Karn, Amanda January 2012 (has links)
The essay circulates around the technological analysis of flint material from four localities around the Baltic Sea basin. The analysis was created to investigate the question of where the first Gotlandic settlers originated from and to give clues about the colonization process. The investigated material was collected during the fall of 2011 and a correspondence analysis is used to analyze the collected material. The purpose of using a correspondence analysis is to test the method as a tool for investigating Mesolithic flint technologies. The essay also discusses marine hunter-gatherers, their economy and how their archeological remains differ from terrestrial hunter-gatherers.

Att vara eller icke vara? : en diskussion om kulthusens existens på Gotland / To be or not to be? : a discussion about the existence of cult houses on Gotland

Pilefelt, Björn January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to find evidence if cult houses existed on Gotland during the Bronze Age. The cult house is a common term in modern Bronze Age archaeology and the general definitions of cult house are discussed and why cult houses seem to be absent on Gotland. In this thesis the cult house are discussed as a phenomenon, and the possibilities to find Bronze Age cult houses on Gotland are evaluated by making comparisons between Gotland houses with already defined cult houses from the Swedish mainland. Some known cult houses are presented in more detail as case studies, together with house remains on Gotland which could have potential to be defined as cult houses.

Spanska sjukan på Kungliga Gotlands infanteriregemente 1918-1920

Meriläinen, Sanna January 2008 (has links)

Hellstrand, Hellstrand January 2013 (has links)
This essay, Jacobsberg – a Landscape Garden and a Cemetery is a documentation and a historical analyze where I’ve been focusing on the development of the landscape garden in Sweden in relation to a garden called Jacobsberg. The garden was built close to Visby on Gotland in the early 1800s by the assessor Jacob Dubbe, but has since been almost forgotten. My survey aims to depict the circumstances surrounding the creation of Jacobsberg. In what purpose was it built? I’ve also been examine the historical context of the garden’s origins with the intention to define and confirm its architectural style. The essay comprises two major parts, where the first part deals with the history behind Jacob Dubbe and Jacobsberg, and contains an illustration of the assessor’s life and of the garden’s original structure and shape. The chapter also comprises basic descriptions of the flora and of the different buildings in the area, and shows how the shape of the garden has been changing over the years. The second part begins with a presentation of the present state of Jacobsberg. The review applies experiential dimensions and other observations that haven’t been visible during the literal examinations. The monuments and the fundamental structure of the garden are analyzed and explained in relation to the coeval context. The landscape garden as architectural idea, its development and variations are discussed, including its relation to the graveyard and the tomb. The section also deals with specific traditions and tendencies, such as the increasing enthusiasm for the nature and the altered attitude to the cemetery and the grieving, which were developing in Sweden and Europe during the current period. In the final part of the second chapter I discuss the relation between Jacobsberg and the mansion Rosendal, which were the home of Jacob Dubbe and his wife. In this section I use Michel Foucaults concept heterotopia to understand and disclose concealed characteristics of the garden and to understand its function as a both reflecting and critical sphere. The essay shows that Jacobsberg originally was a landscape garden with organized parts and a cemetery at the same time. Such structure were common in the Swedish version of the landscape garden, except from the cemetery-part, which is a quite unique component in this national form. The examination also shows that it is possible that Jacob Dubbe was the architect of his own park.

Wind power integration in island-based smart grid projects : A comparative study between Jeju Smart Grid Test-bed and Smart Grid Gotland

Piehl, Hampus January 2014 (has links)
Smart grids seem to be the solution to use energy from renewable and intermittent energy sources in an efficient manner. There are many research projects around the world and two of them are Jeju Smart Grid Test-bed and Smart Grid Gotland. They have in common that they are both island-based projects and connected to the Powergrid on the mainland by HVDC-link. The purpose of this thesis is to compare the two projects and find out what challenges and strategies they have related to wind power integration. The objective of the two projects were somewhat different. Jeju Smart Grid Test-bedare the starting point for South Korea’s smart grid road map, where the objective ultimately is to construct a smart grid on a national scale in South Korea. For Smart Grid Gotland there are three main focus areas; electricity market, power quality and wind power integration. In this thesis focus is on wind power integration. Wind power integration in smart grids would benefit from energy storage technology connected to the wind power-park to even out the power output. Properties for a potential energy storage connected to Näsudden wind power park situated on the southern tip of Gotland has been investigated and the result is that such an energy storage would likely need to be big and expensive, but able to stabilize the power output.

Liljeborg, Malin January 2009 (has links)
Politicians Week in Visby has since the late 1960s developed to be a fairly unique concept in Swedish politics, which even in recent years has begun to be exported to other countries in Europe. Curiosity and interest around the arrangement of activities and actors have in the past decade become increasingly both nationally and internationally. The purpose of this study has therefore been to find out how “Almedalsveckan” as a political arrangement emerged and developed. The question that the study mainly tries to answer is how “Almedalsveckan” became a concept of the open democratic meeting between politicians, citizens, journalists and various organizations in the Swedish society. To find out, mainly newspaper articles from the Gotland newspapers has been used, as well as an interview with the former municipal politician Jan Lundgren (s) has been made. Source material has also been obtained from the Library of Almedalen in the Gotlandica department, “Almedalsveckan” official website, Gotland Tourist, SCB and SIKA. The investigation has been defined to include the election-years for the period 1968 - 2009 but other years have also been used to see how political participation has been in non-election year and in 2009 to root development at the present time. The results from the survey show how the arrangement evolved to this stage as a meeting place for political debate in which politicians, citizens, journalists and various organizations engaged in informal conversations.

Basth, Mia January 2012 (has links)
Permaculture is a design system that aims at developing sustainable human settlements and self-maintained agriculture; it may also be used for community planning. The design system of permaculture aims at mimicking a natural ecosystem; this gives the advantage to make use of all the connections and mechanisms that exist in such a system. The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to compile and spread scientific information regarding five different themes within the areas of ecology, environmental science and permaculture. This was achieved through cooperation with the permaculture inspired Ecovillage Suberbyn in southern Gotland. Information about the central parts of a permaculture ecovillage was used as material for a series of signposts that will be located around the ecovillage Suderbyn. The five selected themes were: An overview of permaculture, The forest garden, The pond, Composting and The use of human excrement and urine.

Plahn, Jenny January 2013 (has links)
In October 2010 it was discovered that leach water had been released from a waste deposit directly into a ditch during a period from March until October 2010. The river Dalhemsån runs close to the waste deposit, just about 10 meters from the ditch. By studying the benthic fauna it was discovered that the environmental status of Dalhemsån is bad in this part of the river, but the discharges of leachate from the waste deposit does not seem to have deteriorated the water further since May 2010.
