"Barn läsupplevelser : 10-åringars berättelser om valet av läsning läsmiljö, läsrespons och bokprat” / "Children’s reading experiences : 10-year-olds' stories of choice of reading, reading environment, reading response and book talks"

Almström, Ylva, Petersson, Nanna January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this Bachelor thesis is to examine how children describe their experiences of their own reading, with focus on different aspects of reading: Choice of reading, reading environment, response to reading and book talk. Our aim is also to examine which approaches to reading their stories illustrate. The research is founded on semi-structured interviews with six children aged 10, in connection with book talks. For analysis we used Åse Hedemark’s study Barn berättar : En studie av 10-årningars syn på läsning och bibliotek as well as Aidan Chambers’ theories concerning reading and reading environment. Our results show that these children had very positive feelings about the aspects of reading. Several of them expressed that reading was at its best when they felt they forgot about time and space. The outer reading environment was also found to have an impact on these children's reading experiences. Several of them created their own reading places, which were characterized by being perceived as cozy and hidden away from the rest of the world. Despite that, there were also some negative stories, especially concerning reading they were obliged to do by their teachers. A neutral attitude to reading was also shown, in how the children might choose literature based on their friends’ preferences. By talking about their reading with each other, they turned their solitary reading into a social activity. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Läslust : En studie om pedagogers uppfattningar gällande att väcka läslust hos barn i förskoleklass

Andersson, Monica January 2013 (has links)
Children's language development is highly connected to the success of every school. Especially when it comes to the children learning reading and writing skills, regardless of what method the schools use in order to achieve this. An early intervention can facilitate the learning of reading comprehension. Reading aloud and playing with the language learning is the greatest gift we can give our children and students. Children learn how to use a book by turning the pages and see how the words and texts are structured. Together you create a moment of closeness and discover how you can share your thoughts and experiences using pictures and words in the book. The purpose of this study is to gain insight and understanding into how teachers motivates and leads the children towards the discovering their own joy of reading. These also include those children that would rather play than sitting still listening to children's literature. The survey is a series of interviews with six class teachers from pre-schools in a suburb south of Stockholm. The result shows that teachers believe that reading aloud and having follow up book talks are an important part of capturing children’s interest for reading, especially children who do not have their own motivation to be involved in learning to enjoy books. Reading aloud using intonation and different voices stimulates children's curiosity, and in turn this results in children themselves getting involved in the narration.

Konsten att tala om böcker : Bokprat ur ett retoriskt perspektiv / The Art of Talking about Books : Book Talk from a Rhetorical Perspective

Pettersson, Linn January 2015 (has links)
In this study the book talk is examined as a communicative act with a purpose to convince according to an under-lying intention to promote reading. I follow the book talk’s way from an idea of the book talker (and the library) to the reception of the audience, with the aim to understand how to talk about books in an engaging manner. More specifically, the rhetorical situation and the purpose of a book talk, the performance and the means to arouse and retain interest in the book talk as a speech and in the books themselves are examined and the impact of the book talk on the audience. The empirical material consists of observations of two different book talks (both directed to children) and interviews with the two different book talking librarians and a few of the children from the audiences to both book talks. The theoretical framework consists of rhetorical theories from both antique and modern times and I perform a rhetorical analysis of both book talks. As a complement to the rhetorical theories I use concepts from Readers’ Advisory such as ”book appeal” and ”reading appeal” to talk about what in the books themselves and in reading as an activity can be used as an argument. The results of the study show that in principle all children wanted to read one or more of the books presented in the book talk. To achieve this interest from the children the librarians know how to use the stories in the books and to draw on the arguments from the books themselves. This involves different appeal-elements from the books as plot summary, characters, genre, style and atmosphere. The book talking librarians also used different rhetorical techniques including evidentia, identification, pathos and ethos. Ethos especially in the form of the benevolence or goodwill the book talker shows the audience by including them in the book talk and trusting them to share what they think about the books. This study is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

Att arbeta med litteratursamtal : En systematisk litteraturstudie om litteratursamtal i grundskolan

Hultebring Ståhl, Jennie January 2017 (has links)

Ahlberg, Jennie, Persson, Amanda January 2013 (has links)

Milosavljevic´, Vesna, Olsson, Margareta January 2007 (has links)

Life and Fiction : On intertextuality in pupils’ booktalk

Eriksson (Barajas), Katarina January 2002 (has links)
This study examines booktalk, that is, teacher-led group discussions about books for children in a Swedish school. The empirical data comprise 24 hours of videorecorded booktalk in grades 4–7. In total, 40 children (aged 10–14 years) were recorded during 24 sessions. The present approach diverges from previous readerresponse studies in that it draws on authentic data, and in that it examines talk at a micro level, applying an approach from discursive psychology. By focusing on authentic book discussions, the study contributes to the development of readerresponse methods. All eight books applied in the booktalk sessions involved some type of  existential issue: freedom, separation, loyalty, and mortal danger (Chapter 4). Yet, such issues were rarely discussed. An important task of the present thesis was to understand why such issues did not materialise, that is, what did not take place. In Chapter 5, a series of booktalk dilemmas were identified. The booktalk sessions were generally lively and informal. Yet, booktalk as such was often transformed into other local educational projects; e.g. time scheduling, vocabulary lessons or reading aloud exercises. Gender was invoked in all booktalk sessions (Chapter 6). In line with predictions from reader-response theory, progressive texts were, at times, discussed in gender stereotypical ways. The findings also revealed a generational pattern in that the pupils discussed fictive children in less traditional ways than adult characters. The interface between texts and life was invoked in all booktalk sessions (Chapter 7). There was, again, a generational pattern in that children entertained ideas other than those of their teachers concerning legitimate topics in a school context. Also, the discussions revealed a problem of balance between pupils’ privacy, on the one hand, and engaging discussions on texts and life, on the other.

Förändringar i synen på bokprat för barn och unga. En diskursiv läsning av artiklar i Biblioteksbladet 1930-2007 / Changing viewpoints of booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters. A discursive reading of articles in Biblioteksbladet 1932-2007

Kamienski, Per-Jakob January 2010 (has links)
My thesis is a study of how the perception of booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters in the Swedish educational system has changed between 1932 and 2007. A discursive reading of articles in the magazine Biblioteksbladet provides the basis for my investigation. The thesis argues that an older "authoritaritan" and "traditional" discourse has given way for a more modern, "anti-authoritaritan" and "lust"-directed discourse. The older discourse was designed to make sure that young people were provided with a certain well-defined quantity of "approved" literature. The new discourse stresses the importance of fostering kids and youngsters with a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards reading in general. However the new discoruse is not without conflicts of its own, som e of which are addressed in this thesis. In order to provide for a basis of method concerning the making of a discursive reading of the articles of Biblioteksbladet included in the investigation are several discourse analytical perspectives such as amongst others that of Michel Foucault discussed in the thesis.
