Effects Of Ambivalent Sexism, Locus Of Control, Empathy, And Belief In A Just World On Attitudes Toward Rape Victims

Yalcin, Zeynep Sila 01 February 2006 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this present study was to investigate the effects of ambivalent sexism, locus of control, empathy and belief in a just world on attitudes toward rape victims. In order to do so, 425 graduate and undergraduate students at Middle East Technical University participated in the current study. The results of the study indicated that hostile sexism (&amp / #946 / = .47), empathy (&amp / #946 / = -.28), education (&amp / #946 / = -.22), internal locus of control (&amp / #946 / = .10), belief in a just world (&amp / #946 / = .10), benevolent sexism (&amp / #946 / = .10) and income (&amp / #946 / = -.09) had a significant contribution on the participants&rsquo / unfavorable attitudes toward rape victims after eliminating the effects of age and education. Additional analysis further revealed that male participants demonstrated significantly more endorsement on unfavorable attitudes toward rape victims than female participants. The main effect of pornography viewing on attitudes toward rape victims was not found significant. However, the results further indicated that there was a significant interaction effect among gender, pornography viewing and empathy. That is, in the high victim empathy condition male participants who had been exposed to pornography scored significantly higher on unfavorable attitudes toward rape victims than those who had never been exposed to it. On the other hand, in the high empathy condition, female participants who viewed pornography showed less endorsement on unfavorable attitudes toward rape victims than those who never viewed pornography. Finally, the results of the study indicated that the interaction effects of pornography viewing and hostile sexism were significant. Indeed, in the high hostile sexism condition, both male and female participants who were exposed to pornography showed significantly greater endorsement on unfavorable attitudes toward rape victims when compared to those who did not watch pornography. The major contributions of this thesis are (1) investigating some of the effects of important demographic variables such as age, education and income, (2) comparing the unique contributions of locus of control, empathy, belief in a just world, hostile and benevolent sexism with a hierarchical regression analysis, and (3) showing the interaction effects of some variables like gender, pornography viewing, levels of empathy and hostile sexism on participants&rsquo / attitudes toward rape victims.

Evaluation of images by similarity Structural and the concept of Minimum Perceptible Color Difference.

Renata Caminha Coelho Souza 20 October 2009 (has links)
Objective image quality evaluation is of special interest in many image applications, for example for image compression, where it can be used to control the rate in order to keep a tradeoff between lost of data and image quality; another example is in the application of watermarks, i.e., introduction of descriptive information used to guarantee the authenticity of an image, that must be invisible to the observer who looks at the image. SSIM (Structural SIMilarity) index is a full-reference image quality assessment metric developed to evaluate gray images. This work investigates the application of SSIM in the evaluation of color images. Therefore, four different color spaces are tested RGB, YCbCr, Lαβ e CIELAB. Initially SSIM is calculated individually for each one of color spaces channels. Then, inspired in (1), the results of the SSIM in the individual channels are combined in a unique result the so called Composite SSIM. Finally, in order to improve the correlations between, calculated using CIELAB color space, together with SSIM. Three color image databases, LIVE, IVC and TID, were employed in the tests in order to confer solidity to the results. The evaluation of the results is made using VQEG (Video Quality Experts Group) methodology, developed for video quality evaluation with an adaptation regarding the time dimension that does not exist in the image domain. The conclusions from the work were that SSIM performs better in the evaluation of color images when applied to luminance channel of YCbCr, Lαβ and especially to CIELAB color spaces. It was also concluded that the use of just noticeable difference concept improve objective assessment results.

A network transparent, retained mode multimedia processing framework for the Linux operating system environment

Bahmann, Helge 27 July 2009 (has links) (PDF)

Vizzotto, Andrea Teichmann January 2018 (has links)
Contemporary society is in transition. The modern, cartesian and positivist world, gives way to postmodern conduct, in which liquidity and ephemerality stand out. Capital molds to this transformation, maintaining the symbiotic relationship with public institutions and influencing state decisions. In urban space, this transformation translates into conflict and inequality of access to land, infrastructure and public services. This situation is exacerbated by the lack of effectiveness and the inefficiency of the State. The goal of this work is to investigate the role of the Brazilian State, Law and Justice, influenced by capital, towards to the just city, in postmodern society. Through the examination of the Brazilian legal system, which presupposes equality, justice, social solidarity and popular participation as expressed in the constitutional principles, it is sought to verify the evolution and effectiveness of the administrative procedure for the recovery of urban surplus value. In this regard, it is used the process of implantation, execution and expansion of the Shopping Center Iguatemi, in the city of Porto Alegre, analyzing the materiality of the fair distribution of the onus and benefits emerging from the process of urbanization, as one of the means to reach of the just city.

Commerce équitable et prix juste / Fair Trade and Just Price

Pouchain, Delphine 24 October 2013 (has links)
Fair trade aims at creating fairer market relationships, by establishing what is considered to be the just price. By promoting exchanges on an equitable basis, through international partnerships grounded in a desire for justice, fair trade highlights the need for new thinking on the notions of justice and equity. In a world dominated by the theories of distributive justice, it shows the interest of a theory of commutative justice, of justice in the exchange. Fair trade enables us to demonstrate that neoclassical, institutionalist and Rawlsian theories of justice often fail to distinguish between justice and adjustment, accuracy, compassion and equity, and drift towards political theories of justice. Fair trade shows that the Aristotelian distinction between a good and a bad economy is still relevant, but more importantly it reveals the fact that the good economy is enduring, and has not completely disappeared under bad chrematistic. Economic agents have a taste for justice, for a “good” exchange. Because fair trade seeks to restore the possibility of an economy preserved from bad chrematistic and framed in practical Aristotelianism, it shows us the necessity for a theory of justice in economic exchanges and ultimately leads us to consider the notion of moral perfectionism.

La grille de lecture de l'économie de marché et du capitalisme chez Aristote, A. Smith, K. Marx et F. Braudel / The reading grid on the concept of Market Economy and Capitalism in Aristotle, A.Smith, K.Marx and F.Braudel

Shin, Hyun-Tak 03 May 2012 (has links)
Our study is an reading grid of our main founders of political economy, Aristotle, and this A.Smith and K.Marx and this, through a French historian, F.Braudel, his conceptual tools and problematic issues, in particular, the tripartite of the Economy - Material life, Market economy and Capitalism – he has defended in his book "Material Civilization, Economy and Capitalism XVth-XVIIIth century." We perform a braudelian proofreading or revisits in the source of political economy and of its three main founders mentioned above. We try to verify certain interpretations of theirs concepts of "Market Economy". Our study focus on the relation between the Economics and the Social ethics in our founders of political economy.
