About Sex and Relationships in Differently Abled Pupils : A Qualitative Study of Pupils in Special Schools

Elfvelin, Love, Moberg, Frida January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate how teachers in schools for youths with intellectual disabilities view their pupils’ abilities to access sex education. The study is based on individual interviews with five teachers in years 6 - 9. The theoretical framework has been set by Michel Foucault’s theories on normality and power and “the ignored curriculum” as described by Nathalie A. Gougeon. It is also supported by additional theories on normality and sexuality. The results of the study show that, these pupils have a harder time finding information about sex and relationships, because of the stigma surrounding people with intellectual disabilities in relation to sexuality, and because of the lack of information about sex outside the classroom for youths with intellectual disabilities. Youths with no intellectual disabilities learn about sex also outside of classrooms to a large extent, which is more difficult for youths with intellectual disabilities. The role of the teacher as provider of sex education is therefore crucial.

Wester, Emelie January 2018 (has links)
This bachelor’s thesis in spatial planning investigates the possible designs of urban public places for an organic humanfocused perspective for an increased accessibility for people with highly sensitive senses to the citys public environments. This work focus on high sensory experience and how through this environments that are better for alla humans can be created, at the same time as more disabilities needs (even neurologicals) gets involved when citys environments gets planed. This work is an combination of spatial plannings urban design teories of known teoretics and knowledge of how the environment through the sensory input affects the people that lives and stay there. Where a big need have been identifyed for increased accessability to public places so that it involves individuals with an higher sensory input as for example is an character of people with some neurological disabilties as on the same time make a fysical planing focus on people firstly. As the costomizations after the ideals of the more extrem experiens will make the environment considerably better even for the “normal”(general) experiencer. Through questionnaires an image is created of how individuals with an higher sensory experince precives the public urban environment and togheter with literary knowledge as well as case studies, do this work create knowledge in how those environments can be designed. This knowledge will be illustrated in pictures and priciples in the results of this paper.

Approaches to sexuality at group homes. : A qualitative study about the space for sexuality for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Håkansson, Hanna January 2019 (has links)
In Sweden there is a limited research about adults with intellectual disabilities and their sexuality through a social work perspective. This study aims to study how workers in group homes and their managers describes the residents sexuality and describes how they approaches their sexuality at work. And if there’s any facilities or hindrance that affects the sexual space. 5 semi-structured interviews with managers and coordinators, and 3 focus groups with carers where made. For analysis script theory and the charmed circle have been used. The result shows that people who works at group homes has no guidance or collective ways to approach sexuality in their work. They talk about an open approach but often describes the residents as asexual and connects sexuality with the level of disabilities. The respondents acknowledge that they need more knowledge. The conclusion is that there’s a need for more knowledge and guidance for people who work at group homes to extend the space for sexuality for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Infografik för alla (IFA) : design av information för individer med synvariationer / Infographics for all (IFA) : designing information for the visually impaired

Brännström, Sanne, Lunnerhag, Miranda January 2020 (has links)
Infographics has become a popular method for displaying information in the digital society. Previous research have mainly focused on how people with normal visual ability perceive infographics on the web, but there is a certain need to examine infographics from a perspective that focuses on accessibility to include people with visual impairment. This paper presents the design concept “IFA”, which stands for “Infographics For All”. The concept was developed with the aim of finding out how a design concept for infographics for the visually impaired can be designed, and was developed by concept-driven design research. The design concept presents a color contribution, the color violet, which the authors have not encountered in the research field of the subject before. Previously recommended colors such as turquoise and magenta were tested and proved inaccessible to the target group. The research of the design concept also confirmed existing theories, such as the importance of high contrast between text and background and fairly large font sizes. Suggestions for future research may contain to test the concept, “IFA”, in a real-life user context, as well as to develop a version of the concept that is based on the opposite of what is recommended in this thesis, to compare the effects of the concepts in a real-life user context.
