Where everyone is gay and nothing hurts : Performativitet och queer temporalitet på Archive of Our Own

Larsvik, Max January 2021 (has links)
This essay aims to examine how fan fiction texts and the digital non-profit platform Archive of Our Own can provide queer separatist spaces for reorienting cis- and heteronormativity as well as how that is manifest in the published stories. It does so through an analysis of the platform’s design and accessibility and through a reading of two short stories from the collection QUEER CONVERSATIONS by the pen name heliosole. Results include that the platform makes space for non-normative stories by being free of use, its equality between moderators, writers, and users, its tradition of education and resistance, by making writing accessible and collaborative, using famous characters’ voices for speaking comforting truths and by challenging norms regarding sexuality and temporality.

Error Sensor Placement for Active Control of an Axial Cooling Fan

Shafer, Benjamin M. 24 October 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Recent experimental achievements in active noise control (ANC) for cooling fans have used near-field error sensors whose locations are determined according to a theoretical condition of minimized sound power. A theoretical point source model, based on the condition previously stated, reveals the location of near-field pressure nulls that may be used to optimize error sensor placement. The actual locations of these near-field pressure nulls for both an axial cooling fan and a monopole loudspeaker were measured over a two-dimensional grid with a linear array of microphones. The achieved global attenuation for each case is measured over a hemisphere located in the acoustic far field of the ANC system. The experimental results are compared to the theoretical pressure null locations in order to determine the efficacy of the point source model. The results closely matched the point source model with a loudspeaker as the primary source, and the sound power reduction was greatly reduced when error sensors were placed in non-ideal locations. A weakness of the current near-field modeling process is that a point monopole source is used to characterize the acoustic noise from an axial cooling fan, which may have multipole characteristics. A more complete characterization of fan noise may be obtained using a procedure based on the work of Martin and Roure [J. Sound Vib. 201 (5), 577--593 (1997)]. Pressure values are obtained over a hemisphere in the far field of a primary source and the contributions from point source distributions up to the second order, centered at the primary source, may be calculated using a multipole expansion. The source information is then used in the aforementioned theoretical near-field calculation of pressure. The error sensors are positioned using the complete fan characterization. The global far-field attenuation for the multipole expansion model of fan noise is compared to that of previous experiments. Results show that the multipole expansion model yields a more accurate representation the near field, but is not successful in achieving greater sound power reductions in the far field.

Visualizing the Non-visual : Narrative Themes and Paratextual Reflections in the Visualization of Sasha James

Reje Franzén, Fanny January 2023 (has links)
This thesis examines the themes of characterization of the character Sasha James and Not-Sasha within the media text The Magnus Archives, as well as which of the themes can be seen reflected in the visual paratextual works created by the audio dramas fan community. This is to examine what influences the visual representation created in paratextual work when the media text from which the visuals take inspiration lacks visuals and description of characters. The thesis employs a thematic-analysis approach and monster theory to understand how the horror genre and the monstrous narrative of Sasha James have helped inspire the visualizations. The result presents three themes of Sasha James' canon narrative that have impacted the visual paratextual work created by the audio dramas fan community: The “real” Sasha, Not-There, and wit. The themes showed how fans approached the subject of the monstrous body within the paratextual work by presenting a version of Not-Sasha with easily identified monstrous features, but also their willingness to employ the monster’s wit to visualize it as a humanoid version, working as a parallel to Sasha James.

Bang Bang! I Shot You Down With A Straight Bullet

Lundblad, Sofie January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of the essay is to investigate how fan activist practitioners online can create community among fans and contribute to social change for LGBTQ people. By using qualitative content analysis, I examine eight articles that analyze fans' involvement, community and practices, the relationship between producer and fans, as well as the concept of bury your gays. When I position myself in the field of fan studies, I consider the audience as an active and creative participant. My analysis also reflect my theoretical perspectives, assuming the concepts of citizenship, identity and the audience's tactics versus the producers' strategies. The result of the study shows that fans could collectively create a long-lasting and effective movement to highlight LGBTQ issues. When convergence and fan culture developed together, fans could prolong producers' culture production and provide space for self-produced material that also strengthened their identities. The conclusion is that producers have power over the medium as they can define and construct norms, but it also means that the public has control over their own form and interpretation of the content.

Pontén, Joon January 2011 (has links)

Detektivové v zajetí fanoušků / Detectives in the captivity of fans

NIKLOVÁ, Monika January 2018 (has links)
This master's thesis will explore the ways in which the fictional and real world blends with detective stories readers. In the methodological part, the author will focus on theoretical problems associated with perception of cult literary works, readers' activity and further expansion of fictional worlds. The phenomena the author will explore are, for example, fan clubs, fan fiction, fan art, naming real entities according to fictional characters and places, and searching for fictional entities in the real world. The practical part of this thesis will be devoted to three detective stories authors - A. C. Doyle, A. Christie and M. Jennings, and their functioning as cultural phenomena both in the Czech and world context.

Mécanique des fluides appliquée à la conception des matériels pour la lutte contre l'incendie / Fluid mechanics applied to the design of fire-fighting equipments

Steen, Michael 07 February 2018 (has links)
In this work we have analysed two topics of fluid mechanics, applied to the design of fire fighting equipment. The first one is the performance of ventilation during the movement of air in a compartment that contains a fire. We have shown that specific blade angle designed within the gril and placed in front of the fan propeller, allows us to manipulate the jet of air giving it an oval shape. This shape is more efficient and allows a significant gain in the air movement performance within the compartment for these fans. The second aspect of this work was to define an emulsifier dosing system in a pressurized water system. We define a venturi dosing system with a movable cone piece. The position of this conical piece is Controlled by the pressure ratio between the inlet and the outlet. Based on Bernoulli's theorem, we have demontrated that this system maintains a level of suction at the Inlet regardless of the pressure or flow passing through it.

Zuordnungsprozesse bei Fußballzuschauern - Zur Salienz teambezogener Kategorien

Roschmann, Regina 05 August 2013 (has links)
