A dissertação aqui presente procura cartografar a produção artística da brasileira Regina Vater, desde seu período de formação durante os anos 60 no Rio de Janeiro, até meados da década de 90, quando já fixara residência nos EUA. Vater é contemporânea de um período fértil da produção plástica nacional, tendo participado tanto dos pressupostos figurativos dos anos 60, até os conceitualismos dos 70, culminando assim nas décadas seguintes em um ecologismo artístico votivo que se perpetua até os dias atuais. Nesse percurso, deu-se ênfase nas relações entre sua produção artística e o movimento feminista brasileiro, procurando com isso estabelecer vínculos teóricos e críticos com as principais questões feministas em voga e as práticas artísticas conceitualistas e de vanguarda. / The dissertation presented here seeks to chart the artistic production of the Brazilian artist Regina Vater, since her formation during the period of 60`s in Rio de Janeiro until the mid-90´s, when she already set residence in the U.S.. Vater is contemporary of a fertile plastic production in the country, taking part in both figurative assumptions of 60´s, until the conceptualism of 70´s, thus leading to the following decades in an artistic votive environmentalism that is perpetuated to this day. In this course, was placed emphasis on the relationship between artistic production and Brazilian feminist movement, seeking to establish theorists and critics links with the principal feminist issues and practices in vogue and the artistic avant-garde and conceptual.

Pietro Maria Bardi, \"cronista\" de arte, arquitetura, design (e de muitos outros temas) e galerista experiente na Itália, veio ao Brasil em 1947, aos 47 anos. Trouxe consigo sua segunda esposa, Lina Bo Bardi, e uma coleção de arte a ser exposta no Ministério da Educação e Saúde, no Rio. Foi tão logo convidado por Assis Chateaubriand, diretor da cadeia de jornais Diários Associados, (Diário de S. Paulo etc.) a organizar um Museu de Arte \"Antiga e Moderna,\" que resultou no Museu de Arte de São Paulo--Masp. Tinha por intenção criar um museu vivo organizando, vinculados ao Masp, o Instituto de Arte Contemporânea--IAC, e a Escola de Propaganda, embrião da atual Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing--ESPM, as primeiras tentativas, no Brasil, de uma escola de design e de publicedade. Suas iniciativas buscavam atrair público e tornar a arte acessível, contribuído para que fosse produzida com qualidade pelos brasileiros para os próprios brasileiros, através da conscientização de apreciadores e patrocinadores dessas manifestações. Assim, Bardi, ciente do papel da publicidade, percebia a importância de divulgar tudo relativo às iniciativas do Masp e à arte. Usava como veículos a rede dos Diários, a Habitat (a revista do Masp), a Mirante das Artes & etc. (a revista homônima de sua galeria) e periódicos diversos, principalmente os geridos pelas famílias Carta e Alzugaray. Esses textos brasileiros do diretor e criador do maior museu da América Latina ainda não foram oficialmente compilados nem analisados, especialmente em virtude da dificuldade em acessá-los. Esta pesquisa, um primeiro passo para essa importante e trabalhosa tarefa e concentrou-se em seus artigos publicados nos magazines Casa Vogue, Homem Vogue, Arte Vogue, Senhor Vogue, Senhor e Istoé, no intervalo de 1976 à 1988, período que compreende sua primeira aparição como colaborador nas revistas de Vogue, até a fusão, em 1988, das revistas Senhor e Istoé, da Editora Três. / Pietro Maria Bardi was a journalist and author who wrote about art, design and architecture (along with many other subjects) and an experienced gallerist in Italy. He came to Brazil in 1947, at the age of 47. He brought his second wife, Lina Bo Bardi, and a collection of art to be exhibited in the Health and Education Administration, in Rio De Janeiro. Later Bardi was invited by Assis Chateaubriand, the Diários Associados\'s director, to create an Ancient and Modern Art Museum. This resulted in the creation of the São Paulo Art Museum - Masp. He wanted to create a \"living\" museum, by which he meant a museum with a more interesting and interactive experience. He combined the Contemporary Art Institute, (IAC) the first Brazilian design school, with an advertising school, all under one roof. His goal was to make all kinds of art accessible to everybody, contributing to its creation and quality, by brasilians for brasilians, he did this with the conscientiousness of a connoisseur and with the sponsorship of the art community. Thus, Bardi, conscious of the role of marketing realized the true importantance of advertizing everything related to Masp\'s exhibitions and other initiatives. Alongside the Chateaubriand\'s media, Bardi also advertised and wrote article in the Habitat (the Museum magazine) and Mirante das Artes & etc. (the homonym magazine of his art gallery) magazines and other periodicals like the ones directd by Carta and Alzugaray families. These brazilian articles on art and other related topics, produced by the creator and director of the most important latin american art museum, were never compiled or analysed, most likely because of the difficulty to access them. This research is intended to be the first step of this important and laborious task and focuses on Bardi´s writings published in Casa Vogue, Homem Vogue, Arte Vogue, Senhor Vogue, Senhor e Istoé magazines, between 1976 and 1988, from his first showing as collaborator in Vogue to the merger of Senhor e Istoé magazines, of Editora Três.

Este estudo objetivou evidenciar a atuação de Mario Schenberg na organização das Bienais Internacionais de São Paulo enquanto crítico de arte, nas décadas de 1960 e 1970. Foi analisado o envolvimento do crítico na Sala Especial do pintor Alfredo Volpi na VI Bienal (1961), bem como sua participação no júri de seleção da representação brasileira na VIII, IX e X Bienais (1965, 1967 e 1969). Foi examinada, ainda, a participação de Schenberg nas Mesas Redondas promovidas pela Associação Internacional de Críticos de Arte junto às edições de 1969 e 1971 (X e XI Bienais). A investigação tomou por fontes primárias as críticas originais do Centro Mario Schenberg de Documentação da Pesquisa em Arte ECA/USP escritas no período delimitado, bem como os demais livros, artigos e entrevistas do crítico; acrescente-se a esse material as entrevistas realizadas com artistas, curadores e cientistas que conviveram com Mario Schenberg nessas duas décadas. Além disso, foi realizado um levantamento documental no Arquivo Histórico Wanda Svevo, da Fundação Bienal. A presença do crítico no certame se deu, em primeiro lugar, por conta de sua proximidade com os artistas e seu interesse pela arte e, em segundo lugar, por sua capacidade de trazer um novo olhar para com as obras de arte, que poderia agregar a singularidade da figura de Mario Schenberg aos quadros da Bienal. Ao entender que era função do certame promover visibilidade para os novos artistas que começavam a desenvolver seu trabalho e a definir novos caminhos para a arte, o crítico assumiu o papel de facilitador da aceitação de novos artistas e tendências na representação brasileira das Bienais. / This study had the objective of highlighting Mario Schenberg\'s action in the Sao Paulo\'s International Biennial organization while art critic, in the decades of 1960 and 1970. It was analysed the critic\'s involvement in the painter Alfredo Volpi\'s Special Room in the VI Biennial (1961), as well as his participation on the selection jury of the brazilian representation on the VIII, IX and X Biennials (1965, 1967, 1969). It was examined, still, Schenberg\'s participation on the round tables promoted by the International Association of Art Critics on the 1969 and 1971 (X e XI Biennials) editions. The investigation considered by primary sources the original critics of the Mario Schenberg\'s Center of Documentation Research in Art - ECA/USP written in the defined period, as well as the other books, articles and interviews from the critic; add to this material the interviews with artists, curators and scientists who lived with Mario Schenberg in these two decades. In addition to that, a documental survey was carried out in the Wanda Svevo\'s Historical Archive from the Biennials Foundation. The critic\'s presence in the field was due, in first place, by his proximity to the artists and his interest for the art and, in second place, for his capacility of bringing a new view to works of art, which could add the singularity of Mario Schenberg\'s figure to the Biennial\'s work of art. In understanding that it was the fields function to promote visibility to the new artists who were starting to develop their work and define new ways for the art, the critic took upon him the role of facilitator on the acceptance of new artists and tendencies on the brazilian representation of the Biennials.

L’œuvre de l’Autrichienne Elfriede Jelinek (Prix Nobel de Littérature en 2004) est ici approchée par la bande, c’est-à-dire par les « petits textes » rédigés tout au long de sa carrière en marge de ses pièces et romans. Textes de circonstance, ces essais reposent sur un paradigme esthétique spécifique que le présent travail se propose d’exposer en revenant à leurs conditions de publication initiales. On s’aperçoit ainsi qu’il s’agit de textes de commande véhiculés par des supports médiatiques différents du livre (revue, tract, programme, internet) et qui impliquent une réception particulière, induite par leur dispersion et leur fugacité. La présentation du corpus se fait sur fond des grandes césures de l’œuvre jelinekienne mais aussi de la littérature autrichienne d’après 1945, recomposant le réseau personnel et professionnel de l’auteur et la réintégrant dans sa génération. Trois chapitres sont consacrés à une analyse détaillée des textes. Celle-ci montre d’abord la genèse progressive de leur thématique centrale, à savoir la possibilité d’une œuvre féminine. Elle s’attache ensuite aux trois principes fondamentaux de leur style que sont l’évidement, le paradoxe et la fluidification. Elle étudie enfin le rapport au lecteur conçu sur le mode du brouillage et de l’interférence, qui permet, pour un temps, de prolonger la vie de textes dont le sens tend à s’obscurcir rapidement. Les notions de relation et de singularité sont placées au cœur de cette thèse, identifiées comme l’enjeu esthétique et politique majeur du corpus mais aussi d’une partie de la tradition du genre dont quelques définitions emblématiques (Lukács, Adorno, Barthes, Marielle Macé, Georg Stanitzek) sont discutées. / This thesis discusses the work of the Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek (Nobel Prize for Literature 2004) from its margins, from a corpus of “short texts” written from the beginning of her career beside her novels and plays. As occasional prose, these essays are grounded in a specific aesthetic paradigm, which this dissertation seeks to define by examining their original conditions of publication. This method brings to light that these are commissioned works, released on very different media formats than a book (journals, flyers, programs and the internet), which have their own mode of reception due to their volatility in space and time. The corpus is presented against the backdrop of Jelinek’s main work and its major turning-points. It is also set in the context of Austria’s post-1945 literature according to the author’s personal and professional network in order to reintegrate Jelinek in her generation. Three chapters are then dedicated to a detailed analysis of the texts. This thesis highlights the slow genesis of their main theme, the possibility of a feminine work of art. Then it studies three characteristics of their style - hollowing, paradox and liquidity. Lastly, it deals with the relation to the reader, conceived as jamming and interference, both allowing, at least for a time, to prolong the text’s meaning, as it otherwise tends to become more and more obscure. Relation and singularity are key notions of this thesis, considered as the main aesthetic and political issues of its corpus, being also part of the essayistic tradition, discussed through some canonical definitions (Lukács, Adorno, Barthes, Marielle Macé, Georg Stanitzek).

Syftet med denna studie är att utföra en kritisk diskursanalys av ett urval konstkritiska texter som behandlar utställningarna Paul McCarthy: Head Shop/Shop Head från 2006 och Nationalmuseums Lust & Last från 2011. Utställningarna exemplifierar det jag kallar för den provokativa konstens diskurs. Genom analyserna vill jag se hur ett urval kritiker mottagit utställningarna samt ge en bild av den provokativa konstens diskurs med dessa två utställningar som exempel. / The exhibitions, Paul McCarthy’s Head Shop/Shop Head shown in 2006 and the Nationalmuseum’s Lust & Last shown in 2011, are in centre of this essay. The aim of the essay is to perform a discourse analytical study of a selection of art critical texts concerning these two exhibitions. The exhibitions exemplify what I have chosen to call “The provocative discourse of art”. I want to examine how a selection of art critics received the exhibitions, and also to present a view of “the provocative discourse of art”.

"Show Me the Money!": A Pecuniary Explication of William Makepeace Thackeray's Critical Journalism

Scholars have heretofore under-examined William Makepeace Thackeray's early critical essays despite their potential for illuminating Victorian manners and life. Further, these essays' treatments of aesthetics, class, society, history, and politics are all influenced by the pecuniary aspects of periodical journalism and frequently expose socio-economic attitudes and realities. This study explicates the circumstances, contents, and cultural implications of Thackeray's critical essays. Compensatory payments Thackeray received are reconciled with his bibliographic record, questions regarding Thackeray's interactions with periodicals such as Punch and Fraser's Magazine answered, and a database of the payment practices of early Victorian periodicals established. Thackeray's contributions to leading London newspapers, the Times and the Morning Chronicle, address history, travel, art, literature, religion, and international affairs. Based upon biblio-economic payment records, cross-references, and other information, Thackeray's previously skeletal newspaper bibliographic record is fleshed out with twenty-eight new attributions. With this new information in hand, Thackeray's views on colonial emigration and imperialism, international affairs, religion, medievalism, Ireland, the East, and English middle-class identity are clarified. Further, Thackeray wrote a series of social and political "London" letters for an Indian newspaper, the Calcutta Star. This dissertation establishes that Thackeray's letters were answered in print by "colonial" letters written by James Hume, editor of the Calcutta Star; their mutual correspondence thus constitutes a revealing cosmopolitan - colonial discourse. The particulars of Thackeray's Calcutta Star writings are established, insights into the personalities and viewpoints of both men provided, and societal aspects of their correspondence analyzed. In his many newspaper art exhibition reviews Thackeray popularized serious painting and shaped middle-class taste. The nature and timing of Thackeray's art essays are assessed, espoused values characterized and earlier analyses critiqued, and Thackeray's role introducing middle-class readers to contemporary Victorian art explored. Other Thackeray newspaper reviews addressed literature; indeed, Thackeray's grounding of literature in economic realities demonstrably carried over from his critical thesiss to his subsequent work as a novelist, creating a unity of theme, style, and subject between his early and late writings. Literary pathways originating in Thackeray's critical reviews are shown to offer new insights into Thackeray novels Catherine, Vanity Fair, Henry Esmond, and Pendennis.

The dissertation explores the peculiarities of interaction between expression of urban recreational functions and urban spatial structure, analyses influencing factors and appearing problems. Urban recreational functions play important role in urban structure as they are some of key factors of a liveable and sustainable city. The investigated problem is revealed and analysed by a complex of research methods, which consists of the empirical, field, experimental, statistic analysis and survey research methods. The aim of the dissertation is to evaluate existing and identify potential ways of expression of recreational functions in Vilnius spatial structure, identify factors influencing them. The dissertation consists of introduction, 3 chapters, conclusions, references, list of author’s publications on the subject, annexes. The introduction reveals the investigated problem, importance of the thesis and the object of research and describes the aim and tasks of the work, research methodology, scientific novelty and defended statements. Chapter 1 is the theoretical part of the dissertation and discusses a broad conception of the urban recreation system. It discusses the forms and structure of urban recreation, historical change of recreational needs according to cultural backgrounds. It also analysis the typology, planning experience and aertistic design techniques of urban recreational functions. Veliuonos Švč. Mergelės Marijos Ėmimo į dangų bažnyčioje sukaupta didelė dalis miestelio meno paveldo. Tai vertingi dailės, skulptūrinės plastikos, medžio drožybos, smulkiosios architektūros, auksakalystės kūriniai. Nepaisant to, iki šiol nebuvo atliktas nė vienas išsamus tyrimas, apimantis Veliuonos bažnyčios meno paveldą kaip visumą. Šiuo darbu siekiama sistemingai išanalizuoti bažnyčioje esančias meno vertybes ir jų pažinimo, pasitelkiant kultūrinį turizmą ir piligrimystę, galimybes. Magistro diplominis darbas papildo senosios dailės istorijos mokslą nauja medžiaga apie bažnyčios meno kūrinių raidą ir kaitą, datavimą, autorystę. Jame: a) išaiškinta bažnyčios pastatymo data; b) nustatytas didžiojo altoriaus ir atskirų jo sudedamųjų dalių datavimas; c) išaiškinta didžiojo altoriaus paveikslų, o taip pat šv. Jono Nepomuko paveikslo bei Rožinio Švč. Mergelės Marijos paveikslo aptaisų autorystė; d) nustatyti ankstyviausių bažnyčios altorių titulai; e) rekonstruotas ankstyvesnio, 1644 m. konsekruoto titulinio altoriaus vaizdas, atkurti ankstesni visų altorių paveikslų siužetai; f) remiantis šaltinių analize pateikta naujų faktografinių žinių apie XVIII-XIX a. bažnyčioje buvusius iliuzinius altorius; g) pirmą kartą ištirta bažnyčios dailės ikonologija ir apibendrinta ikonografinė programa; h) pirmą kartą atlikta epitafijos J. K. Bžostovskiui teksto semiotinė analizė; i) aptartos stilistinės ir meninės bažnyčios ypatybės; j) pasiūlytos bažnyčios meno paveldo sklaidos visuomenėje... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / St. Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption Church of Veliuona in the town gained a large part of artistic heritage. This is a valuable art, sculpture, wood carving, fine architecture, farrier works. Nevertheless, so far none has been carried out a detailed survey, covering the artistic heritage church as a whole. This work aims to systematically analyze the church's values in art and knowledge through cultural tourism and pilgrimage, the possibilities. Master's thesis complements the old art history education in the new material on church art and the evolution of change, dating, authorship. There are: a) Church of the anniversary of the date; b) the great altar, and its individual components dating; c) the altar of the great paintings, and also St. John Nepomuk and the image of the Blessed Pink. The analysed problem – the possibilities of conversion for the surroundings of Vilnius airport. Needs of Vilnius International airport for Vilnius city. Main goals for the project – to analyse te surroundings of Vilnius airport, to analyse possibilities of territory conversion to public, comercial and infrastuctural zones.to present the best terrain for airport development. To value airport expansion prediction, current urban structure, infrastructure, functional links with EU and other world senters, to value the possibility to subordinate city tram and european fast trainand connect all this with designed urban structure and urban complex. The Project is based on already existing or still conceptional projects made in Lithuania and abroad.Project presents airport surroundings and its interface with the structure of the parts of town. Airport centre complex should make modern, multifunctional, contemporary gates to European Vilnius.
