Autorská kniha - inspirace řeckou mytologií / Artist book - inspired by greek mythology

NOVOTNÝ, Tomáš January 2013 (has links)
This Thesis consists of two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part forms an integrated theoretical conception that seeks inspiration from Greek myths and offers creative starting points for the practical part which is the creative project of realization of an artist book. There are also described the origins and development of the mythical tradition in Greece. The main source of inspiration is found in the myths of origin by the epic poet Hésiodos. The mythical perspective on the origin in chaos is enhanced by the views of Pre-Socratic philosophers who influenced by the mythical tradition sought the rational origin, the primaeval existence. The artist book inspired by the myth of origin is produced in a shape of a folder of ten sheets in A2 format.

The goal of this research is to find possible dialogues between word and image within visual poetry, art and design. The proposal is to interweave word and image within these languages, seeking agreements and disagreements, using as a thread for these reflections the production of artistsʼ books made by Mira Schendel, Lygia Pape, Edith Derdyk and by visual poet Ronaldo Azeredo, who investigated verbal and visual relationship through different possibilities of representation, creating representative works with great artistic, aesthetic and cultural value. The idea is to outline the evolutions of these languages from their beginnings to the present day, narrating their dialogue and looking back on the origins of these relationships, researching where word and image started to merge, what media were used and how they were used. This paper also reflects on the influence of the avant-garde and how these movements are expressed in the artistsʼ books. The contemporary world is marked by a proliferation of images in the media and in everyday life, but how is this reading done? The critical eye toward the visual is seen today as highly important. This accounts for the relevance of this study, which proposes to think about the image and its relationship with the word, raise contemporary issues such as the large amount of images we receive from day to day and corroborate the idea that you must have a sharp eye on them. What knowledge can we draw from these relationships? After reading authors, analyzing artistsʼ books, interviewing the artist Edith Derdyk, we looked for an understanding of the dialogue between word and image, their relations, agreements and disagreements. This research concludes with an annexe that describes the experience undertaken with high school students during the creation of artistsʼ books.

Paisagens permeáveis

Monteiro, Emanuel dos Santos January 2015 (has links)
Paisagens permeáveis it is a research about drawing from which rises a discussion about the way of looking at closess spaces (space of the house) that unfold over distances of outer space (backyard, nature), considering the material aspect of these situations. I call dialectic of space, this movement of interpenetration that is given from the look, and that runs through, as a concept and problem to be solved in the image environment, all the works presented here. The dialectical relationship between the near and the distant present in the preparation of images, combined with employed materiality and its apparent tactility, and the work of resorting to personal memories, family and finally, the memories of the matter of their own works, gives birth to permeable images that formulates landscape.

Krug, Rosana January 2011 (has links)
The present dissertation aims to demonstrate perceptive singularities of different subjects by the observation of the relations between materials selected, production procedures and spacial choices for their presentation, in visual art, viewing perception as the complex of all body senses. The theorical references relate Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Gaston Bachelard’s Perception and Matter Phenomenology to Algirdas Julien Gremas’ Semiopticts of the Senses and Eric Landowski studies, as well as focuses the aesthetic paradigms of Western art, associating them to the sensorial callings in the artist book making in its interaction potential with the public, and as hybrid object in contemporary art. The dissertation has, as methodologic referential, the qualitative research with description and data analysis of the study of two cases that regard the interaction between body and matter in the creative process and production of artist books by art teachers, that took place in a workshop designed for this data collection, at Feevale University. The analysis verified the aesthesis and sinesthesis present in the creative process of each studied case, concluding that each subject gives priority to one of the five body senses, acompanied by a second body sense, as their processes and products demonstrated. One of the studied cases showed the priority of the sense of touch over the visual one; the other case, however, demonstrated that the visual choices were more important, followed by tactile ones. The workshop final productions brought to discussion the differences between an artist book and an object book, which brought a dilemma regarding their delimitations, as they were tending to belong to the installation category. Les interactions entre le texte et l’image dans le « Livre de dialogue » en France et en Allemagne de 1980 à 2004 / The interactions between text and image in the "Livre de dialogue" in France and Germany from 1980 to 2004

Hagemann, Anja 08 July 2010 (has links)
This thesis investigates the interactions between text and image in the artist book (Livre de dialogue), composed jointly by a poet and a painter, in France and Germany from 1980 to 2004. In contrast to the « illustrated book», where the image is subordinated to the text, I explore in this special type of book the encounter between two means of expression sharing equal importance, a dialogue that yields complex interactions between visual and verbal signs. The existence of two different semiotic systems such as poetry and painting bears interesting questions, as each possesses its specific units, its own syntagmatic and paradigmatic structure and its specific way to create significance. The analysis focuses on the different forms, the consequences and the limits of this encounter. The first part consists of an examination of the figurative processes that are linked to the representation of the poetic or pictorial object in a general way. Following this examination, a more detailed analysis investigates the interactions between text and image based on the concepts of space, fragment, body and the creative process. Thus, the aim is not to transpose the stylistic system to painting or vice versa, but to explore points of intersection between semiotic, intermedia, aesthetic and history of art.

An artist book as an essay and an object

Norrman, Peter January 2019 (has links)
I am using the essay as a vehicle to make an artist book. The essay functions on several levels: As my master essay text. As an artist book and stand alone object. As a way to distill my artistic production during my time at Konstfack into a new work. It is my attempt at creating both textworks and photobased elements that together seek to create a probe into the printed publication as another a form of montagéd cinema.

To respect the reproduction rights and copyrights, the electronic version of this thesis was stripped of images and audiovisuals. The integral version has been left with Documents Management and Archives Service at the University of Montreal. / Nathalie Heinich examines how the current diversity of artistic practices deeply modified the way artists singularise and assert themselves on the contemporary art scene. Going back to Van Gogh, the figure of the artist itself has taken precedence over the work, notably in the literature created by critics and biographers, despite the fact that the works themselves may very well be self-referential. A number of contemporary practices, notably those emanating from performance art, rely on a theatricalisation of the self, a mythologisation even. Among them, Sophie Calle constantly blurs the distinction between art and personal life, between fiction and reality. Her work entails various double games such as media and medium crossovers (exhibition/artist book; performance/visual documentation), recycling, publicity stunts and blurrings of authorship. This thesis examines À suivre…, a book by the artist that refers to previous performances (followed by exhibitions) on her favorite theme of tracking (Suite vénitienne and La filature). Philippe Lejeune and Vincent Colonna’s arguments are summoned to highlight the fictional impulse that inhabits works with an autobiographical pretension – writing strategies and play between illustrations (photographs) and text in Calle’s production demonstrate that. In light of Maxence Alcalde’s theorisation of the opportunistic artist, a figure he considers to be emblematic of the contemporary art scenes and markets, a great distance is revealed with Heinich’s Grand Singulier, a paradigmatic figure of the modernist artist.

Le livre d'artiste pour enfants : une approche esthétique et socioculturelle de l'enfance / Artist Book for children : an aesthetic and socio-cultural approach to childhood

Merle, Amélie 16 June 2017 (has links)
This thesis observe the phenomenon of the artist book for children. The primary objective of the study is to link our object to a deeper questioning concerning the place of art and how a form of specific artistic practice can take part in the concept of childhood and educational issues. The research attempt to clarify an aesthetic of childhood in the years 68, a significant development in a context of socio-cultural change in progress. Indeed, it is in this same period we can observe avant-garde artistic movements and practices which take part in the development of another perspective on childhood with art for and with children. Our reflection is in the field of the sciences of education but also in the history of art because the artist's book is part of these hybrid objects located halfway between the book and the work Of art. We question our object: if in a general way, the children's book carries a certain representation that a society makes of childhood, if it is like a mirror of what it wants to offer as Models of childhood, the specific book that interests us, the artist's book for children, can not it also tell us something specific about the childhood of today? In order to understand our object in all its dimensions, it seems pertinent to question the evolution of the image of childhood in the book but also to question artists who create art books intended for youth such as Leszek Brogowsky (2010) advocates it in the context of the study of specific artistic practices . We then proceed to a careful examination of artists' books considered as devices, alternative spaces (Dupeyrat, 2012), places of expression of a certain regard focused on childhood. It is by interrogating the artists, while trying to retrace their trajectory (Passeron, 1990) that our object will also become more readable and visible. Why have full-fledged artists made this choice for creation for childhood? How can the artist book for children be representative of a new look at childhood? Our work wish brings to light new looks to observe art and childhood otherwise.
