The Newlywed

Kohne, Lauren E 29 August 2014 (has links)
This text is a written articulation of my M.F.A. Thesis show titled, The Newlywed wherein description of the work produced and my artistic process is present. This body of work is explored through a fictional character, a newlywed, who acts as an outlet for my recent experiences living in western Massachusetts. The sculptures are made up of collections of the everyday, mundane objects that surround me and that propel me to contemplate where they came from, and what their histories were. The objects then become instruments for the creation of new stories.

Mr Chester Jester / Mr Chester Jester

Ågren, Johanna January 2012 (has links)
My bachelor project is a work of pattern design and production of woven upholstery fabrics, digital prints on textile materials and wallpaper, made for a fictional home environment. The desicions for the designs are based on a fictional character, named Mr Chester Jester. His preferences and needs combined with my omn are the result of this project. The outcome of the work is a formation of his world, made into a study of his home on the edge of reality and illusions. It is a work of duplicities -of pattern, room, technique and of an alternate side of myself.I have investigated the illusion of reality, and the reality of illusions. / Program: Textildesignutbildningen

Virtual influencers : Anonymous celebrities on social media

Darner, Anna, Arvidsson, Nickie January 2019 (has links)
Virtual influencer is a new phenomenon operating on social networks. Since this is new, there is not a lot of research about that field. Therefor the purpose of this study is to get a better understanding about virtual influencers and how they operate on instagram. Which will be done by identifying which key factors that needs to be considered in the process of creation and management of a virtual influencer. Experiment has been used as a method. A virtual character has been created as well as its account on instagram. During 2 months, data has been collected and has revealed that there are different factors that can impact the creation and management of a virtual influencers account. The key factors that have been identified are the realism of the character, the changing algorithm of instagram as well as the accounts content itself. Firstly, the character should be realistic but the fictional part of it should be at least noticeable in order to generate curiosity. Secondly, the instagram algorithm makes a difference if it is managed right. The last key factor is the content of the account itself; it needs to be adapted to the audience and the content in the posts as well as the overall aesthetic of the feed need to be visually appealing in order to raise interest.

Konstrukce postavy : postava ve fikčních světech a světech příběhu / Charakter construction : character within fictional worlds and storyworlds

Staniševská, Aneta January 2015 (has links)
The thesis being presented aims to stress the differences between characters in fictional worlds and characters in storyworlds by means of question of possibilities and limits of reader's inferences. The aims of this thesis is to prove that storyworld construed as a mental model manages to avoid some problems that relate to fictional worlds theories. First chapter provides an insight into the issue of definitions and theories of character and places cognitive approaches to character within it. Since a concept of fictional world and a concept of storyworld are often construed as very alike, in the second chapter, there are two opposed opinions concerning reader's activity during a construction of fictional world; that is theories of Lubomír Doležel and Marie-Laure Ryan. By means of their mutual comparision, the distinctive status of fictional character concerning reader's inferences is being emphasized that further bears a decisive role within theory of Umberto Eco of which a core is presented in chapter three. The link between story comprehension and construction of fictional character is a centre of interest of chapter four, where cognitive approaches are represented by theories by Alan Palmer and David Herman. This chapter presents storyworld and character within it as open and fluid flexible....

Through this work, we aim to make a study of Marcela, a character of the novel A ostra e o vento, by Moacir Costa Lopes, taking into account the way the complexity of the fictitious being is constituted through an analysis of structural, semantic, and thematic elements. We first will bring up a brief theoretical discussion about the character in a novel, and we also will carefully analyze the diagetic universe, presenting the complex path of the character further. Subsequently, we will focus on the structure of the narrative which creates a complex picture of the character, using the technique of crossed points of view as well as the technique of temporal fragmentation. Finally, we will investigate conflicting social relations that portray Marcela s disturbed inner side, as well as the metaphoric symbolic language, which furnishes a number of different representation of this character, impeding the creation of a well-structured coherent character.

Karlsson, Evelina, Lindström, Anneli January 2014 (has links)
Ystad is a popular tourist destination for Swedish and foreign visitors, and has been for a long time. The city with its nice environment and its historic buildings attract tourists to the region. After filming Henning Mankell's novels about criminal inspector Kurt Wallander, set in Ystad, the number of tourists has increased even more to the region. The relationship between books and movies is an essential part of the tourism that occurs after a story about a fictional character in an existing environment. We would therefore consider movie and literary tourism and its impact on a location interesting to examine. To conduct the study a qualitative approach with qualitative interviews. was applied. Film and literature tourism is increasing in the tourism industry and it is hence relevant to study its existence and significance of a place. The results of the study show that the effects of a destination in film and literature tourism are numerous. When a place is illustrated through movies or books it may get a "sacred" aspect for its biggest enthusiasts. The location depicted may also use the films and the books as a marketingiimethod and through the strengthening of its brand. However, collaboration between public and private actors works well in order to take advantage of location-based film and literary tourism in the best possible way.

The Intellectual Property Protection of Fictional Characters: Interplay of Copyright and Trademark Law

Tai, Shih Chieh Unknown Date (has links)

Plet, Charles 12 1900 (has links)
The girl is more important than ever in Fin-de-Siècle France : the rising conflict between the Third Republic and the Church puts the spotlight on this now unavoidable fictional character. And yet, very few studies have focused on her. The same could be said of the Catholic Novel, which has not received much critical attention over the last decades. This study thus aims at describing the features of the girl in French turn-of-the-century Catholic literature, and the ways she is used by Catholic writers to undermine the basis of the new (anticlerical) Republic. But Catholic writers are far from agreeing on the ways the girl should be depicted : some believe that her fictional representation should have moral and ideological effects on the readers (romance and traditionalist writers such as M. Maryan, Henry Bordeaux, René Bazin and Paul Bourget), while others think it should inspire in them the love of the Passion of Jesus (spiritual writers like Barbey d’Aurevilly, Léon Bloy and Émile Baumann). In short, this study shows how, in Fin-de-Siècle French literature, the girl becomes one of the major instruments of the conflicts between Catholics and Republicans, but also between Catholics.
