De Ira de Sêneca: tradução, introdução e notas / On Senecas wrath: translation, introduction and notes

Ricardo Antonio Fidelis de Lima 26 November 2015 (has links)
O nosso trabalho consiste na tradução e no estudo do De Ira do filósofo estoico e político romano Lucio Anêu Sêneca. / Our dissertation consists in the translation and study of De Ira from the Stoic philosopher and Roman politician Lucious Annaeus Seneca. The book is addressed to his brother Novato who supposedly inquires him how to restrain this passion. Thus, in three books, the philosopher presents the genesis of that passion and the evils caused by it to finally introduce ways to extirpate it from the soul. The defense of the Stoicism\'s teachings explicitly echoes in several examples given by the philosopher when contrasted with other philosophical schools of the time. So wrath is treated as the most damaging passion among all human passions.

Agostinho e os maniqueus: análise a partir \'das duas almas\' / Augustine and the manichaeans: analysis from \"two souls\"

Daniel Fujisaka 27 June 2014 (has links)
Reintroduzse a questão das duas almas no plano geral da filosofia do bispo, em registro notoriamente distinto: interioridade e confissão / The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how Augustine reappoints the Manichaean issue of \"two souls\" to the field of human interiority, as associate life and soul as goods perceived by the intellect and therefore irreducibly real (cogito). Thus, the soul can judge the value of natures and organize them internally according to each way of perception of soul: sensible or intelligible. In the first part, we seek to understand the question through the analysis of third book of the Confessions, paragraphs 1.1 to 6.12. We proceed in double interest, interrelating two notions of sin: 1) The nature of being or not beingdefectus of individual will- and 2) as misery -heritage impotence deja lá in order to aim possibilities of assimilation and refusal of the Manichaean gnosis. In addition, we explore how Augustine faces the problem of the existence of evil soul in analysis of the treatise of 392, About the Two Souls (De duabus animabus) - second part of our work. In this work, the Hipponate seeks to demolish all gnose through doctrine of two souls. Thus, the soul is the first consideration -cogito: being, life and intellection comprenhended only by the intellect- by which intuitive definitions of will and sin are allowed. After discovering the absolute indeterminacy of the will as the only element of human mobile, Augustine proceed to adapt the theory of \"parts of the soul\", according to the Neoplatonic tradition, and sharply modify the role of intellectual part of the soul- in context of his own experience of fallibility. At the end, the effort to recognize the soul as ontologically non-corporeal and undivided moment in which sin is 10 defined as denial of being (defectus) - should also consider the original and supra-individual cleavage: \"an involuntary installed within the volunteer\". It was reintroduced the question of two souls\" in the philosophy of the bishop in distinguished register: interiority and confession

The inner state of an actor, as well as the origins of the actor's art has been subject of discussions by directors and researchers in the field of theatre studies for more than a century. The cultural diversity and the development of science allowed researches in the field of psciology. Carl Gustav Jung dedicated his life to study the human soul, through dreams, myths and symbols of human culture. In his theory, the human soul has characteristics, which develops an individual process, allowig the inherents personality aspects of a person to develop. James Hillman developed jung's ideas in what is called archetipical psicology. This field of studies understand that the interweaving between psicology, arts, culture and philosophy is important to understand human kind as a whole. Hillman demonstrates the relationship between soul and death and believes that the jung's individual process can be understood as a way to create the soul. This dissertation intends to get hllman's concept and extend it to theatre studies in order to discuss the inner state of the actor and the relationship of the actor with the scene that is created. / Mestrado / Artes / Mestre em Artes

Design of a receiver at 31-45 ghz based on HEMT amplifiers and Schottky mixers

Reyes Guzmán, Nicolás Andrés January 2013 (has links)
Doctor en Ingeniería Eléctrica / The Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) is an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. It consists of an array of 66 antennas designed to work as an interferometer in the millimetric and sub-millimetric range (from 30 to 950 GHz). It is located at 5000 meters altitude in the Chajnantor Plateau, north of Chile. It will start full scienti c operations by 2014 being the most important instrument for radio-astronomy in the world. Presently with 36 antennas, it is already delivering transformational science data, providing astronomers with unprecedented sensitivity and quality images of the "radio-universe" with a resolution comparable with the Huble telescope. The lowest spectroscopic band envisioned for ALMA, the so-called Band 1, covers the frequency range from 31 to 45 GHz. This band was not implemented during the rst construction phase of the telescope, but has been recently (2012) included for the second development phase of the project, including the indication of extending the frequency coverage up to 50 GHz. In the context of this thesis we have developed technological solutions to cover this band, especially focused on the development of low-noise ampli ers using High Electron Mobility transistors (HEMT). Among the most burdensome challenges of ALMA Band 1 are the stringent speci cations on noise temperature, the large required bandwidth, and the limited space available for this receiver within the ALMA cryostat. In this work we present an overview of the scienti c importance of Band 1, along with the technological solutions we have developed, including the design of key components, like the horn, lens, ortho-mode transducer, and low noise ampli ers. We also present an evaluation of third-party components which can be used in the receiver. The work is used to present a preliminary layout of the Band-1 receiver which was implemented and tested in order to be used as technological demonstrator for a fully operational receiver.

Raschietti, Matteo 12 July 2004 (has links)

The ground of soul (Grund der Seele, in german) is one of the several expressions that, in Eckhart¿s thought, points to, first of all, the deepest and truthfull reality of the human being. He¿s the man being as man, the universal man, the human nature. But, as he is a being, and for the reason that ¿esse est deus¿ (the being is God), is also the being of God into the man, and of the man in God ¿ therefore, the end of being alterity. In the ground of soul there are neither representations, nor ways, but only God: He¿s not the God determined, however, but the ¿Deus sine modis¿ (God without ways), the Divinitas (Gottheit, Divinity) that is the true God, the One that¿s above all contradictions. This presence of God is the generation into the man, by the man and by God, of logos, the Son (Gottesgeburt, God¿s borning). The theme of generation is developed from the trinity reflexion, but extend itself over the dogma. In order to show the stages of Master Eckhart¿s rational journey and understand the meaning of the logos¿ eternal generation, this dissertation analyses four fundamental questions of Eckhart¿s thought, starting from the poem Granum sinapsis, which condenses the main issues of his philosophical and theological speculation: the concept of one and being, the concept of soul, the issue of time, the birth of logos in the ground of soul. Eckhart¿s message reveals the urgency to restore the balance and the rhythm of life between exteriority and interiority, unity and multiplicity, with the need to rediscover the richness hidden in the ground of soul, to transform human relationships that can only be saved through the inner renovation of the individual / Mestrado / Mestre em Filosofia

Abstract: To analyze the music in Plato can be seem a complex or even a difficult task. But is not the music, by defmition, that what escapes the rational speech? Although, for the athenian mas ter, clearly, is a music that is heard and another that it is not heard: the meditation on this no sonority music is to philosophize, the highest degree of the musical conception, as he stress in his Dialogue (Phéd. 60e 61a) - this harmony concept that transports us to a pitagórical harmony is the harmony of the music that absorbs the harmony of the soul and of the universe. However, the music for Plato won't stay as a paradigm of the existent contradiction in his own reflection, when he suggest, between the lines, the possibility that the music - the Art of the Muses, the "supreme music "teached by the Socratic daimon can function as a melaxú (metax?) among the logos (l?go?) and the aísthesis (aisthsiz), between the real and the appearances? / Doutorado / Doutor em Filosofia

Dynamics of gas and dust in protoplanetary disks: planet formation from observational and numerical perspectives

Bi, Jiaqing 21 December 2020 (has links)
Dust and gas in protoplanetary disks are the building blocks of planets. In this thesis, we study the dynamics of the gas and dust, which are crucial for the planet formation theory, using observational and numerical approaches. The observational part contains the case study of a rare circumtriple disk around the GW Ori hierarchical triple system. We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of 1.3 mm dust continuum and 12CO J = 2-1 molecular gas emission of the disk. For the first time, we identify three dust rings in the GW Ori disk at ~46, 188, and 338 au, with the outermost ring being the largest dust ring ever found in protoplanetary disks. We use visibility modeling of the dust continuum and kinematics modeling of CO lines to show that the disk has misaligned parts, and the innermost dust ring is eccentric. We interpret these substructures as evidence of ongoing dynamical interactions between the triple stars and the circumtriple disk. In the numerical part, we study whether or not dust around gas gaps opened by planets can remain settled by performing three-dimensional, dust-plus-gas simulations of protoplanetary disks with an embedded planet. We find planets that open gas gaps 'puff up' small, sub-mm-sized grains at the gap edges, where the dust scale-height can reach 80% of the gas scale-height. We attribute this dust 'puff-up' to the planet-induced meridional gas flows previously identified by Fung and Chiang. We thus emphasize the importance of explicit 3D simulations to obtain the vertical distribution of sub-mm-sized grains around planet gaps. We caution that the gas-gap-opening planet interpretation of well-defined dust rings is only self-consistent with large grains exceeding mm in size. / Graduate

A-Z Database Discovery using Alma: Eliminate Redundancy and Simplify your Workflow

Clamon, Travis 16 June 2017 (has links)
Frustrated by having to maintain an A-Z databases list separately on our library website and in Alma/Primo, East Tennessee State University embarked on a goal to eliminate redundancy by using Alma as our primary source of metadata for eResources. This presentation will cover our entire workflow and the issues we encountered along the way. I'll first go over our process in Alma including MARC record creation, electronic collection setup, and the top level collection module. Next, I'll cover our workflow in Primo including normalization rules, scoping, and PNX display. The last section will cover the Alma API's and how they were used to sync our LibGuides A-Z list.

Assessment of weather conditions for ALMA observations of the Sun

Jakobsson, Daniel January 2020 (has links)
The closest star to Earth is the Sun. The difference between our Sun and other stars is that the dynamics are observable with telescopes. A complex and strange part of our Sun is the chromosphere which is a part of the solar atmosphere. The chromosphere is located between the corona and photosphere where the temperature increases very rapidly within a short distance. A wavelength suited for observing this region is millimetre wavelength. A millimetre observing radio telescope suited to be pointed at the Sun is Atacama Large millimetres/submillimeter Array (ALMA). ALMA is using smaller telescopes to synthesis a larger aperture by correlating the difference between antenna pairs. This technique is called interferometry. When sampling a larger telescope, the projected distance between the smaller telescopes determines the sampling points in Fourier space. When the distance between the antennas increases, they will experience different noise due to Earth's atmosphere. This difference in noise is because the signal travels a different path through the Earth's atmosphere. Different Precipitable Water Vapour (PWV) levels in this path play a major role in this disturbance[1]. To acquire further knowledge of how different seeing effects affect ALMA it is important to enhance the understanding of what could be expected from actual observation. Realistic simulated observations can be a useful tool to extend this knowledge and is investigated in this report. This is done with the CASA (Common Astronomy Software Applications) package and simalma and the simulator tool. The simulator tool gives the possibility to include phase noise from Earth's atmosphere. This noise is calculated with atmospheric transmission at microwaves model and the aatm library [2]. This phase noise is simulated as a fluctuating PWV screen over that array that blows at specific wind speed[3].  Traditionally only thermal noise has been implemented when simulating an observation with the CASA task simalma and simobserve. Initial results indicate a big difference between traditional thermal noise and phase noise. Phase noises generate a greatly increased error as a function of radius compared to a noise free simulated observation. This effect is enhanced for higher PWV levels. This behaviour is due to that the antennas are more sensitive in the centre. This tool shows great potential since more realistic simulations give the possibility to investigate different phenomena in a controlled environment. One could optimize the reconstruction algorithm for noisy observations and investigate how physical phenomena could be affected by different seeing effects. There are a large variety of cases where this type of simulation could be used. Optimization of PWV fluctuating for specific cadences should be done first. This is important because the atmosphere is expected to behave differently at a different cadence because of different movement and averaging. However, optimization and comparison for 1.1 s cadence is doable with data generated from cosmological observations with ALMA[1].
