Tahan, Petrus January 2016 (has links)
Energy optimization is starting to be a pursued worldwide main goal. This is based on the global energy consumption that occurs in buildings, which is about 40 percent. There is no doubt that this value needs to be lowered. But to achieve an energy efficient building is not easy. Although, this can be done in many and different ways. One of them is to optimize the windows, which is a buildings weakest point due to its high U-value.The choice of windows can be a harsh decision, there’s plenty of windows to choose among. In heating dominated climates, as the one in Sweden, it is necessary to choose windows with low U-values and high g-values, also a high solar heat gain coefficient/shading coefficient is required. A window with a low U-value is also important in cooling dominated climates but the main focus is instead on a low shading coefficient, which is not the case in this thesis. The purpose is to find the most energy efficient window that lowers the need for active heating in buildings, and also reveal and discuss the cost issues for the chosen windows.By searching in scientific databases and contacting companies active in the window industry the desired information was obtained. Calculations including the energy balance and present value were made, which gave an indication of the profitability for the different windows. Vacuum, aerogel and chromogenic window are examples of future windows which can have a positive impact on the energy balance in buildings. Yet these windows are currently not fully developed, but have potential to be highly valuable types of windows. Vacuum and chromogenic windows are better suited for cooling dominated climates. However if the development succeed where a big progress will be made it will not be impossible to suit them for heating dominated climates too. Aerogel windows have the best impact on the energy savings when replacing windows, but due to some optical attributes and a complicated manufacturing of the product aerogel windows are currently not an optimal choice for window replacement. The future windows isn’t either economically viable. For now, there are other commercially energy efficient windows that are cheaper to purchase. They also show an acceptable good result on the energy balance for a building.

Fyrtornet

Yamabo, Deo Gratias January 2013 (has links)
Energy efficiency has become a very topical issue that has been discussed throughout the European Union for preventing negative environmental impacts that have been associated with the consumption of energy. In the residential sector have mainly municipalities set strict requirements for the reduction of energy consumption while the renewable energy has been asked. Different concepts of low-energy buildings have been developed to reduce the cost of operation and maintenance in existing buildings such as in new ones. This thesis has aimed to minimize the energy cost of a large building which has had low energy consumption features originally. Energy reviews has been initiated in order to be able for showing how the house electricity could be carried out even more efficiently. The work was initiated through a literature study to clearly increase the reliability on the energy subject. Different concepts of low-energy buildings have been treated in connection with its specifications, afterward those have been compared with the obtained results. An analysis of the building’s energy use has been carried out as well as economic evaluation has been considered in order to the viability of the energy efficiency measures that have been proposed. Energy demand for the studied building has been valued at 48, 7 kWh/m2 annually in its original form. The obtained value has been lower than the required energy which has been promoted in Building Regulations, BBR 18. After the improvement of building has been performed, by using a package of measures, the building has been upgraded to a passive house level and the energy demand has become 21, 5 kWh/m2 annually. A reasonably large amount of energy has been reduced in connection with the improvement package as well as the whole profitability has proven to be economic sustainable. By integrating solar energy systems in the building, its result has shown a biggest benefit for saving energy.

Andersson, Alva, Leppänen, Natalie January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: this degree project investigates the homeowner’s knowledge about their energy use and the impact of using visualisation tools such as thermal imaging to enhance public engagement in energy conservation in building. Additionally, the study try to increase the understanding of how people's behavior affects the energy use in buildings. The method: the presented study is based on 12 participants who own a single-family house in central Sweden. Participation in this study involved responding to two questionnaires and conducting a thermography inspection. A methodology developed to replace a standard thermography inspection with a DIY themography survey. The study identified and filled the gap in the literature, by allowing house owners to carry out the thermographing inspection of their own buildings, free of charge and by themselves. The participants took part of a developed educational material that helps in increasing energy awareness and includes explanations about how to interpret the thermal images and provides suggestions for possible conservation measures. Finally, a data analyse carried out based on questionnairs, thermal images and communications with the house owners. The results: cold bridges are the most common cause of heat loss in the inspected single-family houses. Householders with older buildings who have long term plan to live in their building are willing to implement measures, while participants with newer buildings do not consider it as necessary. The infrared camera has been an effective tool for visualization of heat loss and attract attention. Many participants are surprised over the results. Conclusion: the study confirms that the infrared camera is an effective tool for heat loss visualization and can be used for enhancing public engagement in energy conservation in building. Thanks to this visualization, Swedish homeowners have gained an increased interest in energy-efficient measures such as additional insulation, window replacement and sun protection. The study has increased the general awareness and knowledge regarding energy efficiency in buildings.

Bâtiments tertiaires performants et comportements favorables à l’environnement : le rôle de variables psychosociales et du contexte organisationnel / Tertiary efficient buildings and pro-environmental behaviors : the role of psychosocial variables and organizational context

Labbouz, Delphine 13 November 2015 (has links)
The building sector is the first energy consumer in France. The emergence of efficient buildings provides an incomplete response to this problem because users’ behaviors need be considered. Our aim is to define the role of psychosocial and organizational factors on employees’ investment for their company and for the environment. At work, organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) are voluntarily adopted and contribute to the efficiency of the company. In continuation of the research on OCB, employees’ pro-environmental behaviors (PEB) can be viewed as OCB directed toward the environment (OCBE). In order to better understand their determinants, we conducted six studies including 889 undergraduate students and 592 employees, working in classic or exemplary buildings. We notice that employees who feel supported and fairly treated by their organization, will be more prone to adopt PEB and OCBE. This result encourages reinforcing organizational justice. Otherwise, environmental attitudes, values and habits moderate the effects of contextual factors on employees’ pro-environmental implication. In addition, self-determined environmental motivation at work has a positive effect on PEB and OCBE. Similarly, social norms have a positive influence on employees’ behaviors, especially when companies make a concrete but not overwhelming environmental policy. Finally, efficient buildings providing a comfortable working environment encourage employees to adopt PEB and OCBE. Based on our results, we propose recommendations to help building professionals and organizations to take better into account the occupants.

Svanbäck, Martina, Lindström, My January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose with this project was to evaluate the environmental, social, and economic aspects regarding two climate positive buildings in Västerås municipality in Sweden. The company responsible for the buildings, ETC Bygg AB, has assigned this task tothe research group Future Energy Center (FEC) at Mälardalen University. Method: The buildings was simulated with the programs IDA ICE and PVGIS to obtain the overall energy consumption and building efficiency as well as the PV system potential. Regarding transportation, vehicle and driver statistics was studied and adapted to the case study to estimate the tenant’s climate impact. Results: The results showed that the electricity obtained from the PV system both covers the building’s, and tenant’s estimated yearly electricity consumption, but also with a surplus available for storage or selling. The simulatedresults were compared to several previous studies with similar outcome, but with slightly different results. The tenants need for climate friendly transportation resulted in a suggestion of an electric mobility station consisting of electric cars, mopeds, and bicycles to lower the tenants carbon mitigation, costs, and energy consumption. Conclusions: Conclusions from the study was that the buildings meet both the BBR, and the FEBY18 Gold requirements with their high energy efficiency, as well as that the solar power system most likely will produce enough energy to cover both building, and tenant power consumption. A conclusion can be made that the transition to electric transportation have a potential to save both a considerable amount of energy and money for the tenants, but also the possibility to lower their collective yearly carbon mitigation. Also, that the life in a climate positive building have mostly, if not only, positive impacts on its residents.

Implementace evropské směrnice o energetické náročnosti budov v ČR / Implementation of the European Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings in the Czech Republic

Hatalová, Michaela January 2013 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Implementation of the European Directive on the energy performance of buildings in the Czech Republic" is a case study of the application of European law in the sector of efficient use of energy by the end user. This is a very complex issue, because the sector of energy policy is interdisciplinary theme, touching a wide range of actors and the strategies for energy policy are formed at different levels of governance. The degree of harmony of these strategies affect the success of the transposition of European law at the national level. Czech Republic has implemented the directive into national law through the amendment to the Energy Management Act. The new legislation follows the existing trend of increasing requirements on building energy standard and extends the use of certification in the real estate market as an instrument of consumer protection. The adoption of these measures means the interaction of public and private sector, where is a conflict of interests and values of individual actors. A significant degree of controversy has an impact on the success of the implementation.
