Jag har arbetat med pålar eftersom det är ett objekt som kan associeras med Rumänien genom Vlad Tepes (Pålspetsaren) och Dracula-myten. Men det finns ytterligare en, mindre känd, koppling mellan pålar, vässade pinnar, och Rumänien. Under det som kom att bli Ceausescus sista tal började folk skrika, men det var inte bu-rop utan bara skrik, rakt ut. Min pappa berättade för mig att några i den stora folkmassan hade börjat stickas med vässade pinnar och att skriken som hördes var skrik av smärta– ingen hade vågat börja annars. Två dagar senare var Ceausescu död. Jag har kombinerat vässade träpålar och virkade, droppande bloddroppar. Installationen hänger i taket och vissa utav pålarna blöder ner i virkade pölar av varierande storlekar. Naturmaterial som mossiga pinnar, kombinerat med rött virkat blod, i ett oavbrutet flöde, fungerat mycket bra både symboliskt och estetiskt. Man skulle kunna se det som att pålarna töms på mening, stereotyperna urholkas. Jag gjorde även en liten bildserie med "pålen i hemmet", där en påle används som fjärrkontroll av min pappa i familjens vardagsrum. Jag har även fortsatt med en serie teckningar i tusch med ett möte mellan Vlad Tepes och Dracula. Två myter som samtalar, men vem är mest verklig? Gammal och nytt, öst och väst. / BI

Genom postkolonial teoribildning har vi valt att göra en diskursanalys av hiphop i svensk media. Syftet är att urskilja om och hur media placerar in hiphop i schablonen ”de Andra”. Samtidigt gör vi en jämförelse med hur jazzen en gång framställdes, för att sätta det i en historisk kontext. Det empiriska materialet består av artiklar ur ett svenskt hiphopmagasin samt två hiphopvideor. Undersökningens resultat visar att det är en stereotyp bild av ”den Andre” som framställs. I jämförelsen med jazz framkommer dock att de rasistiska fördomarna i hiphop är mer subtila än de explicita uttalanden som en gång gjordes när man skrev och talade om jazz.

The didjeridu, a musical instrument once used only by Australian aboriginies in north Arnhem Land, has within little more than ten years become spread worldwide. Not only has it become a symbol of black aboriginality in Australia, but it has also taken place among koalas and bumerangs as a symbol of Australianess. It has also become widely used as a symbol of indigeniety among indigenous peoples and their spokesmen all over the world. Another large group of didjeridu-fans are ’alternative lifestylers’ and ’New-Age’ devotees, for which the didjeridu represents, among other things, a immideate connection to Mother Earth and the spiritual world. In this articel the fast transition from North Arnhem Land to Internet and back is examined, from three perspectives: the tourist’s, the musicologist’s and the cultural analyst’s. It is argued that an important reason behind the fast spread of the instrument is a major shift in the control of the knowledge of the instrument from ”knowers” to ”doers”, and that the global visibility reflects and sthrengthens rather than challenges the basic assymetrical power relations between blacks and whites, rulers and the ruled.

What’s Hiding in the Woods of the Swedish North? – About nature, humans, and exoticism in three contemporary northern Swedish novels – This essay aims at exploring the use of nature and the supernatural in contemporary northern Swedish literature, in the light of the long historical exploitation of the area and the conflicts this caused. The novels that are being examined are Stallo by Stefan spjut, Glupahungern by Andrea Lundgren and Ett föremåls berättelse om obesvar by Mikael Berglund. The essay is underpinned, first and foremost, by theories of ecocritisism and postcolonial ecocritisism in order to explore the relations between humans and environment. In addition to this, theories of time-space relations and movement as well as theories of human-animal relationships and transformations are used. The analysis focuses on movement in time-space, the relationship between bear and child, and human-bear and troll-bear transformations in the novels. The different paths that are chosen by the characters in the novels reveal varying ways in which humans relate to nature, and as a result also relations to, and ideas about, the Swedish north. For example, the nomadic people in Ett föremåls berättelse om obesvar moves according to seasonal change, while the crowns men from the south establish their settlements close to the natural resources they are exploiting, in this case silver, and adjust nature to their own needs. These relationships are also made visible in relation to the non-human animals as well as non-human animal transformations in the novels: for example the troll-bear transformations in Stallo elaborates the idea of northern Sweden as a wilderness, whilst Glupahungern rather use this idea of northern Sweden in order to criticise the anthropocentric norm. In conclusion, all three novels relate in different ways to the history of, and ideas about, the Swedish north, which in turn are closely connected to stories about nature and the supernatural. The novels display a critical relationship towards historical events, as well as present day ideas and approaches to northern Sweden, nature and animals.

Essa tese estuda os trabalhos de duas organisações que atuam na prevenção do turismo sexual de crianças e adolescentes, Ecpat na Suécia e Resposta no Brasil. Os tópicos estudados referem-se a como essas entidades organizam suas campanhas e quais as mensagens que elas enfocam. Também estuda-se o Código de Conduta/The Code of Conduct, um instrumento usado pelas duas organizações no intuito de facilitar a indústria do turismo a se comprometer na prevenção do turismo sexual de crianças e adolescentes. Desse modo, analiza-se os materiais de propaganda das agências suecas de viajem bem como faz-se um estudo geral sobre a propaganda brasileira de turismo desde a década de 1960. / This thesis studies the work of two organisations working to prevent child sex tourism, Ecpat in Sweden and Resposta in Brazil. Issues dealt with cover how the organisations campaign and what messages they choose to focus upon. I have also looked closer at the Code of Conduct, a tool used by both organisations to make the tourism industry committed to the prevention of child sex tourism. I have further analysed advertisement material from Swedish travel agencies and made a quick exposé over the Brazil tourism advertisements since the 1960s.

Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att undersöka hur samerna representeras i läroböcker. Hur framställs de beträffande genus, etnicitet, religion, kultur och historia? Tolv läroböcker har valts ut till undersökningen och analyserats med hjälp av de tidigare studier som presenteras i den här uppsatsen. Anledningen till att jag valde det här ämnet är att jag innan skrivandet inte visste så mycket om samerna. Jag hade en uppfattning att det överlag är dåliga kunskaper om samer hos både lärare och elever. Jag ville se vad de läromedel som jag valde ut innehöll samt hur det framställdes. Var det så att samerna framställdes som exotiska i böckerna och på grund av detta generade i en ”vi och dem” syn.Uppsatsens undersökning utgår från tolv läroböcker för grundskolans senare år där författarna tar upp ursprungsfolket samerna. Detta ligger till grund för den läromedelsanalys på vilken jag har byggt uppsatsen.Resultatet är uppdelat i sex delar. Läroböckerna analyseras med hjälp av tidigare forskning i resultatdelen, för att kunna diskuteras senare i diskussionsdelen. Det som kommer fram i slutsatsen är att kristendomen har påverkat samerna och hur mycket det framhävs i läroböckerna. En ytterligare punkt är hur mycket fokus det läggs på nåjden, medan andra saker som till exempel kvinnorna och hur samerna lever i dagens samhälle fokuseras det inte lika mycket på.
