The purpose of this thesis is to conduct an autoethnographic analysis on my literate activities as a blogger to better understand the content creation and monetization practices of modern bloggers. In Chapter 1, I introduce readers to my blog and discuss some current lines of scholarship on blogging. In Chapter 2, I discuss my research methods and justify my use of autoethnography for my study. In Chapters 3 and 4, I explain my content creation and monetization processes in detail. In Chapter 5, I draw conclusions from my analysis and provide a few further directions for research. My suggestions for future research include to analyze other bloggers' work, use different research methods in addition to autoethnography, and look at different types of blogs instead of just sites in the lifestyle category. One of my key takeaways from my research is that blogging is an interdisciplinary activity that requires skills in not just writing, but design, technology, and marketing.

The principal aim of this thesis is to examine motivations for running a personal blog among the Czech adult blogger population. The theoretical part covers the charakteristics of blog as a form of virtual interpersonal communication and explores the historical development and the current status of the Czech blogosphere, with regard to potential motives that it reflects. Furthermore, it introduces motivational theories associated with the production of blog content and specific motivational factors based on previous research both in the Czech and foreign countries. In addition, it examines motivation for blogging in terms of characteristics of bloggers such as age, gender and personality. The empirical part of the thesis consists of a combined research design of a questionnaire. The exploratory factor analysis has discovered seven key motivational factors: Harmony and introspection, Self-actualization, Socialisation, Profit, Information spreading, Broadening one's horizons and Documentation. The first four factors show a negative correlation with age. Women are more motivated by Harmony and introspection, Socialisation and Profit than men. The motive of Broadening one's horizons increases during the bloggers' career. The results are accompanied by qualitative insight.

Esta pesquisa visa contribuir para o desenvolvimento do conceito de rede cultural, instância fundamental na promoção de trocas simbólicas e interações indispensáveis aos processos culturais de construção de sentidos. O paradigma norteador deste estudo exploratório é a rede intergeracional, como modalidade da rede cultural, tomada sob perspectiva teórica e metodológica a partir de enfoque histórico-cultural e quanto às possibilidades como dispositivo de reterritorialização das relações entre idosos e jovens. Foi utilizada metodologia colaborativa, modalidade que envolve a atuação direta da pesquisadora nas oficinas com os grupos de idosos que compõem a Estação Memória e com as crianças e jovens que participam do Núcleo Educação Cidadã, do Programa Einstein na Comunidade de Paraisópolis. A fundamentação teórico-metodológica está centrada nas abordagens do conceito das redes, porém ressalta-se o vazio relacionado à conceituação das redes culturais e das redes intergeracionais sob a perspectiva cultural. Nesse sentido, são apresentadas as potencialidades da estrutura das redes em sua dimensão estratégica para colocar em prática ações culturais marcadas pela aproximação entre as diferentes gerações. Propõe-se a apropriação dos recursos tecnológicos e de comunicação, como as ferramentas de redes sociais on-line e os blogs, para estabelecer as conexões rompidas. O estudo conclui que a rede intergeracional, como modalidade da rede cultural, revela-se de fato possível e relevante para estabelecer e sustentar os laços sociais e simbólicos entre as diferentes gerações, além de reforçar a identidade tanto dos sujeitos como dos grupos geracionais. / This research aims to contribute to the development of the cultural network concept, basic instance in the promotion of symbolic exchanges and indispensable interactions to the cultural processes of meaning construction. The paradigm that directed this exploratory study is the network between generations, as a cultural network`s way, taken on theoretical and methodological perspective, from the historical and cultural aspect and the possibilities as a device to repossession of relations between older people and youth. A collaborative research methodology was used that envolves the direct intervention of the researcher in the workshops with groups of elderly who compose the Estação Memória (Station Memory) and groups of children and youth who participates in the Citizen Education Area, from Programa Einstein na Comunicadade de Paraisópolis (Einstein in the Paraisópolis Community Program). The theoretical references is focused on the concept of networks, however, there are gaps related to the cultural networks concept and intergenerational networks in the cultural perspective. Therefore, we present the potential of the networks structure in its strategic dimension to put in practice cultural activities marked by the rapprochement between different generations. Besides concluding the appropriation of the technological and communication resources, like online social networks and blogs, can contribute for the reestablishment of breached social bows. To conclude, the intergenerational networks, as a modality from the cultural network, revels in fact, possible and relevant to establish and support the social and symbolic bows between the different generations, moreover, to reinforcing the identity of both groups of subjects as the generational group.

Esta pesquisa se insere nas linhas de investigação do Centro de Pesquisa ATOPOS, da Escola de Comunicação e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (ECA/USP) sobre os aspectos teóricos das mídias digitais. Propõe compreender, estudar, analisar e verificar como a sociabilidade expressa nos blogs está contribuindo para ressignificação e identificação dos valores culturais entre os dekasseguis por meio da construção de uma identidade comunicativa na web. A metodologia baseia-se em uma análise de fundo qualitativo da composição da postagem de oito blogs em três períodos determinados, levando em conta critérios trazidos pela determinação da tipologia de blogs e existência de comunidades e espaços conversacionais na rede digital e por fragmentos de análise usados pela análise do discurso. Entre os resultados podemos afirmar que o termo comunidade dekassegui não é apropriado se for levado em conta a sociologia clássica, porém este termo pode ser aplicado no âmbito digital. Também o termo mediascape, de Arjun Appadurai (1996), e situação social tecnológica (MEYROWITZ, 1985) se mostram presentes e relidos ao serem aplicados a este grupo. / This research fits into the lines of investigation of the ATOPOS Research Center, of Escola de Comunicação e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo [School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo] (ECA/USP) on the theoretical aspects of digital media. It is intended to understanding, studying, analyzing and verifying how the sociability expressed in the blogs contributes to the redefinition and identification of the cultural values among the dekasseguis through the construction of a communicative identity in the Web. The methodology is based on the qualitative analysis of the composition of posts of eight blogs, in three determined periods, considering criteria brought by speech analysis and determination of the typology of blogs and the existence of communities and conversational spaces in the digital web. Among the results, one can state that the term dekassegui community is not appropriate, considering the classic sociology, but such term can be applied in the digital sphere. Also, the terms mediascape, of Arjun Appadurai (1996), and social technologic situation (Meyrowitz, 1985) are present and redefined when applied to this group.

Esta dissertação tem por objetivo explicitar como o trabalho com o blog, utilizando outras ferramentas tecnológicas como o e-mail, Google Docs, HQ digital online podem auxiliar aos alunos produzirem atividades na disciplina de Ciências do Ensino Fundamental do ciclo II, com a temática da sexualidade. As atividades buscaram estimular habilidades como reflexão, autonomia, pesquisa, raciocínio lógico, trabalhar de modo cooperativo e ler e escrever utilizando diferentes gêneros textuais. Busca ainda contemplar a participação ativa destes alunos na construção do seu aprendizado por meio das ferramentas tecnológicas citadas anteriormente. Para o desenvolvimento do trabalho buscou-se abordar fundamentos teóricos socioculturais como os dos pesquisadores Vygostky (formação de conceitos espontâneos e científicos, zona de desenvolvimento proximal, funções psicológicas superiores e mediação simbólica), Bakhtin (enunciação, gêneros discursivos e polifonia) e Wertsch (teoria da ação mediada, ferramentas culturais, domínio e apropriação de conhecimentos). Para a elaboração da estrutura física do blog buscou-se apoiar na concepção de trabalho por projetos (desenvolvendo-se o tema da sexualidade) e na metodologia WebQuest (utilizando-se alguns elmentos da mesma como: pesquisa na internet, desenvolvimento de tarefas, divulgação das atividades realizadas pelos alunos, passo a passo de atividades). Conceitua e aborda historicamente as TIC e blogs na educação e no ensino de Ciências. Relaciona as TIC com o ensino de Ciências e a legislação educacional. O presente trabalho mostra como foi todo o processo de desenvolvimento de um blog (com o nome Aprender Ciências Sexualidade) feito por uma professora da rede pública em uma escola na cidade de São Paulo, mostrando como a mesma aplicou o uso deste blog com um grupo de alunos de uma 7ª série (8º ano, no atual ensino de 9 anos) e quais foram as principais atividades desenvolvidas por estes. A elaboração das orientações das atividades feitas pela professora para os alunos pode ser visualizada por meio de postagens e links no blog e as atividades realizadas pelos alunos por meio das postagens e links contidos nestas, também no blog. This paper shows how the whole process of developing a blog (with the name \"Learning Sciences - Sexuality\") made by a teacher in a public school in São Paulo city, showing how it applied the use of this blog with a group of students from a 7th grade (thirteen and fourteen old) and what were the main activities developed by them. The preparation of guidelines for activities done by the teacher for students can be viewed through the blog posts and links, and activities undertaken by students through the posts and links contained in these, also on the blog. This research seeks to relate, analyze and discuss the preparation of the blog produced by the teacher and the use of the blog done by this group of students from the theoretical assumptions outlined earlier, sociocultural theories, design work for projects and methodology WebQuest.

Na emergência da revolução comunicacional instaurada pelas mídias digitais e diante dos desafios postos pela crise ambiental e busca por padrões de desenvolvimento mais sustentáveis, o trabalho desenvolvido teve o objetivo de pesquisar experiências de jornalismo ambiental praticado em espaços digitais voltados (blogs ambientais). Por estar ligado ao subprojeto Novas tecnologias da comunicação e educação ambiental na bacia do rio Corumbataí, vinculado ao Projeto Temático do Programa Biota da Fapesp Mudanças socioambientais no Estado de São Paulo e perspectiva para conservação, este trabalho considerou a bacia do rio Corumbataí como ponto de partida para o desenvolvimento do estudo de forma a criar alternativas para execução da educação ambiental na região. O trabalho desenvolve análises sobre a forma e conteúdo de postagens de nove blogs selecionados e de um blog produzido em âmbito universitário, o educorumbataí. As análises com relação à estrutura dos blogs e postagens, ou seja, de natureza técnica e operacional, foram desenvolvidas por meio de análises webmétricas e as voltadas ao conteúdo, foram realizadas com base no referencial teórico da educação ambiental e diretrizes político-pedagógicas do Programa de Educomunicação Socioambiental do Ministério de Meio Ambiente (2005). As análises webmétricas e de conteúdo dos blogs possibilitaram, num primeiro momento, compreender as manifestações culturais populares e uma nova ética nas relações homem-ambiente e homem-sociedade pautadas e construídas em processos coletivos de transformação social. As temáticas ambientais nesses espaços digitais têm ganhado conotações mais holísticas, saindo da dicotomia catástrofe e impacto ambientais. O uso do blog possibilitou também um fazer educativo e participativo para aqueles que pretendem atuar junto a sujeitos que vivem em elevado estado de vulnerabilidade socioambiental, em função da experiência vivenciada pelos autores e leitores nas construções das postagens abordadas e nas possibilidades educomunicativas de se trabalhar o ambiente na rede. A teorização é feita considerando as correntes da educação ambiental de Sauvé (2005), os princípios de educação ambiental transformadora de Loureiro (2004), os aspectos da complexidade de Morin (1985), inseridas nesses processos, e os conceitos estruturantes acerca de blog, cibercultura, comunicação e jornalismo ambiental. / In the emergency communication revolution brought by digital media and facing the challenges posed by the environmental crisis and search for more sustainable patterns of development, the work aimed to investigate experiences of environmental journalism practiced in digital spaces facing (environmental blogs). By being connected to the subproject \"New communication technologies and environmental education in the river basin Corumbatai\", linked to the Thematic Project of FAPESP \"socio-environmental changes in the state of Sao Paulo and prospects for conservation\" this work considered the basin Corumbatai as a starting point for developing the study to develop alternatives for the implementation of environmental education in the region. The paper develops the analysis of form and content of posts of nine selected blogs and a blog produced in the university, the educorumbatai. The analyzes regarding the structure of blogs and posts, ie, technical and operational, were developed through analysis and webmetrics oriented content, were based on the theoretical framework of environmental education and guidance of the politicalpedagogical Educommunication Environmental Program of the Ministry of Environment (2005). Analyses webmetrics and content of blogs allowed at first to understand the popular cultural events and a new ethics in human-environment relationships and man-ruled society and constructed in collective processes of social transformation. The environmental issues in these digital spaces have gained more holistic connotations, leaving the dichotomy disaster and environmental impact. The use of the blog also allowed to make an educational and participatory for those who intend to work together with individuals who live in a high state of socioenvironmental vulnerability in light of the experience lived by the authors and readers in the construction of posts and discussed the possibilities of working the educomunicative environment in the network. The theory is made considering the current environmental education Sauvé (2005), the principles of environmental education transforming Loureiro (2004), aspects of the complexity of Morin (1985), embedded in these processes, and structural concepts about blog cyberculture, communication and environmental journalism.

Taking into consideration the crucial role played by communication in organizations, the use of new technologies and strategies is been the objective of lots of companies, which aim to achieve, effectively, their internal and external publics. Among all tools currently available, there are the corporate blogs that, as blogs in general, are frequently modified web pages in which dated entries are listed in reverse chronological sequence. As a primary study, it was investigated how corporate blogs has been used by companies selected from the magazine Exame Melhores e Maiores 2007. In this study, was worth being highlighted the Blog Consultoria, maintained by Natura and identified as the greatest success among the companies analyzed. So the present research aims at the accomplishment of a case study about Natura s Blog Consultoria, by comprehending how the blog participates in the development of a relationship between the company and its consultants and what the blog users perception about the tool is. Natura, the leading company in the cosmetics sector, adopt the direct selling system to commerce its goods through consultants. Thirteen consultants answered a survey on their perception about the blog and, on the other hand, Natura answered about the webpage itself. The blog s content, published from May 5th to October 15th 2008, was studied according to its category and the number of comments posted. Taking for granted that the relationship between the company and its consultants is one of the aspects included in Natura s Development Plan in Brazil and analizing all data collected, it is possible to conclude that Blog Consultoria contributes to the organizational strategy and it s part of a range of tools and actions which complements one another, makes the consultory work viable and approximates Natura to its audience. / Considerando o papel crucial exercido pela comunica??o nas organiza??es, tem sido o objetivo de diversas empresas fazer uso de novas tecnologias e estrat?gias que visem a atingir, de uma forma mais efetiva, seu p?blico interno e externo. Dentre as ferramentas atualmente dispon?veis, est?o os blogs corporativos, que, assim como os blogs em geral, s?o p?ginas da internet freq?entemente atualizadas, que apresentam um conte?do organizado em ordem cronol?gica reversa. Como estudo piloto, foi investigada a forma pela qual o blog corporativo tem sido utilizado por empresas, selecionadas com base na revista Exame Melhores E Maiores de 2007. Nesse estudo inicial, mereceu destaque o Blog Consultoria, mantido pela Natura e identificado como o de maior sucesso entre as empresas participantes do estudo. Assim, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo a realiza??o de um estudo de caso acerca do Blog Consultoria da Natura, de modo a compreender a participa??o do blog no desenvolvimento do relacionamento com o p?blico de consultores, bem como a percep??o dos usu?rios do blog a respeito da ferramenta. A Natura, empresa l?der no setor de cosm?ticos, adota a estrat?gia de venda direta para comercializar seus produtos por meio de consultores. Participaram do estudo 13 consultoras, que responderam a um question?rio cujo objetivo era conhecer a percep??o dos visitantes sobre o blog. A Natura tamb?m respondeu a um question?rio contendo quest?es sobre o blog. O conte?do, postado no per?odo compreendido entre 5 de mar?o de 2008 e 15 de outubro de 2008, foi examinado em fun??o de sua categoria e do n?mero de coment?rios publicados. This study refers to a qualitative exploratory research on the impact and potential of the blog, whose theme is environmental education. This research proposes to investigate areas of "cyberspace" that increasingly favors the responsiveness that the other places would not be viable. These virtual spaces, blogs, initially created as a resource of support among journalists and as personal diary, have sho n a remarkable resource to discuss matters of collective interest and mobilization, moreover, has proved to be a very appropriate for the learning and knowledge dissemination. The investigation was held with the mapping of the best known Brazilian blogs on environmental education published in mainstream media (television, magazine, newspapers, etc..), The Internet and by professional experts on the subject: journalists, biologists and educators. This mapping we selected four (4) Brazilian blogs that address environmental education, they were: Blog Planet, Sustainable Planet Blog, Blog Do your part and Envolverde Blog. The research strategy adopted was a content analysis of records from the blogs. The results show the power of social networks in disseminating information about the environment and environmental education, and how to deal with the issues of the planet and the environment in social networks in several respects (climate change, environmental preservation, social consciousness, water , garbage, etc.), configuring itself as a valuable space for debate, social mobilization and collective knowledge construction. The theme (climate change) was the most talked about and discussed in blogs, that will converge to the main theme discussed at the meeting in Copenhagen, in December 2009. / A idéia de a pesquisa ser um tema interdisciplinar foi proposta pelo fato do curso deste mestrado também ser interdisciplinar. O presente estudo refere-se a uma pesquisa qualitativa de cunho exploratório sobre a repercussão e potencialidade do blog, cuja temática é a educação ambiental. Esta pesquisa propôs investigar espaços da cibercultura que favorece cada vez mais a comunicabilidade que em outros espaços não seriam viáveis. Estes espaços virtuais, os blogs, criados inicialmente como um recurso de apoio no meio jornalístico e como diário pessoal, têm se mostrado um recurso notável para discussão de assuntos de interesse coletivo e mobilização, além disso, tem se mostrado um espaço bastante propício para o aprendizado e a disseminação do conhecimento. A investigação se deu com o mapeamento dos blogs brasileiros mais conhecidos sobre educação ambiental divulgados na mídia corrente (televisão, revista, jornais etc.), na Internet e pelos profissionais especialistas no tema: jornalistas, biólogos e educadores. Deste mapeamento selecionamos 4 (quatro) blogs brasileiros que abordam o tema educação ambiental, foram eles: Blog do Planeta, Blog Planeta Sustentável, Blog Faça a sua parte e Blog Envolverde. A estratégia de investigação adotada foi a análise de conteúdo a partir de registros nos blogs. Os resultados apontam o poder das redes sociais na disseminação de informações sobre o meio ambiente e educação ambiental, e de como lidar com as questões do planeta e o meio ambiente nas redes sociais, sob diversos aspectos (mudanças climáticas, preservação ambiental, consciência cidadã, água, lixo etc), configurando-se como um espaço valioso de debate, mobilização social e construção coletiva do conhecimento. A temática (mudanças climáticas) foi a mais comentada e abordada nos blogs, essa disposição converge para a temática principal abordada no Encontro em Copenhagen, ocorrido em dezembro de 2009.

This paper shows how the whole process of developing a blog (with the name \"Learning Sciences - Sexuality\") made by a teacher in a public school in São Paulo city, showing how it applied the use of this blog with a group of students from a 7th grade (thirteen and fourteen old) and what were the main activities developed by them. The preparation of guidelines for activities done by the teacher for students can be viewed through the blog posts and links, and activities undertaken by students through the posts and links contained in these, also on the blog. This research seeks to relate, analyze and discuss the preparation of the blog produced by the teacher and the use of the blog done by this group of students from the theoretical assumptions outlined earlier, sociocultural theories, design work for projects and methodology WebQuest.
