"Kör" : En interaktionsanalys om makt i rollspelet Dungeons and Dragons / "Go ahead" : A conversation analysis about power in the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons and DragonsWidingsjö, Emelie January 2023 (has links)

Role for SEL: using Dungeons & Dragons® to promote social-emotional learning with middle-schoolersChilana, Harjas Kaur 10 May 2022 (has links)
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is an essential area of development for adolescents. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) presents a well-researched, broad, conceptual framework for systemic social and emotional learning (CASEL, 2020), which has been used to guide the development and implementation of the proposed pilot. It identifies five competencies of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships skills, and responsible decision-making. The CASEL framework also emphasizes the importance of coordinating SEL across key settings and contexts—classroom, schools, families, and communities. Lack of SEL can have suboptimal effects during adolescence and later in life, consequently, impacting occupational engagement.
A literature review on SEL found that appropriate SEL programming results in positive outcomes, such as improved school-related attitudes and behaviors, increased academic performance, decreased negative behaviors, and less reports of emotional distress (Durlak et al., 2010, 2011). Additionally, various school-related professions address SEL, however, there is limited evidence of occupational therapy practitioners’ involvement in the literature. Thus, adolescents’ occupational needs relating to SEL may not be being addressed.
Play’s significance in developing adolescents’ skills is rooted in SEL. Play “develop[s] physical coordination, emotional maturity, social skills to interact with other children, and self-confidence to try new experiences and explore new environments” (AOTA, 2012, p.1). Dungeons & Dragons® (D&D) is a popular table-top role-playing game, which draws interest from many adolescents and adults. A second literature review found that play interventions for adolescents, and research using D&D appears to be limited.
Role for SEL is a play-based intervention group using D&D (5th ed.) developed to promote SEL. In the pilot program, three to five middle-school students will participate in 90-minute after-school sessions, for 10 weeks. Participants will learn how to play D&D, receive explicit instruction on two SEL competencies (self-management and relationship skills) and engage in D&D scenarios and campaigns designed to support development in the relevant SEL areas. The author’s proposed pilot program has the potential to improve adolescents’ SEL and occupational engagement. This doctoral project discusses the case for the proposed pilot program, and presents a detailed overview of Role for SEL.

PRONOMEN & DRAKAR : Queerinklusivt Språk i Bordsrollspel / PRONOUNS & DRAGONS : Queer-Inclusive Language in Tabletop Role-playing GamesFredriksson, Niklas, Ehnberg Ahola, Saga-Li January 2024 (has links)

A study on how beginner-friendly character creation is in the editions 3.5 and 5ELindgren, Oskar, Schulman, Teodor January 2024 (has links)

Smith (1919, loc 1980) believed the dragon reflected society?s fears and aspirations of the last fifty centuries and beyond, because dragons evolved along with civilization itself. This dissertation investigates the representations of notable dragons from different contexts and concludes that there is a connection between the imaginary about dragons and men?s relationship with nature. Chen Rong and the Transformation of Nine DragonsJanuary 2012 (has links)
abstract: This dissertation is the first detailed and extensive study dedicated to the life and art of the master artist and scholar-official Chen Rong (active 13th century), and offers an expanded analysis of his most famous work, the Nine Dragons scroll (1244). It provides a reconstruction of Chen Rong's biography, character and political career, and discusses his significance and impact in the study of Chinese painting during the late Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279) and beyond, by highlighting the reception and interpretation of the Nine Dragons scroll in the past and in modern times. This is achieved by addressing writings such as eulogies, poems and commentary about Chen Rong by his contemporaries and later biographers, and also analysis of recent works by contemporary Chinese artists that reinterpret Chen Rong's Nine Dragons motif directly. In addition to offering an expanded reading and interpretation of Chen Rong's inscriptions on the Nine Dragons scroll and inscriptions by subsequent viewers of the scroll, this study sheds light on the artistic context, significance, and historical development of dragons and dragon painting in China. This dissertation also offers the first full English transcription and translation of Emperor Qianlong's inscription on the Nine Dragons scroll, and that of his eight officials. Furthermore, this dissertation includes two detailed appendices; one is a detailed appendix of all of Chen Rong's paintings documented to exist today, and the second is a list of paintings attributed to Chen Rong that have been mentioned in historical documents that no longer appear extant. This interdisciplinary study provides insight into the processes that influence how an artist's work is transformed beyond his time to that of legendary status. This clarification of Chen Rong's biography and artistic activity, particularly with respect to his most famous work the Nine Dragons scroll, contributes to modern scholarship by providing an expanded understanding of Chen Rong's life and art, which in turn, adjusts prevailing perceptions of his life and work. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Art History 2012

Previous issue date: 2015-04-28 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / The historic uniform of the Independence Dragons was established by the Brazilian
Army and it is worn in the contemporary times. Inserted into the legislation by means of
an Annex, it is subject to the general rules regarding uniforms as well as to its own,
which are, in a way, and because of its characteristics of shared clothing, divergent and
more permissive. This gives this uniform special features that, combined with diacritical
and symbolic functions found within it, signal to a proper regime of visualities in the
military environment. Moreover, the definition of a uniform can have different
meanings according to the place from where it is seen. Thus, received by the Visual
Culture Studies, this uniform can reveal itself without any fear, show its hidden faces
and establish an open, frank and interdisciplinary dialog in order to suspend beliefs and
to have a fair battle in the Arena.

This dissertation was developed through the analysis of the tension between illusion and reality present in the book of short stories Os Dragões não Conhecem o Paraíso, by Caio Fernando Abreu. We studied how the ideas of illusion and, among them, mainly the ones of love and paradise, were approached during the execution of the stories in focus. Our theoretical foundation is the book The Real and its Double, by Clément Rosset, in which we could apprehend a range of daily issues as being illusions, or reality‘s doubles. In a second moment, we observed the way these illusions appear in the contemporary subjectivity, and how various texts by Caio Fernando Abreu are currently suffering modifications in their interpretation, being segmented and treated as actual oracles in many sites and socials networks. Apart from Russet, the French romantic poet Baudelaire also contributed to this second chapter with his concept of the artificial paradises. We also adopted as references of literary and cultural theory the following authors: Heloisa Buarque de Holanda, who gave support about the Brazilian political situation in the time Caio Fernando acted; Pierre Lévy, Katherine Hayles and Roger Chartier gave us the basis to analyze the circulation of texts in digital environments; also, Michel Foucault, Freud, Antonio Candido and Roland Barthes were part of our theoretical corpus, dialoguing with the reflections constructed.
