This work consisted of a historical study of the construction's trajectory and organization of the school knowledge in mathematics in the German-Brazilian schools, stablished in the end of 19th century and beginning of 20th century, in Rio Grande do Sul State, south of Brazil. The construction and/or reformulation process of school mathematics and the ways of teaching-learning, as well as its diffusion among Germans communities, were identified with the organization, under the Catholic and Evangelical Churches' baton, and also of an editorial system, destined to promote a process of homogenization of the teacher's formation and of the their school's work. Until the decade of 1870 the most part of immigrants used books brought from Germany. As those manuals were not satisfatory to the German-Brazilian reality, the text books and periodics edited by the German-Brazilians became the main source to the pedagogic work in those schools. It was verified the necessity and iniciative to produce a specific didactical material and also the coming of some German teachers who used, in the benning of German-Brazilian schools, materials elaborated in Germany. From these evidences, this research was research was developed in order to investigate the transmission knowledge school mathematics process.

Wehrmeyer, Hermann Wilfried January 2016 (has links)
The presence of German immigrants - especially the German orphans of 1948, was a known phenomenon to the South African community during the 20th century. After the Second World War, South Africa’s economy developed rapidly and the skills shortage drew immigrants from all over the world. For Germans, South Africa became a prime destination. They were mostly welcomed with open arms. Many of them also played an important role in South African society. Knowledge regarding these Germans, especially those who immigrated between 1945 and 1980, is fading in the 21st century, a century of dramatic changes and challenges. It appears that very little is known with regard to the contribution these German immigrants made towards the development of South Africa and how they integrated into the South African community. Each immigrant brings his own identity, worldview and concepts of how institutions should function. They bridge national borders and entered a new society with its own identity, or in the case of South Africa, multi ethnic identities. The immigrants have to integrate and adapt to the new culture and ways, while they still retain their old cultures. In the process, they develop a new identity, a trans nationality. They influence their environment and the people they came into contact with. In the 1970‟s, it was especially the German historians who developed a new historiography, known as transnational history writing. After the Second World War, the relationships of the Germans and the French became intertwined in Europe. This necessitated a new approach to the communal coexistence of communities in a fast - changing Europe. Previously history was largely written within the context of the national state and within geographic borders. Now history was developing over national borders and people of different nations were starting to live shared lives. By making comparisons and emphasizing differences, a new theory and principles of transnationalism and trans nationality surfaced. This study approaches transnationalism from the context of a family history, with a biographical case study of a single citizen who emigrated from Germany to South Africa. The focus is on how Wolfgang Wehrmeyer was transplanted to a new country and how he developed a transnational identity. This biographical case study is incorporated into a prosopography with the personal experiences of fellow German immigrants in order to gain a comprehensive insight on trans nationality. The findings are analysed and synthesised to come to a comprehensive conclusion as to how German immigrants experienced transnationalism. The purpose of the study is to make a contribution to our knowledge of transnational historiography in South Africa, as well as to our knowledge about the German immigrants and their experiences.

This study aims to to analyze some paintings from the gaucho artist Pedro Weingärtner, a regional theme that address the representation of the European immigrant and the colonization process in Rio Grande do Sul, from the period of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The analysis of these paintings was made through the understanding of memory and biography of its creator, so that it was possible to understand the type of identity of the immigrant present in the paintings. It was intended to deeply understand how this social type was represented in the paintings, their characteristics, their way of life, the gaps of sociability and work, the landscapes and socio-cultural elements. The relevance of this research is given by the absence of a major study on Pedro Weingärtner and also for the contribution in the field of studies of history and of images, once it contributes - in an interdisciplinary way - with studies about German immigration, pictures and fine arts. It was found throughout the research the representation of an immigrant strongly allied to rural areas and work on the land, seeking the construction of the image of a social type that is both a worker in the countryside as the main causative agent of transformation of the natural landscape Brazilian.

A participação política de imigrantes germânicos no Rio Grande do Sul: os Brummer Kahlden, Haensel, Koseritz e ter Brüggen, 1851-1881 / The political participation of german immigrants in Rio Grande do Sul: the Brummer Kahlden, Haensel, Koseritz and ter Brüggen, 1851-1881

Piassini, Carlos Eduardo 06 December 2016 (has links)
This study, integrated to researches in developing at the research area "Border, Politics and Society" of the Master's Graduate Program in History at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (PPGH-UFSM), Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, counting with assistance of CAPES/DS, aimed to investigate the forms of political participation of the German immigrants Karl von Koseritz, Frederico Haensel, Karl von Kahlden and Whilhelm ter Brüggen during the second half of the nineteenth century, in Rio Grande do Sul, during which one was still very restricted the participation of immigrants in the official political life on account the limitations imposed by the electoral legislation from century XIX and restrictions linked to income. These characters were selected because of two common elements between them: were the first group of foreign of Germanic origin that reach the office of Provincial Deputy in Rio Grande do Sul in the 1880's, and composed the mercenary troops of Brummer contracted in 1851 to act with the Brazilian Imperial Force in the War against Oribe and Rosas (1851-1852). The time frame was defined taking into account the year of 1851 as a landmark of the arrival in Brazil of the investigated characters, and the year of 1881 as the enactment of the Saraiva Law, which expanded the political participation of foreigns in elective office. The study was realized by investigation of participation of these four individuals in different social spaces in which they circulated. The political and life trajectories of they showed similarities. Thus, they formed a group with great specificity who served in public office, in Freemasonry, in recreational and charities associations, in trade and in press. The main attention was paid to public office who they exercised. Karl von Kahlden as Director Colonial, Frederico Haensel as Vice Consul of Prussia, Karl von Koseritz as Interpreter Colonization Agent and Wilhelm ter Brüggen as Consul of Prussia.

Its starting in the state of Santa Catarina took place in the city of Joinville German colony and later, working together with the Lippelt family. This work describes the development of German immigration in the state of Santa Catarina. It will be analysed the appearing of the first cities, which will be the target of proselytizing work by Missionary Mormons and the establishment of the immigrant families in the founded colonies by the Brazilian government as well as by private enterprise, as it is the case of the cities of Joinville and Blumenau. The colonies had the goal of populating the Middle-West of Santa Catarina in order to protect the dominance of the Brazilian territory, which had been formerly required by Argentina, as well as protecting the territory of Santa Catarina and Paraná. This work also analyses the conflicts aroused by the construction of the São Paulo-Rio Grande EFSPRG railway and the benefits that it brought. The immigrants arrived through this railway, means of transport also used by Missionary Mormons for the settlement of the Church in the Middle-West of Santa Catarina. The family Lippelt, pioneer of the Church, is discussed as an important link for the establishment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil in the region of Ipoméia, district of Rio das Antas SC.

During the 19th century occurred in Germany the development of gymnastics, used as means to educate the bodies of the German population. This practice was present in different expressions of the associative life - in institutions formed by free individuals -, strongly ingrained in its culture and was one of the first systematizations of physical exercises which originated modern Physical Education. Filled with political, patriotic and social ideals, it was used to educate the body of the German population, preserving the physical strength and aiming the maintenance of health, as well as the necessary discipline required for the daily work and the homeland defense. This gymnastics followed the migratory waves of the 19th century, turning into a cultural aspect preserved by the German immigrants in Brazil, especially in the southern and southeastern regions of the country. In the city of São Paulo there were many institutions founded by German immigrants throughout the 19th century from which we can highlight the Deutscher Turnverein (1888) and the Turnerschaft von 1890 in São Paulo (1890), both founded for the practice of Turnen. This study aimed to analyze and comprehend the practice of gymnastics as specific means to educate the body as well as a cultural element to be preserved in this associations - especially the Turnerschaft von 1890 in São Paulo - in the period between the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the Second World War / Mestrado / Educação Fisica e Sociedade / Mestre em Educação Física

Bovo, André Luiz January 2019 (has links)
To know the stories that such immigrants and descendants lived in this period, the research utilizes the methodology of Oral History, which through the recording of reports of those who lived the period or who were told the stories, it is possible to access a source that, due to the natural consequences of the passage of time and memory, could be lost. Thus, in conjunction with the methodology of Oral History, a mixture of theories and methodologies is used, which aim a better reading of the interviews and the situation of this ethnic group. Therefore, the study of the oral report is approached through Bakhtinian concepts of “dialogism”, “Voices of discourse” and “discursive genres” in union with the sociology of the body of David Le Breton; As for their ethnicity and identity Norbert Elias's concepts of “habitus” and Fredrik Barth's “ethnicity” are used, and for when ethnicity was stigmatized Irving Goffman's studies were used to understand when their identity was attacked; and the use of Halbwachs' Co... A presença alemã na construção da cidade de São Paulo entre 1820 e 1860 / The german presence in the city of São Paulo edification since 1820 to 1860

Baldin, Adriane de Freitas Acosta 24 April 2012 (has links)
This work intends to elucidate the participation of the German engineers and artificers in the edification of the city of São Paulo since 1820 to 1860. The main sources of the research were documents relating to immigration and public works. The immigration of the German people to São Paulo had three important moments, until the middle of the XIX century. The first German immigrants entrance happened in 1828 and was subsidized by the imperial government. It had the intent of colonizing the country - side close to the capital.
