Kitsune: Structurally-Aware and Adaptable Plagiarism DetectionJanuary 2020 (has links)
abstract: Plagiarism is a huge problem in a learning environment. In programming classes especially, plagiarism can be hard to detect as source codes' appearance can be easily modified without changing the intent through simple formatting changes or refactoring. There are a number of plagiarism detection tools that attempt to encode knowledge about the programming languages they support in order to better detect obscured duplicates. Many such tools do not support a large number of languages because doing so requires too much code and therefore too much maintenance. It is also difficult to add support for new languages because each language is vastly different syntactically. Tools that are more extensible often do so by reducing the features of a language that are encoded and end up closer to text comparison tools than structurally-aware program analysis tools.
Kitsune attempts to remedy these issues by tying itself to Antlr, a pre-existing language recognition tool with over 200 currently supported languages. In addition, it provides an interface through which generic manipulations can be applied to the parse tree generated by Antlr. As Kitsune relies on language-agnostic structure modifications, it can be adapted with minimal effort to provide plagiarism detection for new languages. Kitsune has been evaluated for 10 of the languages in the Antlr grammar repository with success and could easily be extended to support all of the grammars currently developed by Antlr or future grammars which are developed as new languages are written. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Software Engineering 2020

Detecting Internet visual plagiarism in higher education photography with Google™ Search by Image : proposed upload methods and system evaluationVan Heerden, Leanri. January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (M. Tech. (Design and Studio Art)) - Central University of Technology, Free State, 2014 / The Information Age has presented those in the discipline of photography with very many advantages. Digital photographers enjoy all the perquisites of convenience while still producing high-quality images. Lecturers find themselves the authorities of increasingly archaic knowledge in a perpetual race to keep up with technology. When inspiration becomes imitation and visual plagiarism occurs, lecturers may find themselves at a loss for taking action as content-based image retrieval systems, like Google™ Search by Image (SBI), have not yet been systematically tested for the detection of visual plagiarism. Currently there exists no efficacious method available to photography lecturers in higher education for detecting visual plagiarism. As such, the aim of this study is to ascertain the most effective uploading methods and precision of the Google™ SBI system which lecturers can use to establish a systematic workflow that will combat visual plagiarism in photography programmes. Images were selected from the Google™ Images database by means of random sampling and uploaded to Google™ SBI to determine if the system can match the images to their Internet source. Each of the images received a black and white conversion, a contrast adjustment and a hue shift to ascertain whether the system can also match altered images. Composite images were compiled to establish whether the system can detect images from the salient feature. Results were recorded and the precision values calculated to determine the system’s success rate and accuracy. The results were favourable and 93.25% of the adjusted images retrieved results with a precision value of 0.96. The composite images had a success rate of 80% when uploaded intact with no dissections and a perfect precision value of 1.00. Google™ SBI can successfully be used by the photography lecturer as a functional visual plagiarism detection system to match images unethically appropriated by students from the Internet.

Enchanting Pieces. : Miniature Copies in Augustus III's Art Collection from a Material and Contextual PerspectiveKluge, Linnéa Madita January 2024 (has links)
This master thesis examines miniature copies of large-scale paintings as a means of demonstrating knowledge, taste and power at the Saxon court during the reign of Augustus III. In two steps it sheds light on the processes behind the making and collecting of a type of miniature painting that has otherwise been disregarded by art historical research. With the help of five case studies from the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden and a theoretical approach rooted in materiality and contextual studies, it draws the attention of miniature research to the fact that miniature copies were not simple reproductions but the complex results of a multifaceted and prestigious production process. The study thus contributes to a broadened understanding of copies in miniature as valued art objects on their behalf as well as to position them in the larger framework of the 18th century's desire for art, connoisseurship and collecting.

Studies on lexical spelling acquisition have two aims: analyzing the cognitive mechanisms involved in this learning and understanding the processes on which they are based. Dictation and copying are known to be tasks leading to acquire orthographic knowledge. They are used by teachers and researchers. If some specific task models report on cognitive processes involved in verbal written production, they do not allow to get a comparative vision. This thesis aims at examining dictation and copying in the process of lexical orthographic learning. The model we propose includes the two tasks (dictation and copying) and the different underlying memories. We analysed the productions of children of 1st and 2nd grades under dictation according to 4 training conditions: dictation without training, reading aloud, reading aloud and copying, just copying. Children were asked to produce words or pseudowords. Words were selected according to their orthographic complexity and familiarity or their frequency, and pseudowords were more or less complex. Overall, experiments 1, 2 and 3 point out an effect of both grade and training. But, in experiment 4, copying doesn’t seem better than reading aloud: copying could be efficient only when combined with reading aloud. If the association of decoding and copying seems to be the best training to get orthographic knowledge, one might wonder about the presence of a graphomotor representation linked with lexical representation in Long Term Memory. This presence could explain why we need to write a word when we are sceptical about its spelling.

Piratkopiering - en oändlig historia?Akermark, Adam, Svensson, Martin January 2006 (has links)
Software-, game- and music industry are experiencing troubled times at the moment. Today, a practically ignorant person would have no problems to get hold of a newly published record before it reaches the stores because of the</p><p>illegal copying. This problem is made possible due to that no good solution exists. Copy protection isn’t good enough and peer-to-peer-networks are bigger than ever. In this work we will examine specifically the music industry.</p><p>Purpose: We will specialize in the term of illegal copying. Further we want to enlight and inform the music industry as well as the users of the problem and it´s future. We hope the result we will achieve can be a foundation for further research.</p><p>Realization: We have gathered our information from articles on the Internet and also from updated literature. Interviews were made over the phone with Magnus Mårtensson, IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), Anna Burén, lawyer of copyright at</p><p>Swedish Radio, Per Sandin, General manager EMI marketing and also a lot of Internetsuppliers. We have also compilated an inquiry which has been replied to by many people.</p><p>Conclusion: Many of the buyers from the past consider the cost of a CD far too high. Instead they have discovered the illegal copying and its unlimited functions. They have also realized how easy you can get new music without reprisals, which mostly depends on the vague and</p><p>not to scary laws. Music companies are losing money and therefore they raise the prize of a single CD, simultaneously as they work to find the perfect copy protection. The future looks uncertain and for the moment, those who are copying along with peer-to-peer-networks have</p><p>all the trumps.</p><p>Keywords: mp3, CD, copy-protection, peer-to-peer-networks, copyright, illegal copying, music companies.</p>
