Föreliggande studie undersöker Jessica Schiefauers roman Pojkarna (2011) med utgångspunkt i upprätthållande och konstruktion av olika samspelande kategorier och hur dessa kategorier bidrar till normreproducerande eller normbrytande. Studien tar avstamp i tidigare forskning om förklädnadsromaner, flicksexualitet i ungdomsromaner och studier som berör romanen Pojkarna. Studien utgår från queerteori och analysen är en kvalitativ textanalys. Resultatet av analysen visar att kategorierna kön, sexualitet och ålder konstrueras och upprätthålls genom en heteronormativ förståelse av kön. Det innebär att könen framställs som binära motsatspar. Flickorna och pojkarna beskrivs genomgående med egenskaper som ställs mot varandra och det är tydliga förväntningar på vad som förväntas av dem. Normer reproduceras och bryts med olika mycket genomslag beroende på vilken kategori som avses. Normerna kring kön och sexualitet reproduceras, bortsett från enstaka normbrytande inslag, i enlighet med den heterosexuella matrisen och föreställningen om två binära kön. Gällande kategorin ålder är det genomgående ett tydligt normöverskridande.

This thesis investigates how women and the natural world are naturalized and feminized within the 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki. I construct this analysis through a Marxist Ecofeminist framework that highlights the role of reproductive labor in the subordination of both women and nature. By focusing on Princess Nausicaä and the Ohmu I identify and problematize the ways in which women are naturalized and “nature” is feminized within the film.

This paper uses narrative theory to take a look at how speech is represented in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and how speech is connected to the characterisation of Frankenstein's Creature. The paper also looks at how the Creature's characterisation changes when he is made non-speaking in Richard Brinsley Peake 1823 stage play Presumption and the 1931 film Frankenstein. In these two adaptations, the Creature's characterisation is changed to make him less complex, and simultaneously both more innocent and more monstrous. By connecting this change to Disability Studies, this paper finds that using disabled traits to dehumanise disabled people is not uncommon in fiction, and that using an autistic trait in a fictional monster can reinforce harmful stereotypes about autistic people.

This study examines the selection and portrayal of the romantic era’s authors and literary traits in three textbooks for the upper secondary course Swedish 2 using hermeneutic qualitative analysis with comparative elements. The textbooks are examined through the lens of gender oriented and postcolonial literary theories. The results show that the textbooks present a unified view of the traits of the romantic era and uphold the author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe as the main representative of the ideals of the romantic era. Female authors are largely underrepresented in two of the textbooks, and treated differently from male authors in all textbooks, with more emphasis being placed on their private lives, relationships with men and engagement in women’s issues rather than literary and societal impact. Non-western authors and literary works are completely absent from the sections on romanticism, and postcolonial themes in romantic literature are largely overlooked.
