The Chopis' journey: Restoring identity through Theology and Mission

Macamo, Marcos Efraim 02 1900 (has links)
This work discusses the dilemma of the Chopi people, who despite having a rich cultural heritage, were marginalized by other people, owing to menial labour they have done, such as the removal of faeces and grave digging for the city of Maputo. There is a contrast between the Chopis who were historically an exceptional people in rural Mozambique and the rejected and excluded people they have become in the city. This study attempts, to revert this situation, through a participative process of research, action and change, and highlights some aspects related to their cultural and religious identity. Contributing factors to their predicament are political, economic, social and religious in nature. My work entails an intense endeavour towards renewing identity regarding their understanding of employment, through theology and mission in a contextual approach. Transformation and the renewal of the values of the Chopi people are crucial towards this end. / Missiology / M.Th. (Missiology-Specialisation in Urban Ministry)

When the church understands its city : an empirical-theological study of context analysis using the example of Kirche fűr Bonn (Church for Bonn)

Schwindt, Erwin 02 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the context analysis as a method for missional church ministry. The focus is on the question how groups of vol-unteers from the Kirche für Bonn perceive and evaluate the context analysis. The discussion of contextual theology serves as a theological derivation. The cycle of society-relevant church ministry is then explained, which is a theoretical foundation as well as a practical guide for the ministry of the Kirche für Bonn. On the basis of an empirical-theological cycle of practice a qualitative study of a group discussion is conducted and analyzed by the documentary method. The results lead to theses and guidelines for the use of context analysis. In addition, the study aims to provide a missiological contribution by bringing the results into a dialog with contextual theology and proposing context analysis as an ad-equate method for the missional practice of the church. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Facing homeless people in the inner City of Tshwane : a missiological conversation with the Wesleyan tradition

Ntakirutimana, Ezekiel 12 1900 (has links)
This study was conducted within the pressing social conditions of human vulnerability manifested in a worsening situation of homelessness which forces homeless people into a deplorable life in the inner city of Tshwane. The study is not a detailed strategic plan to design support services that could improve the situation. It is rather about imagining alternative ways to journey with homeless people in their struggle to regain their humanity; hence the title: Facing homeless people in the inner city of Tshwane. Chapter 2 analyses homelessness in the inner city of Tshwane, locating it within the bigger picture of the City of Tshwane. It takes into account the poverty that drives poor people to the margins, resulting in further human degradation. It exposes the adverse conditions that homeless people endure due to the absence of a social support net. The study obtained its information primarily from conversations with homeless people and with practitioners in church based organisations dedicated to addressing homelessness. Out of these conversations, five different causes of homelessness emerged, ranging from economic and political, to health, social and cultural factors. Chapter 3 describes a number of church-based initiatives in the inner city of Tshwane that address the situation of homeless people, analysing their strengths and weaknesses in responding to the causes of homelessness as identified in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 describes a number of church-based initiatives in the inner city of Tshwane that address the situation of homeless people, analysing their strengths and weaknesses in responding to the causes of homelessness as identified in Chapter 2. Chapter 4 develops an urban theological vision in response to this situation, in the light of the notions of holiness and hospitality in the Wesleyan tradition. Contemplating this teaching, a framework was generated for the journey of the inner city church with homeless people in their efforts to regain humanity, by prioritising economic, political, health, social, and educational strategies. This chapter highlights the fact that John Wesley’s Methodist movement campaigned for the abolition of African slavery. It also journeyed with poor and vulnerable people like widows, orphans and prisoners, using Methodist “Societies” and “Classes” to integrate them into society. Finally, Chapter 5 presents an integrative urban theological vision and a set of contextual strategies for the inner city church to journey with homeless people, following the horizons of human liberation developed in earlier chapters. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th. Mission in an African city: discovering the township church as an asset towards local economic development in Tshwane

Mangayi, Lukwikilu 09 1900 (has links)
This multidisciplinary, applied study investigated whether the township church can be repositioned or re-discovered as an asset, which could be used to form strong community structures in local communities and in turn be the foundation for community development and Local Economic Development (LED) for Tshwane (specifically Soshanguve and Hammanskraal (S&H)). The concept of oikos is of central importance in the understanding of the ecological dimension of mission in relation to LED and was used in this thesis defined as oikomissiology which has a Christological basis and broadens the scope of mission by reinterpreting missio Dei and various socio-theological themes in order to realise the vision of collective wellbeing or shalom). Oikomissiology provided a framework / worldview for analysis, description, reflection and planning for action which releases the world, economics, the church and conventional Christian theology / missiology from the traps of anthropocentrism. A narrative approach enabled the “uncovering” of the voices of grassroots communities, giving grassroots participants (i.e. local church ministry representatives) freedom to tell their stories and share their experiences as far as LED is concerned, such that major economic concepts were spoken of in these stories in laymen’s language. The narratives were supplemented by interviews with experienced practitioners and church leaders, which resulted in gaining richer perspectives on LED and on how township congregations that participated in this research are attempting to respond to current socioeconomic crises in Tshwane (S & H). A literature study and a study of the physical space were performed in dialogue with narratives and interview findings. The findings of this applied study established that the township church, in relation to other community organisations and structures, is an asset that could play a number of vital roles towards improving LED in Tshwane (S & H). / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th. Dienende Leiterschaft im interkultureller Spannung / Servant leadership in intercultural tension

Klassen, Eldon August 05 1900 (has links)
This research defines a servant and intercultural leadership. Written materials has been gathered, studied and compared, so that they prove their mutual compatibility. From this developed position and their comparison, some possible tensions have been appointed that occur in a cross-cultural context which may be implicated in a servant and intercultural leadership. In the case study, the history of the MBG Volendam is displayed under the aspects of leadership and cross-cultural missionary work. This case study shows how the servant leadership was implemented in a church and its missionary activity. Finally, this implementation of a servant leadership in church and in an intercultural context was evaluated. Based on this research in literature, the case study and its evaluation, some guidelines have been listed for the application of a servant leadership in an intercultural context. This research aims to contribute to establish a servant leadership in an intercultural context. At the same time it shows how this has worked in the context of a Christian community and their intercultural mission. / Practical Theology / M. Th. (Theological ethics (Christian leadership))

Zukunft der protestantischen Denominationen in Hamburg / Identity and future of the Protestant denominations in Hamburg

Wolff, Matthias Christian 12 1900 (has links)
This MTh dissertation titled Identity and Future of Protestant Denominations in Hamburg deals with the development of protestant churches in Hamburg and the picture, the protestant landscape is possibly heading for. Initial point is a number of observations giving room for the supposition that denominational differences will loose their importance and protestant cooperation as well as a common christian identity will gain relevance. The survey put special attention on the relationship of liberal and conservative (evangelical) protestants. The empirical research, using the method of Grounded Theory, as well as the widespread literacy investigation served for – generally speaking – a confirmation of the hypothesis. As a result, it appears a perspective of a church that is strongly orientated towards the needs of society and carried by a clear awareness of the common testimony of Christ and a distinct ecumenical spirit. Besides the goal of a valid and empirically based future perspective, this work intends to be a decision aid and discussion paper for christian leaders in Hamburg and Germany. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Reverse mission? : introduction to African perspectives and the reception in Germany

Ehmann, Matthias 02 1900 (has links)
The study describes and reflects a phenomenon of African Missions to Europe, which is often called “reverse mission”, from a missiological perspective. For this purpose it describes and compares three relevant Africanrooted perspectives in order to catch this not jet well researched phenomenon. The results are interpreted missiological and the reception of the phenomenon in German speaking theology and in German churches is researched in order to identify, which aspects of the international discourse are attracting special interest in Germany and which missiological views are advanced. On that basis perspectives and desiderata for the future discourse on the way to a multicultural mission movement are named. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th.
