Parcours de formation et d’insertion : une comparaison des systèmes éducatifs français et suisse à l'aune de la théorie des capabilités / Educational trajectories and labour market entry : towards a comparison of the Swiss and French education systems in the light of the capabilities' theory

Olympio, Noémie 06 December 2013 (has links)
International comparisons in the field of education seem to be particularly in vogue at the moment, as reflected in the proliferation of books on the subject, the burgeoning number of international reports and a fresh upsurge in standardised student assessments. In this thesis, education systems are examined from the perspective of their ability to contribute to equality and in particular to create opportunities for individuals. We particularly focus on France and Switzerland, two systems in which organisation of education is fundamentally different. These education systems are then compared in the light of Amartya Sen’s theory of capabilities. This theory allows us to investigate the degree of freedom that individuals have in their trajectories and the range of opportunities available to them, what might be called their ‘opportunities space’. Then we analyse how opportunities and constraints open up and close off over time in each education system. Considering that the analysis of people free choices and opportunities require a dynamic approach, the empirical part is based on two longitudinal database. For Switzerland, we make use TREE (Transition from Education to Employment) and the DEPP-EVA panel for France (Department of Evaluation, Forecasting and Performance - Adulthood Entry).

Challenges to implement inclusive education in Ethiopia

Zelalem Temesgen 03 September 2020 (has links)
The aims of the research were twofold, namely, investigate challenges that hindered the implementation of inclusive education in Ethiopia and develop a framework that can enhance the inclusion of children with disabilities (CwDs). The ecology of human development has served as the theoretical lens underpinning this study to discover challenges that hindered the implementation of inclusive education. These barriers were also investigated from micro, meso, exo, and macro perspectives in the system. With this, I employed qualitative approach under the hegemony of constructivism paradigm. The hermeneutic design of the study enabled me to build knowledge about the barriers that hindered the implementation of inclusive education. Subsequently, using semi-structured interview and focus group discussion as instrument, I listened to experts in education, school supervisors, professionals in SNE and education vice heads. Thereafter, the data analysis went by transcribing the recorded interview verbatim. Then, using the transcribed and chunked data, I mapped the range and nature of phenomena, created typologies and found out associations between themes with a view to provide explanations for the findings. The process of mapping and interpretation was also guided by the original research aims as well as by the themes that have emerged from the data themselves. The participants revealed that the challenges to implement inclusive education ranged from the absence of mandatory national inclusive policy to the low income of the families of CwDs. Therefore, lack of collaboration among stakeholders of education, misconception of inclusive education, shortage of trained teachers, poor allocation of finance, poor school infrastructure and lack of mandatory inclusive policy were the few identified barriers among others. Finally, I have recommended collaborative effort among stakeholders to ensure inclusion of CwDs. / Inclusive Education / D. Phil.

The place and role of effective classroom management in the improvement of Mathematics education in Gauteng province

Juta, Abigail 11 1900 (has links)
This study explores the feelings, perceptions and experiences of Mathematics educators as they use classroom management to improve Mathematics education in the sampled four secondary schools in the Gauteng province. The main research question was to understand the place and role of effective classroom management in the improvement of mathematics education. In answering this question, the researcher collected data through purposively and conveniently selected four schools in Gauteng province. The researcher engaged the Mathematics head of department and Mathematics educators of participating schools to conduct face-to-face semi-structured interviews with heads of departments, and focus group discussions with Mathematics educators. Data was also collected through limited observation of different administrative aspects in Mathematics classrooms. Data collected was thematically analysed. The data analysis resulted in four main themes emerging. Overall, it was identified that Mathematics educators are expected to perform multiple tasks which necessitate good classroom management skills thereby enhancing an improvement in the performance of learners. From the data obtained, analysed and discussed, the study established that good Mathematics teaching cannot be separated from effectively managing classes, and that effective classroom management is a necessity in Gauteng province. Several elements which enhance effective classroom management were found to be, possession of relevant and adequate resources in the form of material and physical or material, educator professional skills and characteristics, parental and school management support as well as positive learner participation. it was seen that educators were facing several challenges which interfere with their efforts to restore and maintain an organised teaching–learning environment. / Educational Management and Leadership / Ph. Projekt jednotné vzdělávací soustavy pro znaleckou činnost / Project of Uniform Education System for Expert Activities

Pivoňková, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
Particular parts of the project 'Uniform Education System for Expert Activities' are listed and described in this dissertation. Legal approaches to the issue of expert activities in selected European countries were mapped on the basis of researches. The fact that the current legal regulation of expert activities in the Czech Republic does not include the obligation of the lifelong learning of experts, does not specify the ways and forms of verifying of qualification requirements before appointing to the office, and also does not provide for the further educating after the registering on the list of experts, is seen as a problematic situation. The suggested system is divided in two basic parts: before registering the expert on the list of experts, focusing on the qualification requirements and the way of their verification by administrative authorities, and after appointing to the office and registering to the central list of experts, focusing on lifelong learning during the whole time of practising of the profession, as well as on the form and content. Some basic methods of sociological survey (especially introductory seminars and questionnaire surveys) were used as the information source. These dates were evaluated and applicable conclusions were compiled and integrated into in more detail described components parts of the suggested education system, in which also the already existing training courses and workshops were taken in consideration. For the purpose of regular verifying of expert's professional qualification, a credit system was developed, as well as the periodicity of verifying of the expert's professional qualification and the form of record keeping in the Index of Expert's Professionalism.

Integrating philosophy of education and the goals of education in education practice at Kenyan high schools

Munyoki, Mwinzi Joseph 02 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to explore the subject of integrating philosophy of education and the goals of education in education practice at the high schools in Kenya. It is stated that the impact of education practice is hinged in the statement of philosophy of education and the goals of education which has been neglected by researchers and scholars in Kenya. An intensive literature review which was undertaken revealed that philosophy of education and the goals of education are flouted in education practice. The sources of literature review were books, journals, policy documents, dissertations, theses, newspapers, and websites. In this qualitative research, phenomenology was selected as suitable theoretical framework to situate education practice as a human activity which is shaped by philosophy of education and the goals of education. A qualitative design was used, and purposive sampling was identified to select the schools and the respondents. The respondents in this research included the school principals, teachers, education officers, board of governors, and the parents-teachers’ representatives. The main qualitative research methods involved literature review and interviews. In this study, ideograms were utilized in the process of analysing the responses acquired from the respondents. According to the respondents, the statement of philosophy of education is foreign in the high schools, but the goals of education are printed in the syllabi, and this explains why the study focused on the goals as the familiar items. The views obtained from the respondents emphasized on what is envisioned to occur at the high schools, and this explains that the students are estranged from philosophy of education. It was concluded that high school pedagogy is exposed to conflicts in relation to integrating philosophy of education and the goals of education. In this case, the study recommended the following insights to improve the process of integrating philosophy of education, the goals of education, and education practice in Kenya: The necessity of revising the content and material resources of high school syllabi to comprise the attributes of philosophy of education in pedagogical activities.  Another suggestion emphasized on restructuring evaluation strategies to integrate the attributes of social cohesion, human progress and economic development.  The final recommendation is that the teaching and learning activities are necessary to intensify knowledge transfer which articulates the attributes of philosophy of education and the goals of education.

De Jager, Christina Johanna 27 January 2011 (has links)
‘n Gevallestudie is as navorsingsontwerp gebruik. ENGLISH: The purpose of this study was to describe the manner in which I, in collaboration with the participants of the study, developed an HIV&AIDS school plan. The need for a structured HIV&AIDS school plan stemmed from a broad research project of which this study forms part and during which the participating educators expressed the need to support HIV&AIDS infected and affected children more efficiently. I approached the study from an interpretivist perspective, underpinned by action research principles, and divided the research process into three phases. I implemented a case study as research design and selected eight primary school teachers in an informal settlement community in the Nelson Mandela Metropole, by means of convenience sampling. Throughout this study, I followed a multi-methodical approach. During Phase 1, I conducted an analysis of the transcripts of related studies within the broad research project, in order to identify the participants’ needs and ideas, concerning an HIV&AIDS school plan. Secondly, I facilitated two focus group discussions during a first field visit, in an attempt to determine the teachers’ existing knowledge concerning the Department of Education’s National HIV&AIDS Policy; what the underlying rational for the development of an HIV&AIDS school plan could be; what the possible content of such a plan could entail; and how and by whom such a plan would be utilised and used in the classroom. I transcribed the focus group discussions and thematically analysed and interpreted the raw data. Throughout, I made use of observations, captured in the form of field notes and photographs. For Phase 2, I facilitated a participatory action research workshop during a second field visit. During this workshop we finalised the content of the school’s HIV&AIDS plan. The third phase entailed the documentation of the HIV&AIDS school plan, in the form of a formal document and a poster. During my third field visit, at the launch of the school as a Resource and Support Centre in the community, I presented the schools’ principal with the HIV&AIDS school plan, in the form of the formal document and poster. I continuously relied on a research journal to document my personal opinions, reflective thoughts and impressions of the study. Subsequent to the data analysis I completed, three themes emerged. Firstly, the underlying rational for an HIV&AIDS school plan were determined, with sub-themes indicating that educators wanted to transfer their knowledge and skills to other schools in the area to support the wider community; that teachers wanted to transfer their knowledge and skills to support infected and affected children more effectively, and that the need existed for knowledge and skills to be documented in the form of an HIV&AIDS school plan. Secondly, the participants’ expectations of an HIV&AIDS school plan were determined, with the fundamental principles of an HIV&AIDS school plan and the implementation of the plan as related sub-themes. The third main theme indicated the possible content of an HIV&AIDS school plan. This theme comprises sub-themes relating to the identification, referral and support of infected and affected children. Based on the findings of my study, I can conclude that participatory action research might be used to develop an HIV&AIDS school plan, in collaboration with teachers. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Educational Psychology / unrestricted
