Nesta dissertação, o filme Palavra e Utopia (2000), espécie de biografia do padre Antonio Vieira, será o centro norteador de um estudo da cinematografia de Manoel de Oliveira, baseado, principalmente, na questão do eterno retorno nietzschiano. Por meio desse conceito filosófico, procuraremos esclarecer a presença (e insistência) de alguns motivos privilegiados pelo cineasta português. Em especial, a temática da memória e a presença do sebastianismo. Conforme as necessidades da análise, abordaremos a biobibliografia de Antonio Vieira, procurando resgatar a tessitura de sua referencialização (direta ou indireta) neste e em outros filmes do cineasta. Com isso, esperamos contribuir para os estudos da obra de Oliveira, bem como esmiuçar a específica leitura que ele faz do texto e contexto do escritor seiscentista. A discussão girará em torno da construção do personagem fílmico Antonio Vieira, por meio do qual é possível acessar a leitura oliveiriana de algumas questões vieiristas. / In this dissertation, the movie Palavra e Utopia (2000), a sort of Father Antonio Vieiras biography, will be the guideline of a study of the Manoel de Oliveiras cinematography based, mainly, on the nietzschean eternal return issue. Following this philosophical concept, we will manage to clarify the assumption (and persistence) of a handful of evident motives brought by the portuguese film-maker. Essencially, we will research Antonio Vieiras bibliography, managing to retain his mentioning texture (directly or undirectly) on this or others films of this same film-maker. By doing so, we expect to contribute in the research of Manoel de Oliveiras work, such as to expose his objective reading of the text to the context of the seventeenth-century author. The discussion will revolve around the construction of filmic character Antonio Vieira, through which you can access oliveiriana reading of some issues vieiristas.

Ruína de um projeto histórico monumental, a História do Futuro do Padre Antônio Vieira (naquilo que temos dela) constitui-se como elenco de topoi históricos ordenados como narração em que o diverso temporal se revela semelhante em razão da operação teológica que institui sua participação analógica no Uno, premissa do discurso católico contrarreformista. Neste trabalho, analisamos o Livro Anteprimeiro dessa história, buscando os elementos constitutivos de um gênero de discurso que se afirma no lugar em que se entrecruzam ordens temporais e discursivas diversas, como prática de instauração de uma concordantia fundamental e como instrumento de justificação do poder político constituído como espelho e instrumento de uma doutrina em ação. / As remains of a monumental historical project, Antonio Vieiras História do Futuro (History of the Future) presents a series of historical topoi in a narrative order that reveals temporal diversity as a form of semblance. It results from a theological operation that lies at the core of the catholic discourse: the analogical participation of all creatures in God, which connects all beings and times, and its corresponding escathological conception of time. This work consists of an analysis of the principles of the rhetoric that articulates the Livro Anteprimeiro (Prologue Book) of that History, in order to identify the elements which characterize the historicity of its genre, and its relation to the political theology of the seventeenth century.

O padre Antônio Vieira é uma figura icônica do Barroco literário no Brasil do século XVII, visto por muitos como um dos grandes representantes da Companhia de Jesus. A presente tese busca contemplar um tema recorrente na historiografia jesuítica brasileira que trata do papel desempenhado pelos jesuítas na tentativa de construção de uma terrena cidade celeste segundo Neves, no novo mundo (Brasil colônia) e, particularmente, das práticas sociais (sobretudo, políticas, religiosas, ideológicas, jurídicas) do padre Antônio Vieira suas implicações e rupturas no Maranhão seiscentista sob o olhar do imaginário social. Através de três sermões proferidos no Maranhão, pretendemos analisar e dialogar sobre as imagens mais recorrentes na produção sermonística do Padre Antônio Vieira: como nosso objeto de pesquisa também é a produção imagética do sujeito Vieira, utilizamos como referencial teórico a noção ideológica de sujeito de Mikhail Bakhthin, as noções do Imaginário de Gilbert Durand e Gaston Bachelard, as teorias sobre o Imaginário Social jesuítico do antropólogo e pesquisador Luiz Felipe Baêta Neves e outros grandes teóricos, para nos ajudar a analisar essas imagens. Buscamos uma possível estrutura do imaginário social do padre Antônio Vieira durante sua presença no Maranhão a partir dos sermões analisados e levantamos os processos de ruptura e continuidade com os projetos do missionário e da Companhia de Jesus na formação da sociedade maranhense. / The priest Antonio Vieira is an iconic figure in the literary Baroque seventeenth- century in Brazil, seen by many as one of the major representatives of the Society of Jesus. This thesis seeks to contemplate a recurring theme in the Brazilian Jesuit historiography that focuses on the role played by the Jesuits in an attempt to build "a heavenly city on earth" (NEVES, 2003) in the new world (Brazil colony) and particularly of social practices (above all, political, religious, ideological, legal) of the priest Antonio Vieira - their implications and breaks in the seventeenth century Maranhão - under the gaze of the social imaginary. Through three sermons published with greater impact, in Maranhão seventeenth century, we aim to analyze and talk about the most recurrent images in the production sermons of the priest Antonio Vieira and because our object is to produce imagery of the "subject" Vieira also used as a theoretical notion of ideological "subject" of Mikhail Bakhthin, the notions of the Imaginary by Gilbert Durand and Gaston Bachelard, theories on the Social Imaginary Jesuit anthropologist and researcher Luiz Felipe Baêta Neves and other great theorists to help us to analyze these images. Search is a possible structure of the social imaginary of the priest Antonio Vieira during their presence in Maranhão from sermons and analyzed raises the processes of rupture and continuity with the mission and projects of the Society of Jesus in shaping society Maranhão.

O padre Antônio Vieira é uma figura icônica do Barroco literário no Brasil do século XVII, visto por muitos como um dos grandes representantes da Companhia de Jesus. A presente tese busca contemplar um tema recorrente na historiografia jesuítica brasileira que trata do papel desempenhado pelos jesuítas na tentativa de construção de uma terrena cidade celeste segundo Neves, no novo mundo (Brasil colônia) e, particularmente, das práticas sociais (sobretudo, políticas, religiosas, ideológicas, jurídicas) do padre Antônio Vieira suas implicações e rupturas no Maranhão seiscentista sob o olhar do imaginário social. Através de três sermões proferidos no Maranhão, pretendemos analisar e dialogar sobre as imagens mais recorrentes na produção sermonística do Padre Antônio Vieira: como nosso objeto de pesquisa também é a produção imagética do sujeito Vieira, utilizamos como referencial teórico a noção ideológica de sujeito de Mikhail Bakhthin, as noções do Imaginário de Gilbert Durand e Gaston Bachelard, as teorias sobre o Imaginário Social jesuítico do antropólogo e pesquisador Luiz Felipe Baêta Neves e outros grandes teóricos, para nos ajudar a analisar essas imagens. Nesse percurso analisamos, especialmente, os conceitos de cuidado de si e de livre-arbítrio. Não poderíamos deixar de estudar, ainda, as particularidades dos procedimentos das produções letradas do século XVII, fatores essenciais para a compreensão do lugar do eu que fala na elaboração dos sermões religiosos seiscentistas. Considering that the notion of subject is not transhistorical, we investigate formative elements of what is meant today by "me." It discusses the presence of oratory on the Western teaching since its Greek origins until the formation of the Ratio Studiorum in 17th-century. Brazilian society is defined as baroque and the rhetoric arises as element essential in the elaboration of the social imaginary speeches and, occupying as an essencial element in the elaboration of discursese and social imaginaries, occupying the centre of controversies, about questions like reason and the faith, ethics and the politics, the nature of the Indian and African peoples, even over the own construction of the modern subject. In this context the vieira?s preaching discharges the functions of kerigma (preaching), didach? (education) and politics (action). The research consisted in a finicky reading over five of these sermons that were returned in the presence of different audiences. The pulpit was the cathedra where Vieira used his sermons as a manner of social mobilization that aimed not only teaching a determined knowledge of reality, but altering cruel situations like Indian and poor people slavery in his epoch. Education by Vieira consist in a tension between utopian hopes and urgencies of practice. The rhetorical tradition affirms the interdependence of technical ethics and politics aspects. To know is not enough is necessary to convince and to move, realizating passage from theorical to practical liverly. It presupposes still the preoccupation with the solidity of argumentation and of reasoning, a wide cultural formation, the requirement of a civic ethics and, mainly, the adequacy between content and the specifics of audience / Este trabalho objetiva analisar a rela??o entre cultura, educa??o e ret?rica nos serm?es do Padre Antonio Vieira (1608-1697). Discute-se a presen?a da orat?ria no ensino ocidental das suas origens gregas a forma??o do Ratio Studiorum no s?culo XVII. A sociedade brasileira ? definida como barroca e a ret?rica surge como elemento essencial na elabora??o dos discursos e imagin?rios sociais, ocupando o centro das pol?micas sobre quest?es como a raz?o e a f?, a ?tica e a pol?tica, a natureza dos povos ind?genas e africanos, e mesmo sobre a pr?pria constru??o do sujeito moderno. Nesse contexto a prega??o vieirense desempenha as fun??es de kerigma (prega??o), didach? (ensino) e pol?tica (a??o). A pesquisa constituiu-se da leitura minuciosa de cinco desses serm?es, proferidos perante diferentes audit?rios. Através de pesquisas realizadas nos Arquivos e na biblioteca da referida instituição, na biblioteca da Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, da revisão bibliográfica e da realização de entrevistas, buscou-se entender a construção da masculinidade entre os jovens a partir de suas relações com o gênero feminino, e em sua interação com as representações de gênero encetadas naquele tempo-espaço, concluiu-se que a identidade masculina construída pelos alunos do colégio esteve mais próxima do modelo leigo que do modelo religioso.
