Jokiaho, Isabell January 2015 (has links)
The study was initiated by Swedish Tennis Syd in collaboration with Halmstad University with the intention to examine the existing tennis talent development environments for 13-16 years of age players. The purpose of the study was to (1) examine the retrospective experiences of the talent de- velopment environments among players who already passed the focal age, (2) examine the retro- spective and concurrent experiences of the talent development environments among tennis coaches, and (3) examine the concurrent experience of the talent development environments among parents whose kids were active in tennis in the focal age. The study involved 14 participants whom had connection to tennis clubs within Swedish Tennis Syd’s working region. Data were collected through three focus groups interviews consisting of players, coaches, and parents. Eight major themes emerged from the data analysis: atmosphere in the clubs, organization of the training groups, amount of training, quality of the training, access to expert assistance, amount of competi- tion, combination of school and tennis, and, parental involvement. Each theme was analyzed within the group and across the three groups. The results revealed perceptions of the clubs environments and future recommendation to improve the talent development environments for tennis players of 13-16 years old.

Using Video Feedback to Improve Martial-Arts Performance

Benitezsantiago, Angela Stefanie 01 January 2011 (has links)
Video feedback has great potential to enhance performance in many settings. The following study used video feedback to enhance the martial arts performance of capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art that utilizes acrobatic movements (revesado, au de costa, and macaco). A multiple baseline across behaviors was used for 5 participants where baseline conditions consisted of standard coaching consisting of instruction, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback and continued throughout the study. The intervention consisted of video feedback, in which the participants were filmed attempting a movement and immediately viewed the video afterwards, while receiving positive and corrective feedback from the instructor, using the pause, slow motion, and replay controls. The participant was filmed at least a total of three times per session and each attempt was scored. The target behaviors were scored on a 15-item checklist, resulting in a percentage correct. A second video feedback condition similar to the first was also introduced to some participants, in which participants were able to practice the movements with live feedback before being filmed again. Results show gradual increases in baseline and a more rapid acquisition of the skills during the video feedback conditions.

Relationships Between Participation in Athletics and Substance Use Among School Students

Stockslager, Kevin M. 01 January 2009 (has links)
Substance use among high school students has become an increased concern for administrators, parents, and community members. Previous research has demonstrated relationships between adolescent substance use and numerous negative outcomes. This study investigated the relationship between athletic participation and substance use using self-report data from a sample of 139 high school students. Specifically, the current study examined the relationship between frequency and setting of participation in athletic activities (e.g., football, baseball, soccer) and multiple types of substance use (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, other illicit drugs) in adolescents. The results of this study indicate that nonathletes reported significantly more marijuana use than athletes when gender, ethnicity, SES, and grade were controlled for in the analyses. Additionally, there was a significant relationship between students‟ grade and substance use. Specifically, 12 th grade students reported significantly higher rates of alcohol use than 10th grade students. Implications for school psychologists and directions for future research are presented.

Jaunimo krepšinio komandų pagrindinių judamųjų gebėjimų įvertinimas / The assessment of major movable key skills of the youth basketball teams

Kalvelis, Mindaugas 10 September 2013 (has links)
Krepšininkų atletinį parengtumą objektyviai nustatyti ir įvertinti galima tik išmatavus visus pagrindinius judamuosius gebėjimus: jėgą, vikrumą, ištvermę, greitumą, lankstumą, ir riebalų masę (NBA Power Conditioning, 1997; Stonkus, 2003). Tokia visapusiška atletinio parengtumo įvertinimo programa taikoma NBA (Nacionalinės krepšinio asociacijos) krepšininkams (NBA Power Conditioning, 1997). Tyrimo objektas: Kauno “Žalgiris – SM(Sabonio mokykla)” ir Žalgiris-2 komandų atletinis parengtumas. Tyrimo tikslas: nustatyti ir įvertinti jaunimo komandų (Kauno “Žalgiris – SM” ir Žalgiris-2) atletinį parengtumą pagal NBA krepšininkams sudarytas rangines skales. Tyrimo uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti ir įvertinti jaunimo krepšinio komandų (Kauno “Žalgirio – SM”,ir „Žalgirio-2“) lokomocinio greitumo ir vikrumo, jėgos, greitumo jėgos, anaerobinės ir jėgos ištvermės, jėgos ištvermės, lankstumo judamųjų gebėjimų ir kūno riebalų masės rodiklius pagal NBA pateiktas rangines skales. 2. Nustatyti jaunimo krepšinio komandų (Kauno “Žalgirio – SM” ir „Žalgirio-2“) aletinį pagengtumą remiantis NBA vertinimo kriterijais. Tirtų krepšininkų pagrindinių judamųjų gebėjimų išugdymas nebuvo tolygus: lankstumo, anaerobinės ištvermės testavimo rodikliai atitiko vidutinius, jėgos ištvermė (sestis ir gultis testas), lokomocinio greitumo ir riebalų masė (proc.) – labai gerus parengtumo rodiklius, greitumo jėga ir jėgos ištvermė (prisitraukimų testas) prasčiau nei vidutinė, jėgos ištvermė (atsispaudimų testas)...
