method focused on the reader’s experience, Bakken shows how Mallarmé stages himself throughout the work. The figure of the author is anchored in the society of his time, as a Frenchman, as a petit-bourgeois, as a father and a husband. It is clearly a poet figure, but also an “homme de lettres” and a journalist. The thesis also shows that the reader can follow the inner life of the figure, as a seer and as a thinker. Even in the most impersonal texts, the author is not absent, but adopts the posture of the mysterious “Figure that No One is”, representing the essence of human subjectivity. Through the staging of his figure in the work, Mallarmé seeks to seduce the reader, to obtain “glory”, to give his work value. It is also an effective instrument for transmitting the poet’s values, his world view. But the world view which appears in Mallarmé’s work is constantly undermined by the poet’s irony, which is the most characteristic feature of his presence.

Visual Analysis of Publication Networks

Maushagen, Jan January 2013 (has links)
This thesis documents the development of a web-application attacking the problem of visualization of co-authorship networks. The visualization encompasses several views. Each of them shows different aspects of the data which is loaded from Academic Archive Online (DiVa), a library system which holds all publications released in the Linnaeus University.  To detect relationships among authors, a new interactive layout for Node-Link Diagrams was developed which shows publications, authors and corresponding organizations (faculties, departments) in a radial manner. This Network-View is connected to another view showing the attributes (year, type) of the publications. In development, particular emphasis was placed on a rich support of user interaction in order to equip the user with a tool that allows graphical and explorative analysis of the underlying data.

PACTO NACIONAL PELO FORTALECIMENTO DO ENSINO MÉDIO E A INTEGRAÇÃO DAS TECNOLOGIAS DE INFORMAÇÃO E COMUNICAÇÃO / NATIONAL PACT FOR HIGH SCHOOL S STRENGTHENING AND INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

Quaresma, Cíndia Rosa Toniazzo 14 July 2015 (has links)
This study investigated the integration of the information and communication technologies TIC on high school curriculum, having as context the formation process of National Pact for High School‟s Strengthening (PNFEM). In order to contribute for the school practices innovation, were made teachers‟ technologies formation meetings to offer theoretical and practical subsidies for the integration of TIC on curriculum. In this context, the research conception was the action investigation and the dados were collected with observation sheets; research diary and questionnaire. Then, for the analyses were used the following categories: formation of PNFEM; integration of TIC at the pedagogical practices; innovative pedagogical strategies, tools, resources and/or network platforms. As results are pointed out: 1) the school practices innovation, from the integration of TIC; 2) authoring process of the teachers involved, through the class production for Teachers‟ Portal (MEC). The continuing education in the school environment as a PNFEM‟s pillar, was determinant to reach the results. As conclusions, stands out that the mediated proposals construction by TIC made emerge other ways of production beyond the classroom; and that some factors limit the integration of TIC, as the lack of a quality structure to a network access, mainly in classroom and the absence of a technical and pedagogical guideline to undertake pedagogical proposals which support the implementation of these.

[en] PLAYBOY: THE UNATTAINABLE AESTHETIC / [pt] PLAYBOY: A ESTÉTICA DO INATINGÍVEL

EDNEY CLEMENTE DE SOUZA 21 October 2010 (has links)
[en] The improvement of digital tools for the treatment of images provokes an increasing interference on the process of creation of editorial and advertising works. For this reason, it is possible to witness in photography a phenomenon we call pictorialisation. We mean by this word that nowadays we experience images in which it is becoming more and more difficult to discriminate elements belonging to the photography from those introduced afterwards. Such phenomenon has an aesthetic result, here defined as (aesthetic of the unattainable), that finds no correspondent in the real world. The purpose of the present work is to analyze the behavioral and social-cultural consequences of this specific form of representation of the world, as well as the authorial participation of the parts involved: the media industry as a productive structure, its workers and its spectators.

Statistické metody ve stylometrii / Statistical methods in stylometry

Dupal, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of some of the commonly used methods in the area of authorship attribution (stylometry). The text begins with a recap of history from the end of the 19th century to present time and the required terminology from the field of text mining is presented and explained. What follows is a list of selected methods from the field of multidimensional statistics (principal components analysis, cluster analysis) and machine learning (Support Vector Machines, Naive Bayes) and their application as pertains to stylometrical problems, including several methods created specifically for use in this field (bootstrap consensus tree, contrast analysis). Finally these same methods are applied to a practical problem of authorship verification based on a corpus bulit from the works of four internet writers.

What Does It Mean to Be a Service-Learning Teacher? - An Autoethnography

Verdi, Kristy Causey 27 March 2017 (has links)
This personal narrative autoethnography of my lived experiences as a middle-school service-learning course teacher has helped me solve a personal mystery and present an important perspective for the K-12 service-learning field. With an eye on revealing a unique service-learning classroom concept to educational leaders, enhancing middle level teacher education, and hopes of providing greater opportunities for advancing research on service learning in K-12 education, this study has also aided me in understanding my professional self and my subjective educational theory through a personal interpretive framework (Kelchtermans, 1993, 1999, 2009). Using autoethnography (Ellis, 2004; Ellis & Bochner, 2006) as a method to explore my own experiences as a middle school service-learning teacher and the perceptions of critical friends— colleagues, family members, and friends—who have been significant in my experiences, I am able to present an evocative personal narrative on what it means to be a service-learning teacher. Overarching findings from this study reveal that a middle grades service-learning teacher is a self-authored individual (Baxter Magolda, 1999, 2009; Kegan, 1994) who is committed to community-engaged education (Dewey, 1900, 1933), possesses a strong “I must” (Noddings, 2002b, p. 20) perspective on relational care, and are for development in servant leadership (Greenleaf, 1977; Sergiovanni, 1992; Bowman, 2005)

A signification in stone : the lapis as a metaphor for visual hybridisation in the Harry Potter films

Geldenhuys, Vincent Marcel 13 November 2008 (has links)
This study considers the visual representation of the alchemical idea of the philosopher’s stone (lapis philosophorum) in the Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Columbus 2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Columbus 2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Cuaron 2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Newell 2005), andHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Yates 2007). The lapis philosophorum was believed to turn base metals into gold and produce an Elixir of Life. As such, it is envisioned as the ultimate alchemical idea, and this study emphasises how the lapis can function as a signifier for an alchemical worldview within the Harry Potter films. Because the concept and symbolism of the Harry Potter films is largely based on JK Rowling’s (1997; 1998; 1999; 2000; 2003; 2005; 2007) original novels, this study provides a detailed comparison of how alchemical imagery is used in the novels and contrasts this with the visual imagery of the films. This study undertakes a hermeneutic analysis of the transmission of alchemical ideals from the literary to the visual medium. It also provides a detailed analysis of interrelated visual icons in the Harry Potter films that represent the idea of the lapis as an embodiment of alchemical perfection. In addition, by studying the interplay between alchemical imagery in the Harry Potter novels and films, and comparing the worldviews represented by each, this study is able to analyse the dynamics of the hermeneutic process. This study concludes with a consideration of how alchemical theory relates to the discipline of hermeneutics, how it influences the process of interpretation, and ultimately the relationship between the alchemical worldview and current perspectives on authorship. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Visual Arts / unrestricted

Gender Bias and the Evaluation of Players: Voice and Gender in Narrated Gameplay Videos

Crowell, Robin April 29 August 2016 (has links)
This study evaluates perception differences of male and female narrators in video game tutorials. Video games have long been considered a masculine pursuit, and because of this, women have endured unpleasant surroundings and interactions in gaming and related communities. With the proliferation of technologies like Twitch and YouTube gaming, gaming is more communicative than ever, increasing potential for problematic interactions. Recent booms in these technologies emphasize the importance of understanding how varying demographics are perceived, as these perceptions influence interactions, potentially limiting the likelihood of women and others' involvement and interest. Involvement in technology during youth is associated with interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers--all fields with disparities in women's employment. Measures included confidence, credibility, performance, trustworthiness, and leadership ability to better understand how the integration of communicative technologies into gaming influences perceptions based on cues--in this case, specifically voice. Male narrators were hypothesized to be evaluated as more confident and credible than female narrators overall, while performance, trustworthiness, and leadership evaluations were hypothesized to be moderated by one's own gender identity. No significant differences emerged, which suggests a positive change in climate for female gamers and leaders in the industry.

Tommy Wieringa jakožto autor (pro) 21. století: spisovatel uvnitř a vně literárního provozu / Tommy Wieringa as a 21st century author: the writer within and outside the publishing sphere

Vítek, Lukáš January 2017 (has links)
(English) The aim of this master thesis is to analyse the fiction of Tommy Wieringa, specifically in relation to the concept of the posture developed by Jérôme Meizoz. The distinction between the internal posture and the external posture is essential in this theory. Therefore, there can arise a tension between both images of the author (i.e., in the terminology of Daniël Rovers, between auteursfiguur and figuurauteur). This thesis is based on the question if this statement is valid in case of the work of Wieringa. Keywords: Wieringa, author's posture, author's image, literary identity, self-fashioning, authorship, the literary field
