This a muldisciplinary study with the objective of obtaining measurements of the left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV) diastolic diameter (Dd), systolic diameter (Ds), diastolic volume (Dv), systolic volume (Sv), ejection fraction (EF) and myocardial mass in Brazilians. One hundred and seven (54 men and 53 women, mean age of 43.4 ? 13.1 years) asymptomatic individuals without heart disease were submitted to cardiac magnetic resonance (cMR) studies using steady state free precession technique. The means and standard deviations of the parameters of the LV and RV were respectively: LVDD = 4,8 ? 0,5 cm; LVSD = 3,0?0,6 cm; LVDV = 128,4?29,6 ml; LVSV = 45,2?16,6 ml; LVEF = 65,5?6,3%; LV mass = 95,2?30,8.1 g; RVDD = 3,9?1,3 cm; RVSD = 2,5?0,5 cm; RVDV = 126,5?30,7 ml; RVSV = 53.6?18,4 ml; RVEF = 58.3?8,0.0% and RV mass = 26,1?6,1 g. The masses and volumes were significantly higher in men, except for the LVSV. The RV EF was significantly higher in women. There was inverse correlation between RV systolic volume and with age, being more significant in men. This study describes for the first time benchmarks for cardiac measurements obtained by CMR among asymptomatic Brazilians individuals without heart disease and demonstrated differences according to sex and age / N?o h? dados nacionais sobre medidas card?acas obtidas por Resson?ncia Magn?tica Card?aca (RMc).

Karray, Achraf 10 December 2008 (has links)
Abstract

The role of emotions mediating decision-making among successful poker players

Walsh, Alex January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (Ed.D.)--Boston University / This study was designed to explore the role of emotions mediating the decision-making process in poker. The research questions included: (1) What emotions are reported by poker players? (2) What are the poker-related predictors of the reported emotions? (3) How do the reported emotions influence decision-making? A qualitative approach was chosen for the eight intermediate poker players in the study. Data analyzed according to content analysis derived from semi-structured retrospective interviews and a think aloud protocol offered evidence that emotions impacted the decision-making process of intermediate poker players. Six distinct emotions were found to influence the decision-making process in poker: Pride, excitement, happiness, anxiety, frustration, and anger. Findings confirmed prior research of the role of frustration and anger in influencing suboptimal decision-making. Three main findings deviated from previous research: Positive emotions of pride and excitement were found to impact suboptimal decision-making, the negative emotion of anxiety was found to impact optimal decision-making, and the role of experience facilitated a healthier interpretation of, and reaction to, multiple emotions. The findings in this study provide practical and academic applications for researchers, poker players, and poker consultants. A number of different directions for future research are suggested, including more observation of naturalistic poker play, using real money for naturalistic poker play, and comparing the emotional experience of different stratum of experts and intermediates. Poker players could improve profit margins through using more active, facilitative forms of coping for strong emotional reactions, while poker consultants could help clients in proactively entering emotional zones that facilitate optimal decision-making. / 2019-09-01

Are the invdividuals who buy Triss rational by doing it?

Robin, Sjöblom January 2019 (has links)
This essay analyses the extent to which individuals who bought Triss in Värnamo at Hemköp are rational in their decision to buy Triss. The expected value was found to be lower than the price of the Triss ticket. The results from the experiment suggests the individuals act irrationally as they did not accept to exchange their Triss for another Triss and an additional Mini Triss. The data from the observation suggests that individuals with a winning Triss tend to exchange it for a new Triss when the amount won is relatively small. When the amount won was relatively larger, the more likely the individuals were to claim the money. When a jackpot Triss was sold in the store, there was no significant increase of sales of Triss in the store, hence the individuals in the store did act rational in the sense they did not buy more or less Triss because of the jackpot was sold in the store. The results found in this paper suggest that individuals who buy Triss acts with a bounded rationality since their decision of buying Triss are driven by emotions, poor understanding of probabilities and risk under uncertainties.

Cartão de crédito - aspectos contratuais / Credit Card- Contractual aspects

Azevedo, Renato Olimpio Sette de 05 June 2007 (has links)
Despite being a recent creation, credit cards rise as one of the most used means of payment, besides being instruments of credit viabilization in the current society. There is a relevant differentiation to be observed between credit cards, plastic pieces, and the credit card system. While the former only refers to the legitimation document, that is, to the physical instrument capable of evidencing a relationship existing between the card holder and the issuer, one of the contracts that integrate the system, the latter is the product of the linked contracts that allow the operation execution. Besides that already indicated contract, the contract between suppliers and issuers and the contract between suppliers and holders form, in a basic model, the contracted involved in the operation, functionally linked, that is, although keeping their formal structure segmented, they form a set that feasibilizes the operation. The involved contracts, despite the social typicity, with the reiteration of similar contractings, involving the same rights and obligations that identify the model, are legally atypical, as the considerations involved do not allow identification with the legal types currently ascertained, nor similarity allowing application of their own rules, there being, in the Brazilian laws, the validity of general norms and principles governing the contracts and obligations involved. The linked contracts require a re-understanding of the traditional principles directed towards and applicable to atomized contracts, with various effects for the study of credit card contracts and for the quest for solutions, even for traditionally controvert issues.

Superendividamento do consumidor: análise das decisões do Superior Tribunal de Justiça acerca do contrato de cartão de crédito / Consumer overindebtedness: analysis of the decisions of Superior Tribunal de Justiça about the credit card contract

Faneco, Lívia Carvalho da Silva 29 August 2016 (has links)
Undertakes the analysis of judgments about the credit card agreement as a means of preventing or treating consumer over-indebtedness, as the contract represents the largest debt of Brazilian consumers. The research consisted of a literature review of over-indebtedness and the contract of credit card and documentary empirical research of the decisions of the Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ). The method used was content analysis, including the development of previously established reading summaries. The sumaries were listed according to the subject matter of the judgment. We obtained a total of seven (7) analysis groups: revisional actions, compensation claims, actions related to abusive practices, accountability actions, document display actions, charging actions and declaratory absence of debts. From the data analysis, the following conclusions can be surmised: 1. The over-indebtedness issue is not yet part of the Court\'s repertoire and was not even alleged by the parties in any case. 2. Most of the cases are compensation claims than merely discuss the exorbitant or negligible amount of compensation. 3. The Court\'s decisions are repeatedly hindered by Precedents 5 and 7 of the STJ. 4. Revisional actions treat only about the interest rate on credit card contracts.

Improving results of project portfolio management in the public sector using a balanced strategic scoring model

Norrie, James, not supplied January 2006 (has links)
This thesis suggests improvements, from a strategic perspective, to the practice of scoring projects in public sector organisations. It is argues that current approaches, notably project portfolio managing (PPM), are inadequate for many such organisations, and in fact prone to problems and failure. In particular, present scoring/prioritization approaches in such contexts, largely tend to focus on financial risk/return logic. It is argued that the end result of such a ranking approach is often a non-strategic portfolio project. To address these problems, the candidate proposed the refinement of the scoring approach for project portfolios via the incorporation of Kaplan & Norton's ideas in their Balanced Scorecard (BSC). BSC introduces, apart from purely financial considerations, other 'softer' perspectives (customer, internal business processes, learning and growth) which in combination place a more inclusive emphasis on the vision and strategy of the organisation. In this thesis, it is proposed that the combined PPM and BSC scoring approach amounts to more strategic project selection. Several case studies are conducted to illustrate the merits of the combined PPM/BSC logic. These include case studies in both private and public sector organisations.

Design of a Compact Flash Module

Jafari Harandi, Arash January 2004 (has links)
<p>The combination of the existing mobile system and the IEEE standard for WLAN makes way for development of the 4th generation mobile systems. Access for laptop-users to WLAN is today a reality giving a taste of that new generation. Designing a product that introduces WLAN networking for handheld computers would be a major step in the development spoken of. Accommodating existing WLAN PC Card for laptops to handheld PDAs gives a short time to market. Therefore a product prototype for a compact flash module was designed and manufactured to make way for the 4th generation indoor networking facilities on the market.</p>

The Murdering Hero - A Study of Heroism in Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game

Lindberg, Susanne January 2007 (has links)
<p>The essay intends to problematize the notion of heroism in Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game by contemplating the hero himself as well as his enemies. Particular focus will be placed on the good and evil dichotomy, arguing that it is essential to the heroic tale since the hero is supposed to fight evil and foster good. Seeing that Ender is also a murderer, the matter debated will be that he both is and is not a hero.</p>
