Eco-purification de produits naturels par CPC : changement d'échelle et solvants alternatifs / Natural products eco-purification by CPC : scale-up and alternative solventsBouju, Élodie 18 November 2015 (has links)
First, the manuscript describes the differents preparative techniques commonly used for natural products purification. Then, the centrifugal partition chromatography technique is detailed. The green chemistry concept is subsequently introduced and discussed in regard to its application in purification process. A method development is realized on a small scale CPC, illustrating the reduction of solvent consumption and waste production, through the carnosol purification from rosemary. Later, a new scale-up methodology for CPC is introduced to efficiently transfer the method on larger instrument and increase production. This new methodology will allow for a CPC user to reduce solvent and energy consumption and chemical wastes discharges. This scale-up methodology is then applied to carnosol purification from a rosemary solid extract. Finally, the last part of this manuscript is devoted to petroleum solvents substitution by more environmentally friendly solvents like bio-sourced solvents

The establishement of the National Research Agency (ANR) in France and its consequences in the area of plant genomics and green chemistrySchultz, Emilien 20 June 2016 (has links)
The National Research Agency (ANR) created in 2005 brings the French research system closer to Anglo-saxon ones, where funding agencies play an important part in research policies. Based on an investigation of the ANR and two funding programs in plant genomics and green chemistry, this dissertation shows the significant role played by the ANR in the transformation of funding allocation in France. It contributes both to sociology of science policies and to sociology of organisations. We use data from interviews with researchers, statistical analysis of submitted projects and various reports and media contents. We show that the ANR is an intermediate and semi-autonomous organisation whose aims have significantly evolved since its creation in 2005. The definition of its missions has been a continuous object of struggles which can be seen in the « career » of the agency. Because the ANR mainly « governs through projects », its activities led to the multiplication of competitive calls for projects in France. Some of the consequences are the singularisation of local situations, the scattering of research communities and a change in how researchers behave regarding fundings. More broadly, we show that the multiplication of competitive project funding opportunities leads to an « economy of projectified research ». In this type of economy, the main issue for researchers is to control the way their research is converted into « project » in order to be funded.

Synthèse de nouveaux nanomateriaux par ablation laser ultra-brève en milieu liquide pour des applications biomédicales / Synthesis of novel nanomaterials for biomedical applications by ultrashort laser ablation in liquidsMaximova, Ksenia 15 December 2014 (has links)
Inorganic nanomaterials are of a major interest for numerous applications, specifically bioimaging, biomedicine, catalysis, and also surface enhanced Raman scattering spectroscopy. In most cases, the purity of the employed material is a key factor. Often the conventional chemical ways of synthesis cannot provide the desirable cleanliness. The aim of this thesis is to investigate and develop a laser-based synthetic concept for the fabrication of Au and Si-based nanoparticles with controlled parameters, free of surfactants and toxic by-products. The engaged approach includes two steps: 1) the generation of a raw suspension of micro- and nanoparticles by either mechanical milling or preliminary ablation of a target; 2) ultrafast laser-induced fragmentation from the suspended colloids leading to the formation of stable, non-aggregated, low-size dispersed and crystalline nanoparticles. In particular, we focus on the technique of the synthesis of bare Au nanoparticles with tunable size between 7 and 50 nm in the absence of any ligands. Moreover, this technique allows performing the in situ coupling of the Au nanoparticles with organic molecules and alloying at the nanoscale. Furthermore, we show the possibility of tuning the mean size and the thickness of the oxide shell of Si nanoparticles by varying the initial concentration of microparticles, the pH and the amount of dissolved oxygen. Finally, we demonstrate the optic and plasmonic properties of the nanoparticles synthesized by the techniques established in our work and their potential for the applications in catalysis and biomedicine.

Eco-Extraction des huiles essentielles et des arômes alimentaires en vue d'une application comme agents antioxydants et antimicrobiens / Eco Extraction of essential oils and aromas for their use as antioxydants and antimicrobialsMnayer, Dima 09 December 2014 (has links)
Plant essential oils and aromas are a real potential for the industry to substitute the synthetic compounds that might have harmful effects on the human health and the environment. In order to contribute to the green chemistry principles, this study focuses on the “eco-extraction” and valorization of natural plant extracts and the development of a new «green» technology for the extraction of aromatic compounds. The first part of this manuscript highlights the biological properties of the essential oils and aromas and the importance of their applications in various sectors especially in the food industry. In the second part, studies on the biological properties of the essential oils from plants of the Alliaceae family show their good antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. These encouraging results have allowed in the third part to evaluate the onion by-products resulting from the turbo hydrodistillation, which are normally considered as waste. The technique offers a good extraction of flavonoids and phenols using water as natural solvent. The fourth and final part of this work deals with the optimization and the development of a «green» technology using ultrasound and sunflower oil as a natural solvent for the extraction of aromatic compounds from thyme. This new ecological approach allows the extraction of absolutes free from waxes and petroleum solvent residues, having the highest content in thymol and exerting the strongest antioxidant activity.

Synthèse énantiosélective d’1,2 et 1,3-diamines et Développement de réactions multicomposants dans des conditions oxydantes / Enantioselective Synthesis of 1,2 and 1,3-diamines and Development of multicomponent reactions in oxidative conditionsDrouet, Fleur 16 December 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is the development of new access to highly functionalized nitrogen-containing compounds with respect to the green chemistry principles.First, an Ugi four-component reaction from alcohols has been studied. In the presence of hypervalent iodine compounds, used as oxidant and introduced in stoechiometric or catalytic quantites, an efficient one-pot sequence has been developed. Then, a new four-component Mannich reaction using a catalytic amount of BINOL-derived phosphoric acid gave an access to enantioenriched 1,3-diamines from enamides. Changing the electrophilic imine partner to a diazene compound afforded aminoketones or 1,2-diamines precursors in high yields and excellent enantiomeric excess. Finally, two new iron-catalyzed multicomponent reactions of enamides with TEMPO and various nucleophiles provided an efficient synthesis of aminoalcohols derivatives. These domino reactions involving an oxidative process from enamides offered a convenient and economical method to establish two C-O bonds in a single operation.

This thesis is about sustainability within chemistry, the so-called, green chemistry. With this work I seek to combine green chemistry with sustainable development and find methods for teaching green chemistry in a laboratory environement. I have designed and tested two labs with ingredients of green chemistry and sustainable development in my study. I wanted to determine if my design model leads to conception for the students. The students have through forms and interviews declared their perspective on the education and their conception. In a laboratory environment the pros of a laboratory way of work should be recognized. Pre- and post-work puts the lab in a context. The students understand the concepts better if they are allowed to test their knowledge in a discussion. The teachers role in the discussion should be to lift the level of the discussion by controlling the conversation and in a constructiveway contribute to making the discussion move forward whenever necessary.

Investigation of hemicellulose biomaterial approaches : the extraction and modification of hemicellulose and its use in value-added applications / Stratégies d'Investigation de Biomatériaux à base d'Hémicellulose : Extraction et Modification de l'Hémicellulose et son Utilisation pour Applications à Haute Valeur AjoutéeFarhat, Wissam 31 August 2018 (has links)
The increased use of renewable materials is considered as one of the key issue of the sustainable development. Carbohydrates are readily biodegradable and tend to degrade in biologically active environments. Hemicelluloses (HC) are one of the most common polysaccharides next to cellulose and chitin, representing about 20-35% of lignocellulosic biomass, and have not yet found broad industrial applications as does cellulose. Hemicellulose is a hetero-polysaccharide and a green substitute for petroleum based polyols and is a non-food-based substitute for starch polyols. The aims of this project are to develop an optimized strategy for the extraction of hemicellulose and the use of the extracted hemicellulose in value-added biomaterials. The extraction of hemicellulose would have great potential to supply raw materials for the new bio-economy. To expand its applications to the field of stimuli-responsive hydrogels, coating and adhesives, polymer networks, as well as drug-delivery systems, the properties of hemicellulose were functionalized by introducing reactive groups onto its main chain to reversibly crosslink it by the Diels-Alder reaction. Hemicellulose based materials were prepared and characterized for their suitable application. Finally, the worldwide potential demand for replacing petroleum-derived raw materials by renewable resources in the production of valuable biodegradable polymeric materials is significant from both social and environmental viewpoints fuel and will predominate in the coming periods.

Green stabilization of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) with rhamnolipids produced by agro-industrial waste : application on nitrate reduction /Moura, Cinthia Cristine de. January 2019 (has links)
To reduce or remove these pollutants, contaminated sites are usually treated using physical and chemical methods. However, most of these remediation techniques are expensive and commonly lead to incomplete removal and to the production of secondary wastes. Nanotechnology is the production and application of extremely small structures, whose dimensions are in the range of 1 to 100 nm and Nanoscale zero-valent iron represents a new generation of environmental remediation technologies, is non-toxic, abundant, cheap, easy to produce, and its reduction process requires little maintenance. Nonetheless, in order to diminish the tendency of aggregation, nanoscale zero-valent iron is often coated with surfactants. Most surfactants are chemically synthesized from petrochemical sources, they are slowly or partially biodegradable, while offer low harm to humans, such compounds can influence plants and animals. To decrease the use of chemical methods green synthesis and stabilization of metallic nanomaterials viable option. Biosurfactants can potentially replace virtually any synthetic they are extracellular compounds produced by microbes such as by bacteria and grown on different carbon sources containing hydrophobic/hydrophilic substrates. [en] GREENER BENZOXAZINE-EPOXY COATINGS: INVESTIGATING FROM SYNTHESIS TO APPLICATION / [pt] REVESTIMENTOS MAIS VERDES DE BENZOXAZINA E EPÓXI: INVESTIGANDO DA SÍNTESE À APLICAÇÃOLUCIO ROSSI DE SOUZA 31 May 2021 (has links)
[en] Corrosion is a natural phenomenon that affects virtually every material, consumes billions of dollars annually worldwide and may result in catastrophic events. Coating is the most utilized technique to prevent corrosion. In this sense, epoxies are widely applied in all sectors of industry. Despite being high performance polymers, epoxies present issues, such as the use of toxic crosslinkers and long curing time. Benzoxazines are an emerging class of high performance self-curing thermosets. While typical monomers are based on mono- and difunctional derivatives, higher functional benzoxazines, prepared without using solvents, but purified with nontoxic solvents, are more desirable towards a greener synthesis of PBZ for high performance applications. Herein, we describe an environment-friendly approach to synthesizing a trifunctional benzoxazine from melamine, phenol, and paraformaldehyde. The chemical structure of the synthesized benzoxazine was confirmed by spectroscopic analyses, while the polymerization was monitored by thermal analysis. The synthesized benzoxazine monomer is, then, copolymerized with a commercial difunctional epoxy resin. We investigate the synergistic effect on improved thermal properties using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed that a glass transition temperature of up to 268 Degrees C was obtained. A higher thermal stability was also achieved with an onset degradation of nearly 400 Degrees C and char yield of 22 wt (percentage) at 800 degrees C. Later, the copolymer was combined with silica to produce anticorrosion coatings. Results revealed superhydrophobic surfaces with great scratch resistance and adhesion to steel substrate. Electrochemical test proved high effectiveness of the coatings as anti-corrosion barrier, with increasing performance with the incorporation of silica.

Lignin in Cosmetics: State of the Art : Discerning the value of lignin in the cosmetic industryHenriksson, Nellie, Nordell, Klas January 2023 (has links)
This study was carried out at the Department of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials,Uppsala University, one of several places where the interest of lignin in cosmetics is constantly growing. The functionalities of lignin have been studied to a great extent revealing its potential as a natural biopolymer to serve as a replacement for environmentally hazardous components in cosmetic formulations, namely UV-filters in sunscreens. Using ethnographic methods and qualitative interviews the lignin-cosmetic industry was observed and analyzed in order to discern how concerned the industry is with ecological andaesthetic value. Ecological value is a hallmark of the value proposition in the cosmetic industry, and leaders of the industry indeed share this view. The analysis further revealed that the actors of the lignin-cosmetic industry are at different stages of development and that as of this year we can expect the first product to be launched. Furthermore, the value chain of the lignin actors was identified and for the first time mapped out in detail from the qualitative analysis that was carried out targeting lignin actors within the lignin-cosmetic industry. Mapping the value chain revealed the actors included in the entire chain identified as biorefinery, manufacturer, modifier, formulator, distributor and retailer which together compose the lignin-cosmetic value chain. A qualitative, semi structured interview approach was used and adapted as we met with eleven actors interviewing them about ecological and aesthetic values in the lignin based product value proposition. The grounded theory was applied to analyze the data, generating eight categories representing the concepts comprising ecological and aesthetic values of the value proposition. The kernel category, Green Profile, explains the most important concepts valued by lignin actors in terms of what ecological and aesthetic value could be offered to be appealing to customers. The findings of this study reveals the current situation of lignin in the cosmetic market as of today, and discerns where the value of lignin lies. The understanding of lignin actors' values contributes to the current gray-area in biopolymer research, lacking information on the value chain of lignin in cosmetics. The findings therefore foster the advancement of sustainable innovative solutions for cosmetics and personal care.
