Andersson, Zarah January 2022 (has links)
This essay is about the discussion concerning graduation celebrations in The Swedish Church. Since this discussion is recurrent in the media when it is getting close to the end of the term in the Swedish schools, it is interesting to see how people choose to discuss this issue. This essay will look at how this issue is discussed within the Swedish school and the Swedish church. My research questions that I will use are: How is the issue of the church as a venue for the end of school year discussed in the Swedish Church's newspaper and in the Teachers' Union's trade magazine, Läraren.  This will be done through a content analysis of articles taken from these two newspapers where they discuss the church as a venue for the graduation. I will use a secularization theory developed by the sociologist of religion Thomas Luckmann in which he assumes that one can look at religion from two perspectives, church-oriented religion, and individual-centered religion. The survey in this paper shows that most people are in favor of using the church as a venue for the graduation’s celebrations and that they see it more as a tradition to be there such as something religious.

BRUNO DA SILVEIRA ALBUQUERQUE 03 October 2019 (has links)
[en] The thesis discusses the relationship between the cultic and the sociopolitical dimensions of the Christian faith, expressed in the historical itinerary of the Assemblies of God in Brazil, in the light of the confrontation of anthropological dualism, in view of its necessary overcoming. The research work undertook a theological rereading of the ways in which the denomination in focus developed expressions of Christian faith in the Brazilian religious field. The research also evaluated this specific Church s participation in the public sphere. We identified in this context an instrumentalization of both worship and politics. Thus, such instrumentalization satisfies some of the logics that carry the mark of dualism. Therefore, our research presents a proposal for an integrated articulation between the described dimensions, including the process of overcoming dualism as a discernment and practical consequence of the action of the Holy Spirit in the Church. In this sense, the theological path to an integrated Pentecostal experience is delineated.

A study of Shona war fiction : the writer's perspectives

Chigidi, Willie L. 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis is an in-depth study of Shona fiction about the liberation war in Zimbabwe. It looks at the way Zimbabwe’s liberation war is portrayed in Shona fiction and focuses on the factors that shaped writers’ perspectives on that war. It is argued that Shona war fiction writers romanticised the war and in the process simplified and distorted history. The researcher postulates that writers’ perspectives on this liberation war were shaped by factors that include the mood of celebration and euphoria, the dominant ideology of the time, the situations of independence and freedom, and literary competitions. The thesis further raises and illustrates the point that writers produced romances of adventure because they were writing on the theme of war, and if one writes on the theme of war one ends up writing an adventure story. However, it is also acknowledged that because authors were writing on a historical event they could not ignore history completely. Some aspects of history are incorporated into the fiction, thereby retaining a semblance of historical realism. The post-independence period is also seen as a time of cultural revival and this is considered as the reason behind the authors’ tendency to celebrate Shona traditional institutions and culture. The celebration of Shona traditional religion and culture introduced into the fiction the element of the supernatural that strengthened the romance aspect of the novels. Shona war fiction writers also perpetuate female stereotyping. Female characters are depicted as everything except guerrilla fighters. It is argued that there are no female characters that play roles of guerrilla fighters because during the actual war women were not visible at the war front, fighting. The thesis argues that men, who were pioneers of the guerrilla war and writers of the war stories, excluded women from liberation war discourse and ultimately from literary discourse as well. A few writers who comment on the quality of Zimbabwe’s independence and freedom show the disillusionment and despair of the peasants and ex-combatants as they struggled to settle down and recover from the war. / African Languages / D.Litt. et Phil.

The sacrifice of the mass and the concept of sacrifice among the Xhosa : towards an inculturated understanding of the eucharist

Sipuka, Sithembele 11 1900 (has links)
The last Supper Jesus had with his disciples on the night before he died on the cross is the foundation of a major liturgical celebration in the Catholic Church called 'the Eucharist'. One of the major designations of the Eucharist is that it is a sacrifice. The starting point of this work is that the sacrificial character of the Eucharist is not as meaningful and relevant for Xhosa people as it should be. The way forward is to study the Eucharistic and Xhosa sacrifices, compare them and suggest ways of rendering the Eucharistic sacrifice meaningful and relevant to Xhosa the people. Although not conclusive, the New Testament gives a strong foundation for the sacrificial understanding of the Eucharist. The Eucharist, as interpreted through the Last Supper accounts, covers all the conventional intentions of sacrifice, i.e. propitiation, communion, thanksgiving and mutual responsibility. The Fathers of the Church affirm the sacrificial character of the Eucharist with varying emphases, but taken together, their understanding shows development of thought and complementarity of themes. In the Middle Ages the most pronounced intention of the . Eucharistic sacrifice is propitiation and post Tridentine theological reflection is informed by this mentality. According to modem and contemporary thought, Christ's death on the cross, which is sacrarnentally represented in the Eucharist, is not an act performed on our behalf to appease an angry God but God's act of love towards us. The emphasis is on self-offering to God as exemplified by Christ. The Xhosa people still have regard for sacrificial rituals, but modernity has modified and sometimes changed their understanding and practice of sacrifice. The principle of God's universal salvific will and the doctrine of incarnation provide theological grounds for inculturating the Eucharist. Thus the inclusion of ancestors and use of cultural symbols in the celebration of the Eucharist may render it meaningful to Xhosa people. Relating the Eucharist to Xhosa culture will revitalise the communion element in Eucharistic sacrifice, which element has been lost sight of through the centuries. Eucharistic sacrifice in its turn will help Xhosa Catholics to have a deepened understanding of sacrifice that extends beyond performance of rituals to include self-giving. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / D.Th.(Systematic Theology)

However, it is often noticed that there is a separation among personal, social life and religion, affecting the way communities celebrate, where people's lives are not tied to the liturgy and the latter, in turn, is not tied to people´s lives The believer´s life and the history of the humanity are not understood as Passover connected to the Passover of Jesus. Therefore, by analyzing documents 43 and 52 of the Brazilian Bishops and some elements of the liturgical tradition, as well as in the Church General Magisterium about life in the celebration, the aim of this paper is to highlight elements that encourage the integration between life and liturgy, especially regarding the Sunday Celebration of God´s Word. Such search will also verify that the liturgy celebrates the Passover happening in people's lives and history without making use of its authenticity and that the Sunday Celebration of God‟s Word authenticity resides in celebrating life as a Paschal process, as a passage from death to life, thanks to the liberating intervention of God. This paper also intends to state that the relation between liturgy and life helps the People of God, who participate in the celebrations, to existentially penetrate in the Mystery, manifesting it later on in their own lives‟ conducts / The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, by means of Documents 43 and 52, inspires the ecclesial communities and guides their celebrations.

Raventós Freixa, Jordi 31 March 2006 (has links)
The subject of this work is the factor of the celebration in the joint of musical practices in Barcelona in a context that extends from century XV to the XVIII. Concretely, it is centered in the denominated "Real Entrances", public celebrations that occurred in the first visit of the monarch in reason for the oath of the privileges of the city. The election of this object is justified by its potential to connect with thought forms that affect the most generic debate the processes of attribution of meanings to music. These celebrations were an important collective cultural manifestation in which common musical practices to the other more regular celebrations were used and than they conformed the festive general system: the support of the courtship by sets of trumpets and drums, the musical interventions within the framework of the representations made to the vestibule of the city and cradles in the religious medieval theater, the parades of the unions and brotherhoods, that participated with music and the dances of the "entremeses" of the Corpus, as well as the dances deprived in the palaces or public in the streets and seats that during the later days the set of the activities completed.
