InstituiÃÃes escolares e formaÃÃo de professoras no Cariri (1923 A 1960): o ColÃgio Santa Teresa De Jesus e a Escola Normal Rural de Juazeiro do Norte em perspectiva histÃrico-comparada / Educational institutions and training of teachers in Cariri (1923 1960): the Colegio Santa Teresa De Jesus and the Rural Normal School of Juazeiro in historical and comparative perspective

Tania Maria Rodrigues Lopes 09 July 2015 (has links)
This study aims to understand the political principles and pedagogical concepts that guided the training of teachers to public primary education in the period 1923-1960, in Cariri (CearÃ), by means of analyzing two important educational institutions in that region: 1) St. Teresa of Jesus College (STJC), located in the city of Crato; 2) Rural Normal School of Juazeiro do Norte (RNSJN). Research has comparative perspective and qualitative nature, based on survey historical documents and collecting interviews about life, education and work from sixteen former students of these two institutions, with the main objective to compare and relate political and pedagogical conceptions that based the training of teachers in Normal and Rural Normal courses developed by these educational institutions established in Cariri. This study was supported by studies and reflections of Della Cava (1976), Cortez (2000), Santos (2010), Cavalcante (2000) among others, understanding the specificity of local context as well as political tensions involving the two most important cities of Cariri. Among the studies on the history of RNSJN, we focus on theses of AraÃjo (2006) and Barros (2011); dissertations of Nogueira (2008), Silva (2010) and Varela (2012); and the first monograph written in RNSJN developed by Sousa (1994), entitled âRural Normal School of Juazeiro do Norte: a pioneering experienceâ, published by IPESC. The search for historiographical sources on the STJC showed few studies that address in a simplified manner experiences of first training center for teachers, as stated by Santos (2010), Cortez (2000) and Queiroz (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013). As a result, the thesis points out the following aspects: 1) the two institutions were inspired by similar experiences in mainstream education coming from their heads, when they were students of denominational schools in Fortaleza, guided by the Cearà Normal School â that served as reference to organization of first two institutions created in the countryside of Cearà to train the first teachers of that region; 2) in the memories of its former students, both institutions have left deep feelings, considering educational and training experiences with quality, diversity and the growth of professional possibilities in a favorable atmosphere in the middle of historical competition between Juazeiro do Norte and Crato; 3) normal school in Cariri was constituted following national standards to educational and institutional framework, which reveals the social value of this institution in order to overcome, at least in part, social inequalities, creating opportunities to educate women and training them as teachers to promote the growth of educational need to that region; 4) the different conditions of development between the capital and the countryside of Cearà in this period, in relation to their processes of administrative structure and available resources, showing serious fragilities, especially regarding to obstacles to organize those educational institutions for teacher training; 5) the pioneering leadership of the heads of STJC and RNSJN, supported by figures of political and cultural elite of the two cities, to organize the two educational institutions providing conditions to ensure the desired educational service to their localities, knowing that this organization was based on a set of norms and rules, in order to regulate the need to public national education, the establishment and operation of educational institutions, adopting pedagogical principles and educational practices of successful experiences looking for good results to the required modernization in Brazil in the 1930s. At last, we found that the educational and cultural influences received by both educational institutions was based in models of national and international context of secular and denominational content being adapted to promote education and training to women in Cariri.

All the problems of waste generation becomes even more serious due to the ineffectiveness of treatment and final disposal of this waste, given that ways to manage these wastes can impact profoundly on the environment, contaminating soil, air, water. All the problems of waste generation becomes even more serious due to the ineffectiveness of treatment and final disposal of this waste, given that ways to manage these wastes can impact profoundly on the environment, contaminating soil, air, water. Thus, there is no way to think of ways to preserve and restore the environment regardless of the existence of waste management programs that allow the minimization of environmental impacts. In this context, the present study aimed to investigate the management of chemical waste in the Department of Animal Morphology and Physiology (DMFA) of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). And as specific objectives, seek to identify and quantify the situation of chemical waste generated in histology laboratories; propose and provide a guide for chemical waste management procedures in order to assist DMFA laboratories in a future implementation of a Chemical Waste Management Program (PGRQ). We used the case study method, where qualitative and quantitative data were collected, as well as observations in locus. The application of semi-structured questionnaires, with open and closed questions, was conducted from February 2015 to April 2015, and the record of the waste produced in laboratories, from November 2014 to March 2015. The survey results showed the need to prioritize actions aimed at proper management of chemical waste, so that UFRPE implement a chemical waste management Program, capable of treating the waste produced in its laboratories and thereby reducing environmental impacts generated by these.

Professionalism of enrolled nursing auxiliary learners in a private nursing education institution in Potchefstroom, North West : a case study / Beatrix Adriana van Wyk

Van Wyk, Beatrix Adriana January 2014 (has links)
When people hear the word "nurse," they often think of qualities such as compassion and patience. While these are essential characteristics, nurses must go even further when striving for professionalism. Nurses also need strong morals and ethics and the commitment to always act in the best interests of their patients. The term professionalism embraces a set of attitudes, skills and behaviours, attributes and values which are expected from those to whom society has extended the privilege of being considered a professional. The core values of professionalism include: honesty, integrity, altruism, respect, responsibility, accountability, compassion, empathy, dedication, self-improvement, competency of clinical skills and knowledge. Professional nursing practice is a commitment to compassion, caring and strong ethical values, continuous development of self and others, accountability and responsibility for insightful practice, demonstrating a spirit of collaboration and flexibility. Rapid changes in the nursing sector have recently occurred across all areas and settings, making for a chaotic and seldom unstable work environment. All of these changes have impacted the ability of ENA learners to maintain high levels of professionalism and collaboration. In particular, the researcher, as an educator within a private NEI responsible for teaching ENA learners, experienced a lack of professionalism amongst ENA learners during the course of their training, as well as after their enrolment with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Currently, there seems to be a difference between the professionalism portrayed by ENA learners and that which is expected of them. The overall aim of this research is to enhance the professionalism of ENA learners in a private NEI in Potchefstroom, North West. The following objectives have been identified in order to reach this aim: * To explore and describe professionalism amongst ENA learners in a private NEI in Potchefstroom, North West, and * To formulate recommendations to advance professionalism amongst ENA learners in a private NEI in Potchefstroom, North West. This study was conducted by means of a case study approach as the selected topic focuses only on a private nursing education institution situated in Potchefstroom, North West. From the qualitative instrumental case study approach, a qualitative, explorative, contextual research design was followed. The population in the study was all the ENA learners of a private NEI in Potchefstroom, North West. A sample was selected through non-probable, purposive sampling according to inclusion criteria (n=25). Data collection was conducted by means of a ―World Café‖ method and a focus group. The data collected through the World Café method was recorded and transcribed and reconstructed by means of thematic analysis. The main theme that crystallised from data analysis was that ENA learners viewed professionalism as a set of behaviours that are displayed in their external environment. The behaviours are grouped into the following five subgroups, namely punctuality versus absenteeism, adhering to scheduling and duty hours, responsibility of observations and awareness, the role of dress code and the image of nursing and finally obedience to organisational rules and regulations and tolerance towards others. The World Café and focus group results were integrated with case records according to repetitive themes. From the results and conclusions, recommendations were formulated for nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research to enhance professionalism amongst ENA learners in general. / MCur, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

A model for trust in the nursing education environment

Van Dyk, Ellie Catharina 11 1900 (has links)
Trust is an important concept in nursing. Nursing is frequently described as a profession which is built on trusting relationships; hence, to produce competent professional nurses the building of trust and trusting relationships in nursing education is of utmost importance. The purpose of the study was to understand trust and trusting relationships between and among educators and students in the teaching and learning environment. A qualitative approach with a grounded theory design was used to discover the value of trust and trusting relationships and to develop a model for trust in the nursing education environment. All the nursing education institutions offering the R425 nursing programme in the selected province were included. Two nursing education institutions offered the R425 nursing programme in this province, a university and one public multi-campus nursing education institution with three campuses. The target population consisted of educators and students complying with the sampling criteria. Sampling of educators and students was purposive and convenient. The sample size consisted of fourteen students was purposive and convenient. The sample size consisted of fourteen educators and sixty students. In-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with educators and fourteen focus group interviews were conducted with students. The three stages of Charmaz (2014) were used for the analysis of data, namely initial, focused and theoretical coding until data saturation was evident. Data collection and analysis and the literature review were done concurrently. Three role players were identified to be important in trust in nursing education. The role players are the educator, student and professional nurse. In the study two sets of data, namely the educators’ views and students’ views on trust in nursing education were synthesised. Four themes emerged, namely: namely professional relations, expectations of the role players in nursing education, creating a conducive teaching and learning environment and, finally, outcomes of trust or lack of trust. Ensuing from the findings of the current study, a model for trust in nursing education was developed – an important contribution to the body of knowledge of nursing education. The study throws light on self-trust, trusting relationships among role players, and trust in the teaching and learning environment. Awareness of trust and trusting relationships among the role players results in positive learning experiences, increased self-trust, self-confidence, motivation and better performance in nursing education. Recommendations made have a bearing on developing self-trust and trusting relationships among role players, the implementation of the model for trust in nursing education, and future studies in trust in nursing education / Health Studies / D. Determining employees' acceptance of electronic newsletters in an academic environment

Prinsloo, Carly Kim 02 1900 (has links)
Internal marketing and internal communication are essential tools to align em-ployees’ mindsets with the necessary tasks which bring about employee satis-faction and organisational prosperity. Electronic newsletters serve as an internal marketing communication medium which can convey the necessary information to employees regarding the organisation’s goals and objectives. They also act as a medium to build relationships with employees and encourage improved service delivery and customer-oriented employee mindsets. Employees’ willingness to make use of electronic newsletters for the purpose of disseminating organisational information is an indication of employees’ acceptance of the organisational information and use thereof in performing organisational tasks successfully as the organisation intends. The purpose of the current study was to determine employees’ acceptance of electronic newsletters, as an internal marketing communication medium, in order to disseminate organisational information which contributes to the attainment of organisational goals, objectives and success. An empirical study was conducted to determine employees’ acceptance of elec-tronic newsletters by means of an adapted technology acceptance model, self-administered, e-mail survey disseminated to employees of a higher education institution. The study followed a quantitative research approach, utilising re-gression in the analysis of the data. Based on the research results, employees do accept the electronic newsletter for the dissemination of organisational information, albeit with suggestions on how it can be better utilised in future. / The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) deployment can create a competitive differential in Higher Education Institution (HEI). The purpose of this study is to use a multicriteria analysis to prioritize the perspectives of BSC in three higher education institutions, managed by the same maintainer. Considering that the BSC does not have a measurement of its perspectives in scale of importance, which can hinder managers during implantation, in this work it is possible to verify the use of the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method of making decision with multiple criteria, which allowed the achievement of the prioritization of BSC perspectives in each HEI. Thus, the Educational Institutions may carry out the implementation of the BSC according to the degree of importance of the perspectives in the vision of its Principals. Through this research, it was possible to carry out an analysis with the use of two important tools: the BSC and the AHP in the management of the Institutions, which will allow the Principals a better condition in the preparation and better monitoring of the indicators strategic.
