[en] ANALYSIS OF FOREST FRAGMENTS AND THE NATIVE VEGETATION PROTECTION LAW: THE MUNICIPALITY OF SILVA JARDIM, RJ / [pt] ANÁLISE DA FRAGMENTAÇÃO FLORESTAL E A LEI DE PROTEÇÃO DA VEGETAÇÃO NATIVA: O MUNICÍPIO DE SILVA JARDIM, RJTHAIS GULIAS OLIVEIRA 22 December 2020 (has links)
[en] The municipality of Silva Jardim, whose region has a rich biodiversity in both flora and fauna, in its fragmented biome. One of the allies for the conservation process of the biomes are the laws implemented by the Native Vegetation Protection Law because it aims to protect mainly the most fragile areas and of extreme importance for the recovery of the landscape. In this sense, this dissertation aimed to evaluate the conservation potential based on the integration of forest fragment analysis and the Native Vegetation Protection Law (Law 12.651 / 12). For that, the methodology looked at the entire historical occupation process of the county. Specialize Native Vegetation Protection Law through geoprocessing techniques in a GIS environment. Using the principles of landscape ecology, were chosen the landscape metrics to assess fragments in the V-Late software, thus being able to characterize the current scenery. As a result, 33.2 percent of Silva Jardim s total was protected by the Native Vegetation Protection Law. The very small and large fragments were the ones that attracted the most attention in the final analysis, with 45 percent of their areas protected, due to their distribution across the landscape. Finally, when we analyze the efficiency of Native Vegetation Protection Law, we cannot cancel the occupation process, given that the most fragmented areas are within the limits of permanent preservation watercourse sector in flat territories. Therefore, it is necessary to think about education and awareness plans for the conservation of the Atlantic Forest.

On +, (H2O)nO−, (H2O)nOH− e On
−. Para misturas de gelos H2O:C2H2 e
H2O:C2H6, são observadas as séries (C2H2)n
+ e (C2H6)n
+. Para H2O:N2O, as
séries Nn
+, (O)nN2
emitidos.
[en] A PDMS-252Cf-TOF (Time-of-Flight Plasma Desorption Mass Spectrometry)
mass spectrometer was used to analyze condensed samples of pure water
and mixtures of H2O:C2H2, H2O:C2H6 and H2O:N2O, at temperatures between
10 and 100 K. The ions desorbed due to the projectile impact were identified
and their desorption yields determined. It is observed that the yield distributions
as a function of the mass of the ions can be described by the sum of
two exponentials. This result strongly suggests that two processes of aggregate
formation occur: one, via direct emission of fragments from the solid and the
other, via recombination of fragments in the gas phase. For pure H2O, the
main desorbed aggregates are: ((H2O)nH2O+, (H2O)nH3O+, On
+, (H2O)nO−,
(H2O)nOH− and On
−. For mixtures of ices H2O:C2H2 and H2O:C2H6, the series
(C2H2)n
+ and (C2H6)n
+ are observed. For H2O:N2O, the series Nn
+, (O)nN2
+,
(O)nN2−, (O)nN4−, and (N2)nNO+ are the most abundant.
Density Functional Theory (DFT), at the B3LYP/6-31G level, was
used to calculate the molecular stability of emitted secondary molecular ions.
Calculations for the C2Hm
+ structures (with m = 1 to 6) generated 26 stable
structures. The stability curves per mass/charge obtained are compared with
those obtained experimentally for the desorption yields per mass/charge for the
same ions. Such methodology is used to predict the most likely conformations
of the desorbed ions.

je parlerai des amélanchiers de saint-maxime-du-mont-louis is a collection of fragments written in four sections/seasons. The narrative takes the form of an ecological mosaic, representing the reality of a certain community in Haute-Gaspésie (horticulture, trauma, solidarity, kindness, violence, resilience, self-sufficiency). This text, guided by hope and tenderness, addresses the abuses enabled by capitalism and private ownership. je parlerai des amélanchiers de saint-maxime-du-mont-louis shows a world of complex and fluid possibilities, where nature stands its ground: trees are still growing, and birds chirping.
ARWEN 37 – une tentative is a fragmented essay analyzing the aims and effects of Nathalie Quintane’s novel Un œil en moins. The text analyzes the separation (or ties) between politics and literature, and questions the extent to which literature can perform political resistance. While bringing up both personal and social stories, this essay attempts to deconstruct the norms ordering the redaction of a masters’ dissertation in littératures de langue française. This text provides a critique of the power dynamics defining our relations with political, economic and academic institutions.

transgressionReres, Shannon Elizabeth 14 December 2023 (has links)
"transgression" is a poetry collection with claws and nail polish. Across four acts, Reres uses a chorus of voices to interrogate the role of the transgressing woman—both present and past, privately and publicly. Transgressing, for Reres, is a performance. Moreover, it is a performance in which women have been asked, coerced—even forced—to participate for millenia. By stepping into the role of the transgressing woman deliberately, Reres turns this tradition on its head. In these pages, she shows that there is power in putting on masks and costumes, just as there is power in taking them off. The difference—between performance as power and performance as prison—resides in the freedom to choose. / Master of Fine Arts / "transgression" is a poetry collection.

The Long Lives of Old Lutes: The Cultural and Material History of the Veneration of Old Musical InstrumentsKirsch, Sebastian 07 July 2023 (has links)
This study examines the object biographies of musical instruments and the function of age in the cultural and material history of the lute. It follows the central question of why old instruments were valued more greatly than new ones and what measures had to be executed to adapt the objects to the ever-changing musical style. It traces the lute in its several cultural functions from the 17th to the 19th century: as a musical instrument, as a symbol, as a commodity, and as an object that had to be adapted, repaired, and altered by several generations of lute makers. This interdisciplinary approach uses a broad spectrum of sources from treatises, lute manuals, forewords in printed lute music, and depictions of lutes in literature, poetry, and visual arts to construct a narrative of the appreciation of old musical instruments. It investigates the material changes that were necessary to ensure their continued use by a profound study of more than 100 instruments in public and private collections. The different business models and prices in the trade of lutes are compared and connected to the common knowledge about old instruments and their brand characteristics among lute players. This study employs methods from musicology, organology, material culture studies, acoustics, economics, art history, technology, and digital humanities. This multivalent approach enhances the understanding of the general dynamics of commodities as status symbols, object biographies, and functional objects and connects them to the material and cultural history of objects using the lute as a case study.

Decomposing compounds enables reconstruction of interaction fingerprints for structure‑based drug screeningAdasme, Melissa F., Bolz, Sarah Naomi, Al‑Fatlawi, Ali, Schroeder, Michael 22 January 2024 (has links)
Background: Structure-based drug repositioning has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional drug development. Regardless of the many success stories reported over the past years and the novel breakthroughs on the AI-based system AlphaFold for structure prediction, the availability of structural data for protein–drug complexes remains very limited. Whereas the chemical libraries contain millions of drug compounds, the vast majority of them do not have structures to crystallized targets, and it is, therefore, impossible to characterize their binding to targets from a structural view. However, the concept of building blocks offers a novel perspective on the structural problem. A drug compound is considered a complex of small chemical blocks or fragments, which confer the relevant properties to the drug and have a high proportion of functional groups involved in protein binding. Based on this, we propose a novel approach to expand the scope of structure-based repositioning approaches by transferring the structural knowledge from a fragment to a compound level. - Results: We fragmented over 100,000 compounds in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and characterized the structural binding mode of 153,000 fragments to their crystallized targets. Using the fragment’s data, we were able to artificially reconstruct the binding mode of over 7,800 complexes between ChEMBL compounds and their known targets, for which no structural data is available. We proved that the conserved binding tendency of fragments, when binding to the same targets, highly influences the drug’s binding specificity and carries the key information to reconstruct full drugs binding mode. Furthermore, our approach was able to reconstruct multiple compound-target pairs at optimal thresholds and high similarity to the actual binding mode. - Conclusions: Such reconstructions are of great value and benefit structure-based drug repositioning since they automatically enlarge the technique’s scope and allow exploring the so far ‘unexplored compounds’ from a structural perspective. In general, the transfer of structural information is a promising technique that could be applied to any chemical library, to any compound that has no crystal structure available in PDB, and even to transfer any other feature that may be relevant for the drug discovery process and that due to data limitations is not yet fully available. In that sense, the results of this work document the full potential of structure-based screening even beyond PDB.

Membrane-bound beta-amyloid oligomers are recruited into lipid rafts by a fyn-dependent mechanismWilliamson, Ritchie, Usardi, A., Hanger, D.P., Anderton, B.H. January 2008 (has links)
No / Recently published research indicates that soluble oligomers of beta-amyloid (Abeta) may be the key neurotoxic species associated with the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and that the process of Abeta aggregation may drive this event. Furthermore, soluble oligomers of Abeta and tau accumulate in the lipid rafts of brains from AD patients through an as yet unknown mechanism. Using cell culture models we report a novel action of Abeta on neuronal plasma membranes where exogenously applied Abeta in the form of ADDLs can be trafficked on the neuronal membrane and accumulate in lipid rafts. ADDL-induced dynamic alterations in lipid raft protein composition were found to facilitate this movement. We show clear associations between Abeta accumulation and redistribution on the neuronal membrane and alterations in the protein composition of lipid rafts. In addition, our data from fyn(-/-) transgenic mice show that accumulation of Abeta on the neuronal surface was not sufficient to cause cell death but that fyn is required for both the redistribution of Abeta and subsequent cell death. These results identify fyn-dependent Abeta redistribution and accumulation in lipid rafts as being key to ADDL-induced cell death and defines a mechanism by which oligomers of Abeta and tau accumulate in lipid rafts.
