A MIL-STD-1553 Multiplex Data Bus Record-All Small Data Acquisition System

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 26-29, 1992 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / MIL-STD-1553 multiplex data buses are commonly used to link complex software-controlled systems in modern aircraft. The software in these aircraft is routinely updated; each update requires flight testing. Also, sophisticated weapons and electronic warfare systems which are integrated into operationally-ready aircraft must be routinely evaluated. The simplest way to perform the required evaluation is to record all the data from the multiplex data buses during an operational flight; these data can then be replayed and examined after the flight. Traditionally, some operational systems had to be disabled or removed from an aircraft to allow installation of a data acquisition system. This paper discusses a MILSTD- 1553 multiplex bus Record-All Small Data Acquisition System (RASDAS) installed in a McDonnell Douglas CF-188 fighter aircraft to record all data from two 1553 multiplex data buses without displacing any operational equipment. The specific requirements and constraints associated with evaluating the integrated systems of a CF-188 aircraft are examined; further, RASDAS implementation in this aircraft type is discussed from planning to flight evaluation.

Estimation of LRD present in H.264 video traces using wavelet analysis and proving the paramount of H.264 using OPF technique in wi-fi environment

While there has always been a tremendous demand for streaming video over Wireless networks, the nature of the application still presents some challenging issues. These applications that transmit coded video sequence data over best-effort networks like the Internet, the application must cope with the changing network behaviour; especially, the source encoder rate should be controlled based on feedback from a channel estimator that explores the network intermittently. The arrival of powerful video compression techniques such as H.264, which advance in networking and telecommunications, opened up a whole new frontier for multimedia communications. The aim of this research is to transmit the H.264 coded video frames in the wireless network with maximum reliability and in a very efficient manner. When the H.264 encoded video sequences are to be transmitted through wireless network, it faces major difficulties in reaching the destination. The characteristics of H.264 video coded sequences are studied fully and their capability of transmitting in wireless networks are examined and a new approach called Optimal Packet Fragmentation (OPF) is framed and the H.264 coded sequences are tested in the wireless simulated environment. This research has three major studies involved in it. First part of the research has the study about Long Range Dependence (LRD) and the ways by which the self-similarity can be estimated. For estimating the LRD a few studies are carried out and Wavelet-based estimator is selected for the research because Wavelets incarcerate both time and frequency features in the data and regularly provides a more affluent picture than the classical Fourier analysis. The Wavelet used to estimate the self-similarity by using the variable called Hurst Parameter. Hurst Parameter tells the researcher about how a data can behave inside the transmitted network. This Hurst Parameter should be calculated for a more reliable transmission in the wireless network. The second part of the research deals with MPEG-4 and H.264 encoder. The study is carried out to prove which encoder is superior to the other. We need to know which encoder can provide excellent Quality of Service (QoS) and reliability. This study proves with the help of Hurst parameter that H.264 is superior to MPEG-4. The third part of the study is the vital part in this research; it deals with the H.264 video coded frames that are segmented into optimal packet size in the MAC Layer for an efficient and more reliable transfer in the wireless network. Finally the H.264 encoded video frames incorporated with the Optimal Packet Fragmentation are tested in the NS-2 wireless simulated network. The research proves the superiority of H.264 video encoder and OPF's master class.

Deep neural semantic parsing: translating from natural language into SPARQL / Análise semântica neural profunda: traduzindo de linguagem natural para SPARQL

Semantic parsing is the process of mapping a natural-language sentence into a machine-readable, formal representation of its meaning. The LSTM Encoder-Decoder is a neural architecture with the ability to map a source language into a target one. We are interested in the problem of mapping natural language into SPARQL queries, and we seek to contribute with strategies that do not rely on handcrafted rules, high-quality lexicons, manually-built templates or other handmade complex structures. In this context, we present two contributions to the problem of semantic parsing departing from the LSTM encoder-decoder. While natural language has well defined vector representation methods that use a very large volume of texts, formal languages, like SPARQL queries, suffer from lack of suitable methods for vector representation. In the first contribution we improve the representation of SPARQL vectors. We start by obtaining an alignment matrix between the two vocabularies, natural language and SPARQL terms, which allows us to refine a vectorial representation of SPARQL items. With this refinement we obtained better results in the posterior training for the semantic parsing model. In the second contribution we propose a neural architecture, that we call Encoder CFG-Decoder, whose output conforms to a given context-free grammar. Unlike the traditional LSTM encoder-decoder, our model provides a grammatical guarantee for the mapping process, which is particularly important for practical cases where grammatical errors can cause critical failures. Results confirm that any output generated by our model obeys the given CFG, and we observe a translation accuracy improvement when compared with other results from the literature. / A análise semântica é o processo de mapear uma sentença em linguagem natural para uma representação formal, interpretável por máquina, do seu significado. O LSTM Encoder-Decoder é uma arquitetura de rede neural com a capacidade de mapear uma sequência de origem para uma sequência de destino. Estamos interessados no problema de mapear a linguagem natural em consultas SPARQL e procuramos contribuir com estratégias que não dependam de regras artesanais, léxico de alta qualidade, modelos construídos manualmente ou outras estruturas complexas feitas à mão. Neste contexto, apresentamos duas contribuições para o problema de análise semântica partindo da arquitetura LSTM Encoder-Decoder. Enquanto para a linguagem natural existem métodos de representação vetorial bem definidos que usam um volume muito grande de textos, as linguagens formais, como as consultas SPARQL, sofrem com a falta de métodos adequados para representação vetorial. Na primeira contribuição, melhoramos a representação dos vetores SPARQL. Começamos obtendo uma matriz de alinhamento entre os dois vocabulários, linguagem natural e termos SPARQL, o que nos permite refinar uma representação vetorial dos termos SPARQL. Com esse refinamento, obtivemos melhores resultados no treinamento posterior para o modelo de análise semântica. Na segunda contribuição, propomos uma arquitetura neural, que chamamos de Encoder CFG-Decoder, cuja saída está de acordo com uma determinada gramática livre de contexto. Ao contrário do modelo tradicional LSTM Encoder-Decoder, nosso modelo fornece uma garantia gramatical para o processo de mapeamento, o que é particularmente importante para casos práticos nos quais erros gramaticais podem causar falhas críticas em um compilador ou interpretador. Os resultados confirmam que qualquer resultado gerado pelo nosso modelo obedece à CFG dada, e observamos uma melhora na precisão da tradução quando comparada com outros resultados da literatura.

Approche déterministe de l'acquisition comprimée et la reconstruction des signaux issus de capteurs intelligents distribués / Determinitic approach of compressed sensing and reconstruction of signals from wireless body sensor networks

Le réseau sans fil sur le corps humain ou « wireless body area network (WBAN) » est une nouvelle technologie de réseau sans fil dédié à la surveillance des paramètres physiologiques d’une personne. Le réseau est composé de dispositifs électroniques miniatures, appelés nœuds, disposés aux alentours ou à l’intérieur du corps humain. Chaque nœud est doté d’un ou plusieurs capteurs mesurant les paramètres physiologiques de la personne, comme l’électrocardiogramme ou bien la température du corps, et les caractéristiques de l’environnement qui l’entoure. Ces nœuds sont surtout soumis à une contrainte énergétique importante puisque la miniaturisation a réduit les dimensions de leurs batteries. Puisque les nœuds consomment la majorité de l’énergie pour transmettre les données, une solution pour diminuer leur consommation consisterait à compresser les données avant la transmission. Les méthodes classiques de compression ne sont pas adaptées pour le WBAN particulièrement à cause de la puissance de calcul requise et la consommation qui en résulterait. Dans cette thèse, pour contourner ces problèmes, nous utilisons une méthode à base de l’acquisition comprimée pour compresser et reconstruire les données provenant des nœuds. Nous proposons un encodeur simple et facile à mettre en œuvre pour compresser les signaux. Nous présentons aussi un algorithme permettant de réduire la complexité de la phase de reconstruction des signaux. Un travail collaboratif avec l’entreprise TEA (Technologie Ergonomie Appliquées) nous a permis de valider expérimentalement une version numérique de l’encodeur et l’algorithme de reconstruction. Nous avons aussi développé et validé une version analogique de l’encodeur en utilisant des composants standards. / A wireless body area network (WBAN) is a new class of wireless networks dedicated to monitor human physiological parameters. It consists of small electronic devices, also called nodes, attached to or implanted in the human body. Each node comprises one or many sensors which measure physiological signals, such as electrocardiogram or body heat, and the characteristics of the surrounding environment. These nodes are mainly subject to a significant energy constraint due to the fact that the miniaturization has reduced the size of their batteries. A solution to minimize the energy consumption would be to compress the sensed data before wirelessly transmitting them. Indeed, research has shown that most of the available energy are consumed by the wireless transmitter. Conventional compression methods are not suitable for WBANs because they involve a high computational power and increase the energy consumption. To overcome these limitations, we use compressed sensing (CS) to compress and recover the sensed data. We propose a simple and efficient encoder to compress the data. We also introduce a new algorithm to reduce the complexity of the recovery process. A partnership with TEA (Technologie Ergonomie Appliquées) company allowed us to experimentally evaluate the performance of the proposed method during which a numeric version of the encoder has been used. We also developed and validated an analog version of the encoder.

Estudos que tenham realizado a quantificação dos níveis de TREC em crianças e adolescentes saudáveis brasileiros são escassos na literatura. Objetivo: No presente estudo, avaliamos os níveis de TREC em células mononucleares do sangue periférico associado à análise da expressão de linfócitos T CD3, CD4, CD8, de linfócitos T ativados co-expressando CD38 e HLA-DR e linfócitos T reguladores co-expressando CD25 e Foxp3 em crianças e adolescentes saudáveis em diferentes faixas etárias. Material e métodos: A quantificação dos níveis de sjTREC de DNA genômico em células mononucleares de sangue periférico foi realizada pelo método de PCR quantitativo em tempo real. A concentração de TREC foi expressa em número de cópias de TREC/?g de DNA. A análise da expressão dos marcadores CD3, CD4, CD8, CD38, HLA-DR, CD25 e Foxp3 foi realizada por citometria de fluxo. Resultados: Foram avaliadas 95 crianças e adolescentes, 46 do sexo feminino e 49 do sexo masculino com idades entre 1 e 18 anos. A média do número de cópias de TREC foi de 8,9 ± 3,6 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA. Não encontramos diferença significativa nos valores de TREC entre o sexo feminino e masculino (8,2 ± 3,3 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA vs 9,5 ± 3,9 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA, respectivamente, p = 0,085). Houve uma correlação inversa e significativa entre idade e os níveis de TREC (r = -0,846; p < 0,001), refletindo a já conhecida queda da função tímica com a idade. A expressão de CD3, CD4 e CD8 variou de 45 a 62%, 60 a 65% e 14 a 26%, respectivamente. Não houve correlação significativa entre a proporção de CD3, CD4 e CD8 e a idade dos indivíduos avaliados. The quantification of TREC (T cell receptor excision circle) has been widely used to evaluate and quantify thymic function in peripheral blood cells. Studies that evaluated TREC levels in Brazilian healthy children and adolescents are scarce in the literature. Objective: In the present study, we evaluated the TREC levels in peripheral mononuclear cells associated with the analysis of CD3, CD4, CD8 T cell markers, and activated T cells coexpressing CD38 and HLA-DR, and regulatory T cells co-expressing CD25 and Foxp3 in healthy children and adolescents in different age groups. Material and Methods: The quantification of sjTREC levels in genomic DNA of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) was performed by real time quantitative PCR. TREC concentration was expressed as the number of copies of TREC/?g DNA. The analysis of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD38, HLA-DR, CD25 and Foxp3 expression was performed using flow cytometry methodology. Results: Ninety-five healthy children and adolescents were analyzed, 46 girls and 49 boys. The mean TREC count in PBMC in all individuals was 8.9 ± 3.6 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA. There was no significant difference in the number of TRECs/?g DNA between female and male gender (8.2 ± 3.3 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA vs 9.5 ± 3.9 x 104 TRECs/?g DNA, p = 0.085). There was an inverse correlation between age and TREC counts in PBMC in the 95 individuals (r = -0.846, p < 0.001), reflecting the well-known decrease of thymic function that occurs with age. The expression of CD3, CD4 and CD8 surface markers ranged between 45-62%, 60-65% and 14- 26%, respectively. There was no significant correlation between CD3, CD4 and CD8 proportion and age. Sensor Fusion with Coordinated Mobile Robots / Sensorfusion med koordinerade mobila robotar

<p>Robust localization is a prerequisite for mobile robot autonomy. In many situations the GPS signal is not available and thus an additional localization system is required. A simple approach is to apply localization based on dead reckoning by use of wheel encoders but it results in large estimation errors. With exteroceptive sensors such as a laser range finder natural landmarks in the environment of the robot can be extracted from raw range data. Landmarks are extracted with the Hough transform and a recursive line segment algorithm. By applying data association and Kalman filtering along with process models the landmarks can be used in combination with wheel encoders for estimating the global position of the robot. If several robots can cooperate better position estimates are to be expected because robots can be seen as mobile landmarks and one robot can supervise the movement of another. The centralized Kalman filter presented in this master thesis systematically treats robots and extracted landmarks such that benefits from several robots are utilized. Experiments in different indoor environments with two different robots show that long distances can be traveled while the positional uncertainty is kept low. The benefit from cooperating robots in the sense of reduced positional uncertainty is also shown in an experiment. </p><p>Except for localization algorithms a typical autonomous robot task in the form of change detection is solved. The change detection method, which requires robust localization, is aimed to be used for surveillance. The implemented algorithm accounts for measurement- and positional uncertainty when determining whether something in the environment has changed. Consecutive true changes as well as sporadic false changes are detected in an illustrative experiment.</p>

<p>To achieve greater compression ratios new video and image CODECs like H.264 and JPEG 2000 take advantage of Context adaptive binary arithmetic coding. As it contains computationally heavy algorithms, fast implementations have to be made when they are performed on large amount of data such as compressing high resolution formats like HDTV. This document describes how entropy coding works in general with a focus on arithmetic coding and CABAC. Furthermore the document dicusses the demands of the different CABACs and propose different options to hardware and instruction level optimisation. Testing and benchmarking of these implementations are done to ease evaluation. The main contribution of the thesis is parallelising and unifying the CABACs which is discussed and partly implemented. The result of the ILA is improved program flow through a specialised branching operations. The result of the DHA is a two bit parallel accelerator with hardware sharing between JPEG 2000 and H.264 encoder with limited decoding support.</p>

Implementation of Flash Analog-to-Digital Converters in Silicon-on-Insulator Technology

<p>High speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) used in, e.g., read channel and ultra wideband (UWB) applications are often based on a flash topology. The read channel applications is the intended application of this work, where a part of the work covers the design of two different types of 6-bit flash ADCs. Another field of application is UWB receivers.</p><p>To optimize the performance of the whole system and derive the specifications for the sub-blocks of the system it is often desired to use a topdown design methodology. To facilitate the top-down design methodology the ADCs are modeled on behavioral level. The models are simulated in MATLAB®. The results are used to verify the functionality of the proposed circuit topologies and serve as a base to the circuit design phase.</p><p>The first flash ADC has a conventional topology. It has a resistor net connected to a number of latched comparators, but its thermometer-tobinary encoder is based on 2-to-1 multiplexers buffered with inverters. This gives a compact encoder with a regular structure and short critical path. The main disadvantage is the code dependent timing difference between the encoder outputs introduced by this topology. The ADC was simulated on schematic level in Cadence® using the foundry provided transistor models. The design obtained a maximum sampling frequency of 1 GHz, an effective resolution bandwidth of 390 MHz, and a power consumption of 170 mW.</p><p>The purpose of the second ADC is to demonstrate the concept of introducing dynamic element matching (DEM) into the reference net of a flash ADC. This design yields information about the performance improvements the DEM gives, and what the trade-offs are when introducing DEM. Behavioral level simulations indicate that the SFDR is improved by 11 dB when introducing DEM, but the settling time of the reference net with DEM will now limit the conversion speed of the converter. Further, the maximum input frequency is limited by the total resistance in the reference net, which gets increased in this topology. The total resistance is the total switch on-resistance plus the total resistance of the resistors. To increase the conversion speed and the maximum input frequency a new DEM topology is proposed in this work, which reduces the number of switches introduced into the reference net compared with earlier proposed DEM topologies. The transistor level simulations in Cadence® of the flash ADC with DEM indicates that the SFDR improves by 6 dB compared with when not using DEM, and is expected to improve more if more samples are used in the simulation. This was not possible in the current simulations due to the long simulation time. The improved SFDR is however traded for an increased chip area and a reduction of the maximum sampling frequency to 550 MHzfor this converter. The average power consumption is 92 mW.</p><p>A goal of this work is to evaluate a 130 nm partially depleted silicon-oninsulator (SOI) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology with respect to analog circuit implementation. The converters are therefore implemented in this technology. When writing this the ADCs are still being manufactured. Since the technology evaluation will be based on the measurement results the final results of the evaluation are not included in this thesis. The conclusions regarding the SOI CMOS technology are therefore based on a literature study of published scientific papers in the SOI area, information extracted during the design phase of the ADCs, and from the transistor level circuit simulations. These inputs indicate that to fully utilize the potential performance advantages of the SOI CMOS technology the partially depleted SOI CMOS technology should be exchanged for a fully depleted SOI CMOS technology. The manufacturing difficulties regarding the control of the thin-film thickness must however first be solved before the exchange can be done.</p> / Report code: LiU-Tek-Lic-2005:68.

Detta examensarbete har gjorts på uppdrag av SP Maskiner AB och berör längdmätningsenheten på skördaraggregatet SP451LF. Pulsgivaren i den befintliga längdmätningen anses inte nå en acceptabel livslängd och därför skall ett sensorlager prövas som ersättare. Uppdraget består i att söka ett lämpligt sensorlager, dimensionera en komplett mäthjulslagring samt att ta fram ett konstruktionsförslag till prototyp på längdmätning. Arbetet begränsas av att den omkonstruerade längdmätningen skall passa på SP451LF aggregatet. Det betyder att längdmätningens infästning mot aggregatet inte får förändras och dess yttermått måste hållas inom de gränser som aggregatets chassi tillåter. / This diploma work has been done on commission by SP Maskiner AB and affects the length meter unit on the single-grip harvester SP451LF. The pulse encoder in the present length meter has too short duration why a sensor-bearing will be tested as replacement. The tasks are to find a suitable sensor-bearing unit, to dimension a complete measuring wheel bearing and create a construction proposal for a prototype of a length meter. The diploma work is limited by the fact that the reworked length meter has to fit into the SP451LF harvester. That means that the length meter’s contact points on the harvester’s frame are not to be altered.
