The goal of this essay is to examine the gender systems and potential critique of these gender systems in Makten and Felet med Eden using a discourse analysis and a character analysis focused on gender. These findings are then tested for their potential didactic potential, and this is connected to the values that must be present in Swedish schools. This essay finds that both books have aspects that confirm and contradict current gender norms. Makten contains a lot of critique of these structures, while Felet med Eden is somewhat contradictory in its critique. Both books were found to have didactic potential and could favorably be used in work focused on gender from the perspective of the fundamental values of the Swedish school system (värdegrunden).

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur kvinnors sexuella och emotionella frigörelse skildras i skönlitteratur från det moderna genombrottets 1880-tal. Materialet som ligger till grund för uppsatsen är Victoria Benedictssons roman Pengar (1885), Anne Charlotte Lefflers drama Sanna kvinnor (1883), Amanda Kerfstedts novell ”Synd” (1881) och Mathilda Mallings novell ”Pyrrhussegrar” (1886).   Med utgångspunkt i genusteori och intersektionalitet analyseras de skönlitterära verken genom en textnära läsning utifrån frågeställningarna:  1) Hur skildras kvinnors sexuella och emotionella frigörelse i de litterära verken? 2) Vilka aspekter av den samtida sedlighetsdebatten skildrar författarna? och 3) Vilka didaktiska möjligheter finns för verken i relation till svenskämnets kursplaner? Analysen visar att kvinnors sexualitet skildras som starkt kontrollerad av män. Författarna för fram kritik mot den sexuella dubbelmoralen, unga kvinnors brist på kunskap om sexualitet, samt ojämställdheten mellan män och kvinnor. De skönlitterära verkens didaktiska möjligheter utgörs av 1) texternas olikheter gällande längd och form (roman, drama, noveller), 2) svenskämnets kursplaner med fokus på skönlitteratur från olika tidsperioder och relationen mellan skönlitteratur och samhällsutveckling, samt 3) gymnasieskolans kunskapsområde ”Sex, samtycke och relationer” med fokus på sexualitet, könsroller och jämställdhet.

This essay employs an ecocritical reading of the book Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman to analyse its portrayal of pollution and climate change. The essay also focuses on the genre cli-fi to see how the novel fits within it. The analysis of the book is intertwined with comments about the past and current handling of the environment and our climate crisis. It discusses how Christianity plays part in our view of the environment and our own responsibility. Throughout the essay it becomes clear that Good Omens fits within cli-fi and discusses serious topics regarding climate change and the anthropocentric worldview. The essay establishes that we must change how we view the environment if we wish to continue to be able to live on the planet. The conclusion is that Good Omens is a novel which is easily discussed through the lens of ecocriticism and cli-fi and that further studies on the subject would be beneficial. This essay will demonstrate how the character Anne from Anne of Green Gables is open to multiple interpretations. I specifically look at the character Anne from the perspective of gender and queer theory. Anne can be read as someone who has both feminine and masculine traits. She is assigned female at birth and lives in the 19th century, in a society where gender norms and normative behavior were strictly defined. During the novel, Anne must learn how to become a “proper girl” by performing gender norms. Her difficulty with this, as well as her expression of desire for other women, allows for queer readings of her character

The research conducted in this paper will concern the development of the Gothic trope of hauntings in a comparative analysis of two gothic novels, Wuthering Heights (1847) by Emily Brontë and The Haunting of Hill House (1959) by Shirley Jackson. The analysis will focus on how hauntings of various forms are presented and what they represent in the two texts before and after the development of psychoanalytical studies, particularly Sigmund Freud’s conceptualization of “Das Unheimliche”. The analysis will be supported by cultural and historical notions and background scholarship.
